I think that this place has finally gotten some good employee and some great cooks cause our food was very good and the chef was very entertaining. We were so excited that there's still one in Cincinnati after our Seattle location closed. We arrived for our 7pm reservation and were asked to wait. We weren't given a wait time so we assumed this would be a short wait and didn't order drinks, but ended up sitting for 30 minutes before we were seated. It then took another 45 minutes before we were given the drinks that we ordered and were able to order our meals. After waiting another 45 minutes with no chef at the table we finally decided to leave. In total we were there 2 hours since when our reservation started, with no food served. Multiple tables who arrived after us were served first. Our waitress Chloe was incredibly rude to my father and law, and even after they said she wouldn't serve us anymore due to her rude comments she ended up serving the table next to us rather than being asked to leave. The table behind us received completely the wrong bills from our same original server. This is the worst level of service I've ever received at any dining experience in my life. It was completely unacceptable, and even after a manager came over and said they'd take care of it we still sat for another 20 minutes with nothing. The food was mediocre and dry. The host staff was very strange experience. I arrived at 11 when they opened and a man and his daughter were in front of me. When it was my turn to check in they asked for my reservation (literally no one was in the restaurant) and then asked when time I'd like to eat. Our reservation was 6:45, we were sat at 7:30... the chef didn't come to our table until 9:20. (That's almost 2 hours after being sat at the table) They only have 2 servers and 3 chefs. I understand being understaffed but it wasn't handled well at all. (This is NOT the servers or chefs fault). Honestly, I expected the bill to come out with a discount and it didn't. I asked our server for the manager, the manager came over and I asked if there was anyway I could get a discount. He nodded and grabbed the check and walked away. After another 10/15 minutes he came back. It did have a discount and it was satisfactory. But I feel I shouldn't have had to ask. About 5 years ago we attended Benihana's in the middle of the winter and it was extremely cold inside the dining area. At the time we were informed that there was an issue with the heating system. Well, unfortunately five years later and they haven't fixed the problem with the heat. In an attempt to celebrate my niece's birthday we made a reservation for ten and while we were seated promptly we immediately noticed the frigid temperature in the restaurant, it was so cold that we all had to leave our coats and gloves on just to try to stay warm. The manager brought out a space heater but that did absolutely nothing (also confirms that they know they have a problem if one was just readily available). To make matters worse, the restaurant was extremely busy and they appeared to not have enough cooks. We were seated at 7 and after 45 minutes we inquired about the wait time for us to be served food and we were told it will would be an additional 30 minutes for a cook to come to our area. Needless to say, we made an executive decision to leave. This place is pretty mediocre to begin with and I doubt that we'll return. Maybe it's better in the summer time, but this is easily one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. My review is based on the price is definitely overpriced. $6.50 upcharge for fried rice! also the meal itself is priced well above other Hibachi restaurants in the area and isn't better. The outside of the building looks to be falling apart and the staff is not very friendly or helpful. We had to remind the waitress that our meal comes with a dessert and green tea. Went this past Tuesday with 2 of my daughters for Happy Hour. While entering 3-4 employees were standing around the entrance and nobody greeted us. We went to the lounge area and sat waiting for someone to come greet us and take our order. No one came after 3-5 minutes. We went to the lobby and complained that no one acknowledged us and one of the staff stated they didn't see us. Absolute lies. How can you not see 3 women walk through those heavy giant doors that slam and make such noise? The restaurant was not busy and we heard them greet other customers that were there for the hibachi dinner service. A employee went to the lounge area and signed in to the computer behind the bar and looked at us and said nothing to us and left. Wow has this place fallen! We have been patrons for years. We called ahead for a reservation of 4. We arrived a few minutes early and I had a 9$ beer in the bar area, awaiting our table. After 30 minutes past our reservation time, I went to ask how much longer before we were able to be seated. A security guard Matt said just relax and they are running behind. "Just chill out". I told him I just need to know how much longer and he said "we can cancel your reservation, if you want". I said "really?" He said go back to the bar and wait. I said "don't be disrespectful". No apology only attitude. Then says what name is your reservation under. I tell him thinking he is gonna get us moved up, or make sure that we are seated soon, instead he yells cancel the reservation for our name. My wife upon hearing that stood up and asked for the manager. He then gives her attitude, saying we will cancel your reservation. She says no need we are! We ask for the manager, he said you don't need a manager, you need to leave. The manager does apologize, offers us a card to the general manager, all while the "security guard" continues to call us rude and not worth the restaurant's time. I was dumbfounded. Yes we were bothered, but rude and disrespectful, no! That was all Matt, the power position lover, security guard. In reading the past year reviews on the low quality food and service, it seems the last thing this place needs is to be turning good patrons away before getting food and seated. In the past we have had good experiences here, but after tonight we have vowed as a family to never, ever go there again. The place looks rougher than in the past. Large space heaters (furnace issue?), aging furniture, and definitely less personable staff. We think this place is on the decline and only a matter of time before it will be closed. Ordered lunch today via uber eats bc I was craving Benihana's for months. Although the food can be a bit pricey I decided to splurge. I ordered a chicken talisman which came with mainly noodles, approximately 4 bits of chicken and barely any veggies. The veggies I did have were raw. I ordered bout chicken fried rice and veg rice and only received one and the rice was still white.. so steamed rice with additions. Then I received the tiniest amount of dressing which is the highlight of the salad obviously and it didn't even make the slightest difference. I'm usually very pleased! Went to Benihana in Tri-County, Springdale, OH, trying to celebrate my birthday. I asked for extra Ginger sauce. Eugene here refused to give me extra, even after my daughter said she'd pay for extra. When my daughter complained, Eugene refused to serve us. Wow! Way to ruin my birthday! I am pretty sure it was racially motivated. Hey Benihana, I like my food served without racism! I was a first time visitor tonight and was not sure what to expect. We arrived at about 6:30 and hung out by the bar while we briefly waited for our table. The atmosphere was very comforting and had an astounding bartender while we waited about 10 minutes for the table. I got the souvenir cup with my drink that was only about $7 more (so worth it). The women working at the front bar was so sweet and made a perfect exotic mojito. As we arrived at our table we had a very nice family to the left and a couple to our right. Never being here I had my friend order for me and he definitely made the right choice. I was very surprised on the extensive menu as well as drink options. Our waitress was very diligent and I never had an empty glass of water. I went with the chicken teriyaki and LOVED it. The chef was very professional, talented and cooked everything perfectly. Along with my entree I got a side salad and miso soup prior- both phenomenal. Amazing dressing on the salad, and delicious soup filled with my favorite, mushrooms. My friend got the sherbet ice cream after.. even not liking sweets I tasted it and it was super refreshing and delicious. Ate here with wife tonight for about the tenth time in last 5 years. As always, with a 30.00 birthday certificate (and only under those conditions) The experience has always been about the same. We have never had the quintessentially bad experience that would only justify only one star (usually exaggerated) There seem to have been some improvements in last year or two. Parking lot is in better shape--didn't see any large holes. Décor has been updated inside. There was a portable air conditioner running, but not hot outdoors and indoor temp was not uncomfortable. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. Chef was efficient. As usual, I got filled up and had to take some home with me. Yes, there is still a security guard inside, and I'm not quite sure why. Is the Tri County area THAT bad? Have there been a rash of dine-and-dash incidents here or something? Who knows? All in all, our experience was pleasant, though, and we will probably keep returning twice a year Those with food allergies (e.g. onions, as tonight) need to make that clear at the beginning and their dinner will be cooked separately. Also, lots of butter and salt are used here, so those on restricted diets might want to look elsewhere.If half-stars were an option, I would give this place 3.5 stars. read more

Service too soft spoken to hear over exhaust fan and patrons repeatedly repeating everything said because staff couldn't understand either because of noise or English as a second language. No traditional hibachi flare. Service (waitstaff and hibachi chef) Slow, non-engaging, lackadaisical. Orders incorrect or incomplete. Starting with not giving out enough straws for drinks (2/8) to overcooking every protein ordered and unordered. Unorganized. The cart they push out was overloaded and cooked enough wrong items that it left everyone wondering if there was another table mixed up with ours. Food Every protein was over cooked. Every single item was over oiled, under seasoned, and underwhelming. Child's options were laughable and had to order an adult meal for a 6 year old. My first Benihana experience was 2 or 3 years ago and I had the same experience that most people have noted. Slow and bad service, long waits, etc. Our time was so bad that part of our meals ended up being comped. Fast forward about 3 years and I received my annual birthday voucher. I hadn't bothered with it last year, but this year I really wanted some hibachi. Despite the terrible reviews I made reservations for myself and my cousin for a weeknight dinner. I arrived about 8 minutes late for our reservation time and my cousin was waiting in the bar area. She'd arrived just before me which means our wait to be seated wasn't long at all. There was one other couple seated across from us, making it pretty comfortable. We placed our orders and our server went off to get our soup. Our chef came out by the time our salads were brought to the table. I never realized the servers are the ones that turn the grill on for the chef until our chef said he needed to wait for the grill to heat up. That took a very long time. About 20 minutes later he was finally cooking. I guess the vent at our table was broken cause the smoke from the cooking food was blowing right into our faces. It was bad, to the point where we both started coughing a little. The food was delicious. I was very disappointed in the small portion of chicken fried rice I received and I get why my cousin asked for an extra. You should also request your extra sauces and butter BEFORE the chef takes off, they will charge you after he's gone. I don't really feel like Benihana is worth the price anymore. Yes, the food is good, but they charge for every little thing and there are so many rules. This place is also very outdated. Our waiter got almost all our orders wrong and he was writing down the wrong things and was writing orders that we didn't even order and he didn't even check up on us until it was time to leave and the waitress fixed all of our orders because our waiter wasn't paying attention to us at all and we were all getting aggravated and frustrated because a waitress had to fix our orders because our waiter could not even look our direction. Who knows how many other people he's doing this to and how long he's been doing it because no other table should have to experience this. His customer service was terrible and unprofessional but the waitress and the chef was splendid and they were so understanding. This is the second time I've had a reservation to get there and be told I don't or that the open table app doesn't always work. It was my grandma's 78th birthday, she's in a wheelchair and they claimed they were booked even after I pulled the reservation up on my phone. It's been awhile since I went to a Benihana. Last time I went was several years ago downtown (now it's closed) and one in Las Vegas. It was my friend's birthday and we went on a Thursday night. She made reservations for 6 at 7:00 p.m. When we got there we had to wait in the bar area. We waited at least 15 minutes. She had to walk up and ask if we were going to be seated. Everyone else was getting a table but us. When we got to our station we still had to wait for the chef - another 30 minutes. Yes, they took drink orders, dinner orders, brought us our soup and salad but the chef was not there. He did get to our table eventually after my friend asked if they were going to get started. I got the Hibachi Scallops ($25.25 extra $3.50 for the Hibachi fried chicken rice). The chef left for a couples of minutes while he was cooking and came back. He didn't seemed like he wanted to be there. I noticed my scallops were on the grill for awhile and my mushrooms were overcooked. I even noticed that there was a birthday party behind us and the restaurant catered to them. I felt bad for my friend because it was her Birthday and they didn't do anything. The server was attentive on refilling our waters but at the end she started slacking off on our drink orders. I spent alittle over $50.00 and felt like it wasn't worth the money. I had great company and had a blast with my girlfriends but the food was not good and the experience was horrible. I don't think I will be returning. read more

We had a 6:00 pm reservation scheduled weeks in advance for Valentine's Day. It would be my first time EVER dining at ANY Benihana, the nation's pioneer in Japanese teppanyaki. I walk in to find the decor VERY OUTDATED and dirty. It's cold outside and just about as cold inside. As we walk back to our table, I notice space heaters throughout the restaurant. I'm hesitating to take off my coat as it is very brisk in the eating area. The employees of the establishment are walking around like the temperature is comfortable, and I like it about 68 inside during the winter months, but the temperature was about 50 degrees, and BREEZY! I ask the waitress who asks for our drink request why the chill in the air. She replies (and all I can make out of her reply was) "vent". The couple beside us said it was just as chilly their last visit 2 months prior! I had to come back by saying, and I did, jokingly, but seriously "You obviously didn't learn your lesson, did you?" As we proceed through the standard protocol for serving teppanyaki style, I began to notice it wasn't so "standard". While the soup was okay, the salad could have been better with a little more sesame oil (or whatever kind of oil it is they put) in the dressing. It was too tart. The grill was warming up...a little. It took about 30 minutes or longer for the chef to come out with the food, and didn't bring enough rice for the double fried rice order the couple beside us ordered. I found myself leaning back while watching his spatula juggling "show", fearing he'd mess up due to his clumsy nature. Picture "Danny Trejo" in this role! He was a nice guy, though, bless his heart. Food preparation at a grill like this shouldn't be a nibble by nibble event, or should it? We get shrimp appetizers first, then five minute later the onions, then another five minutes later the zucchini, which all became icy (no thanks to the lack of heat in the building) after the rice was finally finished. So the meat comes way, way after all the rest of the vegetables are finished. I guess it would be asking too much for Chef "Danny" to multi-task and prepare our meal in a way that can have all ingredients on our plates at the same time or very close to it. It was 7:30 pm by the time we got our check. Judging from the other reviews this was pretty fast, but it The assuming management staff avoided us at all costs, walking away faster as we tried to flag them down. I know it's cold and you're trying to stay warm (like us), but could you please acknowledge the patrons who keep YOU fed and clothed?! I know most Japanese restaurants I've dined at prepare the food in such a way that you're not nibbling away (until gone), while waiting for the next food item to be cooked. If this is the way Benihana has ALWAYS done it, then I'll opt for an hour and a half drive up I-71 North to have it served up in a manner to which I'm accustomed. An establishment like this cannot be pardoned for such a "mess", merely by placing a sign in the lobby requesting us to. I apologize for my rant but any suggestion I could have made, which I have many, is futile now that it's over. I want to forget this experience, but I cannot. She couldn't tell me how much longer and while asking her to explain, other guests left saying they waited at their table for an hour and had yet to be served. SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO bad. we waited an hour to be sat (party of 3 - no big deal - we walked in without a reservation), but waited another hour and a half+ after being sat to get ANY food. we were so hungry. my bf who doesn't drink was charged FOUR DOLLARS for a club soda. ridiculous. our friend and i had to go to the bar to get drinks because our server was M.I.A. our chef was complaining to us about how he can't even afford to eat where he works and had just scarfed chick fil a in his car... SHAME ON YOU... pay your employees!!!! the prices were absolutely insane. the food was fine, but was far overshadowed by the ridiculousness that was the whole experience. this meal was a christmas present to me because i always talked about wanting to go to benihana because one of my favorite rappers talks about it a lot in his songs..he's definitely not going to this one. and we were never even offered the ice cream that was supposed to come with our meal (which we saw other tables get and was listed on the menu). we were laughing hysterically by the end as we waited for our credit cards back and felt like we were being held hostage in HELL. read more
