Went here tonight with friends to celebrate birthday. Restaurant was abnormally warm with very little air movement. Ordered the cilantro lime chicken and chicken was dry and had little to no taste of seasoning and rice was stuck together and hard like it came from bottom of the pan. I tried the salmon and fried rice which was cooked so perfectly and the sweet and sour sauce on the salmon was simply delicious. I had the French dip sandwich with homemade kettle chips. My girlfriend had the Shrimp Tacos which our server warned were a little spicy. From the moment we walked in, until we left, service was impeccable. We were seated promptly, orders taken in short order, and food served in good time. The French dip sandwich I had was actually two sandwiches on focaccia bread. It came with homemade kettle chips and dipping drippings. It was a good sandwich, although the bread was quite filling. The focaccia bread was a bit more thicker than I am accustomed to and not as crispy, but it still was pretty good. The sliced beef and cheese on the sandwich was very good and the drippings sauce decent. The homemade kettle chips were good as well and not too salty. My girlfriend really liked her shrimp tacos. She said they were very good and especially liked the sauce. Our server checked on us frequently to make sure our drinks were filled and to see if we needed anything else. This restaurant has the checkout iPad type devices, which I'm not a big fan of, but they were pretty easy to use. We came here on a Saturday around 1:30 pm and it was not crowded at all. There is outdoor seating available as well but we ate inside since it was pretty hot. Bathrooms in this establishment were clean and I liked the atmosphere. I usually don't write bad reviews but this one is kinda really bad so I figured it would help people who are thinking of trying this place out. We tried this place yesterday because we wanted to listen to the music on the Liberty Center Square while we ate and were out of the sun. We ordered a couple of drinks (which were were over priced but we were happy to pay as long as it was well made). The server said the margarita had real fruit but later once the drinks came out it was only syrup, showing the lack of training. When the sunshine arrived, the dragon roll did not ahve a table side fire finish (as mentioned by the menu) and upon asking for it it was pretty sub par display. For 27$, the taste was very meh, again proving over priced and expensive food. The rainbow roll kept breaking up into pieces showcasing lack of proper technique and really thr server never came back to ask about the food until we got up to pay the check. For $100, the food and drinks and the whole experience lacked in every area and we will definitely not be recommending this to any of our friends. read more

So during the crazy tornado weather me and my family were trying to find somewhere that was still open and this was one of the few we stumbled upon. Even though we were the only ones dining in, the service was great and the waiter was very patient with us and answered all questions that we had. He even double checked in the kitchen about any food allergies for the table. The restaurant is nice and open inside there was a smell but it could've just been them cleaning up at the end of the night. For the food, we ordered the cilantro lime chicken whcih was quite tasty especially after getting the sriracha butter on the side which added a great flavor of spice. We ordered the chicken stir fry which was also very yummy and saucey. They have some appetizer options on their late night happy hour menu which we ordered. The avocado egg rolls were fresh and good and the sliders were okay. It only came with two which was a bit underwhelming. I will say the food was good but the pricing was veryyyy high that I don't really see myself coming back here. Very disappointed. My husband and I went for date night last night. Not only was there a shortened menu for the month, the food was honestly upsetting. My husband and I both ordered the New York Strip Steaks (medium rare). The menu described them as 12 ounces served with fingerling potatoes. Our food was brought to us, and it was quite literally horrible. We were served TINY steaks and French fries. Because we don't like to complain, we decided to just go ahead and eat the steaks (even though they were no more than 5 ounces each). Upon cutting them open, we realize that both were blue rare and inedible. We notified our server (who was amazing) and he agreed that both steaks were very underdone. While sitting waiting for our steaks, our waiter came to inform us that he had spoken with his manager and the chef who told him that the steaks were absolutely medium rare, despite the fact that they were literally still purple in the middle. I asked that if that was their definition of medium rare, we would prefer he cook it to his definition of medium. Our steaks were brought out 10 minutes later completely well done which I do believe was done in spite. They were chewy and tough with little flavor. My husband described it as a "Walmart steak". We had a return visit here after 3 years, and this visit was MUCH better than the last one. We were there early enough for Happy Hour and their HH is the best one I know of--a Coors Light draft is 3 bucks, a glass of house chardonnay is $6 and so are a few of their sushi rolls. Their BBQ chicken flatbread (full size) is only 9 bucks, and it's a meal by itself ! So HH is the time to be here if you're able. They also have some special $39 deals that are not on the online menu. One of them is salad, steak, dessert and wine, so we may return soon for that one. Our server tonite was Zachary who was friendly, informative and attentive. It was only his third day, so he gets an A+ for his effort. All around, a great experience. Noise level seemed reasonable, so a good place to take a date and have a good conversation at an upscale place. Parking is somewhat limited on street, but there is a free rooftop lot down the street. Last night my meal started with a very good Fish n Chips main course. The fish was a reasonable portion of a fillet that was lightly breaded and cooked just right. This also came the fries that had a different seasoning on them that was a nice change to plain fries. I also had a frozen strawberry daiquiri which was wonderful. The problems started when I got back to my hotel room and went to eat the cheesecake I purchased. I am a huge cheesecake fan and it's the only dessert I get while out. While the taste was fine I was appalled at the slice I received for my $15. This slice was barely 3 inches long and an inch wide. I called them to voice a complaint and was told these are all pre-sliced and not cut by the server. We talked a bit and apparently this is the smallest of all the desserts and so small the person I talked with doesn't order them herself. Being a fan of cheesecake I would avoid it all costs unless they increase the size as it's borderline robbery at $15. And the sad close is the cheesecake really tasted great w the sauce provided. We ordered the NY Strip and Frites, and added the butter, which didn't add much for costing an extra $8. The steak was a little overcooked and dry, but not bad. We also got a side of pretzel rolls and butter, but the butter was just wrapped butter chips you'd find in a diner. Ambience didn't feel too special, but our server was very attentive and nice. My daughter made a 1:15 reservation for Mother's Day Brunch. We were finally seated at 2:15. Ordered food at 2:38, received food almost an hour later. We were told we could not order brunch food, but saw other waiters serving to people seated after us. We had to ask for napkins, and were basically tossed a stack of drink napkins. Kona used to be a favorite when it first opened, but it's been going downhill every year I visit home. Our visit this past Friday evening was just... awful, and I don't say that lightly. When we walked in, no one greeted us. The hostesses seemed way more interested in their phones than the guests coming through the door. After standing there awkwardly, I went up to the hostess stand, and they seated us on the patio. The patio itself? Completely lackluster compared to how vibrant and inviting it used to be--it felt like an afterthought. It took 15-20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. My fiancé ended up going to the hostess stand to ask for service, and just as he was leaving the patio, someone finally came over and asked if we'd been helped. She offered to take our order, but there were ants everywhere--on the table, the menus, crawling all over. I even got bitten, and I'm still dealing with irritation from it. We asked to move inside, which was another delay. While we were waiting, a server rudely brushed past my niece without an "excuse me" or even acknowledging us. My sister called her out on it, and she rolled her eyes with a smirk. The attitude? Completely unprofessional and unnecessary. Once inside, the hostess who took our order said she had to leave and handed us off to another server. Our order got messed up not once, but twice. The fried rice wasn't even brought out until the rest of my family had practically finished eating. Drinks? My fiancé ordered a beer; I ordered an apple martini. We ended up with both, and a Red Bull? We were also overcharged on our bill by quite a few items but didn't notice it until we got home. We eat out pretty often so it didn't dawn on us until later. BE AWARE of this. There are other similar reviews regarding overcharging. The food was okay--not great. But the service was just... atrocious. For the first time in years, Kona might be coming off our Christmas tradition list. Great place, for it's location. This is a tough one so I'll say this up front - Phenomenal service. Food is good enough. If you're looking for fine dining, it's not quite there. But for a night out with family or friends for drinks and dinner, it's a great spot. We ordered the pot stickers and calamari for appetizers. The pot stickers were good as was the calamari. I had a sushi roll and the shrimp fried rice. If you're looking for great sushi, this isn't where I'd go. But, if you're looking for good enough sushi, you won't be let down. The shrimp fried rice was also good, but again, your mind isn't likely to be blown. Unless you've never had shrimp fried rice before. The rest of the table ordered their burgers. I wasn't impressed with the burgers at all. Unfortunately they seemed the equivalent of any simple burger that you'd get from a major chain restaurant (Applebees, TGIFriday's, etc.) Nothing special at all. We also ordered a couple of desserts. The fudge brownie sundae was absolutely incredible. The carrot cake was huge and very good as well. I would highly recommend these desserts and would also recommend this might be a good place for dessert and drinks. Our server was fantastic. Quick, accurate and very attentive. Towards the end of the dinner, the manager came over to check on us and he too was great. I really have to give it to them on the service front. For me, that goes an incredibly long way. Would I go back? Not as a first choice but if you're in the area looking for something easy and good enough, Kona Grill won't let you down. This location is in a "mall town". What a perfect way to end my birthday celebration! Kona was truly the icing on the cake. Our server, Collin, was honestly the best server I've had in quite sometime! He was enthusiastic, helpful and EVERYTHING he recommended was DELICIOUS! Even the drinks we ordered, Collin doubled as our bartender and did not disappoint! I ordered a emojito, but wanted something different so he added raspberry and even garnished it with cucumber. The drink was surprisingly refreshing and such a pleasant twist on my favorite drink! The fire dragon sushi was IMPRESSIVE and in all my years of coming here I'm shocked it was never recommended before! The table side fire show was fun and a nice touch! We went to Kona on Valentines Day and had reservations for 9pm and didn't get seated until 10pm. The waitress never came to get our drinks or food order, the manager actually came and asked us if we had been served yet and we said no. The manager took our order and got us both drinks and we ordered an appetizer which took 45 minutes to come out and our main entrees which we did not receive. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food and then just left. Our water had a hair in it and the plates they gave us for our sushi appetizer was disgusting. Overall, I will never go to this restaurant again and I would strongly advise anyone against going to this restaurant. It is over priced and managed terribly. read more

There wasn't a wait, which should probably say something since it was about 6:30 on a Friday night. The waitress was ok, I'm guessing she was fairly new, but she was nice. Our sparkling water, despite being put in a chiller, was warm. The food was pretty much average. Calamari was a little over done and salty, my wife and son both had chicken dishes which were ok. I had the wagyu steak stir fried rice. The best part about that that dish was the carrot, because it was the only thing that didn't just taste like salt and grease.
