The complimentary soup that comes with the meal was pretty good as well and a nice way to start the dining experience. The hibachi itself was also very good, and the menu offers a wide variety of meats to choose from depending on what you're in the mood for. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because of the service. Our server made us feel a bit rushed during the visit, which took away slightly from the overall experience. Benihana is the leading Japanese-inspired restaurant chain in the United States. I personally never knew about the place because in Virginia Beach, VA we have local Japanese-inspired places. However, after conducting research I learned that Benihana is place you would find a very populated city. When I told my friends that we were going here, they mentioned a lot of celebrities eat here according to Instagram. Came into town and my boyfriend made reservations for us for Valentine's Day. This location is in Downtown Houston. There are different parking options however, we got lucky with street parking right across from the establishment. Remember, parking after 6pm is free on the meter. We came 5 minutes before our reservation time and was seated right away. I was a little overwhelmed because there was a lot going on at the time. So many different tables having their own little show. This wasn't my first rodeo however, it was busy for Valentine's. When we got seated I was very cold. The air was blowing hard and I wasn't prepared to freeze. After awhile, you just got used to the air. We were seated with another young couple sitting across from us then later on a mom and her son that was 4. She kept apologizing that she didn't want to ruin anyone's date but her son was a sweet heart. It was his first time and he didn't know what to expect. When sitting at hibachi style places, you automatically should know that you will be sitting with strangers. Make friends fast. There are also other tables around you that you will end up hearing whats going on there also. Example. The table next to us had a family of about 5 with kids. The kids were banging cups and using the chopsticks as drum sticks. Talk about annoying. However, you have to try to numb it out. My boyfriend and I ended up getting the same meal. The Splash N' Meadow. This one is a Hibachi steakasterisk and grilled colossal shrimp lightly seasoned and grilled to your specification. When you order under the Specialties menu, it is considered a 6 course meal. It includes the onion soup, salad, shrimp app, vegetables, mushrooms, homemade dipping sauces, steamed rice (or fried), hot green tea, and ice cream and sherbet. The entertainment was nice with our chef. I never had a girl habatchi cook before so this was a first and she was amazing. She even made sure the young boy that was at our table was entertained. To make a long story short I had a very horrible experience. Starting with our table cook Fabian. He was giving us the show flipping his spatula and forked knife when he lost control the the knife and it came flying at me missing my shoulder by inches and hitting the wall behind me. After I was served my chicken fried rice on my 3rd bite I found a 1 inch long hair in my rice ! Gross ! I notified the manager he said he would take care of my bill he did not ! I spoke with another manager Tommi she looked at me and said let me figure out which plate was yours and not your companions. After adjusting my bill she offered me a $40 gift certificate for my inconvenience. I asked for her name. I said I was going to E-Mail the corporate office regarding my visit. She promptly said well if you do that I'm not giving you the gift certificate. OMG talk about tacky! I left paid cash never to Return ! read more

Took my dad here on Father's Day, place was busy, a lot of chaos, my dad wanted to leave but I thought we're here anyways and this was the only hibachi restaurant we can find in downtown. So we sat and waited for our table, 30 mins went by, nothing, then finally we got sat down with other customers which is customary in most hibachi restaurants. Chef came by, gave us a pretty good show with a lot of humor..at the end of the day my dad was happy, and that was it. About the food, it was ok..service ok..overall experience was okay. Service is decent not great but if you sit hibachi the chef can be entertaining Food is pretty good too, As long as they cook the protein correctly. Always get chicken fried rice. Im a big fan of the house salad. And their red Benihana sauce goes good on almost anything. Never had really bad service or food. Consistent on everything they do. This was my first time going to Benihana here in Houston and I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews. I learned how to use chopsticks at the Benihana in New York as a kid and although this Benihana did not hold a candle to the old New York restaurant, when talking about atmosphere and knife skills, the food was tasty and our chef was pleasant and eager to please. We enjoyed our visit to this location. The food was great. It was cooked perfectly, not slimy overcooked and over buttered like some teppan locations do. It was also very clean inside and you didn't leave smelling like the grill which is excellent with Teppan, because with some places, you smell like you licked the grill yourself when you leave. Not a very good experience. Sat in the dinning room instead of at the normal hibachi grill. Wish we would have though, food quality would have been better. Cocktails came steadily and the bar staff handled the crowd with ease. There is a rhythm to a place like that when it is working, and for a while it was working. The first round of food came in the bar area. An egg roll dish that was fine in a forgettable way. Chicken wings followed and landed in the same category. Not offensive, not memorable. Just there. The kind of food that fills the gap between drinks without ever demanding attention. Because of Father Day weekend timing, the staff moved us upstairs earlier than expected for our reservation. That gesture mattered. It showed a level of hospitality that deserves recognition even when the food does not fully rise to meet it. We settled in upstairs with more cocktails and waited for the second act. Upstairs, the pacing shifted. My niece ordered an oxtail rice bowl dish that seemed to do its job without drama. My wife had salmon rice bowl that was solid and reliable, the kind of dish that holds its shape in a busy menu without trying to steal the spotlight. I went with the lamb and shrimp pizza, which sounds more interesting than it ultimately tasted. The dough was serviceable. The sauce never quite found its direction. The lamb was surprisingly restrained, almost too much so, to the point where it disappeared into the background instead of anchoring the dish. Nothing was technically wrong with it, but nothing pulled me back for another bite either. And that is really the story of the place. Nothing wrong, nothing broken, but very little that lingers after you leave the table. What does stand out is the service. The staff handled a busy holiday weekend with patience and flexibility, and the bar team kept things moving with confidence. There is real potential here, the kind that suggests a kitchen still searching for its strongest voice. Leighton House of Lamb and Ramen is not a place I would go out of my way for again, but it is also not a place I would warn someone away from. It sits in that middle space where execution is competent and ambition is visible, but the memory fades faster than the meal.
