I was excited to take my kids to Benihana to celebrate my birthday this evening. They have never been and the idea of them seeing the theatrics seemed fun and exciting, all while letting them try something a little different and new. What was once the epitome of fun and excitement is now long in the rear view mirror. Honestly, the best way to describe my experience is sad. The service was fine, the staff are fine, the place is run down and full of cooks going through the motions. The only way to get ours to do anything exciting was to really push and lean in, and by far we had the only cook who seemed to be at least trying. This was all followed by a manager who is desperate to get a good review coming over with business cards and coupons - but even that wouldn't change the overall experience. I long for what was, but what is, and likely will be is nothing of its former self. Thanks for having me and my family, don't think we will be back, if you're thinking of going - lower your expectations to just mediocre food and leaving with the unmistakable trade mark Benihana smell attached to everything you entered the place with. read more

This place is super expensive, we had the four course meal, the sushi rolls is not fresh, the meat and rice come with our main course is not great. The worst part is there are lots of flies in the dinner table while we are eating, I ask the lady who appears to be the owner or manager in charge, she just said it is a "Houston" thing. I said I understand that because I am from Texas, but for people not from Texas, that might be a shock that people in Texas are accustomed to eat with bugs. read more

I've been there many times, and it used to be a really nice place. Unfortunately, things have changed. The food quality has gone DOWN, and the taste is NOT the same as before. An experience to remember, for all the WRONG reasons. Long story short made a reservation for party of 8, my wife's 37th birthday. 4pm on July 17. We get there at 3:45 and are seated right at 4pm. Right away we are greeted by the waiter, he's very courteous. It takes about 30-40 minutes to get our drinks. The beer I wanted was out, I ordered a Sapporo then changed to a Michelobe ultra, 20 minutes later after I remind the staff I ordered a beer, the waiter brings me a Sapporo, even though I ordered and ultra, I said ok whatever, since I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for the correct beer. 45 minutes after we're seated, still no cook or anyone explains the delay. My wife (her birthday) realizes this is turning out to be a bust, she goes to the hostess stand and informs them of the unsatisfactory service, they just blow her off. Almost an hour after we were seated they bring out the onion soup, it's cold. They bring my wife's California rolls and give them to the wrong table. That table realizes the error and sends it over to our table (second hand rolls yay!). I stop the manager and explain to him how terrible this experience is going, he apologizes and after a while comes to our table and has nothing but excuses. We explain how having a reservation for a special occasion at 4pm and at almost 5:30 still no food or cook is causing us to get upset. We offer to pay for the drinks and leave because we could not see this horrible experience taking a turn for anything better. He says he's comping the drinks and we parted ways. This was a horrible experience, we've been there many times before and unexpected issues come up, but this was inexcusable. My wife felt horrible, everyone took time out of their day to meet up for her birthday and she felt responsible for having chosen a restaurant with such poor service. We assured her it was not her fault and dined elsewhere. Aside from the horrible experience, this place is in dire need of a deep cleaning, the tables, silverware, and restrooms all need extra attention. Managers are there to manage, so manage the restaurant. It just felt like they couldn't care less and only wanted to fill the seats regardless of the poor experience they were providing. read more

My wife and I went to the Benihana Houston Downtown. We had a great time some, many veterans were there. Benihana staff everyone was great. I highly recommend this Benihana and all of them. We were all treated so great, the cooks prepared the food exactly how we wanted. Our waitress was very attentive, I even spoke with the manager, great employees, a wonderful place environment. You must visit here, I have gone here many times and I was so proud to here that Benihana was honoring veterans. This review was long overdue, just from the multiple times I have gone to Benihanas. The downtown location is our favorite, and yesterday was a day to remember there. Go Go Go its a must. read more

I had a horrible experience tonight, a lady at the table had long black hair in her rice and everyone at the table hair was blonde or braids. They just replaced her rice when everyone's should have been replaced. Then the food wasn't seasoned at all. We had to ask for extra seasoning. The cook didn't do any shows. He burnt the rice and threw a lot of it away. Overall it was a horrible experience for the amount of money paid. read more

Last night, 9/27/25, I had a reservation at their Downtown Houston location for my sons 16th birthday. I placed the reservation a few days prior for a party of 9 and thought nothing of it. I have been to this location before what could go wrong. I received a text at 7pm on Saturday stating my table ready was which was cool I was about 5 minutes out for my 715pm reservation time. Some family was already there and informed them I would arrive in a few minutes. I walked through the door at 710 after parking and walking. The greeter at the door was polite and courteous and assured us that it would just be a moment. That moment turned into a 30 minute wait for our table. But it didn't stop there. After we were seated we didn't see our server for another 10 to 15 minutes. By now it's clearly 8pm and our sever is just getting around to taking our drink orders. Meanwhile a party seated after us and across from us has their drinks and food is being prepared. The server reappeared with the water and drinks that was ordered took our food order and informed us that he was passing us along to a fellow co-worker as an emergency had come up and he had to leave. Staffed was switched out and the adult beverages finally arrived. Once my niece received her drink she informed him that she could not drink it because there was an orange slice in it and has she had stated to him when ordering she is allergic to citrus, so there went that. At this point we are now asking for a manager because we are coming up on 830pm and still have not gotten our cook. At 845pm the cook is here and ready to do his thing. The food, once we received it, was great. Even though he cooked everyone's food and left out my steamed rice which a cook from another table over-heard us discussing and brought it to me. I walked away in disappointment in the service especially with the amount of money I spent I had high hopes for the evenings event as it was a milestone for my son. read more

Our server disappeared, my plate was taken by the busser before I was done with my food, steak was cooked wrong, and my son's chicken tenders didn't come out of the kitchen until after the hibachi show. What an absolute joke. How was I here for THREE AND A HALF HOURS and had to ask for my check? Benihana corporate needs to drop every member of staff at this location and start from scratch. I had a BLAST at this Benihana. This wasn't my first Hibachi experience. But it was possibly the best! Our Grill sergeant Betty was very funny and charismatic she had me laughing the entire time. The establishment was clean. Nothing to complain about there. The menu had a lot of great options ranging from classic hibachi dishes to new experimental recipes. The food wasn't all that great. My steak was a little over cooked, which I didn't appreciate but everyone in our party of 11 seemed to enjoy themselves and their food so it was and overall good experience. After the meal we did feel a little rushed but we were utilizing the space of 2 grills so I almost understand. read more

I should've had taken into consideration low reviews. I dined in today at lunch hour, my server older lady didn't bring me the lunch menu instead she wanted me to order from dinner menu. I chose steak and shrimp for $53, then couple next to me asked for lunch menu, so did I, and my lunch was $27. The worst experience was when the lady brought me the soup. Towards the end there was a short hair in my soup. I let the waitress know, she said sorry do you want another one. I said No thank you. It was worst hibachi experience ever. Rude reviews on here. Sounds like some people can't mind their own business and judgey that they can't pull off certain outfits. It is perfectly fine for family dining. If you can't handle how lightly people dress especially in this heat, maybe do some soul searching about why this is so upsetting for you. I have been here numerous times over the past few years mainly for birthday celebrations. Service is usually mediocre, even with a reservation usual time is at least an hour. They always seem to be short staffed with chefs. This visit what is the first time we were seated at our reservation time. The waitress came and took our drink order and we received them shortly after I know that sounds like not a big deal but compared to previous experiences it's a big improvement. The shift then appeared five minutes after our reservation time which was outstanding. This chef was very friendly very personable and brought a unique experience as he performed jokes and tricks I haven't seen in the past. Mainly playing with the rice as it cooked writing out different phrases. The food itself was great as usual. The chef makes everything as you request it. When everything was said and done we walked out within one hour. Again going from a wait time of an hour to be seated with A reservation to being in and out in an hour was a big improvement. We have enjoyed every trip to Benihana so much. It is always a fun family experience for us. My son is a big fan so we celebrate something every year. If you have neve had teppanyaki this will be a pleasant surprise. If you have had it before you'll be happy the food is consistently good and the service is attentive and very prompt. The restaurants are all basically the same so may not be particularly Japanese authentic but it's very complete and does transport you. We love it and do recommend it for a fun family meal or a fun work group outing. read more
