The table for four was set for two.. we were handed menus titled "late night menu" featuring basically Applebees snacks.. sliders, steak bites, chicken wings, catfish nuggets.. what???? We ordered some cocktails and waited. Two different waiters who were not communicating came to our table. We asked where the regular food menu was and were advised management had changed and that was the only food they had. Meanwhile people behind us were getting hookah... we ordered our 'snacks' then asked for a wine list.. no wine list, he just pointed at some bottles at the bar then brought two bottles as our choices.. basically off the shelves at Walgreens wine. No thanks. We waited almost an hour for food then noticed the table across being served steaks and sides... then our food came and was disgustingly poor. The slider had bread that looked mashed! We had the waiter tell us we should have asked for a different menu when we confronted them with the other tables food options. Finally the manager came, apologized half interested and asked how he could me it right. He couldn't.. we left, didn't have to pay obviously and went to have dinner at Toca Madera, a still descent restaurant experience! There was no entertainment or dancers at all, and the whole place felt like a bankrupt restaurant. What shocked me the most was that they served hookah. I was really surprised because the restaurant advertised itself as Japanese and French, which did not match the atmosphere at all. Most of the bar shelves were empty. The restroom was also dirty and broken. We only ordered appetizers, which were neither special nor tasty. Honestly, they seemed like frozen food that had simply been fried and served to us. I really felt bad for my friend who was trying to find an over the top, fine dining restaurant for her birthday and was completely let down and embarrassed. She booked in advance, specifically for Thursday night which on their website said it's Latin night with DJ sets and live performances at 9pm. There was absolutely no entertainment, not even a DJ. We may have heard one Latin song. The food was mid at best. For a place that identifies as a fine dining restaurant with Japanese and French influences, what they're putting out is not that. First off, the menu online is also false. There was no mention or listing of a tasting menu. There wasn't any sushi of any sort. We got a few appetizers to start. Why did my calamari come with ketchup. Seriously, who does that? The breading on the calamari was also falling off the minute you touched it. Three people including myself got the blackened salmon as on entree. Why were all of our portions so different. I got a sliver of salmon while someone else got double or triple my portion. Another friend ordered the one Japanese item on the menu, Chicken Katsu. There's usually some kind of sauce that is either drizzled on it or even a curry on the side. Nope, not here. When she asked for sauce, they just brought a heaping helping on the sauce her orzo was cooked with. I can go on about the food, but I'll move on. Drinks were another big let down. Prices are higher than most places around town. I will say the Soirée Old Fashioned I got was pretty good but a very stingy pour. The big flop on the drinks was the gals ordered lychee martinis. Why did it come out red and super citrusy? Make it make sense? As far as customer service goes, our host ended up being our waitress as well she didn't introduce herself but she did a great job handling our large group. It does state online they don't split checks, but I'm not a big fan of that practice at restaurants, especially when prices are so high. Valet is the only onsite parking. It is not free. Overall, as you can see from above, there was just too many misses and so many questions on the whole experience. We should have walked out the minute we saw a completely empty restaurant close to 9 at night. I would not suggest this place to anyone as it is a lot of false advertising going on here. I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at CIEL, especially since it was for my birthday. I've been here twice before and had such a great time with amazing food, fun dancing entertainment, and a lively atmosphere that turned into a lounge later in the evening. Easily a 5 star review. Based on those experiences, I confidently booked a table for 10 on a Thursday, since their website clearly stated they have live entertainment Thursday through Saturday. When we arrived at 8 PM, the place was completely empty and it stayed that way the entire night. We were then told there would be no entertainment at all, which felt like false advertising right off the bat. The menu has also been significantly downgraded. no more sushi, and overall the food was just okay at best. One of my friends ordered the 16oz ribeye and was given a butter knife instead of a steak knife, which honestly says a lot about the level of service. To make things worse, they automatically added a 20% gratuity and told us they could only split the bill evenly across 7 cards. That's completely unreasonable, especially when people ordered different items, and the service and food quality absolutely did not justify that kind of gratuity. The drinks were also disappointing. Three of us ordered a lychee martini, and what we got was a pink, overly sweet drink with sugar.. not even close to a proper lychee martini. At the very least, include a lychee? It felt like another example of misleading presentation. We later found out the restaurant is under new management, which explains the drastic decline. As we were leaving, the valet even warned a group of girls walking in to "check inside first" before committing. that should tell you everything. This was a complete 180 from my previous experiences. The first time I ever experienced Ciel was a Black and Gold Yelp Elite event a couple years back. It was incredible. This time, I returned for an event we were hosting with the Houston Millennials networking committee. It was a great event but it was incredibly hot with the turnout we expected even though they had smoke amount of time to get cooling details all worked out for such a large crowd. Oddly enough, the drinks were flowing and people were ordering a few appetizers but I was told that they were just ok. Valet, as you can imagine, took a super long time to retrieve cars. So, if you were in a rush, forget about it! I still think that Ciel is a stunning location for great photos and nice fine dining experience. I was excited to try this restaurant after seeing the reviews. A big plus that they had an open reservation for Valentine's Day. We had to wait about 30 mins for our table, they told us to sit at the bar and wait. We were at the bar for about 10 mins before being acknowledged. The drinks were pretty good. We were finally seated on an area I equated to a cold basement. It was over on a corner but extremely cold. Unbeknownst to us there was a prixe fix menu, that wasn't stated on the reservation. The menus on our table said $100 pp. We ordered and this is where the drama started. I ordered the rock shrimp starter and they brought out what was supposed to be calamari instead. They didn't tell me they ran out of shrimp and the calamari was cold hard and unseasoned. I requested the Cesar salad instead, it came quickly but was made with a spring mix which I thought was strange. I ordered the filet medium Instead of medium rare and it came out rare I sent it back and received one that was smaller than the 8ozs promised and was well done. By this time my whole party was done so I just said forget it. Another person in our group ordered salmon and her plate had dried blood on it, probably from a steak. For dessert they offered cheesecake or chocolate cake. Well we all got pieces of random cakes. Some chocolate and some red velvet no cheesecake. We were told they ran out. These slices of cake looked like they were homemade but didn't taste good at all. Very disappointing. If all Of this wasn't enough the worse came when we got the bill. The price was actually $125 pp. the waitress fixed it because apparently after 9 the price went from $100-$125 but they forgot to pull the menus. Overall we were very disappointed in the service and food. I know it was a busy holiday they should have prepared better for the crowd. The DJ SLAPPED, so come ready to chair dance with your friends and lovers throughout the meal Food gets a solid 4 stars and was all recommended by our waitress, Jenni. We had the Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and French Toast, Eggs, Bacon, Roasted Potatoes, the Catfish and grits, and the bread pudding. The chicken and the grits were sooooo damn good. I wish I had more. The oxtails also looked scrumdiddlyumptious also What sucks is that there are basically no appetizers on the menu #fail. How is this place still in business? We ignored all the bad reviews a d went anyway. We left after one drink which took 25 minutes to get in a very uncrowded place. Waitress BG waited the full 25 minutes to bring 4 out of 5 drinks to tell me they had no espresso for the martini! I sure wasn't going to order something else that would take 20 minutes to get. Service is awful a d they dont care because they add on 20% tip to every bill. So $100 for four very normal drinks and my friend didnt know the tip was on it so he tipped more. The grits were very good, but the oxtails were a little tough. They did ask if we wanted something else. Our server was very good and attentive. My only expectation for Ciel was a boujee, nightlife lounge vibe--I didn't have high hopes for the food. From the moment we arrived, the aesthetics were picture-perfect, just as I had imagined! While the vibe and atmosphere were what I expected, the service, sanitation issues, and lack of transparency completely overshadowed the experience. I chose this venue because I had previously attended and enjoyed it, which made this experience even more frustrating. The level of entertainment and service was noticeably reduced compared to my prior visit, to the point where I was genuinely confused as to whether the restaurant has changed ownership or management. Prior to booking, I called ahead to reserve for a party of 30 and specifically asked two important questions: whether checks could be split and whether there were any hidden fees due to it being Valentine's Day. I was assured checks could be split and that there were no hidden fees. Unfortunately, neither of these assurances were honored. Upon arrival, I was never informed that our party would be split up, nor was I told there would be additional charges tied to a limited Valentine's Day menu. We were also not allowed to split checks, which directly contradicted what I was told when booking. To make matters worse, some members of our party were seated in an area where their view of the entertainment was obstructed. The entertainment was the main reason I chose this venue, so this was especially disappointing and should have been disclosed ahead of time. Service throughout the night was lacking. Our server dropped off water and expected us to pour it ourselves, never returning to refill glasses. Silverware was missing for an extended period, leaving guests sitting with their food unable to eat. The restaurant also ran out of the dessert many guests had ordered and replaced it with a mediocre alternative that was not enjoyable. Additionally, neither restroom had running water. Guests were offered hand sanitizer instead, which I found extremely unsanitary and concerning, especially in a restaurant setting. While some of the food was good, the overall experience was extremely disappointing, especially considering the amount we paid and the mandatory gratuity charged. This was meant to be a birthday celebration, and instead it was frustrating and underwhelming. We had the best time at CIEL! There's valet at the front. When you enter, there's plenty picture opportunities. Highly recommend getting a reservation, matter fact... you need one. They were so so busy when we arrived. There was a group of 7 of us and we had minimal wait with a reservation. It was literally packed in there though. No matter where you stood, you would feel the person next to you, walking by you or just talking behind you. When seated we were greeted immediately by our server who was so fun and a whole vibe in himself. He was great. Food was good. Pretty pricey. Drinks were good and strong. Pretty pricey too though. Valet is $9 and unfortunately no parking lot. There told us we would lose our reservation if our entire party didn't arrive after 15 minutes and there are signs up front about strict dress code. We were the only party at 7pm on a Thursday, but it seemed to have gotten more crowded throughout the night. Performance was supposed to start "around 8:30" though the servers gave us vague responses whenever we asked about it. The show started around 9pm and there were 3 dancers that occasionally came in and out to perform. Some appetizers worth ordering - wagyu sliders and wagyu dumplings. The crispy rice was not bad. Let me preface by saying this was their Valentine's Day menu/3 course "special", so the items listed might not be on the regular menu. My partner was not told of the price before we got there. We both had the 3 course meal and each had 2 drinks. The bill was $485. This price MAY have been appropriate if all of the other promised elements aligned. Let's start with the service: the servers barely knew any answers to any questions. We got a lot of "uhh, I think, I guess, yeah I got you," which normally I wouldn't have a big problem with, but a restaurant of this caliber shouldn't be hiring just anyone to serve there. It just kind of threw me off. I got the wagyu gyoza to start. It was actually amazing. The La Passion (basically a pornstar martini) was good as well. My salmon was listed on the menu as a King Salmon, so I was expecting something huge. You might not be able to tell from the picture, but this salmon resembles the salmon I pick up in the pack at Kroger. So small that I finished it in 5 bites. All of my food (except gyoza) was 100% unseasoned. Extremely disappointing. The dessert was some sort of dry eclair stuffed with orange sorbet. Not good. The show was supposed to start at 7 but started closer to 8 and we got there at 6:15 so by the time the second show was supposed to come, it was about time we had to go. We'd seen videos of the performers before so we were expecting something eccentric/extravagant. It was just a lady who sang a snippet of a song, and 3 dancers that did the same 2 arm moves in witch costumes. This is a sham of a fine dining restaurant. Our first time here. Previous YELP reviews very mixed. We went tonight for Valentine's Day , fixed price menu. Great cocktails to start and we did a bottle of a very nice Petit Chablis. There were some other nice choices on a small wine list. The first flight, not shown was a sushi flight which we both had. My only complaint there was that i did not noice the wagyu beef which i cannot eat and which not normally on. Sushi flight, traded for th yellowtail with my wife so not big deal. Good quality sushi, no soy sauce needed thank you. I followed with Salmon and my wife had Chateaubriand. I did the passion fruit and my wife did a strawberry sorbet. Nice Wait staff great, they seemed to know well the frequent diners (not us) and the decor was modern and a nice match with the not modern music. Good, mixed crowd. Not sure how much mix from an artificial v-day mix (ah, that would be us). Hint. We took the very very uncool 6pm seating , but heck, we got seated on time. When we left at 8:30 pm or so, the line was very long with people waiting for their much cooler 7-8pm seatings. We were not chased out and frankly the kitchen backed up anyway. It's V-day, cancellations are very low and this sort of things happen. I think if i had one of those ultra-cool 8pm seatings and waited 60min for my table I would have killed a star or two. There is no 'wait bar' , it is a line out to the parking lot. They need to rethink that form a cash standpoint. We also went a week later, to see what it was like on a non holiday Friday night. Obviously better menu though portions a bit too large. No change to the review. Pricy, but good food, great waitstaff in a fun environment. I have been to this restaurant many times, including during fixed price events. During Restaurant Week, for example, the three course set menu was $55 per person. On New Years Eve, Ciels pricing ranged from $65 to over $170+ per person between 5:00 & 10:00 PM even though the menu did not change. The price doubling within minutes felt exploitative.Our reservation was for 7:00 PM. When we arrived, we were told the menu was mandatory at $150 per person. At that time only about five tables were occupied, the emptiest I have ever seen this restaurant despite having visited many times. We were told our regular reservation would not be honored & that we had to order from the $150 set menu. The server pressured us to place our entire order immediately. We ordered rock shrimp for both appetizers and chose the chicken katsu & Cajun pasta for our entrees. The rock shrimp was fine. The entrees were completely flavorless & inedible, which was shocking because this restaurant has always been flavorful in the past. I could barely swallow a few bites & tried mixing the chicken katsu with the rock shrimp sauce, the only flavorful item on the table. After about three bites, I stopped eating and asked for the entrees to be removed. Based on the regular menu, even appetizers, entrees, & dessert would not total more than $80 per person. This meal did not justify a $300 price.The manager came over & immediately began yelling & degrading me, insisting the set menu could not be removed. I offered to pay for our appetizers & drinks but not for the entrees, dessert, or the $150 per person charge. He repeatedly said, This is not a bargain. This is not a flea market, while pointing at me & implying I was cheap or lacked class.I told him to call the police if needed because I would not be verbally abused for refusing to eat flavorless food. He said I would be forced to pay the full $300 & that his security was at the door. I told him security could not force payment, so if he wanted any payment, the bill needed to be adjusted.After arguing, he tried to itemize the bill but still claimed over $150 for one old fashioned cocktail, one mixed berry mocktail, two orders of rock shrimp, the chicken katsu, & the Cajun pasta, which was more than regular menu pricing. We paid $149 just to not eat.This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I have never been treated so disrespectfully. The manager also falsely claimed the restaurant was booked & busy even though the dining room was nearly empty and OpenTable still showed availability.We chose Ciel because it had open reservations while other restaurants were booked. I made our reservation at 6:30 PM same day.I believe Ciels reputation has declined, & their ratings reflect similar complaints. I am not a hater, this is not about money. I had a reservation with two friends for Saturday night. I would 1000% recommend making a reservation. They also have cheap valet parking it's only $10 for them to park you in the garage. It is extremely lively and very loud, you'll definitely be yelling across the table to talk to your group but it's honestly cute little vibe. We were sat right under the dj booth, seating was very tight the tables are extremely close together in that area. When it comes to the service, I will say that our waitress was pretty attentive and checked in on us multiple times. However having been seated right by the dj we were able to witness how rude he was to people attempting to request songs. Besides the bottle service request songs, his set was really mediocre. He was super dismissive to people requesting songs, like dude you're at a restaurant not a night club in Vegas, calm down. Nevertheless, we came by after having dinner somewhere else, so initially we just ordered drinks and a dessert platter. I had the madamoiselle, it was very strong but pretty refreshing. We ordered some fire shots and they were pretty good. The dessert platter had a lot of options, most of them were good, the only one we hated was the peanut butter one. We also ordered the Wagyu Sliders and Dumplings. The sliders were good, the caramelized onions were delicious. The wagyu dumplings were also decent but not better than the sliders. I also had a Ciel 75 which was sweet and not too strong. We definitely had a fun time, I probably wouldn't come here for dinner just for after dinner drinks. read more

0/10 experience. When we first arrived for the reservation the hostess said "oh I'm sorry this table was sold. I'll have to move you." So we moved behind a table of like a 13 top, so we were unable to love the circular table to get in and out. Hostess then moved us to another table and everything was fine. Things started to take a turn when we read the menu and nothing on it was Japanese. It was all soul food. Our waiter was attentive and gave great suggestions. Once our food arrived it was cold and looked like it had just been sitting for 30-45 minutes. We had to them to take it back which they did but when they brought it back it was too hot to even eat. We moved along until they decided to pop bottles again THAT IS FINE but the owner or manager whatever decided to pop the confetti popper and it got all over our plates of food and drinks. Owner/manager comes over and says "Awh my bad it shifted" didn't try to bring us new food or anything. I ended up telling him to comp the entire tab and we left. I'm sure it's probably better during the day. I've ate a lot of high end restaurants but nothing abt this one was worth $45-$50 a plate. read more
