If you have ever been to a hibachi restaurant you know they cook your food in front of you with the chef putting on a show for you to enjoy as you enjoy a delicious meal. The service was kind of slow, but we did have a large party. The restaurant was fully packed and vibrant from the chefs and the patrons laughing and participating in the shows. Now, if you've been to this restaurant before and you just want to enjoy their delicious food without paying the high price in the large dining room, then eat in the smaller dining room. Your appetite will be satisfied and your pockets will be grateful. read more

This is a great place to take the kids or for a small social gathering. Food was good and I appreciated the chef making my soy steak meal first before everyone else's. Great service. Unfortunately the food didn't meet expectations. Came for the lunch special and the soup is normally miso soup. It wasn't that and instead had some fried flakes in there. The salad had too much vinaigrette miso dressing which overpowered the lettuce and was too sour. The sushi combo had rice that just didn't taste right and the fish was a discolored dull color and not the normal bright colors of orange and red for the salmon and tuna. I was hoping for decent sushi and was disappointed. This is a tepanyaki place and may do that well where I can't recommend it for sushi. read more

Ah! The food was ssssoooo good! This was my second time visiting this location. You have to park in the Regency garage and go to the first floor to get there. When we arrived, there was a 45 minute wait so we decided to sit in the bar area and eat. I'm glad I did because I don't think I trust my three year olds at that stove! My waiter was not very nice but the food was good. I could do without eating here ever again actually. The location on Westpark/Westheimer is better in my opinion. read more

We made reservations months ago so we could attend after the Thanksgiving Parade. It was a perfect location and we were part of the first group to enter. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server who explained the menu and took our orders. The entire table chose to select from the lunch menu so we wouldn't see all the additional dinner items. The soup and our gyoza were good. Our Chef was a very nice young man, who didn't have a complete mastery of all of the skills, but was enjoyable to chat with and kept up with all the additions and changes people wanted while cooking. He created 6 delightful dishes and we left very happy. If you are a fan of this location keep in mind that it is going to be completely remodeled soon, but will still be open while the work is finished so it will be great to see such an enjoyable restaurant get all fixed up and become even better. When we return to Houston we will enjoy another visit. Thanks to all the staff!!!! read more

The servers Alex and Betty were very friendly and nice however it is not a place that I will be going again. Food wise to me is not to my liking and price is kinda high. I know a lot of people hate on Benihana but I dig it. I know it's not authentic Japanese, and it's not cheap, and it's by no means incredible Japanese food, but I enjoy the experience. I stopped by on a weekday for lunch with a bunch of my co-workers. Y'all know the drill at hibachi spots like this. The show, the onion volcano . . . it makes things different than your typical restaurant experience. They have a bunch of protein options to choose from, several different rice options, plus veggies. We visited the Benihana Downtown Houston location after a day of team building activities. We called ahead to make sure that they could accomodate our large party. As we were already in the area, we walked in and waited in the lobby for the rest of our party to join us. The restaurant area and bathrooms were very clean. The staff do an excellent job making sure they are ready for the next set of customers. The food at Benihana is an experience for your palette. The flavor profiles are always on point. The chefs do an excellent job of making sure everyone is satisfied. We enjoyed: - Spicy Edamame - Pan fried gyoza dumplings - Crispy rice spicy tuna - Miso soup - Benihana salad - Benihana onion soup - Sushi & Sashimi Combination - Hibachi scallops with hibachi chicken fried rice - Surf side - Ocean treasure The food was amazing. So we had theatre tickets and arrived too late for the hibachi show. We were sad, but still wanted to try the food. 2 of my party had never eaten at Benihanas and if they like the flavor we'd plan to return. We ordered a blitz of appetizers with the idea it would be faster. The flavor was alright (the onion soup was remarkably bland.) the service on the other had left much to be desired. 25+ minutes from order to getting the soups and salad. Another 15.+ minutes to get first appetizers (2 of the 4) and almost 10 minutes to get the other 2. The wait was not even the main issue. Our server, Veasna, was inattentive to say the least. I asked if my wife could taste the ginger salad dressing and Veasna smiled and nodded and went to another table to apparently chat with the customers there (they already had their food and it seemed it was a conversation--I of course could have misread the situation.) she stopped by the table 4 time after we ordered. 3 were to drop off food and the 4th was do deliver the check. Second time we ate in the dining room and service was very nice even with the restaurant being packed. Both times the food was really good. There is a dress code.
