Been dying for some sushi the last week and decided to walk over this evening for an easy date night. Upon entering we were one of only a couple tables. Hopefully I have a texture thing about seaweed on the outside which I feel isn't completely crazy. I provided to ask for my rice to be on the outside which has never been an issue at any sushi restaurants I have been to nor has it been here. Well you'd have thought I asked for something completely insane tonight. I was told no along with reconfirmation. I understood and moved on. Luckily they did end up coming up with asking if I'd like the upcharge of the soy paper which I went with since I know otherwise I wouldn't have ate the majority of our meal since even the Philly roll has the seaweed on the outside here. Inside they have some pretty niche Japanese music that seems to skew towards the younger girl demographic, it was like nails on chalk for even a large anime fan like myself. Other than that the seating was fine and the decor was fun. Truthfully I thought all the items we ordered here were on par in some ways with some of the best Japanese joints I've been to in Houston. The ramen was velvety and full of rich flavor, and the toppings didn't feel like an after thought in terms of quality. Miyabi is your typical neighborhood sushi and ramen spot. Located on Washington and Studemont in a shopping center. Plenty of parking out front. The menu is slightly overwhelming with the amount of different rolls and ramen options; it's a bit busy. Compared to almost every other dine in sushi spot, the value proposition is here. The ramen and sushi rolls are very reasonably priced for 2025; pricing is right above HEB sushi rolls and below everybody else. We got some sashimi, nigiri, split a tonkotsu ramen bowl, and some rolls. The sashimi and nigiri was on the weaker side. The portions were fairly large but it feels like the quality isn't quite on the level of the higher end spots. The ramen is decent; nothing crazy but a good bowl for the price. The sushi rolls are your typical fusion style rolls; most were solid even though there are a lot of overlap between the rolls in terms of sauces and ingredients. The only roll that wasn't great was the beef filled cowboy roll, which had fairly overcooked meats. The interior is clean and played some very interesting Japanese nightcore music. Last night we dined in the restaurant and had a great meal. My husband's ramen was flavored well with a thick, hearty, and spicy broth. He asked for extra noodles so he could finish it all off. I also tried the seaweed salad, and they gave me a complimentary cream cheese tempura. The skydiver roll is made of soft shell crab inside, eel and avocado on top, topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo. I thought I was going to like this but honestly I thought it was just ok. The eel didn't stand out too much and the soft shell crab was just ok as well. The sexy mama roll has scallop and cucumber inside, topped with salmon, spicy crab, tempura flakes, and spicy mayo. This was my favorite roll that I ordered. The sweet soy sauce that the roll sits in was so good. The roll was fresh and I love it when rolls have crunchy tempura flakes on top. The new York roll also had soft shell crab inside and was topped with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail like a rainbow roll. This one is also topped with spicy mayo and the sweet soy sauce that I liked. This was my second favorite roll of the 3. The seaweed salad was a solid appetizer. I ordered a vegetable roll and a avocado roll. Both came out looking beautiful but they were definitely on the smaller side. The rolls were also like $5 each so that's expected. The flavor was decent, it felt like the rice didn't taste like sushi rice and that I needed to dip it into soy sauce for the flavor to really pop. Came here on a whim with my husband and we celebrated our 3 year anniversary here. The decor is aesthetically pleasing and fits the theme of their restaurant. The service is immaculate. She was very welcoming, offered suggestions and was very warm during service. We ordered lots of food so let's have a break down. For appetizers, I got the sunomono and the baked mussels. The sunomono was well balanced and tasted super refreshing. Lots of cucumbers if you guys like an abundance of it. This dish was amazing for cleansing our palate when we eat the more heavier dishes which was nice. Although it started as an appetizer, it stayed on the table with the main course too. 5/5 Baked mussels were also amazing. It was really filling and I liked that they decorated the plate with rice too (not too much where it was a waste but perfect enough to eat with mussels if you wanted). The filling or sauce that was put on top of the mussels had imitation crab that made it more filling as well. I never had baked mussels with crab in it before so that was new. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. So did my husband. 5/5 Miyabi roll: I'm going to be perfectly honest. I think this might be my least favorite of the meal. It was tasty but I felt like something's missing. It felt heavy because it was fried. My husband said it reminded him of the state fair because of the batter taste. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. 2/5 Hot papa roll: If you want a spicy kick, then this roll is it for you. Spicy tuna, Serrano, sriracha, chili powder etc. The flavor list were off the charts. This one isn't half bad. 4/5 Sushi: we ordered a variety of sushi and it was delicious. The fishes were definitely fresh and all of them melted in my mouth the way that it should. Toro here is okay though. It didn't immediately melt like other places but near the end of the swallow it did. The fatty salmon and regular salmon tasted almost identical tbh but I didn't mind that. I was hoping for a slight difference in texture and taste because one was suppose to be more fattier. Overall, my favorite part of the meal was that course. I'll give it a 3.8/5 We were too full to try and finish my husbands hand rolls. They came out last and by that time we were too full to enjoy and experience them so we took them home. As I write this review and uploaded pictures, I'm sad to noticed that I didn't review my check before coming home. I've noticed that none of my sashimi orders came out. I completely forgot about them until today. I also ordered 2 orders of escolar sashimi and fatty yellowtail sashimi. Rip. I'm really sad now. I hope I didn't pay for something that didn't come out. There's no way of checking now. But overall from yesterdays experience I would give it a 3.9/5 and rounded up to 4 stars. I visited here because I was looking for ramen in the area and wanted to try a new spot. I know Jinya is nearby, but I've been too many times and wanted something new. Besides, this restaurant is very highly rated on yelp, so why not? At the time of writing, they have 7 versions of ramen, with 3 having seafood in them. The steak ramen is only $1 more than the tonkatsu. They are slightly chincy because the steak doesn't come with egg, and if you do order a ramen with an egg, you only get 1/2. They do offer two types of noodles in your ramen; however, the standard noodles are soft, and the firm noodle is $1 more. I came with a small group and ordered a few tonkatsu ramen, a steak ramen, avocado roll, and shaggy dog roll. They offered a complimentary appetizer, but in the end, the mess up kind of left a bad taste in everyone's mouths. The ramen came out very thin and tasted like tap water, even though the color of broth was similar to what it should be. My initial thought was, "Is this a joke?" We brought this to their attention, and they immediately knew what was wrong and brought out a cup of a thick milky sauce. After pouring this into each bowl, it improved the broth significantly, even though the cook still claimed that he put it in all the bowls already. The complimentary app was tempura cream cheese and this was decent. I can't really give much more than 3 stars since the food was just average. read more

Here are some items that I tried. * Gyoza- the filling was good & it was moist. But the outer shell was a little undercooked & tasted gummy. 3/5 * Cream cheese tempura- very good. The batter was flaky and the texture was on point. The cream cheese on the inside was delicious. 4.5/5 * Steak Ramen- I loved the broth, it was garlicky. The ribeye was too rubbery for my liking. It needs to be cooked less. The noodles were overcooked. 3.7/5 * Lobster Ramen- the broth was decent but needed more seasoning to give it some oomph. I thought the sodium level was just right. Not bland and not too salty. The lobster had a nice bouncy texture to it. The egg was gooey in the middle just the way I like it. The noodles were overcooked, it barley had any chew to it. 3.5/5 Overall, the food was pretty good but the service is what gave it a 5 stars. The only suggestion that I have is, giving us an option of soft or firm noodles. I prefer mine to be firm because I like a perfect Al dente. Other than that, this is a solid spot to go for a nice quiet lunch/dinner. Will I come back? You bet I will. Next time I'll try their sushi.
