Really poor experience. Service was super slow. Chef was super scattered and left out giving us any sauces that go with the steak veggie or chicken. Didn't sauté our steaks in teriyaki we paid for and just passed us the sauce to drizzle over after we asked about it. Doesn't compare to a normal Japanese steak house with those awesome chefs doing all the tricks. Really I would never go back or recommend it. Here's the good- No wait and it was happy hour. Here's the bad- the food was horrible . We had wings that were overcooked, dumplings that were a frozen joke, and a shrimp sushi roll that left us asking "where's the shrimp"? This is the only yelp review I've ever left but felt the need to do so after the service we received. We had a 5:30 reservation to sit at one of the tables with a grill and once seated we sat at the table for at least an hour and a half with no chef showing up until we said that we were probably going to leave to go somewhere else. I don't blame the chefs or the servers as this is not their fault and they were nice and attentive. When we left the manager was very rude and talking bad about us and said this is normal and that they only have 4 chefs. If that's the case then they shouldn't take more reservations than they can handle, or at least let us know before we are seated. When we were seated there were 5 other parties of 6+ that were also seated at the same time and only one had a chef at the grill. Definitely won't be going back not only because of the service but also because of how management handled the situation. A simple apology would have sufficed. read more

Our group of 11 (including two little ones) went to celebrate a family members 20th birthday...all happy to get together & entertained by the chef. We were seated around a hot grill with very little air conditioning. After waiting 1hour & 15 minutes we asked if there was a problem. They said the cart was on the way. 15 more minutes passed so we said should we come back another time. The little lady said he's coming... almost through. As he rolled up to our table, the table next to us (who were obviously celebrating a birthday too) sadly gathered their things & left without being served. They were seated at the same time as us. The hatless cook was too exhausted to even smile & so were we. The little ones were being rocked & consoled. Some of us were famished & some had lost their appetite after waiting for so long over a hot grill. The steak was very fatty & of low quality. The salad wilted iceberg & dressing. The sad people sang a listless 'happy birthday' & gave the birthday girl a semi melted bowl of sherbet. We couldn't leave fast enough! This was a sad occasion that was made so by Benihana. Note - this isn't fast food. We voted on a Tuesday - reservations for 5:15 and we didn't get out till 7:10. Just warning everyone who won't tolerate long dinners (I noted the recent very bad experiences). Overall, my wife and I had a great time, though this was due more to our state of minds (and the happenstance of getting others at our table who were instant companions) than the experience. We arrived about 5, for reservations @ 5:15 . We were told we'd be seated as soon as a server or chef (can't recall which) was available. We were seated with 6 others - a full table - by maybe 5:30. So far so good. The waitress arrived shortly after for drink orders, which took a while - several of our 'group' ordered at the bar to take advantage of happy hour prices and 3 sushi orders were put in. I think this could have been done more efficiently. Our chef - Daryl (I think!) was relatively new, but quite good and responsive. Everyone seemed to love their food - including soup/salad/appetizer shrimp, and entrees thought my scallops were a bit tough (overcooked?). After dinner, 2 people who had Birthday certificates had to wait as the waitress (who was quite new) got the manager involved to process them correctly. Those with ice cream on their menu had to remind the waitress a couple times for them. She was pleasant so not mentioning her name. This was one of those days where we just didn't mind (It's the journey, not the destination). I'm sure she'll learn. We got out of the restaurant about 7:10. I realize this isn't fast food, but we're also not French, so I can imagine others losing patience. I have friends who I would avoid going there with, as they would be grousing about the mistakes/waits/cost. Oh yes about - this isn't cheap either. Your average entree will be about $35 and up. Our total was $110 with a sake flight and lemonade. Our group (the others were unknown to us) got along quite well, and I think this contributed to our enjoyment. We were visiting family in Memphis and came to this location. We weren't exactly sure what to expect after seeing a 2 star review however loving Benihana back home, we decided to try it. The chef is the only part that made the experience star worthy. He was funny, and a great cook. He asked us all if our steak looked good or if we wanted it cooked more. I prefer a bit more cooked on outside- with the fried marks, and it was more steamed than I'd like BUT it was still great. We waited 20 mins for a table, ok, not unusual for Benihana, but when we were seated, we waited 40 mins for drinks alone. It wasn't insanely busy, so I was shocked. And the passion fruit matcha was not the best I've had. Could be the fruit is not in season, fine, but the wait, not cool. Especially with a visible manager on the floor and what seemed to be only 2 waitresses for both bar area and hibachi tables, which at the time were only 2 tables full. We didn't get asked if we wanted refills. Maybe it's different in Memphis but we also got offered soup OR salad and back home, we get both. All in all not the best experience and more disappointing observing that a manager on the floor didn't pick up on it either. We will not be back. Don't waste your money here. read more

Worst hibachi experience ever. Warning to all parents - kids menu is ridiculously expensive. I can't believe I spent $50 to feed an eight-year-old and an 11-year-old. The service was subpar. We had food being cooked in front of us and still hadn't received any soups or salads-one of our drinks didn't come at all...steamed rice didn't come...no waters refilled.... The "chef" came out and after, confirming our orders never said another word to us. The entire table! Cooked food, glared at us, threw it at us and then left. We had to ask for the kids ice cream three times... But after telling them that it was coming there was no backing down. Absolutely my last trip to Benihana and definitely the worst. We then sat at the table to 30 minutes before a server took our drink orders. Prices on the menus posted are wrong. They up charge you $6 for fried rice and the chicken hibachi is $28. Our chef did not do a show at all. He came out and made the food in front of us not had 0 personality but was generous with the sauces. We left at 9:45, 3.5 hours after our reservation. Before I get into the list of reasons why my (and my group) had such a terrible night, lemme start off by saying, the food tastes great. The chef we had was very friendly and accommodating. Keep in mind, I have worked in the service industry as a server, hostess and food runner since I could start working. With that being said, from start to finish (food/chef aside), the system was so dysfunctional. My friend made a reservation in person for a party of 12 at 7pm on a Monday night for her birthday. The restaurant was happy to oblige. Her and her bf arrive and are told they can't be sat without the whole party present (fair, i get it). The whole party arrives, and we are sat at a hibachi table only big enough to fit 10 people :/ She explains to the hostesses that the reservation was for 12 and the hostess proceeds to argue back and forth with her about how it said 8 and not 12 so our remaining 2 people would have to sit at the bar ??? What??? No. The hostess next to her whispers "It actually was set for 12..." There is another hibachi table about 5 feet next to us and the first hostess proceeds to say the other two people can sit there... We ended up just pulling up two chairs and making our whole group scoot and squeeze to make room for two people to end up eating on the edge/corner of the table :/ Now that that was settled i guess we move on to the actual dining part. The table service itself from our waiter Dekale was unfortunately a 1/10 for me. It started out fine with them putting tableware and waters to everyone. Getting our drink order just fine and we get our orders in and soup and salad is brought out to us. After that point we saw nobody for the next hour and a half. The hibachi stove has been on the whole time btw. We are watching 2-3 other tables receive hibachi service while we sit with our finished drinks, soups and salads. A member of our group decides to go find the server and explain how we've been waiting for a while with no hibachi chef in sight. He responds with a vague "someone will be there shortly" answer. Another 30 mins goes by. We have now been in the restaurant for a solid 2.5 hours with no entrees and empty drinks. It is 9:30, the restaurant closes at 10... We alert the manager Bianca of the situation, she checks the back for "a chef who might be laying around somewhere back there" (the actual response) Finally a hibachi chef arrives! He double checks to make sure our orders are correct and he gets to work. He apologized for the delay. He tells the server to come back over and refresh our drinks (this is now the second time our server has been alerted of our needs). When we try to order more bar/alcoholic drinks the server explains "the bar is now officially closed so we can no longer do alcoholic drinks" Are you kidding me? So because you did not come by to check on your table that has been sitting without a chef or server for over an hour, we can no longer order anymore bar drinks due to closing time. Make it make sense please. The chef was awesome, I did not catch his name unfortunately he was a little older but super friendly. When we ask if he can alert someone about doing a birthday chant for our birthday girl (who is now on the verge of tears btw) he says okay he'll let someone know. Nobody came by with a red tambourine to sing happy birthday... To top the night off, we call the manager over to discuss some sort of compensation for the unfortunate series that has unfolded, she obliges but adds "we just came into new management and new chefs so things have been a bit weird". We receive our checks, sooo slowly I might add and with a slight attitude from the server over it. When we check the tickets. The discount on an almost $140 check was only $16 but the automatic gratuity added was $19.50. Sooooo am I crazy for thinking that that's bull??? It is now 11pm, an hour past closing, we have had to send our checks back multiple times to get the correct items put on the correct checks and the discount was pretty mute given everything that happened. We pay, we leave, my birthday girl cried :( I really hope this becomes a learning opportunity for Benihana cause my birthday girl has been coming to Benihana for every birthday for the last 15yrs. I've been a long time lover of Benihana, but I just don't know if I can keep going back. Every time I go to this location the service is unbelievably slow, especially considering how not busy it is each time I go. The last time I was seated at the stove top the show was unbearable. It just wasn't a show, at all. The whole reason I come is to see the cool show, and they just handed some guy an apron and told him to cook our food. I don't pay $20 for my 8 year old's kids meal to just watch someone fry rice and cook shrimp for 10 minutes before serving it. Meanwhile, the prices have skyrocketed. I like the sushi. And the meals (barring overcooked shrimp). And the mango lemonade. It's all really delicious. But is it worth the price? I really don't think so. read more

Ever since I can remember, Benihana has been the talk of the town when it comes to hibachi. I finally decided to dine in and experience this place for myself. Upon dining in, my guest and I were told it would be a few mins longer. This would've been fine, but we actually had reservations. 15 mins later, we were seated in a crowded area (when we specifically requested a separate side). Finally, almost a total of 20 mins later, we were able to sit at a desired table. The appetizers (spring roll & soup) were great. The combination sushi was also fresh. Our su chef was super friendly, however the hibachi was sub par. The rice was overly seasoned with pepper. So much so, that pepper was completely over our plates. Despite the wait and overly seasoned hibachi, I'm sure under different circumstances this would've been a much better experience. read more

Benihana take out is a total ripoff!! I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi entree with no onions, extra zucchini, and no onion in the fried rice. I didn't get any chicken. I got 3 small pieces of zucchini and the rest was onions.I did not get fried rice, I received steamed rice. I paid $40 dollars for a meal that wouldn't be enough for my 4 year old grandson!
