Ruth's Chris Steak House will always be my favorite restaurant in Memphis! The steaks are absolutely delicious -- so flavorful that no sauce is even needed. The Caesar salad is always a great choice, and I love their garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered the macaroni and cheese without the lobster. It wasn't as good as usual this time since it wasn't served hot and fresh, but overall the food and service were still excellent. The restaurant is kind of dimmed, very romantic setting. We chose Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for my mother's birthday dinner and it was a fine choice indeed. We were warmly greeted by our hostess upon entry, and there was a quiet and classy ambiance about the restaurant from the start. Asked if we were celebrating any special occasion, I informed the hostess of my mother's birthday and she grabbed a card and some confetti to add a little extra to our meal. Seated promptly and we put in our drinks order. I had a beer (which is not on the standard menu), and my mother and cousin had wine. My mother ordered the prefixed menu with a filet and shrimp, along with mashed potatoes and a house salad. I had the 11oz filet with potatoes and a Caesar salad. My cousin had a wedge salad and calamari. We were offered bread pudding for dessert. We asked for the dessert to go since we were having cake, and the boxed it to go and then brought us out an additional special dessert with happy birthday written in chocolate for my mother to make a wish and have a little extra special experience. The food was delicious, and so well prepared, the service was incredible, and everything was delightful. Got the dinner special meal for $60 which includes a choice of entree with add ons, salad or soup, one side and a choice of regular cheesecake or chocolate cheesecake. Or if want can pay "up charge" of $5 for choice of any of the other desserts on the menu. We paid the up charge and got the chocolate lava cake. That was well worth paying the extra. I went for Thanksgiving and the food was awful! The turkey was salty, the dressing was gummy and cold and the mashed potatoes were swimming in butter. My service was just okay, I've definitely had better service at similarly priced restaurants. The service when you checked in was also just okay. The restaurant itself was really dark which I didn't love but the space itself was nice expect the total seats in the bathroom appeared to have stains on them which was gross. Came here on a Sunday right at 4 PM and that is when the doors opened, they did not open the doors until exactly 4 PM. We were escorted to our seats by the manager, and he was very pleasant. We ordered martinis which were very good. The goat cheese spinach dip was not my favorite so I probably would not get that again as It wasn't hot enough for me, it was just OK. The steak sandwich had plenty of steak on it. Not sure if it paired well with the bread and lettuce and tomato but the steak on it was really good. I am not one to leave reviews very often but my experience at Ruth's Chris was beyond exceptional! I believe my servers name was Nicole and she was fantastic. She stopped by the perfect amount of times, without hovering, she was right on with drinks, and she was polite and conversational. The seared ahi tuna appetizer was wonderful. My steak was cooked to perfection, med rare, and the salt and pepper only was a delight in this world of over seasoned meats. The cut was superb and tender. I added asparagus and a lobster tail to the side and both were very good. The atmosphere was light and friendly with perfectly dim lighting. It was nice that the manager, Scott, stopped by the table to check on everything as well. Just a great experience and excellent food! I love the food at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Memphis. But, I had a terrible experience with a manager last night. I was in attendance for a pharmaceutical dinner and apparently there were more people than seats - we were simply waiting where the wait staff asked us to wait by the room. The manager very rudely walked up and demanded that we wait in the front as we were "disturbing his patrons".... we are professionals, there was one group on the other side of the area and we were quiet and simply waiting. Your food is great but your manager (large older, crotchety caucasian man) needs training - as we spent alot of money with your restaurant that night and take colleagues often. This Ruth Chris is at the corner of a major intersection so it is easy to see. It shares its parking lot with a strip mall. I came here with my dad for happy hour. The bar happy hour is pretty nice and the service is good. When you order the burger, they will give you multiple choices. First choice is how you want the meat cooked. I chose medium and juices squirted out of the burger on my first bite. I thought I stained myself. Burger was extremely tender. Second choice is type of cheese and they have blue cheese, cheddar, and American. Third choice is toppings (lettuce, onions, and tomatoes). Be sure to ask for pickles and mayo. The food is classic Ruth's Chris. I went for the larger filet, one son had the prix fixe and another had the T-bone for two. Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes as sides, creme brulee done to perfection with hard sugar coating, and apple pie a la mode that seemed like a whole pie. The evening we went was suppppper busy so service was a little slower than we liked. For dinner, I ordered the lamb chops and grilled asparagus. I did order a pomegranate martini as well. The lamb chops were sooo good! I love a good lamb chop and these definitely hit the spot for me. The asparagus was also very good. He ordered the 24oz steak added a lobster for $20. I ordered the creamed spinach and salmon. Honestly I didn't care for the Salmon, it was too "fishy" and my stomach couldn't handle it! To celebrate my birthday I chose Ruth Chris to spend the evening. To start, the reservation process was really easy. Once we made it to the restaurant, it didn't take us long to be seated. They had very cute touches on the table with confetti and a happy birthday card. Next, we started with an appetizer. I had the Lobster Bisque. It was ok. I wish it had come with crackers or some type of bread (I used the complimentary bread) it made it much more enjoyable. For dinner, I had Salmon and the Sweet Potato Casserole. The Salmon was delicious! I loved the sauce that was drizzled on it. I had a bit of a sweet and savory flavor. The casserole was pretty good. To end the night, I had Bread Pudding for dessert. My girlfriend and I were traveling through Memphis on the way back to Georgia on 10/1. It was a special occasion so I ordered a nice bottle of wine, Caymus 50th Anniversary Cabernet. I thought the price was reasonable but I had actually misread the wine menu. I was surprised when the bill came and discovered I was charged $240. Obviously, I drank it so i paid the bill. This past weekend i visited my local Costco and was SHOCKED to see the exact same wine at $69.99/bottle. Having spent my career in retail management I know about margins and the need to make a profit. And it's not uncommon to see a 100-150% markup over retial for wine, especially for better wines. But this was over the top, 200%+ over RETAIL, which a restaurant never pays (If they do i would suggest they start buying from Costco). Bottom line, I'm not saying i won't visit another Ruths Chris in the future but it's the last bottle of wine I will purchase from them. Another important point; the service was very good. read more

The establishment is in a great location and the wait time to be seated wasn't long even though I was a tad surprised since I had a reservation but the staff was highly communicative so we didn't mind. Our food was great. We had lamb, petite filets and a host of sides. We had one issue and that's with the lobster mac! Whatever the truffle cream/butter is....it's not working folks. Based on prior positive visits, I chose this location to celebrate an event with my sweetie. The online reservation system worked perfectly. We arrived fifteen minutes early in order to avoid any issues. Perhaps it was a supply chain issue, but the restaurant was out of the white wine that my wife ordered. Also, no dice with the wedge salad that I requested. For an appetizer, we shared the crab-stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious. As we were finishing up our soup and salad, our main entrées arrived. Before tax, our bill was about $210.00. For that price, the restaurant could certainly accomplish perfect pacing of the meal. Our waiter explained that the wedge salad outage was what had affected the meal's timing. Okay... I love steak filets. So, I ordered the "bone-in filet" (16 ounces), with very little salt. Mistake. If you enjoy a fatty piece of meat and having to battle prying meat from a bone, then this is up your alley. (For me, however, I will next time order a boneless filet, and probably at Folks Folly. I'm imagining that they will also follow my directions regarding sodium). I tried my wife's petite filet, and it was extraordinary. Lesson learned. The roasted brussel sprouts were wonderfully prepared, as well as my wife's mashed potatoes. The manager stopped by our table, and I politely let him know about the so-called filet. He agreed to comp me some crème brûlée for dessert. However, since this was already a celebration event that the restaurant had acknowledged by decorating the table, I thought that perhaps that they were already going to give us something for free anyway. We're no snobs, but this restaurant clearly doesn't really have much of a dress code, anymore. About 60% of the patrons were in jeans, T-shirts, etc. The way I was raised, if you went out to eat at even a moderately fancy restaurant, you got dressed up, or in extreme cases, even wore a necktie. First of all I couldn't tell you when the last time I actually ordered a steak while out to dinner because my husband has me spoiled with grilling a mean steak at home.
