This is a disappointment and a toughie ... We came for my birthday due to a generous $50 birthday reward from the company themselves (easy sign up with an interesting app name). My, my, my, how this spot has changed over a ten plus year period! Service was warm, albeit slow. We had reservations and were promptly seated with another couple, then a single man. Beverages came out quickly, but then we waited and waited for soup and salad... I was so hungry and was truly puzzled, as it wasn't crowded at an early 5 pm. time. We thought our server was Armando, who took our orders, but then Rob came over and introduced himself? He was cordial, funny, and a great cook. All enjoyed our conversation as well. Yummy soup; not good ginger salad though; my only food "ding." No more fun fanfare of the "onion train" and tricks, as expected, and what Benihana is known for... Rob did a few fun things but it just wasn't the same :( Our chicken fried rice, my scallops and filet were amazingly delicious and served perfectly (rare for moi). I also loved the seasoned zucchini and white rice! The Yummy sauce truly lived up to its name!!! I used my whole small plate all over my dish! Although they knew and wished me a happy birthday, no singing like at another table earlier, or complimentary ice-cream. I don't care for being in the spotlight, but felt cheated. Props to the sweet hostesses, Courtney and Tina. Sherrett, the manager was nice too. I think he listened to my ginger salad comment. The time from getting seated to actually getting food on the cooktop was about an hour long. Our server seemed inexperienced and messed up our order. The chef tried to make up for it but ultimately was confused and we did not get the proper courses. As far as the 'show' part of the hibachi experience, it was not very entertaining. I think it was a busy night as we overheard other guests complaining about wait time. The bathroom floor was slippery and I notified the staff who didn't address it. We made the best of it, but I would try a different option for Hibachi as there are others in the area. read more

This was one of my most disappointing dining experiences. I will not be returning. The service was subpar, and the manager was unprofessional. The head chef's conduct was equally unacceptable. The bathroom and overall ambiance were in a state of disrepair, with visible dirt and grime. I had to request that my food be removed from my bill. The head chef cooked without gloves, and his hands were visibly stained with lemon juice, which was then transferred to the food. I rarely leave negative reviews because I understand restaurants have busy nights and mistakes happen. However, my experience at Benihana on July 16 around 9:15 p.m. was disappointing enough that I felt it was worth sharing. It was my birthday, and I had received a $50 Friends With Benefits birthday certificate. Before coming in, I called because the email didn't contain a QR code or clear instructions. I was told that all I needed was my Friends With Benefits account number to redeem the reward. At no point was I told I would need to download the Benihana Loyalty app. My friend and I arrived before closing, fully aware it was late. If we had been told the restaurant couldn't provide the full dining experience that night, we would have completely understood and happily come back another day. Instead, we were seated, immediately told, "You guys have to be quick," and treated as though we were an inconvenience. Since it was our first visit, we also weren't told that Rocky's Choice, the six-course meal, included a choice of fried rice or noodles. No one explained the menu or even asked what we wanted. The biggest issue was that we didn't receive everything we paid for. Our meal was supposed to include rice and ice cream, but we only received the vegetables, shrimp, chicken, and steak. When we asked about the rice, we were repeatedly told it was "coming right up." We waited 10-15 minutes while our food got cold before finally eating without it. After we had already finished, someone came over and asked, "Did you guys still want that rice?" At that point, what purpose would plain white rice have served? Had someone simply told us the rice wasn't available, we would have understood. Instead, we were left waiting for something that never came. We also never received the ice cream included with the meal. We paid for a six-course meal but didn't receive the full six-course meal, and no one apologized or attempted to make it right. The most disappointing part of the evening was the manager, identifiable by a neck tattoo. When I tried to redeem my birthday reward, he insisted I needed the Benihana Loyalty app, despite me calling ahead and being told my account number was all I needed. When I couldn't find the app, he spoke to me in a passive-aggressive, condescending manner, even though he couldn't find it himself when he took my phone. Instead of acknowledging the issue, he handed my phone back and walked away. We eventually figured it out on our own. To make matters worse, the staff asked if we were celebrating a birthday, and I told them it was mine. They later sang Happy Birthday to the table next to us but completely skipped mine. I understand we arrived close to closing, but that doesn't excuse charging customers for a six-course meal without providing everything that was included or treating them disrespectfully when they follow the instructions your own staff gave them. If it was truly too late to provide the full experience, all someone had to do was tell us--we would have gladly come back another day. Instead, the restaurant accepted our business while making us feel rushed, dismissed, and unwelcome. Service was ok. when you walk in, it looks a bit run down, but the hibachi grills are at another table which you're put into groups based on your reservation time.. food was edible. They would not accept more than one credit card and the pricing was absolutely incorrect and we tried to them and they just would not listen. The manager was INCREDIBLY rude. We were packed in with another couple at the table, at no fault Of their own. We have 6 grown adult men and myself, a petite female. There just was not enough space at this table with 2 more people at the end of our table. We kindly asked the manager about moving to another table of our own, due to space. He declined it several times and had no interest in accommodating our large group. It's a shame because they just lost a $2k bill. We chose to not support this establishment due to their rude behavior and as we were walking out the manager said "whatever it's ok that you leave." ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Shame on Benihana! read more

This review is by no means an expression of the staff who cooked and served our food. This review is based on an experience where we did what was needed by making a reservation and the time nor wait afterwards was respected. When we arrived, we had a 6 PM reservation. When we got there at 5:40 PM, we were told that it would be about 30 to 45 minutes. Then, around 6 PM, we were told that it was going to be about another 30 minutes. Since we came specifically for hibachi, we went across the street and ran some errands and we're called to come back. We were then sat around 7 PM and didn't eat until probably around 8 PM. We had kids at the table who were beyond hungry, and there was nothing done from the manager except offer a 15% discount which barely covered the tip. The food portions were very small even though they were cooked very well and the chef was accommodating. Wouldn't recommend. More staff and explanations of realistic time are needed - they shouldn't have taken reservations if they were unable to accommodate or offer realistic times. read more

Went in as a walk in so we waited for about 20 mins. Not too bad. Got seated and noticed the grille was dirty had left oil from the previous cook. There was a make shift air duct this wrapped around the restaurant. Which I thought was odd. The people next to us asked for plastic forks and cleaner plates to eat on. Food was below standard. Chicken was over cooked and felt like I was chewing a well done steak. Definitely not worth the price and visit. This is my first and will be my last time visiting this location. read more

The cook did a great job! He was friendly, professional and entertaining. The food was made quickly enough but we had to wait a very long time to get the check. We sat down at around 12:10PM and didn't leave until 2PM. When they brought the check , we paid it right away because we had to leave but when we got to the car we noticed that each Margarita was $19. This was not a top-shelf margarita so we couldn't understand why $19. The restaurant is in Pennsauken, NJ not New York City. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager and she said that's what the restaurant charges and there isn't anything that she can do about it. I told her that I totally understand that it's not her fault but we will be boycotting the restaurant going forward. The worst part was there is a $7 upgrade charge for fried rice.... If you didn't pay you just got plain steamed rice on your plate and then the okay zucchini and onions with your meat. DO NOT ORDER FOOD HERE!! Absolutely disgusting. I only ordered from here because take out/delivery reviews were not bad and i had a giftcard. I should of went with all the horrendous reviews on here. First i set a pick up time of 9:00 and got there at 9:01 to be told my food was not ready. It was finally ready around 9:20. No biggie ... except they were not busy. The food was literally inedible. It was so disgusting and tasted soaked in butter and grease. I am NOT a picky eater by any means but when you spend $76 on food you expect to get some good tasting food. The first picture is $48.50 worth of food. Didnt even get rice with it i (even though its supposed to be included) had to order that seprate. And it was straight butter on rice with one pice of shrimp chopped up on top . The sauces are TERRIBLE and taste nothing like yum yum sauce. I also ordered a california roll thinking if the rest isnt great i can always eat that cause i mean who messes up a california roll. First piece was ok so tried another and literally spit it all out. I guess sitting it on the counter for however long before i came to pick up may of done that. When i called to complain and asked for money back (i actually said i dont want the gift card amount back just the $25 i paid.) The manager who mumbled into the phone told me that i had to drive the 20 minutes back with the food and they can replace it or refund me. I asked if he was going to pay for my gas too since they wanted me to drive all the way back. This place needs to be put out of buisness. Went to Benihanna's decades ago and it was expensive, but the food and ambiance was excellent. The one I went to last night, same building, wasn't. Apparently now a franchise. Lets start with the ambiance. The place was cold and drafty, even with the tables turned on. The floor was carpeted and dirty. Spilled food on the floor. There was a clear soft plastic 20 inch round pipe, that hung from the ceiling, that circled the room, with condensation lying in the bottom. What this was for, I have no idea. The food: I had the Hibachi steak with the usual vegetables and a chicken fried rice. This also came with soup and salad. I had water to drink. The soup wasn't very tasty or hot. The salad may have been made yesterday as you could tell it was right out of the fridge with the lettuce wilted and water at the bottom of the bowl. The Hibachi steak was so so. Cooked well done and not cooked to medium as I asked. It also had a lot of gristle. Not tasty. The vegetables were julienned instead of chunks making them a bit hard to eat. Also not very tasty. The fried rice had no taste at all. Only way I could eat it was to put the ginger sauce, that came with the steak, on top and mix it in. Water had no ice. The chef: Entertaining, but he could have cooked more than one thing at a time, as that's the way it was served and eaten. Price: Four people over $200. It really wasn't worth the cost. Needless to say, I won't be back. BTW: Woke up at 3 AM with my stomach hurting. read more

Not necessarily my favorite, however the server was attentive and accommodating. The service was on point. The ambiance of the place was decent. I sat at the bar and was able to see how my drinks and food were made. Over all: 3 stars because the rolls weren't what I expected. The shrimps were delicious but I'm not a fan of sushi rolls with cream cheese inside (I may have some texture issues lol). I just don't find cream cheese flattering to sushi rolls. We visited this location when my wife received a $30 discount for her birthday. We decided to do the sit down restaurant portion. My first impression, it was interesting that I had to bring the menus to the table myself and just pick the table myself We ordered a sushi platter for the app. The soup and salad with the hibachi were great. Our sushi app was good. We were happy with our main meal. They took a photo to at happy birthday and our surprise they gave us the photo attacked. The women doing out waitress and photo was awesome. She came off like a manager and gave us a fun experience for her birthday. Hibachi places are all the same. I enjoyed this experience how they treated us for her birthday.
