Has been my favorite for many years but we had a reservation for a family meal on Christmas day and it was a bomb. Rice and no mustard sauce were the main problems. The rice had no taste. Maybe it's because of the lack of garlic butter sauce, but it just had no taste. And whatever you replaced The Mustard sauce with is lacking in taste. There were eight of us and several complained of a queasy stomach after we left the restaurant. I don't believe that I will ever eat there again. What a shame and you would think that a meal costing over $300 would at least be edible. I brought more than half of mine home and I'm now trying to decide whether to try it again or throw it out. We had seven orders of filet mignon and one of fish. Want to drive a business out of business, make the choices somebody did and changing the Spices And people will stop coming quickly. Very disappointed. While on a mini-getaway in Hutchinson Island, my partner and I decided to order Benihana to-go for dinner. I ordered the hibachi steak (no mushrooms, because I am allergic) and my partner ordered the shrimp lovers sushi roll. It was very busy that evening, so we sat at the bar until our order was ready. The lady attending the bar that night was NOT welcoming, in fact, she was quite stern with everyone who sat at the bar that evening. After 15 minutes, my partner and I decided to stand near the entrance and wait for our food because we couldn't take seeing the bartender treat guest in the manner she did. Once our food arrived, the host gave us our food and rushed us out the door. He didn't go over our order like most Benihana restaurants do. When we got back to our hotel, my hibachi steak was covered in mushrooms. Are you kidding me? I told him several times that I was allergic to mushrooms! What if I had eaten the steak? This would have been a totally different review! I was left to eat the bland, flavorless rice. Yuck. I've never tasted such awful fried rice. I spent over $45 for a meal that I could not eat. I've been calling the restaurant since that day and I have yet to hear back from a manager. When visiting Hutchinson Island again, I will scratch this location off my list of places to dine. This use to be my favorite go-to sushi place however I have been disappointed every time I go. I usually sit downstairs for happy hour and receive the worst service I've even had. Even on nights where there's only two tables down here, I still have to wait 20 minutes for my water. If you plan on coming here, I highly suggest going upstairs where they cook in front of you. It's worth the wait and a fun experience to watch your food be cooked right in front of you! I recommend the filet mignon dinner, it's quite delicious and comes with rice, salad, shrimp and veggies. How could Benihana get rid of the white sauce used during hibachi, Ive been to hibachi style restaurants all over this country and with every hibachi meal you get a ginger sauce generally brown and a creamy white sauce, but in chain like restaurant fashion such and Benihana lets replace what Delicious and people like with something cheaper and mediocre at best which is now a watery mustard base sauce that does not enhance the food at all. What a good manager would have done was to be sure to have some white sauce in the kitchen in case of a request by a customer but no was told they have non what so ever. I like the location of the restaurant. Beautiful place. Great if your going out for a special occasion. Not a fan of the hostess I encountered. She made my group feel inferior, but that might be because we are young and they don't feel the need to try and impress us. The show is really great. I enjoyed the waiter we had and the food was good. Especially the rice. I had the Fillet Mignon and scallops which was good but the portion size was small but filling. read more

It was actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Came here for a birthday dinner (not mine,lol) and was informed that we had to wait for our table to be ready in fifteen minutes which we were fine with because my guests and I headed towards the bar. This part I just wanted to complain a little. There weren't that many people at the bar and the bartender who was working behind the counter looked flustered, like he had so many orders to finish and this is the first time that I had to wait for a long time to place a drink order. I mean, really. I asked for an order twice and it never came with my drink so then I just ordered it when we were seated at the table. The waitress was friendly and had a bubbly personality. We were well taken care of and the food was surprisingly good. The fried rice is not phenomenal but it's flavorful and it's nothing but fried rice. The chef was attentive to our orders and the way we wanted our meats to be cooked on the teppan table. They were closing up towards the end and I noticed that my guests and I were the last, aside from the staff and chef, in the restaurant but the staff let us take our time to finish eating and packing which I felt was respectful and sweet. My order consisted of the Emperor's Salad with additional steak pieces. The salad comes in a large elongated bowl with lettuce, fresh avocado, thinly sliced cucumbers, carrots, raw onions, tomatoes (sliced like a four-petaled flower), grapefruit, and broccoli. This salad looks so much better than the standard salad that they serve you with the mushroom clear soup. With the salad, I was supposed to get an onion soup, shrimp appetizer, choice of brown, white, or fried rice, and hot Japanese green tea. The only thing that I didn't get from this was the onion soup unless it was the clear, mushroom soup then it sucked because there wasn't any onions in it. The steak was well cooked: rare; tender, juicy, and chewy. Really good. It is really just like any other hibachi/teppan restaurant. Nothing special, you're not missing much, to be honest however the decorations, interior design, and artwork hanging all around the restaurant is well done. read more

This is a pretty neat restaurant. It's amazing on the first and second visit, but then it just becomes a normal fancy restaurant. The teriyaki steak is definitely my favorite and I totally recommend it. If you decide to eat upstairs, you get to watch your food be made right in front of you. I know, Benihana. But C'mon! I haven't ever had a terrible time here ever. Good drinks, proper food, good sake selection. Lobster cooked perfect and people love being here. Entertaining, hot since you're sitting at the grill and sensitive the alt. eating styles (no land food). We have been going to the location in Scottsdale Arizona for many years. We have always had a wonderful time there with customer service being excellent. Sadly, last night at this location we had a terrible time. Our chef was not very personable and our waitress brought us to go boxes as soon as we got our meal. We felt rushed. Before we even finished our dinner she came to ask also if we would like dessert. The restaurant was not very busy so it was not as if they needed our table right away. There were many empty tables there. It was a disappointment because it was the first time one of our granddaughters had ever been there. Surprisingly vegan friendly. We had tofu hibachi with vegetable fried rice (without egg) and stir fried veggies. Without asking, they cooked the vegan food first to avoid cross contamination, and they knew to use safflower oil instead of butter. I'm a pescatarian and he didn't give a hoot about it. My family ordered extra rice portions and he barely filled the portion and added the chicken and then Just made fun of me not wanting more protein (chicken) in my rice! What disappoints me most is that I'm on vacation visiting my family and they always come here.. My family came here Saturday night as a party of six to celebrate my MBA graduation! This was my first time at a Benihana. I mentioned in the Open Table reservation that it was a first time visit and that we were celebrating. This led to us getting [what I thought was] the best table in the house. We were on the second floor right in front of the center window overlooking the water. We got to see a beautiful sunset! We liked how there were so many different options to choose from, but most of us ended up getting the Filet since we saw it at a nearby table and it looked delicious. Our chef was Byron and he had the perfect amount of humor for a group. He really made the night more of an event, rather than just dinner. Everyone loved their meals and only a couple of us were smart enough to save some for leftovers, rather than stuff ourselves. The waitress took our picture at the end of the night and had it printed out for us to take home, which was a sweet sentiment. While it is pricey, we would definitely come back for another special event! Pro Tip - dress warm, as the place it kept freezing in order to compensate for the hot grills! read more

The hibachi part was good and very entertaining...the other party at the table had many specifics which seemed to have been accommodated. Our waitress was a bit rude and seemed like she had somewhere else she'd rather be. I didn't even have time to look the menu over as she was in a rush. Why I'm giving only one star... check your bill carefully!!! My husband took me for my birthday and doesn't mind spending a bit of money for the occasion... when we got home I was looking at the bill (which we probably should have been more attentive with at the restaurant so partly our fault)... but gratuity was already added to our bill, not realizing that...we tipped on top of that...so our server made and extra $30 from us..it's a shame that guests are taken advantage of like that.. we work very hard for our money... so lesson learned... just check your bill so you don't get scammed like we did.. read more

Went to Benihana for a birthday celebration. We've been before and it's always been just ok, however there always seems to be an issue with something at Benihana. This time it was the hostess who made a nice evening into a stressful event. We were seated at table with a large family birthday party for several young children. We asked to be moved and were told that there would be a three hour wait. The place was less than half full and stayed that way all evening. I went online and made a new reservation for 15 minutes later. Don't think she was truthful about the 3 hour wait. read more

Really bad experience tonight. Tables comfortably seat 8 people. Went in tonight with a party of 7 and in the past that would make a table, unless they had a single which happened once. Tonight however they crammed 10 people at our table, literally elbow to elbow. Most uncomfortable dinner ever. I dont want to be crammed that close to family or friends, let alone to complete strangers. We have gone in the past as a party of 4, and dined at the table with 4 other people and had a great time. Not tonight. Add in that we waited over an hour before a chef appeared and started cooking and our server was clearly stretched as she disappeared for long periods and never asked us if we wanted drink refills, we had to catch her to ask. I would give no stars as the experience was that bad, but the chef and food, was and always is, excellent. Maybe management has changed and with it policy, as alm tables looked overcrowded. I took my husband tonight for his birthday. We brought another couple who have never been to Benihannas before. We sat with another group who was there to celebrate their daughters birthday. The food was ok. My steak was over done and the sauces tasted very salty. The other groups order was wrong. Over all not very impressed with the food. They never came out and sang happy birthday. They gave us the bill and didn't ask about dessert. Our meals included ice cream on the menu. None was offered or mentioned. I have been to this location several times in the past. It was always fabulous. I know it has been awhile but I can't believe how much it has changed. The atmosphere is different. The sauces I loved are different and not in a good way. read more

Second time this month I've gone to lunch here while sitting downstairs in the lounge area and I have never experienced such horrible and slow service in my life. The first time I waited 20 minutes for a menu and the second time, which was today, I stood by a table and waited 45 minutes for it to be cleaned off after asking 3 times. After I was finally seated I waited another 30 minutes for menus. I walked up to the waitress asking her why I've been waiting so long and why she hasn't come to our table and she shooed us away with her hands like she didn't care at all. The owner had to come down and deliver us our menus AND STILL nothing came from that. Three other tables looked over at us and told us we are better off leaving because they were dealing with the same issue. We got up and left. Absolutely unbelievable what I witnessed today from this restaurant. read more

The food was mediocre at best. All the other patrons seemed to be having the same issues. Hibachi delivered, but no rice.
