Realizing I hadn't yet reviewed my service from two months ago, I came to leave my experience here and was incredibly shocked to find some negative reviews. My experience was the complete opposite and I would recommend this salon to anyone! I was interested in a consultation for extensions and had first made an appointment with someone off Stone Oak Pkwy who actually ghosted me THREE times with no apology, no valid explanation - I took time off work for her each time, and each time I showed up, the doors were locked with a note that she had to leave. No phone call, no apology, nothing. Someone then recommended Benjamin and Desiree, the extensions expert, to me and I was able to get in the same day. She was very helpful and thoroughly explained my options, and I decided to go with a topper instead since my hair is pretty thin. She had the topper ready for me in a day, much quicker than even she had estimated. I went to pick it up and she taught me everything I needed to know about placement, care, and styling of the piece. She also trimmed and styled it to make it blend in with my natural hair, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! No on can even tell it's a topper, but they do notice I've done something "different" and give me many compliments. Even the stylists at my regular salon were amazed at how good and natural it looks after I went in to show them. The staff are all friendly and accommodating, the salon is very clean and minimalistic in design, but comfortable. I cannot praise and thank Desiree enough for the service she provided me, and I will definitely go back to Benjamin Hair & Co, especially for addressing my thinning hair. Truly the best! I have seen this place for years as I frequent Trader Joes. I finally visited after buying a Groupon for a facial. It has been years as my previous esthetician closed during COVID. Sad Face. I called to make an appointment and they were very accomdating with my schedule. So I showed up and Shawna was my assigned esthetician. She asked a lot of questions before starting and explained every step of the process. She was very thorough and I didn't realize two hours had gone by before she finished. I went in for a perm, and was happy with the job that Damian done with my hair. But I was shocked by the bill! Before I made the appointment, I inquired about the pricing for a permanent. The receptionist quoted $130.00. She failed to mention that the price does not include a haircut which is $85. (Who would going in for a perm without a hair trim?). In addition, they added some charges to the perm for reasons not known to me. At the check out, I was presented with a bill of $275.00 without the break down! My hair is so short (after repeatedly telling him I didn't want it too short as it made me look older and heavier) i now have to wait several months for it to be long enough for shaping. Deseree is a hair genius. I am so critical when it comes to cuts and colors, but she just knocks it out of the park every single time. Today I went in not exactly sure what I wanted, and she looked at my hair, then showed me pictures of cuts and colors that I've long admired but never knew how to communicate they're what I wanted. I had a Groupon for a European dream facial. I must admit that I did indeed have some dreams during the facial since it was so relaxing and comfortable! I booked a 3:30pm appointment, but there was a cancellation so the day before the receptionist called to see if I would like to move my time earlier. I was definitely happy to accommodate. I arrived at 2pm, but the previous client was taking a little longer so I actually started about 2:20pm. The receptionist kept me updated and offered some wine or non alcoholic beverage. Once in the room I noticed how quiet and relaxing the atmosphere was. Once the service started I immediately felt comfortable. I'm not a usual fan of the warm wet air on your face, but I know it certainly helps with opening up the pores. After some cleaning, exfoliating, extractions, lotion and a few warm towels I was done! About 60 minutes. I enjoyed the facial and the atmosphere, but I wouldn't say it was five star amazing or the most perfect facial. I did enjoy the shoulder massages and the cosmetologist's techniques. I think if the outside was a bit less of a hustle and bustle with the haircuts I might have enjoyed the overall experience more. read more

Loved my hair bead extensions the first 3 times but once more extensions were added, the 4th time, there was a vast difference in the quality of hair, color, and durability. The added extensions were coarse, a different color that didn't match my hair, and fell out daily. I'm not sure what changed but have decided to go elsewhere since I was consistent with caring for them as I had been when I was pleased. Desiree is not ethical and claims she works with clients that have hair loss....go anywhere else...she doesn't know how, she uses inferior products/adhesives and because she used a bad product, not only did I have an allergic reaction with a horrible smell, all of my hair from the middle of my head to the top, fell out. I had an appointment for last Friday and she had someone call my to demand a $50 deposit. I refused....have had my hair done all over the USA and some of Europe but have never been asked for a deposit. Then surprisingly she had the same person call me to tell me she wasn't going to be able to do my hair...i asked the caller if this was because I didn't pay the deposit and she said no. I then called around and found someone and surprisingly she had gotten another client from Desiree who had the same issue. Needed a quick appointment same day, and they got me in. Wait was a little long but the stylist (who was awesome) apologized. I found this salon through Groupon & was immediately impressed with how my stylist Brittany dry-cut my hair before washing it. I was SO happy with the cut! I told her then that I was going to let my natural color grow out (red to gray). She suggested my next visit be for highlights to ease with color transition. I agreed & went in yesterday. I held my breath when Brittany said my highlights would be Ash Blonde. I have never had blonde hair. Well let me tell you, she did an awesome job blending my auburn & my natural gray. Great experience today with Janet. She was so sweet & did an amazing & beautiful job on my mani-pedi. I am now relaxing in an automatic recliner, reclined back all the way, in my own little space while I wait for my toes to dry. I received a greeting as soon as I walked in the door & very friendly staff. This salon is beautifully decorated and also very clean & sanitized. Not impressed. Actually very disappointed with my haircut. I asked for very subtle highlights and a very subtle long bob with a little bit of layers to give it some style. Key word being subtle. I think I emphasized it enough prior to the hair cut. I ended up with very streaky looking highlights that make me look like a zebra and a very uneven/ choppy haircut. The stylist did dry cut my hair so that should have been my first red flag. I will not be returning and don't recommend any one go to this salon. Not to mention this cost over $300 read more

I received a Brazilian treatment here, and it amazing. My hair is so much stronger and healthier. I have had a Brazilian treatment at other locations and it did no last more than a few weeks. I will definitely return to Benjamin to obtain another Brazilian treatment as I feel they are using approved product and know how to properly apply the application. Part of me hates that's I have to write a negative review for this salon because some of the ladies who work there are so sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them when I went, but my experience with having my hair done there was just THAT bad. I was going to this salon because one of the stylists, Desiree, was the only stylist in San Antonio who was certified to do what I needed done to my hair. The specific type of hair service does not have anything to do with my review of the salon, so I won't go into detail on that. I will say that the product is high maintenance, which required me to go in every month for upkeep. I have had thin hair my entire life and have received advice from many stylists over the years on what type of products to use, what styles and colors would complement my hair, etc. The tips that Desiree gave me completely contradicted everything I have learned from the other stylists as well as what I have learned through personal experience. Unfortunately, though I doubted her judgement most of the time, I was stuck going to her because she was the only person in San Antonio certified to maintain my hair product. I came in for one of my appointments and she was running behind; I waited in the lobby for an hour and a half before I was finally able to see her. My appointment takes an hour and a half, so I was there for a total of three hours. In my head, the hour and a half I was waiting in the lobby for her should have counted for something and I should not have been charged full price for my appointment. It came time to ring me up and she charged $150 for the hour and a half, her standard rate. I asked for a discount for the wait, as I was actually shocked that after waiting for an hour and a half I was still being charged full price; not to mention she makes $200 per month off of me already! The discount she gave me: $10 off. As much as I loved the hair product I was using, I lacked any respect for the service I was getting. I really appreciate stylists who point me in the right direction and I feel that is an important part of the overall experience when working with a stylist. I was consistently pointed in the wrong direction. The last experience I had was the final straw and I decided to have the product removed from my hair. I called every reputable salon in San Antonio to see if they could remove it rather than having to go back to Desiree; no luck. On my last appointment I had her remove the product and cut my hair. I ended up at home crying because the cut looked terrible! And, my next review will be the amazing stylist who saved my hair! read more

I had a 5 star review a few months ago back around end of November or early December because I had bought a Groupon for hair and color for a good price. I went and I saw Janet, I think that's her name. She was the one with braces. Well she matched the color I wanted and gave me an amazing hair cut and I felt beautiful. Now February 2016, I had one more groupon but this time it was for a basic hair cut only. Booking it over the phone was miserable because the girl, I think her name is Soledad, told me that I couldn't use more than one groupon at this place, but I read all the terms and conditions of it online before I purchased it and called months ago to confirm if it was fine. Well she still argued with me over the phone explaining how she could not book my appointment because they weren't going to accept my groupon so I told her to make the appointment, ask the manager, and if not, then I will get a refund from groupon...so she booked it finally without issue. My appointment was with Janet again so I was excited. I just wanted a trim and so as she was looking through my hair she asked "who cut your hair last time? It looks like they used a razor." 1st of all, she was the only one there at the salon, couldn't she have seen that I had been there before and 2 she was criticizing her own work and telling me how she needed to "fix" areas. All of that just made my hair experience drop down. I'm not from San Antonio so it's been a struggle finding a go to place for hair and now I feel like I'm back at square one. The one thing I do like about this salon is how they have the hair washing stations. It is perfectly set to where you don't feel like your head is dangling backwards and uncomfortable as they wash it. You put your head back and it literally cradles your head without strain. I have 1 more groupon left and it's for a facial, I'm kinda scared. Update: I had my facial scheduled in February but then as it got closer it was rescheduled to March...then April...then June. I ended up cancelling my appointment because who knows when I'll be seen. Soledad said it was because only 1 girl does facials and they over sold them so she's too booked. read more

I recently got my haircut and colored at Benjamin. I am not from the area, and I had reviewed Yelp as well as Groupon and found myself here. I bought the more expensive Groupon which included a cut, style, and 10 foil highlight. I mentioned this to my stylist, and I also said that I would like to upgrade. I was assuming I would get the value of my services ($150) as the Groupon mentioned; however, in checking out I got the value of what I paid ($59). The service was fine. Because of my previous color, we had to do a few extra thing which continued to increase the value of my service. My hair turned out great and was very similar to what I wanted in both cut and color. I have been getting my hair colored and highlighted since I was 16 years old (I'm 27 now) and I have got to say that this salon is one of my favorite. I had super long hair and wanted a new "edgy yet professional"...came here for a cut and highlights. Ask for Brittany to cut your hair, she used a technique with her scissors that made it jagged in the ends for that "edgy" look...it's absolutely stunning. I love my short hair! Ask for Desiree (sp.?) to do your color...I told her I wanted that 3-dimensional golden brown/balayage-esque color like Jessica alba. I swear it came out better than the picture I showed her. If I can give her more than 5 stars, I would. She even went out of her way of giving me tips where I can find the skin care products I need at most reasonable prices. Desperately needed a haircut today and this salon was able to squeeze me in. Thank goodness! My luscious locks weren't looking so luscious. The receptionist was so incredibly friendly! Instead of just pointing to the back when I asked for the ladies room, she showed me there. Then, while waiting for my appointment, she offered me water; I don't know how she knew that I was quite parched. She's so very lovely. I wish that I could remember her name. Went in for a partial highlight, the stylist mentioned something about a partial color. I reminded her that it was a highlight. She came back and started slopping on color before I could say anything. She insisted I needed a color touch up and not a highlight, and that next time I would need both. To make things worse, the color did not even match my highlights or my regular hair color which was my natural hair color and always has been. On top of that, I think I was charged for the highlight. Went in today (Saturday, March 30, 2019) as a walk in so get a consultation and opinion on my hair that had just been done at a different salon on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Unfortunately after the other salon did my hair, they left it very choppy with highlights and looking very streaky and unnatural. I had been on the search for a salon to fix the issue (was not going to go back to the original salon because it was my second time giving them a shot) but was having trouble finding one that would take walk-ins or have appointments available. Fortunately I googled "salon open Sunday's" because I was going to give up looking for today but I Benjamin's popped up! I looked at their pictures and reviews and it gave me hope that they could help and quickly with them also being open on Sunday's. I went in around 4:15 and Soledad greeted me at the front. I let her know that I didn't have an appointment and what my issue was. She asked if I would like to talk to a stylist and I agreed. A few minutes later Heidi greeted me and took me to her chair to listen to my concern and look at my hair. I may have been a bit frustrated and frazzled but I am so happy she understood what my main concern was. She let me know that she would be able to help and asked if I could come back Tuesday to get it done. I asked if there was any way to get me in on Sunday because I didn't want to go to work with the mess I had. She asked me to give her a minute, she went to look at her schedule and to my surprised asked if I could wait 30 mins so she could take her next appointment and she could make it happen the same day!!!! I was SO happy and relieved!!!! She explained to me exactly what she was going to do and it gave me so much relief. 30 mins later, I was in her chair and she was going to work! An hour and a half later and my mess was SO much better. I cannot thank Heidi enough for taking me in the same day, listening to my concerns and making me feel so much better.
