While I don't live terribly close to their stores and their hours are not most convenient, I do shop here (Glen Mills) because shoe quality is good. What I don't like, however, is being lectured by a manager about my having exceeded their shoe return policy by 2 days. I get it...there is a 30 day policy, but the store closed earlier than published when we tried to make the return last week and we work on weekdays. She finally reluctantly took the return and issued a refund but told my husband she would be making a "notation" in my "file" about it. Frankly, I would have accepted a store credit, and she would have saved me as a customer. Instead, her bad attitude will drive me away. I can spend $170 on sneakers/$160 on sandals elsewhere. read more

Though I love the bag and would give it 4 stars (one minor issue with the placement of the elastic to hold your keys), I'm rating the store with 1 star. The bag was priced at $99. I thought that was reasonable until I went both on Baggallini's website as well as Amazon and found that the bag is actually priced at $80. So Benjamin Lovell marked it up buy $19. Had some shoes shipped to me from across the country and they came in super quick! Very helpful staff all around.

I spent over $300 with Noah... BIG mistake. One pair were ordered. Apparently he made incorrect notes and didn't attach a phone number (even after providing ALL my info). In the last month I've called and dealt with three different people including a male "manager" ALL of whom each gave me a different excuse (back order, wrong color shipped, etc) Here I am a month later with no shoes, no one contacting me and nothing shipped so TRYING to get a refund. The guy prentending to be a manager did NOT know what he was doing. (Although his varying excuses were entertaining) SPEND AT YOUR OWN RISK. Zero customer service or procedure here. My wife hates shoe shopping...not for herself mind you (she is a woman), but with me. I envy people who can order shoes online or just walk in to a store and grab and go. I am not one of these people. I have somewhat small feet for my height (6'4"), slightly wider than normal with high arches. I can't shop by price...only comfort. Not my first choice for a shoe-shopping extravaganza but these suckers sure are comfy. My mother forced me through the doors of Benjamin Lovell to look for replacements for my flimsy Old Navy flip flops. "You have herniated discs. Are you crazy walking around in those things?" Yes, Mom, apparently. These kicks are very pricey but, so far, worth every penny. The salespeople were aloof but I gained their attention once I proved to be serious about a purchase. Merrell, Mephisto, Tsubo, Donald Pliner, select Michael Kors & UGG... if those brands interest you then this store is for you. If you're looking for a new pair of stilettos, go somewhere else (sigh). This shop carries moderate to high end brands that are well designed and comfortable. I've had great success here with quality leather boots. Unlike most shoe shops in the city, the men's section is equally as large as the women's. The staff are well informed, friendly and helpful. There are no sales pitches here, and I never feel pressured to buy. I do wish the stores were more coordinated - I've sometimes traveled between all three stores (South St., Manayunk & Rittenhouse) to find my desired shoe in the right size. I wish they'd bring back United Nude shoes & other more trendy, younger brands for the 20-something crowd, but I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of their Fall boots & shoes. read more

I purchased a pair of shoes from BL's Rittenhouse location but in a size that only another one of their stores had and was guaranteed that the shoes would be ready for pickup the next day at the Rittenhouse location. The shoes were meant for a family member leaving the country in another day. Despite the salesman guarantee the shoes would be ready--they were not. If you are looking for comfort shoes, the Rittenhouse location of BL has the largest selection I have found in Philadelphia. My feet are a bitch to fit and the sales woman here who has waited on me twice was beyond patient. She really understood the quirks of my foot. I'd pick up a pair of shoes ask to see them and she'd tell me to not bother because it would never work on my shaped foot. Thank you for saving me the time and trouble of trying on 20 shoes that don't work! I think her name is Erica. I'm sure other sales people there are great, but she was just amazing. I just bought a pair of Clarks desert boots here, and the service couldn't have been nicer! The store was quite full, but it was no problem at all to find a salesperson to help me find the shoes. I wear a larger shoe size than they usually carry (I'm a women's 12), but my saleswoman brought me the men's version in the right size and we were good to go! Everyone was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. Side note: I was with two friends looking for clogs, and they both got lots of attention and advice. This is a great place to look for comfort shoes (Dansko, Softi, Clarks) because there's a pretty wide selection of shoes to try out. And no one pressured us us to buy anything - I walked out with a pair of shoes but my friends didn't, and we were all equally happy. It's true that the south street location has a bigger style selection, but it's also actually packed into a smaller square footage. Perhaps the Rittenhouse store is more spread out to meet the expectations of the tony rittenhouse square shopper? The advantage of the SS store is that it contains the motherlode sale section in the back, separated by size. Good bi-annual sales, names include Merrell, Tsubo, Rachel's trying to think of Naot, space is split equally between guys/girls styles. Both stores are wheelchair accessible although the SS store definitely has a step up to the sale section. read more

I had a pair of leather boots repaired about 2 months ago. The sole was completely ruined, I could literally see the screws into the boot. There was a hidden heel within the sole that had to be replaced as well. I was honestly scared to see the price/if there was a fixable price. They costed me $60 and look brand new. They added a hikers sole that added maybe an inch but so worth it. They are a little more narrow which I could probably go back about. Oh and the customer service is amazing. I cannot comment on selection because I am not a shoe collector, but they always have what I need whether it be shoes for work or play. I have hard to fit feet that are really wide. The staff knows their stuff so when I tell them I have wide, flat feet (I must be part duck) and what I am looking for - they bring a selection to me that fits the criteria. One saleswoman even altered a sandal buckle hole for me on the spot so my MaryJane Danskos would be more comfortable. Having never been to the South Street location, I'm told that their location is twice of this satelite store. This is really a walk-in closet, with a small but thorough selection of mens and womens dress shoes. Recently, I needed to get some dress shoes... and the extremely helpful woman working here noticed that I don't believe in slim-cut casual leather sneakers (Prada/Diesel). After considering some other options, but not finding the absolute, she said, "Honestly, you're a sneaker guy. I could sell you a 100 or 200 dollar pair of dress shoes, but just wear your freshest, flyest sneaks, and you'll be right at home." Recently I was purchasing shoes in your store in Glenn Mills. I bought 2 pairs of shoes that day. I was told by you sales assistant that if I had any problems, not to hesitate to bring them back. One of the pair of shoes I purchased were Pikolinos. After wearing them I found that they hurt my feet . Now she never did measure my feet nor did I ask her. See this is probably the 6th pair of shoes I had purchased from this stoe and never had any problems. I went back to return the shoes after about 4 weeks and when I did I explained to her what the problem was and she would not take them back. These shoes cost 165.00. Her comment to me was "these shoes have been worm". I said yes they have been. I've worn them about 4 times and they hurt my feet. How else would I be able to determine they hurt my feet if I didn't where them. Her comment was I should have been wearing them on the carpet. I replied to her that she was the one to tell me if I had a problem not to hesitate bring them back. Never did she say but you can only wear them on the carpet. Does anyone else see that this is ridiculous? When I left the store I told her she should not tell people they can return merchandise when they can't . Then I said SHAME ON YOU and walked out. I've spent close to 1500.00 in this store and I will tell you that I will never step foot in there again. read more

I am committed to supporting local, small businesses when possible. I spotted a pair of shoes in BL after making a quick grocery stop next door one night and finally got back to try them on. I was ready to purchase some shoes and replenish my supply. When I got to the store a woman trying on Danskos was being helped by two sales people (one male, clearly the direct and another woman leaning on the counter giving advice). While I picked up and looked at shoes no one asked if I needed help. I figured that was their style, so I gave the que of picking up a shoe. No offer. I then had to make direct eye contact and ask for the shoe in a size. As I continued to look around I noticed the other sales ppl offered potential customers water and coffee while they wait. This did not happen with me. Fast forward to trying on the shoe which didnt work. The saleswoman was helpful in bringing a few sizes. None worked.I explained what I was looking for and an unethusiastic suggestion was made. She looked at the shoes on the floor to see if my size was there.When the shoe was too small there was no offer to get me a larger size. I could tell she was not into this anymore so I left. I have experienced the olde city store enough to know this low energy is atypical. Too bad. I was ready to spend. Guess I didnt look the part of a Rittenhouse shopper. read more

I love this store. I live near the Rittenhouse Square location, so I show up there most frequently. As someone who walks A LOT, and has some foot problems, I've had a lot of luck here. The shoes are not in any way inexpensive, but they are good shoes that last and are comfortable. And they have a nice selection of a lot of brands. Whenever I have really wanted a speicific pair and they didn't have them in my size, they have always been kind enough to check with their other stores and if they can find them, bring them to this location for me to try, with no pressure to then buy them. Their sales are especially good, though you have to get there at the beginning or most sizes have slim pickings. I used to work near the South Street location, and enjoyed going there as well - their Sale Room was always so much fun to check out. Finally, the staff at the Rittenhouse store are fabulous. They continue to be nice to me, even when I've asked to try on numerous shoes and then bought nothing! Even if they have my photo with a circle and red line through in the staff area, everyone there has always treated me nothing but well. read more

These shoes are very high quality. This winter I bought a second pair of waterproof low boots, which are hard to find. The first pair, also from the same store, are still great, and the second pair is more stylish. I have been wearing them almost every day. The sales woman was extremely helpful to me, finding styles and sizes and even put the shoes on my feet. She was not pushy and she listened to what I liked and didn't like. She also recommended a very cute and very comfortable pair of flats, much more $ than I am used to spending but I could not resist. She said the store accepts returns up to 2 weeks. Omar is my "Shoe Guy". Much like a drug dealer, he knows what I like, what I'm going to like - hell, he knows my voice on the phone. Every employee who works here makes it a point to achieve familiarity with their regular customers, most of the time calling them by name and traeting them with the comfort of a family. I have Osteoporosis, and when I realized that my choices in footwear would greatly affect not only my alignment but my skeletal frame pain level at the end of a day on my feet, I started to pay attention to how what was on my feet could ameliorate or exacerbate these factors. So I turned my focus to certain brands, all of which are in the spotlight at Ben Lovell. The difference between this stores' stock and that of a hospital uniform shop? Style. The styles here masque all manner of "ughyuck" in a comfort shoe. Dansko, Born, Clarks, Hunter, Reiker - They are all such attractive shoes and boots I want to do some kind of a clown dance when I try them on and they feel like clouds. One mustn't suffer in choosing style or comfort. I have it all. Now, granted, the shoes are high premium and cost the normal high price of any quality brand. But they have incredible sales at the end of every season, and each pair of shoes from here is an investment that WILL last. It WILL make you happy to wear a great pair of shoes, and if you AREn't happy in a week, you CAN bring them back and talkk to them. Omar has taken care of me both in ordering things they don't have (under no obligation to buy) and in a great pair of shoes that cut my heels after 3 wears. One cannot expect such torture in the fitting process, and at $115 a pair, you should have the luxury of living in peace with said purchase. They get this. And knowing that you, as a customer, are taken care of so wholly, so respectfully, has made me not only a regular, but a loyal customer to boot (pardon pun. yes, done on purpose). Once Omar knocked off 15% on a pair of Reiker boots for me - just because. I said "YEAH - Done and done." Adn they still feel like little clouds on my feet. And my high heeled Danskos that nobody knows are Dansko because they are Red faux-snakeprint? They are still earning me compliments. i give this second BLS store four stars only because i have been to the south street location as well, so i know what their selection is really like. but it is nice having a BLS closer to home, because I like their shoe selection. It isnt INSANE or anything, but i usally want about 20 pairs of shoes when i walk in there, so the selection works for me.They carry brands from campers to that Israeli sandal brand whose name i cant remember but starts with an N. Anyhow, they can vary from super fancy to very casual, and i usually love most of what they have. Prices are steep but for good shoes you have to fork over some dough, so whatever. Staff are friendly, attentive, and a little sassy which is always awesome. They know their stuff and are always willing to give you their opinion. read more
