We've used Benjamin for a handful of projects. We've learned they're fine for opening clogged drains and that's about it. They installed a toilet that leaked and ruined our bathroom floor. They also gave us a complete runaround on installation of sump pump. "We can do it! We can't do it now because we have to order parts. We got the wrong parts." I contacted Benjamin Plumbing to remove a pedestal sink and install a vanity in a powder room. Ken, the plumber came, and it was obvious he did not want to be there. He barely spoke a word. He removed the pedestal sink with such force, and without removing the caulking or grout, that he ripped up the drywall and broke several of the floor tiles. He installed the vanity and left without a word. I checked the work and found it leaking from the drain. I called immediately and he turned around and when I told him the problem he said "I know". When he left the second time I closed the drawer only to find out it hit the drain and the pipe leaked again. I called Benjamin for a call-back and they returned a week later. In the meantime, they charged an old credit card they had on file for me without notifying me of the charge in advance. After the call-back, I got another charge for $195.15, when I asked Tammy at Benjamin Plumbing she and Jill told me that it was for another service. Why the same sink with the same leaking is a different service I don't know. She later claimed, falsely I will add, that the plumber said it was the wrong vanity. Now we have a vanity and sink that don't work, and they have charged my credit card, $501.90 for the first visit and $195.15 for the call-back. Don't use Benjamin Plumbing. They do not do remodeling as stated in their website, and they do not stand behind their work. read more

When you need to get your plumbing on, who ya' gonna' call? Benjamin Plumbing! These guys have always been right on time, as promised and do good work which they stand behind at a fair price. In the last few years, they have replaced our 50-year-old plus water softener, water heater and are our plumbers on a long needed bathroom remodel which includes a wall-mounted toilet. So I suspect they can handle just about any job. They send over hard-working, courteous and trustworthy gents who you feel good about letting into your home and leaving alone. They are a long-standing business and not fly by night. Similarly, they are long-standing and active NARI Madison chapter members which definitely means something. (NARI Members must abide a specific code of business ethics). I recall that they have also won many NARI awards and one of their owners was chapter president and has been recognized nationally for their work and work practices. To my way of thinking, their professional pride keeps them doing good work, along with their good reputation to maintain. The upshot is, when we need plumbing work, we simply call them and we're done with it and there's no more worries on our part. I know their work will be good and they will stand behind it and prices will be fair. read more

It's taken me a long time to write this review because of how frustrating my experience was with Benjamin Plumping. I worked Billy from Benjamin Plumbing to replace a shell bathtub with a soaking tub and panels. Everything would be custom. First, Billy came out with some color samples of the paneling. I chose a solid white color - so far so good. When the paneling was delivered, it was a white mottled with grey and black. I told him there had been a mistake, and that I had ordered the solid white. He tried to pressure me into keeping the tile by giving me a discount on it; I had to insist on the solid white before he agreed to have the paneling re-made. Then the bathtub was delivered and installed by plumbers. The installation itself went ok, but in the process the walls were a little damaged - I get it, the bathtub is heavy and awkward and being installed into a small space. Except they didn't repair the damage. I had to point out the damage to Billy and ask that it be repaired. Then people came to install cement board. They did a poor job and the board was curved past the plane of the wall. Again, I had to point out the problem to Billy before he agreed to have them come back and re-install it. Which they did. And the same problem happened! When I pointed it out to Billy he said he thought it was within tolerance. Ok... So then people came to install the paneling. And they couldn't because the cement board was curved! They reinstalled it themselves (3rd time here) and then installed the paneling. The paneling extended beyond the original paneling of the tub, so trim on one that side of a wall to the corner had to be removed - Ok, no problem. But they didn't finish the trim on the other side of the corner, which was now awkwardly sticking out because it didn't have a corner piece on the other side to match. Ok, no problem, but again I had to point this out to Billy. So other people came to finish the trim. They made an unprofessional looking cut and in the process somehow cracked the paint on my wall. Ok, fine - but again I had to point this out to Billy and ask that it be repaired. It goes on like this. People came to fix the holes in the walls. And Billy himself came to fix the trim, but it again didn't look finished; it looked like an electric saw had been used to make more cuts, blackening the wood, and nicking the tile underneath. When I told Billy about the blackened wood and nicked tile, he denied it. I've since had multiple professionals look at the trim as part of an estimate for repairing trim everywhere in my condo in preparation for sale, and they all agreed they couldn't believe that was the finished state. At this point, I was so done. A week long job turned into many weeks. Jobs had to be redone multiple times. And at the end I was called a liar. I didn't want to have anyone else associated Billy or Benjamin Plumbing back. I paid the invoice and moved on. read more

Had what I thought was going to be a costly repair, that I was putting off for awhile. Ended up with another issue (unrelated) and needed to call a plumber. Benjamin was able to come out that day and fix both problems in under an hour. Ken who was the service technician was great. We've been using Benjamin Plumbing over the years. They are a little pricey - no doubt - but we've *never* had to have them come back and re-work or "fix" something they worked on. They do it right, and do it the first time. Two water heaters, three dishwashers, pipe re-routing and shortening, toilet bowl replacements, three homes later, and a kitchen remodel. Their plumbers are kind, knowledgeable, and clean. I'm a little sad to add this update, especially after being a loyal client for over 21 years. Over the last year or so it's been difficult to impossible to get a response when I have called for service. I have needed to use a new plumber for most all of my plumbing needs for the last year at our properties. 2 weeks ago I called to give Benjamin Plumbing a project. I called 3 times and was told Chris would call back for scheduling. I never did get that call back and ended up using my other plumber. When you can get service, I would say they are fine. But just not as there as they used to be. I would have understood if this was during the big freeze ... but this was before all that chaos. read more

He's been to the house before for smaller plumbing needs but his troubleshooting expertise and no-nonsense approach to doing top-notch work was worth taking the time to let his Manager know he's a gem. After I posted my last review, I was contacted by Benjamin Plumbing to apologize for the lack of communication. The previous person who did not follow through with me was no longer working for them, and he had left them no notes or photos, so Jay came out to take another look. He was very polite and respectful and gave me hope that my project could be completed in a timely manner and with plenty of communication. His team of workers came out the following week and installed the new water hookup for my laundry room and a new washtub. My new washer and dryer arrived yesterday and everything works great. Had the account manager out 8 days ago, was told at the end of the meeting I would get an estimate the next day. 3 voicemails and 2 emails later nothing. Make sure you get a written itemized estimate before you write your first check to Benjamin Plumbing. Also, get a resolution sheet when the work is completed. I had some simple work done. There was no resolution sheet and I continued to be charged for work that I had already paid for. My FICO score is 810 (excellent) so I am not used to having difficulty paying my bills. read more

Fraudulent Charges I purchased a water heater, placed it next to the old one and was quoted $250 to simply disconnect the old one and hook up the new one. I took off work to be there for the install--they cancelled on me and re-scheduled for a day I couldn't be there. They installed the new one and forced my wife to pay $1000 before they left... In that $1000 charge was 40 feet of PVC (about 8 feet were used). They charged an additional 1hr of labor beyond the time they were there. They marked up parts used by 200% of the cost at the hardware store. They charged "delivery" for a water heater I had on site. They also charged $200 for a flexible gas pipe when they could have use a standard pipe for a fraction of the cost. When I contacted management they said they would knock about $50 off the price. I have used Benjamin Plumbing in the past but will no longer do so due to their crooked billing practices. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I called Benjamin Plumbing for a quote to get an estimate for a remodeling project. After a few weeks I get a bill for $250 for "work performed" even though the plumber that came didn't do anything. He looked at the space and told us he was going to send us an estimate. For the past 11 months, every month I get a bill from Benjamin threatening to send me to collections if I don't pay the bill. I called 9 times and spoke to several people in Accounts Receivable, Administration and Service Department. Every time they tell they'll take care of and every month the same bill. The quality of service is terrible, there are better plumbing companies out there. read more

I had plumbing problem....so, I called a plumber! They arrived timely and diagnosed the situation quickly. I needed a part ordered and the plan was to have it shipped and they would give a call to schedule a re-visit. A week goes by and I called get the update. Did it arrive? Yep, and they were sending a guy out to install. He installs it the next day and all is well. A week later, I get a bill for $350+! The part was $50 and the plumber was in my house for less than 30 mins, but I get billed for 2.5 hours labor. Whatever, it's fixed, although I feel robbed on the cost. They must charge drive time? First, grossly overpriced. A simple water heater replacement 50 gal was $1700. Come on. This was not a new install, but take the old one out, put in a new one. No stairs, no elevators, ground floor residential. Secondly, for 3 months I have been trying to get my paperwork so I can claim my tax credit. That apparently is too difficult for them. Simply a very poorly run and overpriced operation, the kind that gives plumbers a bad name. Go elsewhere folks! read more

Very disappointed with our experience. Came to fix a clogged toilet. "Fixed" the clog in five minutes and we paid the hefty fee - $100+. Two days later, toilet was clogged again after routine use, leading us to believe that the initial "fix" hadn't really done the trick. Asked for them to come back, but asked for a reduced fee, given the timing. Much hesitation on their part of reduce the fee. After a 15 minute service call, we were sent another very high bill - $160+. No indication of any fee reduction. Clog was related to the initial issues, but no acknowledgement from the company that it could have been fixed the first time if the technician would have slowed down and fully investigated the issue. After another attempt to get the bill decreased, I was told they'd "think about it" and today just received a new bill in the mail for the original amount. read more

I have received quality service from them over the years, but not this time. We called them to replace two washer faucets, and to swap out our sink faucet for a different style. We wanted a unit with a sprayer, but do not have an available hole for the sprayer in the sink. We told them the sink was enameled cast iron, and the rep said they could drill a hole for the sprayer. When the plumber came, we were told it was not possible to drill a hole in the sink even though they said they could. So we got nonew sink faucet, and 20 minutes of work for our $99 minimum labor charge. Also, in the process of doing the work, the plumber smashed a cast iron drain cover in the basement, heaven knows how. He did not say a word about it, and when we complained to the company, they told us he was not aware he had done it. Instead of saying that they would send him round right away to replace the drain cover he had smashed, the rep casually told me that these were very cheap easy to get items so we could replace it ourselves! The only thing more amazing than her actually having the nerve to say that was that I did not immediately call her out on this. Put it down to a combination of utter amazement and thinking I was dealing with a reputable company. No more I guess!! read more
