The best bagels, hands down! The first time I came here, I ended up ordering another bagel and cream cheese to go, to eat when I got home

Best bagels by far in southern Vermont. Excellent variety of cream cheese as well. Can't recommend Bennington Bagel Company highly enough.

In Bennington randomly for a doctor's appointment with my son. Reached for Yelp to guide us for a…read morebrunch-time sandwich - this led us here. Outside looked like a furniture/nicknack store. Typical "I love VT" t shirts and stuffies in the window, $400 syrup, and artsy cards and candles etc. Making our way to the back was a small nook of seats and tables and a breakfast/sandwich/bagel menu. To say we were skeptical was an understatement. My son ordered a Southwestern steak and egg sandwich on a rainbow bagel. I had a dill pickle chicken salad sandwich on an everything bagel. Add in a coffee, a hot chocolate, two cans of Diet Coke (and a small cheesecake round for my son) and we were all set. Menu was way more reasonably priced than we expected. Average bagel sandwich (which they fill amply) was roughly $10. All of the fillings were very good. Well seasoned. Creative. Again, exceeded our initial expectations. Even the bagels were surprisingly good. Please note I grew up in NJ so a bagel is essentially unattainable to me north of the Tappanzee Bridge. I was expecting "airport quality," however, it was not half bad. Chewy and tasty for the area. Service left me with two very distinct feelings. 1) the people were AWESOME. Friendly, attentive, seemingly happy to be at work (a rarity). But... 2) there were 6 total customers in the store (some simply reading books) and yet it took 16 minutes for our coffee and hot chocolate and roughly 30 for the sandwiches. Was so weird to experience the quiet of the store - yet the ticket time and wait of a bustling morning at a deli. Oh well. Was a pleasant place to be. Will likely find a different place next week following our upcoming appointment. But was not mad at the experience.

Counter service inside with takeout and deliver options. Visiting Bennington for the first time. While this isn't your standard NY style, I really enjoyed the crispy and airy crust. Sauce is a straightforward, basic tomato sauce, but toppings are of good quality and tasty. What we ordered: - small Greek salad w/ creamy Greek dressing: (4) Quite tasty. The feta made the salad. I wish the olives were pitted. I didn't realize they weren't until I bit into one. Oops. - 10" cheese: (4) pretty simple pizza. The misses liked it and she is a fan of simple cheese pizzas. - 10" the whole shebang (4.25): I am a fan of the crust and the toppings were perfect. Could have split this, but me and the misses like different pizzas. Some seating inside and a lot of outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. Ambiance gave us the pizza parlor vibe.

Our go-to pizza place in Bennington…read more... Huge fan of the calzones here - buffalo chicken is phenomenal, also love their sausage and pepperoni calzone! The pizza and wings are also great, and the bagels make for a nice breakfast. Sitting outside on the porch there is beautiful. Was happy to see that the inside seating was available again last year, too! Would love to be able to enjoy a nice cold beer while waiting for food, but they don't serve alcohol. The food is good enough, however, that we will sit at the pizza place (whose food is not as good...) across the street and have a beer while waiting for food from Benner's if we haven't ordered ahead. The wait times can be long (maybe an hour) on busy nights, like Friday, for pick-ups; but most places are (it's not fast food...). They are always pretty accurate with timing estimates when we call and order so we plan accordingly. I've rarely had to wait beyond the amount of time indicated when going to pick up the food. I've never had an issue with the food or how it was cooked (except when I've ordered a half-only-cheese, half-six-different-toppings pizza - there is literally no way to make sure that is cooked evenly, lesson learned). Typically have had good experiences with the staff. There have been a few interactions that were a little off-putting, but nothing that would deter me from coming back. I've seen myself on a bad day at work - it happens.

What else is on the menu besides Bagels?…read more I saw a lot of Jewish neighborhood items like bialys, smoked salmon, egg creams. whitefish salad, baked salmon salad, corned beef, matzoh ball soup, pastrami, chopped chicken liver, rugelach, and brisket among the seemingly hundreds of other choices. Simply put, Great Barrington Bagel is one fantastic place of fantastic choices. Let's start with their bagels, I mean after all, that's the namesake of the place. They make them the traditional NYC way - boiled and then baked in a 500-degree oven for a dense crust and chewy interior. How many kinds of bagels do they make? How about 21, plus spinoff types like bialys and flagels (flat crusty bagels). Oh, and do you want cream cheese on top of that particular bagel you had to agonizingly choose among? Well, be prepared for another tough choice, because GBBC has 17 flavors of cream cheeses. I ordered a cup of Chicken Noodle Soup with Matzoh Ball ($4.75) and a BLT on a jalapeno bagel ($8.50). Their indoor tables are still not available, but there were maybe six big picnic tables with benches outside. Everything was occupied when we walked outside with our food, including one table where an unsmiling matronly type nursing a cup of Dunkin Donuts informed us in no uncertain terms that she was holding that table for her friends' arrival, and she'd rather not share her precious table with us. Anyway, we eventually found a table and enjoyed our lunch. My soup was great! Lots of big carrot chunks, delicious tender chicken chunks, and a very good matzoh ball, served with bagel chips. The BLT had quite a bit of perfectly cooked Hickory Smoked Bacon. I had my Jalapeno bagel toasted. It was served with a sour pickle spear and was a real good combination of tastes and textures. My only quibble was the Jalapeno Bagel itself, it just wasn't very "jalapeno-y" to me. But that was just a teeny tiny blip on the day's radar. Well, that and the guardian of the bench, who was still sitting there by herself as we cleaned up our trash and left. As I was leaving, I looked her in the eyes and said, "Hope you enjoy your lunch". Sensing none of my sarcasm, she smiled and said thanks.

Great flavor and great texture; and, I appreciate that they use organic ingredients. I actually wouldn't eat there if they didn't. The bagels are honestly amazing. They are the only bagels I will eat because they are organic sourdough (it's the only non-gf I'll eat). They are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, just how a bagel should be! Whenever I've ordered a bagel and cream cheese (which is more than a dozen times), they've always been very generous with the cream cheese, which I appreciate! They've also got more than just bread. They sell some local gifts and things: flowers, crocheted items, little crafts, chocolates, etc. Their cookies are soooooooo delicious. We always get at least one to enjoy after we eat our bagels. :-) There is a small sandwich menu (no hot items though - like no hot egg sandwiches, just egg salad). They also serve hot coffee! One tip: Go early. They often sell out of bagels and treats, especially on the weekends! It's just a really solid spot with really good food! Definitely worth checking out! We drive 25 minutes just to enjoy their bagels, bread, and treats!!
