I contacted Ben's Appliance about my leaking refrigerator and communicated with Elizabeth via text, photos, and several phone calls to diagnose the issue. I was given a tentative diagnosis and an estimated cost via text. When Ben came to do the repair, I was not home, but my mother was present. After the work was completed, my mother called to inform me of the total cost, which was double the estimate I was provided. I asked to speak with Ben to ask for clarification. As soon as I expressed my concern, Ben became highly agitated and began yelling, claiming the higher cost was due to taking everything apart. I had to ask him to stop shouting at me because I was simply trying to understand the charges, not to avoid payment. I also told him that I felt he should have discussed and explained what the problem was and the cost before the repair began, especially given the significant deviation from the estimate. When I told him what I was quoted, he said it was wrong and that he would "chastize" her later. After we hung up, he continued yelling at my mother in our home, then slammed the door after being paid. Once I reviewed the receipt, I noticed the reason the price was different was due to a "service fee". Not the additional labor cost to take everything apart, as Ben mentioned. Elizabeth was actually in the ballpark with the cost for the "repair". She just failed to mention the fee for them to come out. I called Elizabeth to provide feedback and to ask why this fee wasn't disclosed upfront. She said it wasn't mentioned because I "never asked." I guess I wasn't specific enough when I asked how much it would cost for them to come out and fix it. She then put me on speaker, and Ben again became defensive, yelling, and calling me a clown before abruptly ending the call. I understand that estimates can change, but fixed fees should be disclosed and discussed upfront. Treating a PAYING customer disrespectfully when requesting clarification is entirely unacceptable. He and wife Elizabeth work together as a team, she answers the phone, schedules and occasionally helps on the job when extra hands are needed. Terrible customer experience after sending a defective part. I ordered a replacement drawer control panel for my Kitchenaid refrigerator and it was delivered quickly. When I installed it, it did not work. Prior to ordering the part, I had a repairperson confirm that power was going to panel. After contacting Ben, he noted that this was the second time the factory had sent out a defective part and that he would contact the factory about the part I received. Since then, Ben has cut off all communication. He has not responded to any communications since August...it is now the end of November. I am now out nearly $300 for a part that never worked and have no recourse or way to get it replaced or refunded. If Ben would just respond with how we can resolve this, it would be a completely different review but if you have a return, my experience is that you're going to eat the cost, so think twice before purchasing from this store. read more

I got the part I ordered in good time, but I erred in the wire size. I wanted a larger gauge (8awg) wire with female spade. I told them, they wanted more info, I did that, and never heard back. I gave her the make and model of my washing machine and found out that since it was so old, they didn't make the parts necessary to fix it. When our refrigerator stopped cooling I was certain it might be time to get a new one, as it's 16 yrs. old. Bens office staff communicated quickly & reliably, asking questions to get an idea of what the issue could be before arrival. Scheduling was smooth & Ben was on time. Our antediluvian shop refrigerator/freezer stopped refrigerating and freezing. I asked for help via Yelp. Of the three repair services Yelp listed, only Ben and Elizabeth were interested in the job. Elizabeth was the communicator. She asked intelligent questions, explained the service fee, cautioned me that some parts for this model were unavailable. We set a date and time. Both Ben and Elizabeth showed up that morning. Fortunately for us, the problem was one Ben could and did fix (faulty relay). I had the pleasure of dealing with Ben's Appliance Service for an old refrigerator. Ben had my refrigerator running within an hour, however it was discovered later that there were other problems.
