First time trying Ben's Noodles, as I'm still searching for my local go to spot for Thai food. I ordered the baby egg rolls and chicken pad thai. The egg rolls were a fantastic, a perfect starter. The pad thai was amazing. Large portion and made exactly how I like it. With chicken and tofu, no peanuts and extra lime. Most places can't seem to follow my order but Ben's did it perfectly. Our last meal before leaving Chicago and it was delicious. We needed to get it to go as time was limited and we needed to hurry it up. We ordered online and picked up our food 1/2 hour later. I ordered the spicy beef and vegetables and it was delicious. My wife ordered the shrimp fried rice and my daughter the vegetable fried rice and we all came away satisfied. They have a good selection of Chinese and Thai with okay prices. Each time has been good. I've never eaten in here. The last time was as before, as takeout. It's a small place but it has a big menu. There's plenty of choices for many tastes, including plenty for both carnivores and vegetarians. Big portions at lunch. Last time I got the Pad Thai. It's $11 at lunch. This has bean sprouts, eggs, which I left off, green onions, peanuts, and thin rice noodles. It also comes with a protein choice. There's beef, chicken, and tofu. Basic but good. The wife and I have been ordering from here for years. Must recently, we ordered pad woonsen with tofu and chicken teriyaki. We also ordered the shrimp and vegetable egg rolls. All the food was good. Generally, I have enjoyed the vegetable and chicken dishes (have not tried beef entrees, but not the seafood. Other entrees we have tried include basil noodles, spicy entree and pad Thai. We just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to try out Ben's on a night when we just didn't have the energy to cook. We ordered the veggie potstickers, spring rolls, cucumber salad, pad see ew, and green curry. We did takeout and it was ready quickly. In general, the food was fine, nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the potstickers and cucumber salad most, but the pad see ew didn't do much for me. The spring rolls weren't what I was expecting--they weren't fried and were loosely wrapped in rice paper, so my partner ended up eating them. He enjoyed his curry but the ratio of curry to rice was very off with way more rice than curry to the point it seemed laughable. We will probably hit them up again in the future, particularly for their lunch deal, but I don't think we've found our new Thai go-to yet. read more

I'm a relatively regular customer of this clean, inexpensive, high value , and delicious small restaurant. One thing that stands out is their vegetable quality. Never over-cooked with a lot of variety. Bonus: they're customer service is stellar, always polite, fast, and friendly. It's a hidden gem with a loyal following. My boyfriend took me here for date night. Simple, small yet intimate. Its not your five star restaurant. It's a small gem where you can enjoy each other's company and conversation over good food. Yes I said good food. We ordered the orange chicken and the spicy basil noodles with chicken. Fye! This was the best and most fresh orange chicken Ive ever had. The noodles were delicious. Man I could shed a tear thinking about this spot... the green curry was always so good but my go to dish quickly became Lad Nar, extra broccoli with no protein. Also, the owners were always so wonderful and made each visit enjoyable. I loved eating here weekly and I can easily say that it's one of the most memorable spots in my old neighborhood. Tom yum goong. Basil rolls. Pananag curry chicken. Fried banana. I haven't had tom yum goong that I didn't like. I loved it at Ben's Noodles and Rice. The basil rolls were a switch from the usual mini egg rolls. Ground beef wrapped in basil leaves and then fried in a light pastry, yep, these were perfect. The panang curry had a thin base, but it was packed with flavour. Not wanting to do the usual Thai custard or mango with sticky rice, I ordered fried banana and green tea for my finale. Wow!!! I had their Beef Pad Thai, it was ok, the place is small and family owned. Their menu is not complicated or full of items at all. It's a nice little hidden place, very clean, atmosphere is quiet and cozy. Their Pad Thai was ok, I felt it needed a bit more flavor and limes to go with it, even when I ask for more limes, I got two more small wedges. Came here on a Friday night with my girlfriend to satisfy our Thai food craving. We venture to a lot of different Thai places and figured we'd give this one a try based on reviews! Service was great! Greeted and given water and menus immediately. Had the typical run of the mill items you'd see at most Thai restaurants. We ordered the crab rangoon and tom kha chicken soup to start off. Both were flavorful and we enjoyed the crispness of the crab rangoon and the sweet and sour notes from the soup. I had the chicken panang curry - kind of different from what I was used to at other places in terms of taste (not as much of a coconut milk flavor but still enjoyed it). My girlfriend had the chicken pad see ew and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope they weren't offended when we asked for the chili sauce! She loves adding that to her dishes, not because there's not good, but just to add a spice level to it. Overall had a good meal. Only knocked one star off for interior. I really really wanted to like Ben's. After ATK closed in Edgewater this seemed like the next best thing. However, I was left totally underwhelmed. I will say the crab Rangoon was great. If I only had that I would say 5 stars. But the Bangkok Chicken was very sub par. The chicken was dry and tough (I also paid $2.00 for premium chicken? Not sure what that meant, definitely wasn't all white meat). There was very little extra sauce and it seemed like the chicken had been sitting a while (I did do delivery but I live less than a mile from Ben's and the food arrived within 40 mins of my order). It honestly reminded me exactly of what Thai leftovers taste like when you reheat them a day or two later in the microwave. I will probably try Ben's again. The reviews seem great so I'm not sure what happened but really missed me with this round. read more

I think the food is decent but my wife doesn't always agree with me. Would definitely recommend it more for take-out than to dine in, as the place is small with harsh acoustics.
