Great food! Great service! We've been getting delivery regularly for many months. When the discussion starts about where to order from, we all agree on Rice Thai every time. The servings are large and allow for a delicious lunch the next day. The vegetables are very fresh and have a nice crunch. The flavors are nuanced and our food always arrives hot. We have eaten in at Rice Thai cafe twice now, and also gotten takeout several times. The food is always very good and carefully prepared: big thumbs up for the chicken larb, papaya salad, and ginger catfish :) And the young lady who runs the front of house is a sweetheart. Since it is a small place, she manages to turn tables over efficiently without making anyone feel rushed, but also handles the geometry of moving things around when needed! The menu features my all time favorite - the vegetarian Pad Kee Mao. It tastes heavenly! The Pad Kee Mao comes with mung beans, flat noodles, green onions, grape tomatoes, cabbage, tofu, and green peppers. The flavors taste well balanced. The aroma smells terrific. The services rates an A+. The server describes the spiciness level. So Joseph decides on the too spicy that he will regret it. After eating a portion of his food, he regrets it. An extra plus comes from us not having to wait long for our food. Located on Sheridan, many residents come to Rice Thai Cafe. Students can indulge in the food. The prices range from $10 - $12. What I appreciated most was the service provided. The food was amazing & when ordering on the phone, the woman helped me choose my order with her favorites from the menu (papaya salad & spicy basil noodle). She also informed me that call in orders & using their specified website to order, give more money back to them then using grubhub or other food delivery services. They also provide free coupons to meals over $30 & they apply it themselves without you asking. The papaya salad could have been spicier but I didnt want to make it too spicy without knowing their scale (I got a medium) but overall refreshing. The pad thai is a classic & I enjoyed how the sweetness evened out the heat in the meal. The spicy basil noodle (medium) had the same noodles as the pad thai & I enjoyed the complimenting fresh vegetables (green peppers, basil, & onions). Every 5-star rating is true. I've eaten inside the restaurant twice and had the veggie stir fry with tofu both times. Also, I've gone to a friend's home in the neighborhood many times, and my friend gets our dinners to go, so I have eaten food from Rice Thai Cafe perhaps 10+ times. The meals came with a bowl of white rice. The food is high in quality, and the cooking retains the nutritional quality of the ingredients. I love well-done proteins and crispy vegetables, and I find my favorite Thai cuisine at Rice Thai Cafe. In addition, the owners, Kim and her husband, are professionals and offer their customers superior customer service. To conclude, I'd like to say that the prices are reasonable. Kim's restaurant is simply great. What a neighborhood gem! The food is consistently hot, delicious, and cooked to order. The curry dishes are the best, I regularly order noodles, shrimp dishes, and have always gotten recommendations from Kim and the staff which never disappoint. I've been here a few times. The food is good, and inexpensive. The service is great. The space is tiny; there are only about 10 chairs in the whole restaurant. They have a patio for outside seating in the summer, but I'm just waiting for the time when I go and they don't have any seats available. She's Chinese and really knows what's good and what isn't, and for Thai, she like it. I too enjoyed everything we had. We ordered the egg rolls which were crisp and not oily and very fresh tasting. I ordered the chicken curry rice and she ordered the chicken lad nar something or other. Both were prepared fresh and tasted very good. I wish I could of finished it all but had to take part of it home and have it as a morning snack and it was still good. Sorry to hear other people having a bad experience. Maybe it was a bad night? This place has some great Thai fried rice and Pad Se Ewe. I wasn't a fan of their Chicken Satay and their Panang, but the fried rice was pretty solid and satisfies any fried rice craving. The Pad Se Ewe doesn't have the usual pungent scent nor taste but has thicker noodles, a better sauce, and fills your greasy lo-mein/stir- fried noodle cravings. You only had one job, to cook that damn food and be proud of it! And you failed. Pad Thai had absolutely nothing in it, but only noodles big chunks of bad smelly chicken and a couple of bean sprouts with some peanuts crumbs. No tomatoes, no green onion, no eggs, no flavor either. Pineapple fried rice was bad too. Like they burned the pan and scraped it afterwards all in my food. My food had some black crumbs all in it and it's not black pepper. The panang curry was just that watery. I actually thought the flavor itself wasn't too bad, but seriously. The consistency was incredibly liquid. It really should be a bit thicker. The Larb "salad" was about two cups of thin noodles with no dressing, and maybe two tablespoons of ground chicken and a couple of cilantro leaves... no lime, no fish sauce, no spice, nothing (see photo). The Green Papaya Salad (tom sum) was also unforgivably bland... no flavor whatsoever. The beef was similarly flavorless. But the absolute worst dish was the Rama Chicken. The ONLY detectable flavor was a sickeningly sweet sauce that permeated the plain white breast meat. We paid over 70 dollars for a meal we could not eat. I have eaten at more than 400 Thai restaurants, located in more than half of the US States, over a period of more than four decades. I've only tried three items at Rice Thai Cafe, but I am ready to post a preliminary review. My first meal was the Bangkok Chicken entree. The portion was medium in size--which is perfect for my post-cardiac-arrest dietary restrictions, and economical--which is appropriate for my budget. There was a bit more chicken than the other ingredients, but that was great because the chicken was my favorite component of the dish! This entree was so delicious that I realized my sense of smell and taste *is* still acute--and I realized that the reason I had some doubts in that respect is attributable to the mediocre quality of most food which I encounter lately when eating out (i.e., basically bland). Rating--Best I remember having. I also had Chicken Satay. The chicken was cooked perfectly--easy to chew--which is appropriate for my teeth, with some grill bands--which makes it fun to chew, and there were no wooden skewers to worry about--which I found made the satay easier and neater to eat. The sauce was as good as or better than I've had at the majority of the Thai restaurants at which I've eaten, I'd rank it in the upper 20%. Rating--Excellent. Finally, I ordered the Spicy Chicken entree. Like the Bangkok chicken, I found this dish to be appropriately sized and priced, and an unexpected treat for my culinary senses. It is on the spicy side, not overwhelming, but not understated. The ingredients are well matched in size and number, so it is possible to enjoy a medley of tastes in every bite. Rating--Wonderful! I only use the rice to soak up the sauces remaining after consuming the meal. The young lady taking the order over the phone, and "manning" the check-out counter, is kind, sweet, thankful--and exacting. The cooks are serious, they obviously work as a team. The food is prepared quickly even at the peak of the dinner hour (Loyola University is across the street, and students enjoy the local eateries). I can't believe I live walking distance from an economical, outstanding, authentic Thai restaurant again! Finally! I give Rice Thai Cafe an A+, especially given the hassles of the pandemic.
