I was put off by the name of this restaurant - "Chop Suey" conjures up images of cornstarch-thickened greasy 1960's Chinese fare from a small town. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY SERVE HERE! I had their hot and sour soup and it was one of the best I have had locally. Very rich, savory broth with the right amount of sour and hot. NOT THICKENED!!! Very good, and I am picky about hot-and-sour soup. I also had Combination Lo Mein and it was loaded with BIG shrimp, beef and chicken, along with a nice brown gravy and vegetables. Really good. Decent noodles, too - but don't expect hand-pulled Chengdu style noodles. They had a good firm texture and had picked up the flavors from the sauce. Very decent version of lo mein. I will DEFINITELY be ordered from them again. NOTES: I ordered delivery; the soup was 167° F when it arrived and the Lo Mein was 142°. I always check temperature of delivery food. read more

I have been ordering for 15 years. Good food. Decent prices. Over the last few years I've ordered nearly every week. They now upcharge me without telling me. I want the egg Fu gravy on the side to avoid 3rd degree burns as I fish out a pattie from the Lake of Gravy. Extra buck without telling me. They don't know my name. They don't acknowledge me in any way. I tip on every single order. Portions have shrunk a little. OK. This last time they shorted me on plastic cutlery. I realize this sounds petty but they hate us. 15 years. Never "hi, how are you". Cultural thing? I don't know, I think over 1000 orders across 15 years are enough. This is a nice neighborhood staple that has some really good dinner specials. I was warmly greeted by the guy behind plexiglass. I normally get the dinner special for $11.99, it comes with an egg roll and shrimp fried rice. I ordered the shrimp egg foo young dinner (2 patties the lunch special only has one patty) and the Mongolian Beef dinner. The egg foo young is loaded with shrimp and it's fluffy with a really good gravy. The Mongolian Beef is packed full of vegetables and tender beef. It wasn't spicy to me. Next time I have to tell them to make it extra spicy. The only downside to me is the cost of extra green onion at 3.50. Ouch!! They give you the standard soy sauce and sweet and sour, any additional packets are .10. Not bad. Overall decent food at a decent price. read more

Also ordered the Panang Chicken. Dinner specials were really good. Panang Chicken was good but slightly watery and not as full in terms of the container but it was good. Chicken is tender. Mongolian Chicken was really good. Chicken and vegetables tasted very fresh. Ton of vegetables. Was very impressed. Have not tasted the egg rolls that came with the dinner specials. Ton of left-overs. I am shocked at the pricing and portions. I am going back and eager to try the Indonesian fried rice. Looks really good. Accessible parking since it's in a mini-strip mall area. I have no complaints about this restaurant at all. We ordered online through a food app and all the choices were there. I was really wanting eggs in my rice, though I don't really eat rice, do my friend ordered me the Thai fried rice. Apparently this comes with the egg in it. I also wanted sweet and sour chicken so we got that too. The sauce for the sweet and sour chicken was some of the best I've ever had. It didn't taste fake like a lot of places give out. The chicken was perfectly prepared and crispy like we both like. The Thai fried rice was perfect as well. In fact they gave us such a large portion I ate on this alone for 3 days straight. I have been enjoying Chop Suey Huang for the 10+ years I have lived in Lincoln Square, the food was good and the prices were reasonable. I cant say that anymore as they already had 1 price increase earlier this year and I noticed recently they have had another price increase recently, in the range of 20-30%. This far exceeds inflation and industry standard for 2021. An example is Hot n Sour Soup is now $6.95 for a large, up from the $5.50 price it was increased to. This is significantly higher than a nearby competitor on lawrence ave that still sales a quart at $4.25 which was still less than their last price increase. It seems the family business was passed down to the younger generation who increasingly is raising prices. Completely meh. I stuck with some standards, 'cos it was the first time I'd ordered from here. Pork Chop Suey and steamed pot stickers. The potstickers were like giant, swollen ticks. The dough was thick and sticky. The meat had an okay flavor, but they were bland overall. They might have been better fried, and I should have ordered them that way. The sauce was not what I was used to - the usual potsticker dip is a thin liquid with lots of vinegar - this was oily, with hot peppers. Not a bad flavor that, just not what I was expecting. The chop suey - pork happens to be a favorite of mine - was fair. The liquid overall was sort of slimy, viscous and vaguely sweet. The taste was pretty bland, I had to put too much soy sauce on it. I waited 2 hours for my food. First they said he left over 20 minutes ago and should arrive. The delivery driver works for the restaurant. Called twice more and They kept saying the driver would be here any minute - stuck in traffic due to snow. Now they say he delivered the food two hours ago. He didn't. The food might be tasty, but I wouldn't really know. It took over 1hr and 45 min to have my food delivered. By the time I received my food it was cold and the soup was soaked up by the rice since it was suppose to be chicken rice soup. Called the restaurant several times and they said the driver should be there soon. No resolution to delivering cold food or having to wait that long. The restaurant at best is 12 min away. read more
