When I first found Dr. Tam on Yelp, was in really bad shape with lower back pain, upper back pain, knotted back muscles, and my right shoulder was lower than the left. After 2+ months of treatment I am slowly getting back to normal and doing so much better. I came to this chiropractor to get help for my bulging disc from a car accident. I live in Marin, had to travel about 10 miles and pay a toll each time I was very clear that I came to this office to use the decompression table as I know others that have gotten great relief from this procedure after two visits I still was not able to receive the treatment that I came for. Dr. Benson charges top dollar to barely work on your body. I have experienced many many chiropractic treatments in my lifetime & this office was definitely one of the worst! His assistant is extremely impersonal, never introduced herself or explained what she was doing, maybe cuz I'm not Asian? I have had little relief & won't be coming back. His office plays annoying radio music with lots of loud commercials & there is a lot of door slamming, too. Not a relaxing nor healing environment to say the least-very disappointed!! read more

Tan is not a good doctor. I went to his clinic a month ago for sciatica. He pressed the sciatic nerve outlet of my hip with great force. When he pressed, I screamed in pain. I used to have only intermittent pain and could walk a few blocks before seeing Tan, but now I have constant pain 24 hours a day and can't walk. He clearly knew that gravity pressure would damage the sciatic nerve and piriformis muscle, and would make the condition worse, but he did it anyway, his purpose was to make my sciatica worse, and hoped I could go to his clinic for more treatment. I dare not go to his clinic again to see such a vicious doctor. I hope people with my similar diseases don't go to his clinic for treatment, so as not to have the same experience as me. read more

I've been to Dr Tam several times now and he is a miracle worker! I had limited mobility in my neck on one side for years - he fixed it! Also, my gait was off and one leg seemed longer than the other - he fixed that, too! My last few visits were for migraines. I was in so much pain and didn't know what to do. Nothing was working. Then I went to see Dr. Tam and he took away the pain immediately! I went to see him a few more times after that for migraines and they became less severe and now I have been migraine free for months! I hesitate to write this review but I feel that I need to offer a second opinion to all the rave reviews posted here. My experience with Dr. Tam was just fine, and he was able to help me relieve my lower back pain and explain the potential causes very well. However, I couldn't help but feel more like a customer than a patient in his office. He sees multiple people at once and bustles from room to room, which I am sure is standard practice for chiropractors but felt a bit rushed to me. I also couldn't help but feel that I was being up-sold on X-rays and more appointments. When I inquired about what else I could do to help keep my pain from recurring, further chiropractic work seemed to be his main suggestion. I'm confident Dr. Tam is a skilled chiropractor and I myself experienced a relief of my pain but his office is just too business oriented for me at this time. read more

My shoulders and back have had issues for a while (probably doesn't help being in construction). He's helped me loosen up and has informed me that it won't be a one time fix. Dr Tam and his team seriously rock, I can't say enough good things. I've had headaches, neck pain and hip/knee issues for years. I've received treatment from a handful of chiropractors over the years but never felt like I got a real diagnosis or a treatment plan that would really help me other than frequent, pretty forceful adjustments that generally seemed to almost make things worse. During my initial exam with Dr. Tam it was pretty incredible to me that the roots of my issues were so obvious to him. He was incredibly thorough and able to explain things in a way to me that made perfect sense. We also looked over my x-rays together and he took the time to explain what was going on and how we could get me feeling better. Fast forward a month and my headaches are completely gone. Headaches that were honestly pretty debilitating and made working at a desk all day miserable. My neck pain and other pain has hugely improved. Each visit at his office consists of neck stretches, strengthening exercises, electrical nerve stimulation, ultrasound therapy and just a few, very targeted adjustments. After 3 years of pain-free living, I once again found myself with another injury. This time, I injured my lower back while lifting heavy boxes at work. After several days of excruciating pain, I decided to see Dr. Tam again. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my lower back. Dr. Tam put me on a decompression machine. I was started on a lower setting to acclimate the spine and monitor for potential problems. The first day was uneventful and the following days after I noticed a gradual improvement in pain and flexibility. After the fifth day, my lower back pain had essentially dissipated. So I found out this place through my mom. She's been going to see Dr Tam as her chiropractor for quite sometime now and it has done her good especially with her back pain and all. After paying for 20 plus sessions and paying extra for the exercise package, I need to express my final thoughts. Im writing this review because I have gotten chiropractic care 3 times in the past from three different chiropractors and each experience was different. I ONLY came to Bensons chiropractor because this was the only place that was open during the pandemic. My first visit was great, Dr. Tam did a thorough assessment and brought up issues that was causing me pain. I was thinking "OK he knows what he's talking about". I was then thinking back to a GREAT chiropractor company called "chiro-health" and how Dr. Mazgaloff explained to me in 2017 how A LOT of chiropractors do not take the time to assess their patient after each visit and how they usually just strap each person to electrodes and go from room to room in a hurry. That is EXACTLY how I felt after 5 sessions with Dr. Tam. Literally each visit was less then 2 minutes. PLEASE if any one is reading this do not buy the extra exercise package. I though the exercises package would come with individualized exercises specificaly created for each person but instead you are in 1 small room with other patients doing the same cookie cutter exercises that every other person is doing. You stand on a machine that vibrates and honestly the machine does not do anything. With my other chiropractor from chiro health, she gave me exercises/stretches for free to do at home to address my problems so that I would not have to return for more sessions. With Dr. Tam, EVERY patient is standing on the vibrating machine and the only option for further care is paying for more sessions for maintenance work which im sure is the same procedure that consists of strap on electrodes and 1 min adjustments as each session was. I figured 20 something sessions would get the job done. In my past experience for the same body problems I was facing, the chiropractor from chiro health seen me a total of 8-9 times and i was fixed. That just shows the type of care and time a chiropractor puts in with their patient. I also found it odd that he asked me to write a yelp review before my 20 plus sessions were completed. He asked me to write a review after the 7th session or so. So all these 5 star yelp reviews were either from people who were asked to write a review as soon as possible that felt obligated to write a review because it will feel awkward if they didn't OR these 5 star reviews are from people who have never been to a chiropractor before in their life. Dr. Tam had to remind me to leave a review so I felt pressured to leave a 5 star review at first but after going back to my previous chiropractor, I had to leave my real thoughts about this place because the type of care is night and day. Over all, I did get some relief. Day 1 my body was at 40% as in 40% functioning optimally, after all these sessions im at a 77%. Deep down I knew I was not fixed all the way even though Dr. Tam would ask me if im feeling good because there would be days where I would still feel the same tension in my muscles. Im sure Dr. Tam knows the body well but I'm 10000% sure there are other chiropractors that can get you to 100% functioning optimally with less sessions and less time and provide exercises that actually address the issue. My fiance started seeing Dr. Tam and I noticed meaningful change in her posture and improvement in her pain management, so I thought I would try Dr. Tam out for myself. Dr. Tam was attentive to my issues and his bedside manner is great. He drafted a clear game plan for me and over time and with regular visits my pain in my cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine has been substantially reduced. I was having neck issues from long hours of work in front of a computer so I visited Dr. Tam based off of a very positive referral from a friend. I was able to book an appointment with him pretty easily. His office hours were very accommodating to my work schedule and his staff is extremely responsive and friendly. Both Dr. Tam and his staff are multilingual as well, speaking English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. On my first appointment, Dr. Tam identified my neck issue almost immediately after an evaluation. He then reconfirmed it through taking X-rays. Once the X-rays were ready for review, he explained my condition and treatment plan in a way that was super easy for me to understand. As soon as I started my treatment sessions I noticed a significant difference in my condition. My neck and upper shoulder did not have aches or pains anymore. My overall well being was better just from the relief of the treatments. I would highly recommend Dr. Tam for any Chiropractic needs. His treatment plans make sense, are consistent with what he explains, and his hours make it easy to plan around a work schedule. I looked up IRONY in the dictionary, and this guy's photo showed up. When I first hooked up with him, I told him that I was a former client of Latch, So, and Company, and told him that I left them because they were routinely 30 to 45 minutes late, causing me stress on the parking meter ticket front. Benson Tam, a former Latch, So castoff, told me that he knew all about how "they" ran their business, that "we did things differently here," and "I get a lot of his ex-clients." Today, I went in, and he was running 20 minutes late, something that I was not told of ahead of time by he or his receptionist. If I had known this, I would have put more quarters in my meter. After being told that a room was opening up in a minute for 20 minutes, one finally did. I told the receptionist that I needed to be out by a certain time, and she notified the doc that I was in a hurry. Bottom line: I rushed to my car, and I had a $55 ticket for an expired meter. I then put a quarter in the meter so that I could talk to doc and receptionist about the ticket. Doc tried to blame me, saying that I should have parked on another street. And then he tried to pass the buck even further by telling me that he had no control over his late patients who were scheduled ahead of me. I agree with the past reviewers that he's pretty nosy. He also seemed upset that I'd always schedule later appointments, and I'm assuming that this was due to the fact that he wanted to get home, not having any business during the day. If that's not enough, they don't accept credit cards either. Irresponsible, tries to pass the buck, is not accountable, and makes excuses all adds up to this 1-star rating. Thanks to a good friend who recommended me to Dr. Benson Tam. Great Chiropractor, have made quite a bit of progress on my knee, and lower back injuries after just 3 visits. I was not expecting such quick recovery going in to see Dr. Tam but I feel like I'm almost there. Dr. Tam uses the right combination of therapy techniques to have you feeling great in a jiffy. He is truly gifted in his field and I highly recommend him! 5 stars across the board. FYI I drive from San Mateo to see Dr. Tam 3 times a week and I still would if the gas prices go to $6. Dr Tam went above and beyond a normal chiropractic Dr. They first allowed me to walk on same day. Due to my busy military schedule, he was able to treat me as much as possible before I left. I could barely move my neck and Dr. Tam eased a lot of my muscles giving me more range of motion. I've read raving reviews so I was looking forward to my session. But with this first experience, I'm very disappointed. I called earlier in the week and spoke with Benson or a male staff member - scheduled an appointment for Friday @ 2:30pm. I confirmed the date/time with him. I picked him because he's only a couple blocks from my house. Then, I show up on Friday at the schedule time.... and the office is closed!! I call the number to doublecheck if I had the right office and right time. A female picked up the phone and I confirmed with her that he's only at this location on Mon, Wed, Fridays so I DID come on the right day. She mentioned that he's moving to a new house so he closed his office today. At least call your patients to reschedule so they don't show up at a closed-lights off-office. Very unprofessional. Very disappointing. What if I had to take the day off to come to this appointment? I'm not even sure if I would give this office another chance if they can't get their scheduling right. read more

If you're looking for a no-nonsense chiropractor that produces results, suggest you pay a visit to Dr. Benson Tam! Having exercised regularly for many years, I ended up with tendonitis of both inner elbows (a.k.a. golfers elbow; and oddly I do not golf). Although not working out (specifically pull-ups) for over 6 months, the elbow pain did not improve. After visiting a UCSF elbow specialist, the doctor suggested that I just not do pull-ups (as this is the exercise that triggers the sharp pain). The doctor indicated that my pain was not serious enough for surgery; in essence, I was to live with the nagging mild/sharp inner elbow pain (e.g. felt when washing head/face, lifting luggage, etc). A few month's later, per a friend's recommendation, I visited Dr. Tam just to give chiropractic treatment a try. During my first visit, we discussed my elbow condition; and Dr. Tam performed ultrasound therapy on both elbows, and oddly massaged firmly only my right elbow. Thinking that he may have just forgotten to do the left elbow, I was surprised that the very next day, my right elbow started feeling better. As opposed to a sharp pain, I only felt a more widespread dull ache on the elbow. It was the best my right elbow had felt in over a year after only one visit?!? When I visited Dr. Tam again 2 days later, I told him that I was "surprised" that my right elbow was feeling better; and that my left elbow had not improved. He then told me he specifically only worked on my right elbow last visit so that I could feel the difference! Over the course of 5 weeks, I visited Dr. Tam 3x a week for 30 minute sessions. The office is a bit disheveled; and can use some newer magazines...but if you're there for the treatment, it's good enough. Moreover, parking has never been an issue for me at the Belmont office -- he has an SF office also. If you want a professional and tell-you-as-it-is chiropractor, Dr Benson Tam is your man! Still, the left elbow has been slower to fully recover than my right elbow; however, both feel much better as a result of Dr Tam. I look forward to continued visits; but at a much reduced frequency -- per his recommendation. read more
