From the first words of dispatcher Andrew who called MINUTES after AAA processed my dead battery possible alternator request, he showed me he was my kind of people. He heard i'd waited two hours for last 5 Star Auto that was dispatched and also their diagnosis. They blamed their failure to jump start my car on a bad alternator and left. His first concern was whether I was aware a tow to Madison NJ from Hackensack would cost me $170. I said I did - but then expressed concern I pay that ...and said first thing they'd do was sent Pete who was mechanically inclined to try jumping it. Pete cane and in a heartbeat jump my old poor man's Honda to life. And he was a live wire, crackling with a love of life intensity that had descended over time from his Sicilian bloodline. We chatted as it charged and when he left, he demurred a tip. We even laughed we were politically different but not where it matters most: hard work, honesty and helping our fellow men (and women!) He also quickly explained why the other prior drip failed to jump my car to life. That guy bragged he'd been charging dead batteries all day with his charger. Pete explained the obvious: that was why his charger didn't work! GRATZI MILKE BROOKSIDE! These guys could have just towed me 34 miles without ever questioning the priory inept assessment. They could have money on the two. But they didn't. Their first instinct was more akin to one you'd have for family or friends. Bergen Brookside helped me out big time when I had a tire blowout on the Garden State Parkway last night. I dialed #GSP (#477) to get connected to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority's Operation Center, where one of their dispatchers sends an authorized vehicle to provide roadside assistance. FYI - When you're on either the Turnpike or G.S. Parkway, for towing or any roadside service, you're required to go with the NJTA's companies. Fortunately, Bergen Brookside is one of them. This was my first flat tire on a highway. I was driving alone and it was night time, too. I was freaked out. Within 30 minutes after calling dispatch, a Bergen Brookside truck pulled up on the shoulder where my disabled car was. Following their arrival to pick up my truck there driver asked me and directed me as to how to position my truck so he could pick it up following his directions, he directed me to back up when one of my tires in the front was already slightly tilted causing the front axle to collapse and what should have been a couple of $100 turned into a $1,500 repair which brookside denied any responsibility for but the mechanic that fixed it knew the technician from brookside and said that he was wrong and he admitted it after I dropped my vehicle off and was no longer present. Brookside denied responsibility completely. Terrible company all about the money no responsibility no integrity would never recommend. Didn't even hear me out before they were running from responsibility young tow truck driver inexperienced untrained it would appear, shameful how a company that gets so much work from the Town and county to be so irresponsible and negligent. My car suddenly stalled on the Garden State Parkway on a Saturday Afternoon; I called AAA and they sent Bergen Brookside to get my car out of a dangerous place and they came very quickly. The tow truck driver was polite and considerate but left me at a closed lot to do another job before being sure I had been able to contact a ride to the train to continue south to the Washington, DC area. Fortunately after an hour he came back and graciously gave me a ride to a convenience store where I could withdraw cash for a Lyft, which he was kind enough to arrange himself. He should get a raise. On a sour note, my car was in storage at BB from about 5 PM Saturday afternoon until just before 10 AM Tuesday morning, and the storage charge ($43 per day) came to $178. Seems a bit excessive considering I had them look the car over to see if they could possibly to the repair work (it turned out that my gas tank had a hole in it and the straps holding it in place had corroded) and I could not get anyone on the phone there until Monday. I was very fortunate to find a friend of a friend willing to pick up the car quickly, but I don't think that the car was in "storage" until BB decided they could not do the repair. read more

A few weeks ago, my car died in an intersection in Westwood. A nice guy pushed my car across the intersection and the police called Brookside. I asked the driver to tow it to my Volvo mechanic in Bergenfield, but he said he couldn't. Instead, he brought it to a local mechanic who was literally one block away on Fairview. I was charged $125 for this. After the weekend, I had it towed to Bergenfield from Westwood. A different towing company charged me $120. $125 for one block is not only outrageous, but criminal. They clearly took advantage of the situation I was in, and being elderly, alone, and overwhelmed, it was cruel. Shameful. read more

The worst Towing Service that AAA has. My Mother who is diabetic had her waiting for 4hours. Her glucose went up and i had to take her to the hospital only to have the tow truck driver from Brookside towing tell me that although my mom is 73 and her glucose went up she needed to be there cause it is a company policy. We have possibly used AAA about 10x this year and not once has my mother ever been there or showed her mwmber ID. They are very fast to collect the 90 dollars for the Tow but they cant tow the car of a 73 year old person with medical conditions cause she is not there to follow there company policy that is never obeyed. Discusting customer service and the female who answered the phone call for AAA was even more discusting and unproffessional. I will be canceling my Gold Membership which ive had for 8yrs. read more

Took 5 hours for a car that was 15 minutes away and when the driver finally arrives he has an attitude and denies taking the vehicle because the member with the triple A card wasn't there. The member was 10 minutes away and they didn't want to take the car and drove off after taking our pre payment from triple A. Last week we had terrible freezing weather, and I was at the mall. I ran outside to check my car and I could not get in, as the doors were frozen shut. I went back inside and called the police. They were absolutely no help and suggested that I call a towing company. So, I called Bergen Brookside, my hometown tow company. I explained what was going on, and the dispatcher said there were no trucks available, but maybe in an hour or so. That was fine by me, as I was not yet ready to leave. As I was walking out an hour later my cell rang, and it was Bergen Brookside telling me that the truck was waiting by my car. I couldn't believe it! When I walked over I gave my door another tug, and it opened! Bergen Brookside would not take a penny, since they said that they did nothing. Unbelievable! I was stunned! I got into an accident Monday at 6:00 after work, I was sent directly to the hospital. My vehicle was unfortunately sent to brook side towing. Wednesday, when I got out of the hospital I was given a quote of between $220-240 if I picked up the car that day, and $30 every additional day. The car was left Monday night to Friday afternoon. Friday when I came to pick up the car, the bill was a whopping $366.91. How generous! On top of that, I ordered a tow to AAA to avoid them, they picked up my account through AAA and said my car would be back home in an hour. This was 3:30 PM, with three of their tow trucks sitting outside. It is now 10:00 PM at night, and they have been turning town AAAs calls, avoiding my own calls, and have apparently put my car as a "Non urgent call" in the AAA system. This is the most unprofessional service I've ever used. Con artists to a T. Next time stop profiling people because you think they won't say anything. Please don't let them tow you if you have a say. Edit- They actually didn't arrive until 11:40, almost midnight, so coming out of the hospital I had to stay up all night instead of resting. Thoughtful guys! Glad my car is safe at Regal Auto Body in Bloomfield NJ and not with some shmuck with a jazz cap on. Goodnight and good riddance. read more

This morning on my way to the vet, I got a flat tire. In less than 20 minutes, John arrived. I explained that I had my dog in the car and he said, no problem, just take him out for a few minutes while I move your car. Then I put my dog back in the car, and jumped into the nice warm truck. The employee that towed my car here caused more damage to my car and my side mirrors by pushing the mirrors in that's automatic. While towing my car, the guy was very angry and aggressive. After just getting out of an accident he was simply asked "will towing it this way, mess up my bumper". Instead of answering, he became defensive and stated "It's not fault you got into an accident and you should learn how to drive". After coming out of a traumatic experience this was very uncalled for. While ripping off my entire bumper, he didn't even explain anything he just keep doing what he was doing. I'm not sure if it's because I'm black, but he came off very aggressive and angry for no reason at all. After visiting the towing yard, it appears to me that they encourage this type of behavior from their employees. The guy that towed my car even took it upon himself to push the bumper piece back in as if he is trying to hide the damage that was done. I don't know what kind of business this is but it's appears to be a shady one. read more

These guys have excellent customer service. Everyone was friendly, from the office to the people working on my car. They explained everything to me at each step, were knowledgeable and seemed honest. They towed my car in on the Saturday morning of Memorial day weekend around 8.30 am on a police impound for overdue registration..(15 days overdue).....same day..I went to motor vehicle got my registration...went back to police station got the letter of release form thats required ....went to brooksides Hackensack location (where the car was located) got there alittle after 12 noon they were closed...... . I called their number and was able to speak with a live person who was at their Emerson location...but he said there wasn't anything he could do ....he said call back tomorrow.(Sunday) Maybe someone would be in Hackensack then. . .Sunday I called...and got a live person in Emerson....who is there 24 -7- 365....specifically for the towing operations...I was told I would have to wait until Tuesday am to get my car released...I explained I had a disabled wife ...and needed my car...he said theres nothing he could do.... There is always someone there ....to dispatch...drive the towtrucks.....lock the vehicles up in the impound yard....BUT NO ONE TO RELEASE A CAR. Needed a jump for my battery last week. Got Brookside through AAA...Izzy was great-came quickly and was very professional. Took it to my regular auto place (where I bought the battery). They said all was fine (and it was). But the real special part was today. After the jump Thursday, my car didn't start again today. They sent Izzy again. What a PROFESSIONAL! He jumped my car again, but then ran his own diagnostic tests-several. He found the problem and printed out the reports to show my usual guys what the real problem was so they could address it correctly. read more
