I needed a new luggage and thought Bergman was a choice. I wasn't sure if it would be a great choice based on the reviews but I felt a bit limited. Bergman is located in an older strip mall complex near the mall. Parking was a bit iffy but once inside I was impressed to see all the luggage. The sales associate behind the counter stood there saying nothing and not moving. My friend and I walked around a bit, it isn't a huge store, and another person came in and left without saying anything or having anything said to him. The sales associate just stood there. I went to a bag and started to look at it and as if a switch had been flipped the sales associate sprung into action. He walked over and offered to show me the bag's features. He then ran through a well rehearsed speech that was very informative while demonstrating. I was like yup, this is what I want. He grabbed me a new bag, engraved it, and rang me up cheerily. Very rude customer "service". We went to shop for some higher-end luggage, and chose this store as we found it carried a brand we were interested in. We go in and the sales associate there is busy helping another party. My wife indicates to the associate that when he's done that we would like some guidance on purchasing new suitcases. Well, when he's done, instead of coming to us, he just goes to whatever the heck he's doing. At some point my wife expresses disappointment that he didn't come help us. At this point, the sales associate says "if you're not happy with the service, the door's wide open. You can leave." What the heck is that? Even if you don't agree with the feedback you are receiving, this is hardly a professional way to respond to a customer who is potentially looking at spending four figures on quality luggage in your store. Not reliably open during open hours. I stopped in a few days ago. The clerk was helpful and friendly, but while the store has lots of luggage, it doesn't actually have much of a selection of their main brands. For example, it had a single color of the Briggs & Riley Sympatico, which is being discontinued, and none of the Torq which has been around for nearly a decade. But the real problem is, I've TRIED to stop in about four times in the last month. Twice before that time and once yesterday to actually buy a piece I'd seen earlier. All during opening hours between noon and 5pm; yesterday (Friday) at 4pm. They were closed. Three of those four times. No hours posted on the door, although the site claims they're open 10am-8pm during the week. How can you get items or service from a place that is unreliably open? read more

I've bought almost all my luggage here for decades, and wouldn't go anywhere else. I needed a new suitcase today and once again had such great service that helped me select the perfect option for me. The young salesman (unfortunately I did not get his name) showed me exactly the types of case I asked for (mid-size), recommended the best value (which I went with), and went out of his way to show me how the case opens and expands, and nice features like wheels that swivel and interior garment bag. He also searched for new, boxed luggage vs. the floor model. And he set the TSA lock code I requested. (It took him seconds and it usually takes me about 1/2 hour! LOL.) We purchased 2 Thule 24" spinners for our trip to London at Thanksgiving. We specify bought 'local' vs purchasing online to support a local retailer. A piece of the handle on one of the bags popped off on the trip. When we returned, less than 3 weeks from purchasing the bags, Bergman's wouldn't swap out for a new bag. We had to send it to the manufacturer to fix it. If I dropped it at their store to fix it, it would cost me $30. This seemed unreasonable so I asked to discuss it with the manager. When I got ahold of the manager, he said the only way he could wave the $30 was through some arrangement with Thule. He said he would call them and get back to me with 2 days. It's been 1 1/2 weeks and I have reached out two times to Bergman's with no response. I won't go to Bergman's again; I'll just purchase online. read more

It says free shipping but even when you spend $200 you still have to pay for shipping. I have called, emailed so many times regarding my order and no one ever got back to me. As we were ignored from the minute we entered the store, we had time to peruse all of the store's offerings. When I glanced at a suitcase near the couple that he was already helping, he glared at me, more concerned with making his current sale than acknowledging our presence. Given, the awkwardness of the situation, I asked if he could help us when he got a chance. To which, he replied quite brusquely. Finally, when he did approach us to see if we needed help, we didn't know what to say we were quite taken aback by his lack of civility. Then, unprofessionally, he joked with the other couple how we claimed to have needed help and we didn't. He completely lost it when I mentioned the low Yelp reviews. I told the gentleman the dimensions that I needed, and he assured me that it was the correct size. One thing I appreciate about specialty stores is the staff knows what they are talking about. I went to every store in Bellevue/Lincoln Square that sells luggage and every single place just wanted to sell me something. The staff at Bergman's actually listened to what I needed luggage for and asked me a bunch of questions about trip length, purpose, etc. The samples I was shown were all relevant and met my needs. The one thing I usually don't like about specialty stores is full MSRP. Not in this case! Bergman's had the same sale prices the department and chain stores had plus some other deals. I ended up getting the same piece I saw at Macy's for the same sale price in the color I wanted. They worked hard to earn my business and a happy customer. I'll return. read more

I had to give them a 1 star rating based on customer service I received. I went to Bergman Luggage looking for a converter for my curling iron and blow dryer SPECIFICALLY. I asked the attendant who helped me for a converter that could support the watts that I needed. (It was a last minute trip to the UK and I didn't have time to order on Amazon and do my research) What he gave me was a simple adapter and my curling iron and blow dryer ended up getting fried. (I'm lucky they didn't catch on fire) When I got home and returned the adapter telling the people that worked there they didn't even pretend to care, returned my adapter and let me go on my way. I cannot recommend you buy from this place. Apparently, anything on sale cannot be refunded. They have a 30 day return policy but only for items that are full price. To be fair, it is stated in their return policy knee-deep in small print. We bought a piece of luggage that at the end of the day was much smaller than what we thought. It is not going to work for us. Given that we have to pay for return shipping which is fine, provided we return the items in new condition with boxes etc. within 30 days, they should be able to take the item back in my opinion. Technically though, I have no beef. Most people won't buy something unless it's on sale, especially online. I can see a company raising their prices 5% and then putting them on sale for that same 5% ensuring that they don't have to take any sort of returned product. Pretty shrewd marketing, but bad for ongoing business. Hence this review. Bottom line: There's absolutely no reason to buy from these folks whatever. You simply can get the same item at the same price or for less with way better / safer service policies. Steer clear from these people. read more

Unbelievably poor follow-up service. I purchased a very expensive Bric's bag in May 2015 from Bergman's in Bellevue. Zipper pull broke in January 2016. Bag has 5 year warranty. Bergman's tried to charge me to send my bag out for repair service. I protested, so I didn't get charged. However, my bag was shipped to Portland - and the repair shop in Portland wanted $30 to repair the bag. The first person that I spoke with in Portland said that they were not an authorized Bric service center. I went back to Bergman to complain - and Bergman had their Bric rep contact me to ensure me that Bric would cover the repair. I called the Bric rep back last Friday to ask him to contact the repair shop in Portland to pay the bill. It is now Wednesday - the Bric rep hasn't contacted the shop in Portland and I need the bag back, so I paid the bill. I could just as easily have purchased the bag from an online retailer instead of supporting my local business. What is the point of supporting the local business that doesn't provide customer service? What is the point of a warranty? read more
