I had a very stressful first-time customer experience and would not use their services again. My rug was picked up as scheduled but without any record/receipt left behind, so the company initially denied having it. It took four phone calls and numerous emails before my rug was finally located. I was then charged $50 before they were willing to deliver. If you value your time, go with another service - one that actually respects its customers. read more

Kind of expensive but poor quality - AVOID I decided to try their free pickup/drop off service. The clothes came back much cleaner, not pressed and with a button that was sewn back on by a preschooler. For this I was charged about twice what I pay at my neighborhood cleaners. read more

How hard is it to take a bag of clothes, wash and press them and get them back? Apparently it's pretty hard because every review is 1 star. I wish I could give them 0 stars. AVOID Bergmann's Cleaning at all costs. Unless, of course, you're craving some bad customer service and you like having your clothes lost. I was using the home delivery service for about 6 months and then in one order they did not return one of my items. After MONTHS of calls talking to different staff members who assured me they were looking into it, taking care of it, letting their supervisor know, etc. I demanded to speak to Mr. Bergmann. He was on vacation so I waited a couple of weeks. He didn't call when he returned, and after FOUR more phone calls to the "customer service" department I finally got a call back. No dice. The jack-ass didn't care at all and said they would not honor a claim. This is such crap. read more

They repeatedly lost clothes or did a poor job cleaning. When finally I lost patience about a pair of pants they lost they said they didn't have a record of the pants (which of course was true or they wouldn't have been lost!!) and therefore couldn't compensate me. 1 little dog. 1 brand new PB comforter. 1 heck of a mess. I took my peed on comforter here with pee still warm. I got it back with black lint balls, dried pee, and dried pee smell. I hand washed the stain and poof like magic it is gone. I guess I paid them $27 to store the comforter until the pee dried. This place sucks. Stay away. Stay far away. read more

Even an employee at Safeway a year ago told me he had things lost by that dry cleaning service. I had several lost. The company then tried to pay me what they felt the items were "worth" at that current time, not replacement value. My suggestion, go elsewhere. Right down Elden Street toward Reston there is a discount dry cleaner which is excellent. The Safeway employee sent me there and I have used them successfully for over a year. read more

This DC, MD & VA dry cleaning chain TOOK ME TO THE CLEANERS. It wasn't bad enough when the pants I took in for alteration were uneven, but then two buttons were missing from a suit and one of my shirts was missing. A comedy of errors? Yes, but it wasn't funny. This all happened in one visit (luckily my duvet and a few other shirts were intact and returned clean). Somehow it was meant to seem like my fault. Not sure how that happened, but I will not be returning to give it another shot. read more

Atrocious customer service. They lost a pair of my pants and it took over a month for it to be resolved. It was also not resolved by any effort on on their part as I had to call back to get answers. They also low balled me on the price they were willing to pay. Not only that the Safeway my dry cleaning was dropped off at scoffed the name Bergmann as apparently they lose clothing all the time. I'm giving one star because I can't rate it at zero. I sent my carpet back after Bergmann's obviously didn't clean it the first time. It came back the second time still not cleaned. I know it wasn't cleaned because I ran a corner of it under water in the bathtub and dark brown water flowed out. It wasn't a matter of a single stain remaining, the carpet was obviously untouched after twice sending it in for cleaning. If they'd even rinsed the carpet under water I wouldn't have gotten this result. read more

Bergmann the worst dry cleaners ever, they picked up my wife's dress that she recently purchased to dry clean it,it was a beautiful dress in snow white color. they return the dress after dry cleaning and it was yellow! my wife speaks to Mr. Bergmann himself and he send the driver to pick it up to look at it, he tells my wife immoderately that they are following the wright instructions to clean and it is a manufacturing defect. My wife said that my friend also purchased the same dress and send it to another cleaners and it came back white like the way she send it to the other cleaner and Mr Bergman says i am not going to cut a check for the dress,and whey we allays get blamed for what happens to people clothing, she says actually i do not use bergmann normally and i never had any problems with the cleaner i normally use. I am sorry to have to say that I fully agree with every review posted here. My husband and I took in a beautiful suit that he inherited from his grandfather and he wore to our rehearsal dinner to have cleaned and it was returned to us with new spots and cracked and missing buttons. We had also taken the dress I wore to leave our wedding which was ruined - streaks down the front and missing beading. The people working at the counter were rude and refused to address the problem. We eventually were refunded the cost of dry cleaning the suit but not the dress. I will NEVER go there again and would rather pay 10 times what they charge to go elsewhere. read more

Bergmann's picked up my custom drapes, cleaned them, and delivered them back to me before I expected them. I had taken a different set of drapes to another dry cleaner and they destroyed them and charged me twice what I paid Bergmann's. The pickup and delivery feature is so convenient and they do great work. I could not be more pleased. read more

In this episode, our heroic firm attempts to deliver the cleaned rugs. Wednesday before 12 was the appointment - a six-hour window that seemed pretty generous to me the customer. Wednesday came. "I'm here for your pickup." "No, it's a delivery." "Oh. Well, how about Friday before 12." "OK." There is no customer service here. We have an old wool rug that had pet urine on it. After trying unsuccessfully to clean and deodorize the rug ourselves with baking soda, we called Bergman to pick up the carpet. They did this on a Friday. After not hearing from them for more than a week, I called to find out where the rug was. The number goes to the plant in Sterling. It took a day for them to find the rug. They assured me it had been cleaned. Getting it dropped off at a convenient time so I could look at the rug before I paid was impossible, so I prepaid with a credit card and took my chances. The rug was delivered the next day, wrapped in paper. It had not been cleaned (the baking soda was still on the rug )and it smelled worse than when we sent out two weeks before. I called the plant the next day. I was told that given the circumstances, I would have to speak with Jeff Bergman to get reimbursed. Mr. Bergman was rude on the phone, especially when I asked to have my credit card credited for the amount of the bill (as it turned out,they had not yet submitted the receipt, so no charges were made). After yelling at his assistant to not process the charge, he asked me if we were done and then hung up the phone before I could answer. I would give them 0 stars if that were possible. read more

I am in Vienna and used Safeway on 29 to drop off my clothes. The service is run by Bergmanns. Not sure how they swindle Safeway management to get the contract but here is my horrible experience. I dropped of my clothes (4 shirts and 1 pant). When I went to pick it up yesterday, only 2 shirts showed up. The clerk couldn't find the other clothes. Then she went beserk, saying here we go again (that was my first clue). After 10 minutes and working wit another CSR, I was told to come back tomorrow. The csr was trying to call them but was not getting a real person on the phone. The representative he was trying to reach was somebody named jen and who was never available according to him. I go today and still my clothes are not there. I ask for store manager, who was really nice (@Safeway). He said unfortunately, they have always had issues with Bergmanns and at his other store, he had over 200 complaints against them. I asked him why did the Safeway mgmt still continued their relationship with them. He has no idea. He said that they are aware of the issue. Then he shows me the book with all the customer complaints for Bergmanns. Holy cow. The book was almost full. I said, this teaches me not to bring my clothes here. He says I shouldn't. He does not bring his own there. Wow-- I am not sure who Bergmanns have paid off at Safeway, but they need to discontinue their relationship, as it is giving Safeway a bad name. I will be taking this pathetic excuse for a business to court! They ruined a designer dress I wore once to my daughters wedding in May. They have been totally unresponsive . WORST customer service ever!!! My down coat was picked up by their driver and when it was returned the color on 3-4 buttons had come off partially. When I called customer service to inform them how my coat was returned and the representative said to me, they shouldn't have returned it to you like that, I will have the driver pick it up. I had to wait a little over a week for that to happen. I waited for almost 2 weeks, with nothing. I called yesterday and the representative says she has not spoken with the manager yet?!!? and she would call me back the same day, which DID NOT happen. I had to call back, only to be told that it was sent to them that way and that it would be returned to me!!! When I questioned the representative, she HUNG the phone up!!! It seems there isn't an option for zero stars as that is what I would have picked. I sincerely wished I had visited Yelp before I took a pair of beloved jeans for repair to Bergmann's two summers ago. It was a small tear near the fly of lightweight quality denim. I adored the jeans so I believed they were worth the price of having them professionally repaired/reinforced. Professional is not even a part of the equation: the counter clerks are rude if they are not so engrossed in their own conversations that they ignore you. The work done to my jeans was pathetic. They barely even stitched near the hole and when I complained and asked that the repair be done again I was greeted with annoyance and borderline hostility. I dreaded having to go back in to pick up my jeans, but while I was peeved I tried to believe it was a couple of bad days and they just might make it right. Wrong. Again. Upon my third trip I was slated to pick up on a Friday, but the truck was late delivering the items (who knew they sent them out elsewhere?) Days later when my jeans were finally back I returned to find that they had sloppily sewed ALL over the fly area -- almost as a retaliation for my dissatisfaction of their original work. I have never been back and have encouraged many others to stay FAR FAR away from Bergmann's. This place is the pits. I am so pleased to have found Millie's. read more

I had six area rugs cleaned and they all came back looking dirtier than when they picked them up.

Stay away! They lost my clothes and now won't return my calls. I am suing them. Anyone want to join in? When will I learn to check Yelp BEFORE using a new company?? They picked up our clothes, did not give us a receipt, and when they were not delivered weeks later, I called and their manager was very rude. I finally got to Larry Bergmann, Jr, who said they lost them and can't find them, but he would make things right, when he returned from vacation. Of course didn't call me when he returned from vacation, but when I was finally able to reach him he asked me to send a list of my lost items. I mailed him the list, via certified mail, and he has not called me back, or returned my calls. They should no be allowed to be in business. read more

My mother had Bergmann's pick up 4 antique oriental rugs for cleaning. When they returned the rugs, one of them was missing. When she told them one of the rugs was missing, they said they left it and would return it the following day. Well, they never found the rug and offered her 100.00 for the rug that was over 60 years old. She was devastated. Bergmann's is the worst cleaner and their customer service sucks. read more

I don't use Bergmanns often since I have a cleaner closer to my house that I use for regular cleaning. However, I have an oriental rug that I have taken to Bergmanns several times, and each time they have done a good job of cleaning it, returned it when it was promised, and surprisingly charged very little for the 9x12 ' rug. I highly recommend them. read more

In July I sent 4 rugs and a runner to be dry cleaned by Bergmann's Cleaners. I placed the dry cleaned rugs that were wrapped in paper down in our dry garage in August while our renovation was underway...They were there for about 4 weeks. I unwrapped 3 of the rugs...no problems..they looked clean. The 4th rug; a very pretty star shaped oriental rug looked ok...but sort of smelled. I placed it in our family room...where it was before the renovation. The rug emitted such strong smells that over the course of two days, I became ill. We rolled it up; placed it in the garage and I tried to call Bergmann's about the rug...no answer..so I emailed them...no response...So I would not ever use this company for anything again. They ruined the rug; made me ill; and there is nothing but silence from them. They ruined a wonderful rug. Do not use this company... read more

I recently had a problem with Bergmanns after hurricane Irene. Sooo upset with the service. But After dealing with Jeff Bergmann,who is over the fire and flood section, I am very happy.You know some business owners don't want to hear your complaints. He was understanding,which blew me away. He said that he just wanted to make me happy,and happy he did. He deducted half of the cleaning bill. A very large bill I might add! So we need to also let people know when we are satisfied also.I was so afraid to use them after reading all the reveiws. Crooked dealings at Bergmann's in the Falls Church Safeway. They charged me $351 to NOT clean two rugs, then hid behind Safeway as a third-party to my dispute to get my money back. When I picked up my rugs and unwrapped them at home, they were still filthy and many phone calls with the owner still would not settle the issue; Mr. Bergmann himself 'volunteered' to picked them up at my home and do the job right, but alas, did NOT show up leaving me $351 poorer and still needing to clean my rugs. I disputed the credit card charge with VISA and they told me my dispute was not with Bergmann's but with Safeway. Unbelievable. Safeway and Bergmann's are laughing all the way to the bank on this one....Yelp needs some negative stars. The absolute worst company. We have done business in the past for rug cleaning, but this the worst. We scheduled pick up service for today (June 9) two weeks ago - confirmed yesterday - and called 3x today to confirm since we were told they would pick up before noon and as of noon there was no pickup. As of 4pm - still no show & we were told the pickup driver had returned to the shop. They asked if I wanted to talk to his supervisor - yes - they transferred me - this person's voice mail message was they were on the phone - that was 4 hours ago & the message is still the same (extension 129). I guess this person likes to talk on the phone. I sent an email message to Jeff Bergmann - still no response - now 8 hours later. I guess this company does not understand customer service, let alone quality service. And they say they have been in business 99 years, but obviously their children do not have the same customer service quality standards - so true today. I took 3 suits and a handful of shirts to Safeway which took it to Bergmann's. The shirts came back okay, but the ironing was not great and there was still a small stain on one shirt. Of the suits, one somehow got left at Safeway, I don't know if that was their fault or Bergmann's. On the other suit, the pant cuff had been completely undone somehow. When I called to complain I got lost in the phone system, and some of the phone menu items didn't work. I'll be finding a new dry cleaner. read more

If I could give this place minus 10 stars, I would. Three weeks ago, my mother took three small, sculptured oriental rugs 40+ years old to Bergmann's to be cleaned. When they were returned, two of the rugs were OK but the third had red dye splattered over both ends and the fringe was stiff as a board and matted together. When my mother called them they said that the one rug had "faded". When my mother pointed out that there was no red color in the rug to fade or bleed and asked why two were OK but one was not, the man very snootily said that if he tried to fix it by bleaching it, the whole rug would be bleached out. So she ended up with one rug out of a lovely set ruined . We also never knew that this company sends out its items. They give the impression that Bergmann's does all their own work. Maybe at one time. But I bet the Bergmann family ancesters would be horrified at the deplorable state to which their family business has sunk. Go to Millie's! They are the best in Arlington! read more
