I moved and need a new Eye Center. I have a good experience six years ago when I moved to Houston at Berkeley Eye Center but eventually moved to Westside. I'm back in the heights and Berkeley Eye Center is close to my work. My Doctor was Pontea Momeni O.D. she was very knowledgable and pleasant. Came here because my nephew (out of town) broke his glasses right on the nose bridge. Found them online and they were so kind to fix it at no charge. While perusing their glasses I found a pair that I loved! I had my optometrist I normally see fax them over my prescription and Nicole was so sweet to go through the different lens and even let me know about discounts that are offered throughout the year. Loved that she mentioned different promotions in case I wanted to wait. Between her customer service and Taylor fixing my nephews glasses I decided to move forward with my purchase. Great experience at the Weslayan location for Lasik in both eyes. After wearing glasses and contacts for 25 years, if you're looking to do Lasik, I highly recommend Berkeley. They were even nice enough to ship the contacts for no charge to a different state where I was currently located, and they came within 3 days!! The Berkeley Eye Center bent over backwards for me today, and I very much appreciate it! I had cataract surgery the beginning of January, and it went very well. This past week I have had new floaters that have not dissipated. I started getting a bit nervous as I thought they would lessen or disappear. I phoned Berkeley at about 1 P.M. The receptionist told me to come right over. I did. Dr. Momeni dilated my eyes and checked them thoroughly. I was fine. Amelie was wonderful as well. It was a relief to know I was not getting a torn retina. Thank you!! read more

I have been planning on getting Lasik for a few years now and decided it was finally time to take the plunge. I asked a couple of my co-workers who have gotten the procedure done for referrals and one was for Dr. Michael Caplan at Berkeley. After getting consultations from 3 different places, I was comfortable with choosing Berkeley. The staff was very friendly and informative. The counselor during my consultation answered all my questions objectively and I didn't feel any pressure at all to go forward with the surgery unlike the other 2 locations I visited. Aside from the 20/20 vision I currently have right now, I think the biggest plus was the flexibility in scheduling all the visits. I was able to come in during my lunch hour for all visits except for the day of the actual procedure when I had to take the whole day off from work. So throughout the whole process, there are a total of 5 visits which of course the day of the procedure being the most exciting. Description of the visits listed below. 1 - free consultation 2 - pre-op day before the procedure for eye tests and exam 3 - day of procedure 4 - post-op check up day after procedure 5 - post-op check up 1 month after procedure It has been 2 weeks since I have gotten the surgery so I still have the 5th visit which I am already scheduled to come in during my lunch hour that day. I was explained to expect to the spend 2 - 3 hours at the center on the day of surgery. I came in with my designated driver. Wait was about 30 minutes and I was called in. The process seems very efficient. Was giving some numb drops and a valium to calm my nerves then under the machine I went. I work in a machine shop environment and I was completely amazed that it only took a total of 90 secs of actually being under the machine to correct both my eyes with the laser. No pain at all, not even any discomfort. During the 90 secs, it was like a roller coaster ride, I felt excited, thrilled, and nervous all at the same time. I even jokingly asked if I can go again. Right after the procedure I can immediately notice my vision was improved dramatically but it was still a bit hazy which is normal. With my designated driver, we were in and out of the place in 1.5 hours. I woke up early the next morning to come in for my 1 day post-op check up (visit 4) and as I was waking up, I felt like I had a brand new set of eyes. All the haziness was gone and I was able to drive myself to the check up. The check up was just to make sure there were no complications and conduct an eye exam. No complications on my part and eye exam confirmed I had 20/20 vision. I was in and out after 30 minutes enjoying my new eyes. I would definitely recommend this place for lasik for anyone who is thinking about getting it done. It was definitely worth it for me. No more glasses or dry irritating contacts! read more

I normally don't put reviews for medical establishments because I don't want you going there. My fantastic doctors and dentists are hard enough to get into without the whole world knowing about them. For optometry, however, I make an exception. I love this place. The staff is professional and friendly from start to finish--from the front desk staff, to the technicians, to the doctor, to the optical lab. I even had a resident (or medical student) spend some extra time on an eye exam--teaching facilities are the best in my book. The selection of eyewear is extensive and pretty impressive. Unfortunately, I tend to gravitate to something with excellent fit and comfort first, but also something rather stylish. I then find out that it's a designer brand (with the designer price tag). But thinking about it, this is going to be seen by everyone, every time they look at your face the next few years. One needs to consider when purchasing that it is a more important accoutrement than a pair of shoes or a piece of jewelry. How many fingers am I holding up? Two thumbs. If you can't see them, then get yourself some glasses. read more

I must've caught them on a bad day. The ladies at the front desk were helpful and professional, but the wait for doctor was atypically long (about 30 minutes). Sitting with my eyes dilated for that long was a smidge uncomfortable. The exam just felt very rushed, but everyone was still knowledgeable & perfunctorily friendly enough - albeit visibly stressed about the back up. I wanted to try out contacts again, but my prescription wasn't in stock. It's okay though, they're able to mail a trial to your house for about $50~ I think? When browsing for new frames, the lady who helped me was personable and knew a lot about the frames. When it came time to file the paper work and finances . . . That took an extensive amount of time while she had to repeatedly ask her coworkers for help. She's great; just needs a bit more training with the online filing system. (Not naming names 'cause I don't roll like that) TL;DR: I trust the doctor I have & understand that back ups/new employee learning curves happen. Hopefully this can be used as constructive criticism. Not a disastrous experience & probably will return. read more

organized.like a conveyor belt of patients and system. After two years w/ lasik, and paying 4-5g out of my pocket. I was told they would have a complimentary "touch up" if my vision is skewed. Well, I still have "glare" and "halos". I was informed if I want a retouch, I have to do an exam, which cost another 200 out of my own pocket since I don't have insurance. And on top, it's not a guarantee my eye sight will be better. So since you should only do it twice in your life. I opted out and just deal w/ it. What bugs me was I referred a friend, and she went to a different office than I did...and they told her that if she has "enlarged pupils" or "dry eyes"...there will be those problems...but no one told me at this location. several of my friends have gotten lasik from other companies and it was half the cost, life time touch ups, and more personal feel. read more

In the past few years, I have seen both Dr. Sun and Dr. Garza for my yearly eye exams and contact fittings. They are both INCREDIBLY nice and professional doctors. The staff is always friendly and they also have a fairly large eye glasses store with decent selection. (I bought a pair of Dior eye glasses a few years back.) The place is huge since they usually have several doctors on staff. I've always made my appointments early in the mornings so wait time is minimal- usually within 5-10 minutes, score! What I love the most is that they don't do the "puff of air in the eye" test. I remember always having to redo this test over and over at other places because I would blink. They don't do that here!! Woo! The eye center and lasik center are located on the entire 4th floor of this building. (They are completely separate even with separate entrances.) I can't speak for Lasik since I haven't gotten it, but I know friends who have gotten it here and they say it's life changing. Berkeley Lasik is pretty famous. so if I ever managed to dig up some courage and decide to go for Lasik, I would totally come to this place. read more

From the first phone call with Alma to my preliminary appointment to my surgery with Dr. Callan to my follow up the next day with Dr. Garza, every question or concern I might have had was treated with respect and care. I started coming to Berkeley Eye Center when it was still partnered with Dr. Mann after many disappointing eye exams with independent doctors. I have a somewhat bad astigmatism in my left eye that I was told could never be corrected without glasses. Dr. Garza put me in toric lenses after my first exam and while these do not totally correct my issue, at least Dr. Garza is willing to talk to me about my options rather than just hand me only one. I did go to the Berkeley Eye Center in Katy in between visits here because it is closer to my home, but I found the services and work ethic there a bit lacking. This one is a bit inconvenient, but it is on my way home and closer to work so I don't have to take off as early. And when I show up for my appointment with either the doctor or optician? There is always someone there to check me in and make sure they know I've arrived. My experiences with the doctors and staff here are overwhelmingly positive. read more

I just don't appreciate how long I have to wait for my appointment. I live 45 mins away and I have to wake up extra early to avoid traffic to get here on time for my appointment. I had my lasik eye surgery done back in February and on that day my appointment was at 9 and I was not even seen until 11 close to noon. Today I have an appointment at 10 and I just got in waiting 10:54 what's the point of having an appointment!!! I just don't understand that. I do not feel appreciated here as a patient!! I'm always waiting. I'm Also on my 6 or 7th appointment and I waited every single time. I work in a service industry and if clients are waiting like this they would never come back. Horrible customer service. They couldn't locate my chart from a previous visit when I went for my follow up visit. After not having my correct prescribed contact lenses for trial I was told it would take 1 day to receive them. After 3 days of no callback I drove there and found that they had them yet didn't inform me. Today I called to order them and got an answering machine that said they would call me back. After 2 hours I called again and got the same message and never received a call back. I will again have to appear in person to get Any type of service. Just wanted to add an update on this review. I recently decided to go in and order a previous prescription of lenses because I was having trouble seeing clearly with the ones I was wearing. When I showed the technician my current lenses and the previous box she told me that I had been wearing the wrong ones the entire time. I always wear multifocal lenses and the doctor prescribed mono vision lenses. This is why I was having trouble for so long. The technician Margaret had told me there would be no charge for replacing them. First, when I went to pick them up the wrong ones were ordered again and I had to come back another time to finally have the correct ones. A few weeks later I was billed for the lenses by their office after being told that I wouldn't be billed because of their error. I just don't understand what happened here. Ive been a patient for several years and it looks like I have to rethink using their facilities. read more

This is a great place to get an exam exam. Dr. Thomas carefully listens and is great at explaining what she is doing and finding during her exam. Brenda Castillo, the eye tech who helped me, also listened carefully and conducted all of the eye tests very efficiently. I like having my eye exams done at a place that is clearly capable of more advanced tests and procedures should they be necessary. This is a big practice, but they seem to be able to use their size to better help patients. All of the staff are friendly. read more

After my exam I went to pick out glasses. I could not have done this without the help of Linda. She provided me with many options and helped me narrow down the glasses quickly. Everyone in this office is pretty amazing! I went for a yearly exam and tests to see if I can get lasik done. (After I researched for a while on this place and others around) LASIK is the best thing I have ever done in my life! I had my appointment on a Wednesday, my surgery was scheduled for that Friday 10:30am. My first follow up appointment was on that Saturday at 7:15am less then 24hrs after surgery and I was already seeing better than 20/20. As the minutes....hours....days go by it's so amazing I feel like I am watching tv in HD just looking at things. I can see so clearly! We are bird watchers and I have seen a bird that I see often an didn't realize how much texture and detail it had. (That was without my binoculars) Highly recommend Berkeley eye center for all your eye needs. Everyone is very friendly and know their stuff. UPDATE: they really know how to fix a problem. They called me to schedule a new appointment the next week, met with the director and have been very welcoming. Bad things happen, is the way you handle the situation that matters and Berkeley Eye Center has been great at that. You will never be seen at the time your appointment is, just get there 30min late. The receptionists are pretty much useless and they will tell you that you are being assisted late because there is an emergency. How can there be an emergency if I am the only person in the waiting area and it's 7:30 AM? That doctors are okay, I went for a contact sipping that was never resolved after city appointment. They would not know how to solve my problem. I will never go back again. read more

I find customer service with the eye technicians to be somewhat aloof, and wait times to see your doctor can be quite long, which has really been a source of irritation in the past. I had Lasik surgery several years ago with Dr. Berkeley and have seen a couple of different doctors on staff since the surgery. For routine exams, etc. I am confident the doctors are excellent. I am just not a big fan of some of the "attitude" of the technicians or the consistently long wait times to be seen by a doctor. However, the optical department staff are very helpful and friendly. Mark Langley consistently goes out of his way to provide excellent customer service with a smile and positive attitude. Buying glasses/sunglasses is always an expensive ordeal, but Mark has proven to be super helpful in assisting me with the types of lenses, frames, etc. that suit my needs, as economically as possible. So I was planning to do Lasik about a year ago. After hearing from a friend and on the radio, I decided to take on the free consultation from Berkeley. I was able to make an appointment within the week. Glenda was friendly and explained every I should know about the operation and the costs. I walked out knowing I need to save up some money and be back. After 8 months or so I called back and confirmed a date for my operation. Jamie on the phone reminded me the pre-op procedures and stop wearing contacts, etc.. Dr. Momeni checked me out and confirmed my prescriptions and asked whether I have any other questions. Never in my time there I felt rush or treated poorly. The day of the operation (3/11/16), Dr. Caplan again asked me if i have any concerns or questions. He took time to explain more about what I already know and then i was taken by the techs to the waiting room. The whole thing was done in about 30 mins, about 25 mins or so are waiting time for the numbing eye drops to work. I am a week after the surgery and I am a little better than 20/20. just a little dry eye but overall feels great. Highly recommended. read more
