My sister-in-law recommended me to this animal hospital and I couldn't say more positive things. My dog fell from the 2nd floor and almost died. I went to VEG twice and after my dog's third visit, I was getting frustrated and not seen. The doctor was so incredibly patient and loving towards my 17 year old Sebastian and did everything to make him feel comfortable. Dr. Marmur is amazing and kind and knowledgeable. The supporting staff at the front desk are amazing and on top of everything which is key to any doctors office. I wanted a smaller practice versus the large vet offices where it is more of a business. This place is the real deal. read more

Our cat had a pea-sized lump on her mammary area. Dr. T. was concerned and told us it could be cancer and gave us a date for surgery. I felt that three weeks out was too long to wait for the surgery, but we trusted her. Yet, I did wonder why they wouldn't have taken a needle aspiration (much less invasive) vs scheduling surgery immediately. On the day of her surgery, we brought Molly in at 8 am. I thought it was odd that we never received a call from the animal hospital confirming her surgery. It turned out that Dr. T. never scheduled Molly's surgery. I also checked if the vets at Berkeley were board-certified surgeons by the VMA. They are not. In the past, we were shorted some prescription pills, and when we asked for the rest of them, we were charged. The business manager said, "This is how we do it!" We decided to take Molly to a specialty animal hospital instead. A needle biopsy was done, showing cancerous cells. Molly was scheduled for surgery within days and is now home resting comfortably. Since we got the cancer early, her prognosis is great! I felt more comfortable with the professionalism of the specialty hospital, and I don't want to put my beloved pets in just anyone's hands. read more

Dr. Marmur performed a spay procedure on my dog. Prior to that, my dog loved the vet we had at our previous location. However, after the procedure, she developed a strong aversion to the Berkeley Heights Animal Hospital but remained fond of the other vet. I found this unusual but continued to go there. When COVID restrictions were lifted and I was allowed in the room, I witnessed a nurse drop a vial and an uncapped needle on the floor and then attempt to use it on my dog. Concerned for her safety, I decided to stop taking her there, although my dad continued to bring our cats to the same place. Dr. Marmur used to sedate my cat monthly/bimonthly just for nail clippings. Frequent sedation is not ideal for cats, and it was distressing for her. After a particularly traumatic experience where Dr. Marmur euthanized another cat in a manner that caused him immense pain, we switched to a new vet. Recently, I mentioned the difficulty we had with nail clippings at the new vet, where my cat would become extremely agitated. To my surprise, the new vet managed to clip all four paws without sedation, and my cat remained calm and still throughout the process. This experience made it clear that the problem was not with my cat but with the approach used by the Berkeley Heights Animal Hospital and Dr. Marmur. This has nothing to do with the office staff or Dr.Marmur. My family has used this facility for 23 years. Four cats and a dog have been cared for by Dr.Marmur. My wife made had an appointment for our dog for a teeth cleaning on January 29th. The weekend of January 25/26 she receives an offer for $50 off teeth cleaning in February. She calls on Monday morning to reschedule for next week to save $50. She is told that they are all booked up and unable to accommodate us in February. How is that? Weekend email and Monday morning already booked? She brings in our dog this morning for his original appointment date, with two days left in January, inquires about the $50 off and is flat out told NO. I do know this is NOT on Dr.Marmur. This is from the new business owner/veterinarian. We have poured thousands of dollars and 23 years of business and referrals into this animal hospital and it has now become so corporate that they seem to prioritize money over everything else, especially customer service. I believe my bill will be between $600-$800 for the cleaning and it was another $400-$500 for his yearly checkup earlier this month. So I find it troubling that after all that I spent they couldn't honor the $50 discount because they did not have any appointments in February. It is sad how businesses are run these days. They care more about the money than the people or animals, I feel. I wish loyalty and repeat business and word of mouth counted for something these days. Don't you? read more

I took my dog in on November 3rd for a dental and to have 4 growths removed and tested while he was under. Before the procedure I shaved out each growth so they would be easy to find. The vet tech also went over all of them with me and marked each one with sharpie. When I picked him up, only 3 were removed. The 3 that were on his sternum. The one I was most concerned about was the one on his neck and they completely forgot about it. They said they would aspirate it a few days later to test it since I cannot put him under again to have it removed now. When I went in, they said it was too small to aspirate and to "keep an eye on it" It was supposed to be removed and they forgot about it. I paid 1700 dollars to have the dental and the other growths that were less concerning removed and tested while they left the one that's on his neck and now refuse to do anything about it. Even if it is nothing, it should be removed since it can press on organs and his throat when it gets larger. But I guess now I won't know if it's harmful or not. read more

I've owned dogs for over 20 years, and I've never had such a negative experience with a veterinary practice as I did with this one. One of the vets performed a procedure that she was not authorized to do, they have trouble keeping staff, so they have people working there that have no concept of how to communicate with clients. They bill you two or three times for the same service, and when you point out all of the above, their office manager gives you an attitude and tries to make it seem like you are the bad guy for calling them out on their incompetence. I'm not sure why others gave this place such positive feedback. I'm just glad that we didn't waste or invest too much time with them... read more

Disappointed... No Communicaton from the doctor nor any call backs. Unfortunately, this isn't just a Covid thing, I've called & emailed several times through out the 2 1/2 years going there. They are totally non-responsive. (My dog was healthy and it wasn't that big of deal then but..) Note: their current protocols due to Covid. You stay in your car while an assistant takes ur dog inside. There is no communication with the doctor. Therefore, I paid for a routine shots but did not address any of my dog's health issues. ZERO stars - they are awful and expensive! I took my dogs in today for their annual appointments - I waited over an hour to be seen (even though I had 2 appointments), the vet and tech continuously called my female dogs males, They brought the dogs in/out of the room to get various vaccines - then forgot a few and had to repeat the process, they double the price of an allergy injections my dog gets monthly and charged me ridiculous fee for these appointments. I can definitely find somewhere less expensive or for the same price that treats me and dogs better - DO NOT USE!!!!! read more

The vet was unprofessional and had a bad bedside manner. She tried to pressure me to have a surgical procedure done on a nearly 20 year old pet (who probably would not be able to survive it). When I told her I needed to think about it she kept pushing even more. Completely disrespectful. The whole experience was unnerving. read more

We have a regular vet that we have been going to for many years, but we like to go to Berkley Heights as a backup. We adopted a dog that had to have been badly mistreated as he still has nightmares during which he screams. Although he has come a long way during the 4 years that we have had him, we still need to be careful and use a lot of patience with him. We have taken him here for a nail trim and they are so nice and really do a great job. We are grateful to have a great option to our regular vet. read more

The vet techs and vets were so helpful, kind, and safe. The COVID precautions made me feel so safe and they made sure that any and all questions that I had were answered. They gave me an appointment for the next day and were overall a great experience!! read more

I brought my cat as a new patient and was told new patient's are given the 1st appointment free. I was bringing her for assessment to get a shot for symptoms of sneezing and a stuffed nose. They made up for the free visit by charging me 100.00 for the shot. They gave her .3ml of the shot based upon her weight - saying that it was 100.00 per ml. First issue was that I should not have been charged 100.00 for a shot that was under 1ml. Dr. Murmur, who has many years of experience, may need to retire at some point. Every single sentence spoken to him at the appointment had to be repeated, his attention span was compromised, he was hard of hearing and his assitant kept having to repeat everything we were discussing. My concern about the the price of the shot which was brought to the office manager's attention was evaded. She did not address or answer my reasonable question about the price accoridng to the amount. I called three days later asking to speak to the doctor about symptoms my cat was experiecing after the injection. I called them first thing in the morning and by 4pm he had not called me back. I called back asking when I might hear from him and was told that he had no intentions of calling me back because I called him "old." I never called him old, I voiced my concern "to the assistant" and office manager that he may be near "retirement" because of the difficulty in communications that I experineced with him, I said it with concern but respectfully. Some girl in a disrepsetufl tone told me to go somewhere else on this day that I called asking to speak to him. They had no concern whatsoever about my pet, they didn't even know yet the subject of my call. There was no ethics, no accountablility on their part to even inquire as to what I was calling about which they didn't even know yet because I had been waiting for the call that never came. I was completely in shock that they could just redefine my words with impunity, not even thinking twice about it, and no accountablility on the doctor's part to even address the reason for my call. The disrepecrful office girl just said "we all heard you." What they heard was my concern that he was coming across as near retirement. They changed my words. Someone with authority - not the girl with the disrepsetufl cluessless disposition should have responded to my call. Unless Dr. Murmur is very familiar with your pet I would not reccomend going to him for the first time. He and his staff have demonstrated the utmost of disrepect and intended manipulation of facts. They will be reported to the appropriate authorities governing their business and their lack of ethics and concern for my pet after having just treated her. This was an appalling experieince. Do not go to this place, they are out of line and dishonest. read more

Berkeley Heights Animal Hospital is the worst! I've been going there for over 50 years. Phone calls and messages left for the vet are never returned. Medications are constantly out of stock. It takes many follow up phone calls to get anything resolved. I will find another vet read more

My complaint is that I've been going there for about 40 years (maybe 3 different owners during that time) and when I called the a couple of weeks ago for appointment I was refused. Reason ? It was an minor emergency and was told by the person who answered the phone that whatever the problem was, they were fully booked for surgery for the next month so I should take the cat somewhere else. Well I did and found a new vet!! He took care of the problem right there in his office in about 20 minutes. read more

We are thankful to BHAH for helping our cat Monkey deal with the stress of moving. Courtney did a great job setting up the visit, welcoming us, and checking Monkey's vitals. Dr. Lyons then performed the evaluation and reassured us that Monkey was fine, just needing some time and comfort to deal with a huge change in her life. Indeed Monkey is fine now, back to being her cuddly and clever self. The only drawback to our BHAH visit was a 25-minute wait (our appointment was for 12:15 and they took us in at 12:40) but we have to believe that's expected for a busy hospital like this. read more
