Checking out the solid mahogany barn doors nearing completion
    Wilson T.

Berkeley Mills was commissioned to build a replica of the solid rosewood barn doors from Rosewood House, as Rosewood House and its custom furniture service retired in 2015. During mercury retrograde, the doors were damaged from a motor vehicle accident hit and run. One of the problems faced after dealing with the emergency boardup was who and where can we find a replacement? When it comes to solid hardwood custom furniture in the Bay Area, who else can you really go to on a professional established level? Berkeley Mills. Price point - $10,000 for a pair of barn doors - was high, but within reason. Measurements on site and CAD design checked out. About a month for build, readiness was a week or two late on delivery eta, not a big deal. If you have timeline restraints, be sure to stay on top of the build. Berkeley Mills was also hired for installation which is where the value is as the squareness, precision fit and function were superbly executed by their talented craftsman. The communication and process between inquiry, design, and delivery, was clear and punctual. P.S. Please don't ever mention IKEA and Berkeley Mills in the same sentence - it reflects poorly on your understanding of what real hardwood legacy furniture is versus pressed glued epoxy veneer laminate college student disposable furniture.

These chairs are sat in perhaps once a month, on average. We have no kids at home and my wife and I are both small people at under 140 lbs each. They are lightly used and absolutely not abused. On Mother's Day, we did use the dining room table. I sat down in one of the chairs and the right rear leg fell off. I sat straight down and was suddenly on the floor. Thank goodness it was me and not my 82 year old, frail Mother-in-law. See the photos below. Upon inspection, there was a knot that created a very weak spot in the leg. Only about 1/16 inch "line" of wood needed to break for the leg to fall off. Most of this leg had a gap in the knot when I bought it. I will tell you that I spent the years 2012-2020 in a lab studying mechanical failure, so I actually know this subject really well. Unfortunately, this business owner will not accept responsibility for a defective and dangerous product. In my view, I should be getting a replacement chair. He's claiming that the chair was leaned back on. It wasn't. The pictures tell the story here. The evidence is very strong. I've only been offered 15% off of the purchase of a new chair. Ummm, no, I'm not giving you another $425 of my money. So, if you buy anything here, inspect it well before you take it home.

It feels like a treasure hunt every time…read more Serena & Lily's aesthetic is so appealing to me -- all the rattan, sea grass, whitewashed wood, capiz and shells; beachy, sophisticated, boho. I can't afford the higher priced items even on sale, but I've managed to get a few smaller effects that have added to my coastal decor in my Capitola home in a classy way. I've always had great customer service experiences at this store. When you see a product you like, you've got to pull it off the floor immediately so other covetous patrons can't grab it -- I've had people tell me they want something I'm holding in my hands if I decide not to buy it; the employees graciously hold my picks behind the counter for me. One time I was looking at rugs and an employee pulled up all the images of the rugs I was interested in for me on the website with an iPad since they can't unroll them for you. Another time I was buying a sconce light and the cashier grabbed me a brand new one still in the box to replace the display model. The inventory changes all the time and there's always a good selection with a lot of cool stuff. Occasionally something might be a little dented but mostly the merchandise is in perfect condition and good quality.
