Just got back from a trip here with my Dad to get his car a smog check, and we had a perfectly smooth experience. I found out about this place through Yelp, and I was so happy to have been able to get the Groupon for this ($29 for the smog check, which is $11 less than the check-in deal that gives you a smog check for $40). I think it's great that you can book an appointment online and that they send you one email confirmation at the time you make the appointment, and then another reminder email the day before you're supposed to come in. I set one for 8:45 am this morning (yes, on a SATURDAY!), and my Dad and I got here at around 8:50. You park your car up front and then head through the door to the left of the open work space marked "Customer Lobby." There are five chairs in the waiting area and a couple outside. Even though you're technically indoors, it's still drafty so I would advise you to bring a jacket on cold days or a bottle of cold water on hot ones. Plenty of magazines available, but the whole smog check took under 30 minutes so don't expect to get through many articles. We were greeted when we walked in and all I had to do was give my name, the appointment time, and I also handed over a printed copy of the Groupon, but I'm sure showing it on your phone through the app would also suffice. The man at the front gave my dad a clipboard and a small form to fill out: Customer's Name Address City, State, Zip Code Phone Email Date Year, Make, Model Vin No License Plate No Odometer Reading After he filled it out and turned it in, we waited about 15-20 minutes and were told that the car had passed - woohoo! It's and additional $8.25 for the certificate, but that's not bad since we got such a deal through the Groupon (a full-priced check is normally $61.70). Since it takes about 24 hours for the smog check test results to register with the DMV, my dad and I will probably finish up the online vehicle registration process tomorrow. We had a great experience and the two Ghirardelli milk chocolate and caramel squares, and two smiley face napkins, was such a SWEET touch. I spent way too much time at the DMV only for them to let me know I needed a smog test and if I passed, needed to come back, wait in line again, etc. My nightmare. I made a same-day appointment at the Berkeley Smog Test Only Center. My smog test was started right on time and I learned that for $25 they'd process my DMV paperwork for me.
