The guy who claimed he was the manager was extremely rude on the phone. My husband brought my car in and the manager turned him away saying it was already smogged last year. That was not true. So a wasted trip as I definitely need a certificate to register my car. When I called to complain for this assumption, he got nasty and said not to bring my car to him. What an a**hole. Service Requested: Smog Test Quality: Horrible, because he refused to do the service Value: Might have been okay had Mr. Cao refused to do the service There were two Smog Test centers I was considering, San Pablo Smog Test Only Center and Berkeley Smog Test Only Center. Both were very close to where I live, but San Pablo Smog Test Only Center, was a little closer, the price was a bit cheaper, though Berkeley Smog Test Only Center has on their website they match prices. San Pablo Smog Test Only Center is run by Asian(s) and being Asian I thought I'd help a brother out. I called their number, and asked if I needed an appointment and to confirm the price out the door including the Smog certificate and tax was $59.00, and I was told "Yes." I drove over there and I met a Mr. Cao, or someone that had "Cao" in their name. He instructed me to wait while he got into my car to drive it into the stall. Mr. Cao seemed like he was having an issue with my car, so I walked up to the driver side door which was open and asked him, "Do you needed any help?" He said he didn't, and was just trying to get the mileage. I watched him press the button to the right of the steering wheel on the dash that clears out the Tripmeter of my car. I use to mileage on the Tripmeter to figure out my gas mileage, and help determine when I need to get gas, as sometime Gas gauges are not always accurate on cars. I told Mr. Cao, that he zeroed out my Tripmeter, and I needed the information to figure out my gas mileage and when to get gas. He proceeds to tell me he needed the mileage for my car, and it's no problem and I should just get some gas and then it will be okay. I told him I understand that he needs my mileage, but if he was having problems figuring it out, he could have asked me and I could have gotten it for him, before he started pressing buttons on my car arbitrarily, and maybe to him it wasn't a big deal, but to me having driven some distance the information was important. He then gets out of my car and refuses to do the smog check. He claims he's never had a problem like this with any customer, but likewise I've never had a problem where the service person couldn't figure out the mileage and zeroed out my Tripmeter, nor ask the customer how to figure out the mileage if he was having a problem determining it! So, no problem, I called Berkeley Smog Test Only Center and Jessie who answered the phone said he would match San Pablo Smog Test Only Center's price, so I drove down the street and got my smog test done and the paperwork. San Pablo Smog Test Only Center gets the one * review while Berkeley Smog Test Only Center gets the five * review! read more

I've been a customer before, and most recently took my car for another Smog check on 09 Oct 2020. They have proper COVID precautions in place - the attendant had on a N95 mask, and post smog check, there was a station for hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. I was the 3rd customer in line for a smog check and i was out of there in less than 30 minutes. And as always, friendly and professional folks. $40 with yelp special. Would I recommend this place to anyone? Only if you lived in the neighborhood and here's why. 1st off the dudes who work here don't communicate well, making things not so easy. I came in maneuvering my car through an array of unclear signs, parked, got out of my car and a dude comes out and says do you have DMV paper? I said Yes; gave it to him. I close my car door walk with him and then get a delayed response of you need to pull up to the back. There are no prices and no communication whatsoever so you'll get a smog and then get a paper and will have to be satisfied with the price. This smog was $49.99 with a so called discount, which I honestly doubt but at that point this was a second visit to the stupid DMV and I didn't feel like prolonging any associated process, therefore I just got the job done and paid for it... end of story. Arrive early to see about getting a smog on 10/09/21 asked the tech if he gives the same $20 discount for repeat clients like 7 Day A Week Smog does in Berkeley. Immediately he says, you should go there they will be cheaper. Dude is a joke. Complete Jerk. Come to find out. He was a few bucks cheaper but I wouldn't use him just because of his demeanor. Horrific customer service. Called and then went there to have my car tested. No one even talked to me when I arrived, an associate just directed me to park my car in the back. After 10 min of waiting in the back not knowing when I would be serviced, I had the nerve to ask how long it would take to wait in line and was repeatedly told to F off. One associate approached me menacingly, shouting swear words at me and telling me to get out in a very rude tone. I ended up leaving and wanted to call the cops. And in the meantime, I noticed other customers driving away while he shouted and swore at me (unsurprising). Minutes later, I arrived at a different place (see my other review) and had a great experience. Plus this place (unlike the place in Berkeley) had no masks for Covid, no hand sanitizers, and no gloves. They do not care about safety of their customers. Avoid this place the plague! read more

My usual go-to smog place went out of business so, on the advice of a friend, I tried San Pablo Smog instead and was EXTREMELY satisfied. I had recently gotten some maintenance done on my car to clear a Check Engine light, which means I then needed to do some very specific types of driving to get all of my vehicle's emission system monitors set properly before a smog test can be done. The technician at San Pablo Smog was very knowledgeable and patient and explained what I needed to do. I followed his instructions, came back the next day with the car ready to test, and passed with no problem! If you haven't had any Check Engine issues, you'd probably be in and out of your test super fast without the level of effort I required, but it's definitely comforting to know the staff here has the experience to help guide you when you need it. Need a story to be convinced? : I had replaced the cadilac convertor in my car and apparently the state mandates stations to report the convertor number. The convertor is in an unreachable part of the engine. I went to other stations before this one and they didn't bother even looking. After waiting 4 hours at the Oakland DMV to be told I needed a smog done, I did not want to do anymore waiting. Girlfriend recommended this place since she been here before. She told told me it was quick. Went here and got an oil change next door first (Pro Lube) and after the oil change, the Smog guy told me to wait on the bench drove my car back around into his garage and 10 mins later, he called me over and told me it passed and handed me my paperwork, paid $65.
