Well, I've tried 'em all, and this is without question the best place I've been to for smog testing. Online appointment made in 2 seconds. Arrived a couple of minutes early and did the paper work with the clerk inside while the technician drove my car into the work bay. Sat down at the taco truck, ordered two delicious tacos, and wasn't even through my al pastor taco, when I saw my car pull out of the bay and park. Finished my second taco, went in and settled the bill. Total time: less than 15 minutes. And the tacos were outstanding. A solid operation; the guys in the shop are friendly and kind, and the division of labor makes the whole thing effortless. They are very rude here. Beware to all Groupon users they treat you very unfriendly. Brought my vehicle here after having it service at the service center. So my computer system was not reading, was informed I would have to drive another 150 miles to get my catalytic converter to read . I return back 2 weeks later and ( my service advisor gave me an all clear) Arrive at @430 and they close @ 530 the guy rudely told me I can't take you today I have to leave early. So I made an appt for the next day. A new guy is there tells me I get $20 off for an appt. I told him I already paid with Groupon and I didn't clear last time due to my car just being service. And he told me it will be an additional $20 to retest. I ask him if they have a way of telling with there machine if a car would fail a test before during when service has been done. ( My Mercedes mechanics said they know before doing the test and they could have told me before but they wanted to recharge me) This guy looked at me like he wanted to fight. This place was awesome. I was having a difficult morning and I arrived 15 minutes late. Due to the pandemic times, I was wearing my mask and so was the technician who was also wearing gloves. He was friendly and efficient. The test was done in less than 10 minutes. For $25 (+ DMV renewal fee) I left with my registration recorded at the DMV, papers and a tag for my plate. Done. great service!! i got a groupon for my car and it was super fast and the worker was super nice!! there are different groupons/prices depending on how old your car is! they are star certified, and for me they send the smog check details to the dmv online but i think you can bring your own paperwork too! keep in mind outside of the groupon/smog check price is a small fee, i forgot what its for but its $8 they take cash and card (they take discover!) they also have a taco truck there so you can eat while you wait! i think you get a free soda if you got a smog cheeck there :) overall 5 STARS!!! you wont regret going here. they do do walkins but i just make an appointment online. its super easy to book last minute, same day appointments so i recommend doing so just to make sure you wont have to wait! read more

Fast, cheap, competent, friendly. What more could you ask for in a smog check? Berkeley Smog Test has become my go-to smog check for my 3 cars. Usually in and out in less that 30 minutes. Guys are real nice here. Get you started with a minimum of paper work. They get on it right away. Nice little waiting are inside with magazines and wifi so the time goes by quick. I usually go out for a cup of joe or lunch at the Westside Cafe (1 block away) and the car is always ready when I come back. Once the wifey's 1994 Camry failed. Online reservation system works great and is worth whatever they pay for that service. Getting DMV registration renewal handled at the counter - can't be beat. I was in need of a smog check through a "Star Station" and actually found them through Groupon. Normally, I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to car related things and Groupon, but the Yelp ratings changed my mind. Looks like they even offer a Yelp deal for the smog check as well! I booked an appointment at 9AM through their website, which was super fast and easy to use. The appointment is confirmed via email and also sends a you a reminder when it comes closer! I actually showed up right when they opened up at 8:30am, and I was able to get squeezed in really easily. The scheduling process was easy and straight forward (online scheduling through their website). We arrived at our scheduled time, and they started as scheduled. We didn't have to wait long for the smog check to be completed. The technician was friendly, and fast! I made a Saturday appointment but arrived 13 minutes late, and he couldn't take me since he apparently accepted a walk-in (due to my tardiness) and had another appointment in 15 minutes. I made another appointment for next week and arrived 15 minutes early and this time he serviced me immediately. He completed smog in less than 15 minutes. Technician was courteous. I bought the smog on Groupon @ $25. As stated in the Groupon offer Center charges an additional $25 for 1997 and older cars + $8.25 for smog certificate. Groupon offer came out to $58.25 OTD whereas their regular appointment price is $67.95 OTD. If you have an car older than 1997 the Groupon price is very fair. If you are smogging a newer car their $49.70 + $8.25 certificate price is high. Center doesn't do repairs for failed smog tests so if you think your car will fail smog it's best to take it to a center which can and offers a free retest. The Groupon offer doesn't have a free retest, and I'm not sure if their on-site price does either. I have no complaints with the service and professionalism here. If Center were able to take me for being 13 minutes tardy I would have bumped my review to 5 stars. It was my own tardiness that forced me to make a second appointment for next week. read more

Under the new management of Damien Rochells, I was very pleased with the quality of service. Reasonable price, fast, efficient service. At first my car did not pass because of cracked air intake hose. This was probably caused by a different encounter with an overzealous and ill-trained oil changer tech hastily checking my air filter. Damien took the time to look up the part and handed me a printout for a replacement part that I could acquire at Amazon. I ordered that part, installed it myself and returned to Damien within the week for a quick re-scan on his computer and PASSED! Hallelujah!
