I hadn't eaten here in years until today. It reminded me of mealtime at Granny's house. Plenty of choices of home cooking. In my opinion, the seasonings were just right - add your own salt and pepper if it's not enough!! My server was very homy and helpful. She's lucky she wasn't serving me back in the day when I could do serious damage to a good buffet. The building is old, with low ceilings, but that's not a bad thing. Real home cooking, and excellent service. The ranch chicken was like your mother used to make as were all the vegetables. I didn't care for the catfish because it wasn't made with cornmeal breading. The topping on the chocolate pie -not meringue - was weird. I will go back. Everything else was comfort food. I will give Loggins five stars. If you're looking for an old fashioned country buffet, this is your place. This is like a trip back to the 50's. The decor matches that era and the food is good old fashioned, homemade comfort food. Fried chicken, whole and fillet catfish, chicken fried steak, baked chicken, chicken dumplings, beef stroganoff, corn bread, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and so on. The food is quite good. In particular the chicken fried steak and fried chicken. Very old school and super tasty. After the meal you get your choice of pie. The price is $10 plus drinks. This is an incredible value for such a good meal. The place is packed with locals. Service is superb. I didn't even know this place was in Tyler because it's is not in the more newly developed retail areas we tend to visit. But I wanted to try something we haven't had. And we were so pleased. All around okay, but not great. Our waitress Maria was hospitable and polite and did a great job. This place definitely has a more homely approach to dining, which is both good and bad. Some of the food ran out towards the end of the day and after I mentioned that a couple items were empty, they asked the two cooks if they would cook more food, and the cooks just gave a tired shake of the head and told us they were done for the day (during business hours, which seemed like apathetic customer service). I wanted to try more of the food I wanted, but they couldn't be bothered to make more. The fried chicken and fried fish were hot and tender and the rest of the food is what I expected it'd be for a $10.95 per person (plus tax) Sunday price. Some of the food was dry and some of it was lukewarm. Probably will go to Luby's in the future if I want traditional dining. But, once again, on the plus side, the service from our server was good. Overall our meal was decent and the free small slice of pie was tasty enough. Glad we got to try this historic restaurant in Tyler, but doubt we will return. read more

The most amazing all you can eat homemade food buffet in the state of Texas, this food is amazing. I live in Dallas but I come here once a month because this food is so amazing. The restaurant is nothing fancy it's old but the people in the food are great. Chicken fried steak is the best as well as their homemade desserts it's all great! Ask for Maria, she's the funniest nicest kindest best waitress their. Went here on a Sunday during lunch based on the large number of 5 start Yelp reviews. It is a seat yourself type of place and we got in without any wait. The place is buffet only and it was 10.95 per person, certainly a good price for a large selection/quantity of food. I was a bit unsure of what some of the buffet foods were, so some labels would have been nice, and the ceiling above the buffet area is a little concerning. It looks like there have been some significant leaks in the past, and there are towels in the vents. The highlight of my visit was the dessert. Know that there are different menu items daily, however I was told that their fried chicken is one of their mainstays. Let me warn you as well that the food is HOT and FRESH! Those cooks kept the buffet fresh and if you get to the buffet and something is gone, not to worry, it will be filled in about 3-4 minutes! The desserts were ok, but the the main foods were so good, they could have just made some sugar toast, and I would not have complained. This place is awesome. We came here for lunch while in Tyler because of the previous Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has been in business since 1949 (originally it was a drive-in and old pictures are located inside) and the interior looks as if it hasn't been updated since it was opened. This is your typical family restaurant, the type of place that you think only remains in small, one-stoplight towns. We came here at 11:30 am on a Tuesday morning and when we walked in we immediately noticed that the place was already packed. It's seat-yourself seating, so we found a little booth and sat down. The service was prompt and friendly. She didn't give us menus because apparently EVERYONE comes here for the buffet and after tasting it, I could see why. The food was extremely delicious and there was a wide variety of things to choose from. I tried (almost) a little of everything, including mini fried chicken pieces, fried fish, mac and cheese, chicken pot pie, sauteed vegetables, loaded mashed potatoes (they also had unloaded), and collard greens. They also had barbeque chicken, several variety of beans, a salad bar, and several other items I cannot recall. Oh, and I can't forget the delicious rolls and cornbread. And by the taste of it, everything was homemade and fresh! We didn't partake in dessert, but on the counter there was a delicious looking array of pies to choose from, including cherry, apple, cheesecake, a cinnamon role, and lemon meringue. And the best part? The lunch buffet was only $8! The ambiance of this place was just a fabulous. I'm pretty sure we were the youngest people in the place, as the place was full of old-timers who obviously knew every single person in the place, including the staff, and obviously had been going there their whole lives.
