Before surgery, my prescription was around -10.00, and even with contacts I struggled to read text on my phone at night. I often needed both contacts and reading glasses just to have a chance. Less than a week after surgery, I'm seeing around 20/25 and can comfortably read even fine print. The procedure itself was completely painless, and the recovery has been far easier than I expected. As amazing as the results are, the real reason I'm writing this review is because of Dr. Parikh. Two days before my scheduled surgery, he noticed something abnormal during my pre-op exam. Instead of proceeding, he refused to do the surgery until I had my eye evaluated by a retinal specialist. Obviously, I was disappointed because I had been looking forward to finally getting the procedure, but he put my safety first without hesitation. I asked if there was any way to get in quickly, and he immediately started texting people in his network from his phone. By the next morning, one of his colleagues, Dr. Silva, was able to see me. It turned out I had a torn retina that needed to be repaired before ICL surgery. After the retina was treated, Dr. Parikh and Dr. Silva stayed in communication directly with each other over the following weeks. I didn't have to coordinate anything--they handled it all. Once Dr. Silva confirmed my retina had healed, Dr. Parikh rescheduled my procedure. To me, that's what separates a great doctor from a good one. Dr. Parikh wasn't focused on getting me into surgery as quickly as possible--he was focused on doing what was best for me. He even made himself personally available by text throughout the process, which gave me a tremendous amount of confidence. The entire staff at Furlong Vision was outstanding from start to finish--friendly, professional, and incredibly organized--but Dr. Parikh's level of care genuinely went above and beyond. I'll admit, I was skeptical when they told me the consultation would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I remember thinking, "What's the point? They're going to tell me I'm a candidate, do the procedure, and take my money." Nope. After about an hour of testing, they told me they **didn't recommend that I have the procedure**. That immediately told me everything I needed to know about this practice. They took the time to explain exactly why. They even identified a slight astigmatism that my regular eye doctor had never caught, although that wasn't the reason they advised against treatment. They explained that at some point in my life I'll most likely need cataract surgery, and when that time comes, I may be able to address everything with a custom lens replacement instead. For now, my natural lenses are still working to some degree, and even though my vision isn't ideal, they felt that replacing them today simply **wouldn't be in my best interest**. They could have easily recommended a procedure and taken my money. Instead, they told me to keep wearing my glasses, come back in a few years, and see where things stand as the technology continues to evolve. I was incredibly impressed with the entire staff and the way they handled my consultation. There was no pressure and no attempt to sell me something I didn't need. At the time, I simply wanted better vision and decided to undergo LASIK vision correction on both eyes. Nearly 30 years later, I deeply regret my decision to have the procedures performed there. I researched LASIK itself, but being young at the time, I did not do nearly enough research into the doctor performing the surgery. I wish I had. At the time Dr. Kawesch was fresh in business and not nearly enough experience as he should. I experienced serious complications involving my left eye. During treatment for those complications, the corneal flap was removed and, according to what I was subsequently told and understood about my case, was sutured back in the wrong orientation. I later developed significant epithelial ingrowth and substantial corneal scarring. The effects have followed me for decades. My vision today is considerably worse than it was when I originally sought LASIK simply because I wanted to see better, and the damage and scarring in my left eye continue to affect me. If I was to lose the sight in my right eye I would be legally blind because of the damage the doctor caused me. Looking back after all these years, this remains one of the decisions I regret most. My advice to anyone considering elective eye surgery is to thoroughly research not only the procedure, but also the individual surgeon, their history, experience, and potential complications. Your eyesight is simply too important.

The team has been very supportive for the past two weeks. They were listening to a lot of my questions and my concerns for the past two weeks. I have been wearing glasses since second grade, and I woke up from a nap after I got home from recovery, and as I'm reaching out for my glasses, I'm like, wait, I don't need this anymore! So it's definitely gonna be an adjustment where I don't have to lift my glasses every time they slide down from my nose, I don't have to have that behind-the-ear pain from the frame that hooks behind my ear anymore, no more foggy glasses when I wash the dishes or when I eat hot, soupy noodles. About two years ago (2024), I noticed my vision starting to decline and contacted the office to ask about an enhancement. I was told my vision hadn't changed enough to qualify yet and that I would need to wait. Fast forward to now, and my vision has continued to worsen - especially my distance vision - to the point where it has begun affecting my ability to drive safely. When I contacted the office again, I learned that Dr. Hyver had retired, but I was reassured that the Extended Care Program is still being honored for his former patients. The process, however, has been frustrating. I was first instructed to see my regular optometrist for an updated eye exam, and then I was scheduled for additional testing at IQ Vision, which I had to pay for out of pocket. I'm not sure why these tests aren't covered under the Extended Care Program, especially since they're required to determine eligibility for an enhancement. I also didn't feel that the subjective refraction performed during my visit today accurately reflected my true prescription. At the end of the appointment, I was told that I might not qualify for an enhancement at all, or that they might only recommend treating one eye. While my left eye is noticeably worse, both eyes have declined since my original surgery, and correcting only one eye would still leave me struggling with the other. It's disappointing to have paid for additional testing without knowing whether I'll actually receive the enhancement that was a key reason I chose this practice in the first place. I sincerely hope this isn't a process where former patients are required to pay for evaluations only to be told they don't qualify. I'll update my review once I know the surgeon's final recommendation. Overall, the customer service has been good. My only negative interaction was when I was leaving after my appointment. Although the staff had already confirmed that I had paid, the front desk employee appeared skeptical and wanted to verify it again while I waited, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Overall: I'm reserving final judgment until I hear the surgeon's recommendation, but so far the experience has been a bit disappointing and costly than I expected, especially given the promises of the Extended Care Program that influenced my decision to have LASIK at Scott Hyver's practice.

I got referred to this place through my insurance and someone from their office reached out after to schedule my appointment and handle the intake forms. Checked in at the desk and filled out the intake form. The pdf e-form didn't get recorded for some reason. I'd recommend saving the file after you've filled it out and emailing it directly back to the staff. Not a big deal, took five minutes to redo it. Consultation process was chill. Just got my eye pressure measured by Faith, a series of eye scans by Carlos, and then an exam by their optometrist, Dr. Tran. Impressed at how comprehensive it was. Dr. Tran measured the range of my current prescription submitted. Just the standard stuff from a regular the exam. Cool witty personality, got through the quick and dirty process real fast. Next, I was walked to another room where I chatted with their patient counselor Jian and Dr. Scott Hyver on a Skype call for about 40 minutes to discuss my results, pricing, and options. Two weeks later, I had a 30 minute Zoom call with Dr. Robert Lin. Dr. Lin was super personable and we chatted through my charts, risks, process, and everything else regarding EVO ICL. While I didn't end up going forward with Dr. Lin and IQ, I had a great experience overall with their team. I'm sure it's a great spot to get your eye procedures done. Tip: check with your vision insurance on discounts. I got referred to this place through EyeMed and they offered a 15% discount. At the time of this review, there aren't any promos or discounts here separate from insurance.

I play a lot of golf and haven't been able to see the ball as clearly as before so wanted to see how my vision was. It was not bad, but was not like before. Well, my vision is 20/20 (20/15 after Lasik). I'll been blessed to have such great vision for so long. Anyways, the Optometrist asked who my Lasik surgeon was and I told him Dr. Hyver. He said that the surgeon did one of the best jobs he has seen for a procedure done over 20 years ago and that's why my vision is still so good. For those interested in getting LASIK or PRK with Dr. Newman, be aware that the Milpitas office is ... sketchy. For one, Dr. Newman himself isn't there. Two, the "used car salesman" that runs the topography tests and discusses financing is REALLY annoying. The French lady was a lot more tolerable, but she was using the same sales pitches. Having the two of them tag-team me felt exactly like one of those time-share scams. (Think hot cop, bald cop.) I'm not exaggerating. My friends are used car salesman. They do the same tricks, including the writing of the prices per eye (inflated from what I saw on Yelp! and other sites), minus the discount from the local news commercial (around $1,000, I believe), and then gives you your LOW, LOW PRICE! Inflate the price quote, inflate the discount, and bad mouth every other LASIK doctor in the area. Seriously? On the bright side, I did get to spend a lot of time with the cute eye doc who did the actual vision tests. She was pleasant, friendly, informative, and did not apply high-pressure sales tactics. There's a good chance I'll still go with Dr. Newman due to the reviews of the people that have actually met him, but I'm definitely going to check out the other LASIK docs first (and see if anyone else has the same admittedly-impressive tech in their lasers).
