This is my second time around leasing a car with Bert Smith. I cannot tell you how much I love Shawn in sales and Alan in service. These two treat you like you're the only customer in the dealership. **Beware of poor business practices** Entered into conversation with this dealership on 25 September regarding a 2018 Jeep Wrangler they had listed for sale. Being a distance away from the dealership, most of our conversation was via text regarding the pricing, availability and details. We came to an agreed-on price for the vehicle. I explained the timeliness of my availability to come pick up the vehicle might be a few days, however, I'd be happy to put a deposit down or even finalize the sale over the phone/email. Salesperson "Zeke" informed me that, since they were a small dealership, they did not take deposits for vehicles and that my pricing was only good until the end of the month to meet their sales goals for the month. On Saturday 27 September, I engaged with Zeke just after opening to inform him that I had taken off work and would like to finalize the sale that day and come down the next day to pick up my vehicle. He replied with a request from the general manager that I send them my full loan approval for the vehicle "vin specific" as well as proof that I had insurance for the vehicle. I finalized my loan, sent the buyers sheet, purchased insurance and sent all to the dealership (All steps you take when purchasing a vehicle). By mid-day on Saturday, Zeke replied that all was good, and he'd see me Sunday morning to pick up my vehicle. Later that afternoon, Zeke texted me telling me they had sold the vehicle after I had taken steps to secure it. This left me out a day of work ($532) as well as out the payment I made to acquire insurance for the jeep ($573). Their response was simply "sorry". I engaged with the sales manager "Eric" to which he did not have the true story from Zeke. I have text evidence of what actually transpired. He left off with me saying he would discuss with the General Manager on Monday 29 Sept to find a way forward. Trying to further find a purchase and make good of the loan I got and insurance payment, I presented Zeke with an option for me to purchase another jeep they have on the lot that would have been at a higher cost to me and make the dealership even more money before the end of the month. **Neither Zeke nor Eric replied to me** For a business that their salesperson went well out of their way explaining how they were a small family-owned dealership who took extra steps to make their customers happy, this seems like very poor business practices and a lack of care for a customer who was out roughly $1000 for their sales games. read more

During our service session prior to the lease buy out, Bill Batten the sales manager let my husband know that they could handle it, even if we had outside approved lending. So we go to Chase and get our pre approval, come back to Bert Smith -- and Bill let us know they couldn't do it unless we financed through them because they weren't going to make any money off us. That's how they do business -- will never do business with them again. We ended up going through the lease buy out process, with Chase approved lending, at Lokey Volkswagen. Brought my car in for maintenance and the customer service i received was amazing. I was able to easily schedule my appointment online. Once i dropped my car off, my service advisor (William F.) went through everything with me on what was included in the maintenance package. They called when it was almost done so I could pick it up without waiting hours. Worst customer service EVER. Needed a simple part for my Beetle, called ahead and was told "yes we can order that for you and it will be $60". Arrived and waited over a half an hour just to speak with someone because clearly I was not in the market to buy a car so they weren't interested in helping me. After I was finally seen they rudely stated they could NOT order the part and that the needed me to bring the vehicle to them so they could inspect it. After they were told the vehicle was not drivable and I only needed this one part to fix it, they insisted I have the car towed to their lot so their service department could inspect it and determine what was wrong with it (for an additional fee of course). Won't be purchasing any vehicles from Bert Smith or using their service department ever again. What a joke. read more

This was an excellent car buying experience. From the selection, staff, and actual buying process it was very easy and organized. Shawn Chayban was our salesman and he was so knowledgeable and friendly (10/10 ask for him when you go in). He truly made this process so smooth and comfortable. This was my first time buying a car so some of the terms and options were foreign. Shawn and the staff took the time to educate me and show me all of my options. They wanted the best for me and my interest/needs and it was clear they were not just trying to sell me a car and get me out the door. If I didn't need an upgrade they didn't push and told me outright it was something I didn't need and on the flip side if it was something that I should consider they would educate me on why it was important and how I would benefit (such as maintenance package and showed me an actual invoice of an oil change and fluid change etc). The color I wanted in the style I selected was at a nearby dealership and they drove it down while I completed all paperwork, detailed it on the spot and it looked amazing. The entire staff was efficient, knowledgeable, worked on getting the best interest rates, financing and deal possible to make me a happy, lifelong customer. I cannot speak highly enough about my experience. There are tons of options to buy a car but finding a dealership and staff that cares about your interest while purchasing and also as important and if not more important- the willingness to take care of you after you purchase the car is hard to find. Bert Smith is that dealership. This dealership was recommended to me by a friend and they exceeded any expectation I had on the front end. Based on my experience today I know they will exceed all expectations moving forward throughout the lifetime of owning my beautiful new VW Tiguan Sel with R Line trim. The reason for the 1 star has been the customer service from the General sales manager and the VW sales manager. Every time I have come in to speak with them, I have been treated very rudely. There was a mistake with the price I agreed to with the salesman and what was on my lease. When asked why and how to fix the issue, I have been given the run around and everyone there has dodged me. After shopping the internet for a new Atlas and dealing with a Tampa Dealer who would take nothing less than MSRP and wanted to increase the price because I was bringing a check from my credit union( they consider it a cash sale) I checked in with our local VW Dealer via the online Website. I received a prompt reply from Shawn Chayban. We text back and forth and he did have the Atlas I wanted but just in a totally wrong color. We text more and since I hadn't actually driven an Atlas yet, he invited me to just come drive it before I go all over the state trying to get a Pure Gray one and I could show him my trade a 2018 Mercedes GLC ( I mentioned I may just sell it outright). I went over and meet Shawn on my 1/2 day off in clothes I do yard work in. Shawn was super courteous, had a mask on and had the Atlas pulled up to the Building so we avoided walking around in the hot sun. He asked if he could take a few minutes and go over the features of the car with me ( he knew I had researched the car and I had a lot of questions especially since it had been about 15 years since I had owned a VW. Shawn had researched the car I was looking at in Tampa and told me the exact things this Atlas Didn't have. Come to find out it was only 1 that I would have really used. Test drive went awesome, we went back to the Store and they QUICKLY worked up numbers for our trade, Talked about the trade and again QUICKLY came back to me with a proposal and yes they discounted off the MSRP. Because of the my Partner and I both really wanting a color change ( last 3 cars were white) we wanted to talk it over tonight because the color was just not what we wanted. The word PARTNER OR HUSBAND never phased him ( as it shouldn't anyone since it's 2021) and we talked a few more minutes and I was off to think about driving another darn white car...LOL After going to one more dealer in South Bradenton to see one in Pure Gray, it was obvious in my mind and opinion that when I mentioned my Partner things changed. They asked why wasn't SHE here and I said I'm sorry HIS name is Tate. I was very put off with buying another car and seriously just considered waiting or just going and spending 25K more on a Mercedes GLE because I knew the Dealership and was comfortable with them. It's 2021 and these things just shouldn't happen. The next morning Shawn texted me and after some back and forth I asked to drive it again. I went in and everyone that walked by that worked at the Dealership spoke and said hello and were friendly and this didn't happen in Bradenton. We went on a quick test drive again and I said Ok lets get this deal done. From that point I don't think I was in the dealership more than an Hour and 10 Min. The Finance Manager came out and asked about my Credit Union paperwork, a few minutes later he called me in the office and In a super short amount of time I was done. Shawn has the new Atlas pulled up, helped me pair my phone to the Apple Car Play and helped me put everything in the new car. Moral of my long story: Being in business myself, Shawn and Bert Smith did business like I do and treated me just like everyone else. I will actually say I was treated better then when I purchased top of the Line Luxury Cars in the past from Mercedes.
