Well that couldn't have gone any better! After two straight days of temperatures around 100, the compressor on my AC unit went. I called Guy up this morning and was lucky to be fit into what I'm sure is a busy schedule. Guy gave me an ETA, diagnosed the problem quickly upon arrival, and was extremely thorough in making sure everything was working well. Within ten minutes, my house was back around 73 degrees from a sweltering 80 before he arrived. All fees were upfront, honest, and very reasonable. This Guy is amazing.. In a frantic, on a night that was to be below 20F I called him (stickers work) to explain i had reset my wifi on my HW smart thermostat (new router) After is configured wifi, all the sudden the air blows cold only, and I mean icy cold air. I was losing a degree every few minutes. He was calm as can be and suggested a video chat to walk thru thermostat settings, and was the very first setting I had changed a number accidentally when trying to find the right code to reset the wifi. My AC stopped working on Friday night and it was about 90 degrees out. Saturday morning, I called a few companies most of which did not answer or could not get me a appointment for a few days. I found Best Air heating & Cooling on Yelp. I called and talked to Guy. He asked me to examine my unit and asked if I saw any ice. I did, And he instructed me to immediately kill the power to the unit. And he would be over in a couple hours. Me (half asleep): It feels cold in here, does it always feel this cold in the morning, I don't remember it being this cold in the morning ::looks at thermostat:: What the fork?! 58 degrees?! What is Recovery Mode?! Why won't the heat click on?! Me to husband: I know it's early, but we need to talk...I need to be somewhere and tried everything I can think of, but the furnace is F'd - you're it! As I headed out the door, I reached out to friends for recs and turned to the Yelps, we needed the furnace situation fixed and fast. Husband called them all and Best Air Heating & Cooling, our Yelp find, was able to come out quickly. Turns out our HVAC, which we assumed was new when we moved into our house was not, it was more like middle-aged. That was the good news, the bad news was the seller replaced the igniting mechanism with the wrong part and it finally shorted out the circuit board. Best was a dealer for our HVAC brand and able to replace both parts immediately; they also told us about a few other items that might fail in the future. I rarely do reviews, but had to this time to share with others how Guy came to the rescue after I was victim to a very orchestrated scam by another HVAC company who tampered with my furnace, removed the schematics panel in order to make me believe that I needed a new furnace. Guy came to my home in Irving Park on two separate occasions. He fixed a blown capacitor in my AC's condenser in April and an inducer motor in my furnace in November. He is very responsive to calls and texts, even doing so outside of office hours. He was able to tell me where to find information about my system over text messages. He got everything done quickly and efficiently and everything has been working perfectly ever since. Never did I ever feel misled or pushed into making a decision I was uncomfortable with. WOW! Experiencing a POLAR VORTEX? RECORD setting cold? No problem! Guy, of Best Air Heating & Cooling, will be your LIFE SAVER. A tenant in one of my Albany Park properties text me at 4:30pm on Tuesday, 1/29/2019, telling me the furnace was making a horrible noise and only holding 58 degrees in her garden apartment. The forecast for the next day was showing Chicago turning into Antarctica (colder, actually) with -21 degree weather (and -46 in windchill). I called my regular heating and air guy and left a message. By 8:00pm I had no answer... so I began panicking (glad I did). I jumped on Yelp and found Best Air Heating & Cooling. Guy (the owner) answered the phone on the second ring and got me on schedule for the very next morning! Talk about prompt service! So I offered to get my tenant a hotel for the night. Guy was slotted to come at 11am in the next morning. He showed up early at 9:45am (in the FRIGID cold) - and called to let me know I had a real problem on my hands. He asked me to tell all my tenants to run their faucets and showers (so the pipes wouldn't freeze over while he worked). Guy then replaced the blower motor and inducer motor on my furnace; saving all the pipes in my building from bursting. He even gave me a new flame sensor & filter on the house (since I had spent a good chunk for the repair). His prices were fair. Service prompt and trustworthy. And he saved me in a time of need. Best Air Heating & Cooling, owned and operated by Guy, saved my butt today! Guy is a hero! The middle of the night on a sub-zero day in January is probably the worst possible time for your furnace to die. Guy picked up the phone at 7 a.m., was at my place in less than two hours, and he had everything fixed before 2 p.m. (including a quick tune up of the machine). I couldn't be more grateful for his honest assessment of the problem and efficient work. $140 (one hour of Guy's time) for an evaluation, diagnosis and estimate-under these circumstances-is not only reasonable, it's CHEAP. Paying Guy for his time retrieving parts to fix an emergency situation is also completely fair-if I had had time to wait, he could have ordered the part for me and performed the work when it was delivered to him (without the cost to him in working time). Not only did Guy never try to upsell me on needing a new furnace or performing extra work, after looking at the machine, he told me it was otherwise in good shape and should last for several more years. Single best HVAC pro we have ever used in 18 years. Super communicative, prompt, and professional. We reached out to him on a Sunday over Yelp for an AC issue. He was at our house in a few hours (other HVAC companies never even responded). He found the problem - fixed it and even came back the following weekend to perform 1 optimization for our system. That was good enough, but check this out. While at our house, he not only fixed the AC, but also checked our heater and fixed a long standing problem with the wiring and made sure the heat was ready for the winter - he did this unasked. Yelp does it again. Left my house and my A/C was working. Came back home about 3 hours later and it was not. Of course it happened during one of the worst weeks in Chicago, when it was 90-100 degrees all week long. It was late when I got home that Saturday night. I turned on some fans and made the best of it. First thing Sunday morning, I scrolled through Yelp, looking for a place that was open or with an emergency phone number. I came across Best Air Chicago. I knew it was a long shot -pretty early on a Sunday morning, about 7am. I called and left a voicemail. Guy Hakverdi, owner, called me back in about an hour. He explained that he was out of town, but could come by tomorrow. I was so appreciative that he had great follow up, I decided to wait it out. I went to the pool, the movies....anything to stay out of my house! The next day, he arrived on time, as promised! He didn't even have the exact part, but was able to rig it with a spare part to get the A/C working again! The next day, he stopped by again while I was at work and switched it out to the correct part. His services were super affordable and he was just an all around great guy. I like to have some idea what is going on and I was up on the roof with him, and he explained everything to me that first day. Nothing like someone saving the day when your house is over 85 degrees! I don't like giving companies especially small businesses poor reviews, but feel I need to put this out there. My furnace started acting up on a cold weekend. The furnace turned on, but would shut off before hitting the set temperature. After calling multiple places who didn't take weekend calls, Best Air fortunately said he'll take me the next day with a $200 service charge. Thought it was a safe choice given the 5 star yelp reviews. He arrived on time. Problem was that the furnace was getting too hot triggering a safety that shuts off the furnace to protect the furnace from overheating. His solution was to replace the safety with what he called an 'adjustable' safety which allows the furnace to continue running until a higher temperature before shutting off the furnace. I'm not a furnace expert by any means but this immediately set off alarm bells. Safety limits are put in place for reason. I expressed my concern that it was not a safe solution as it would hurt my furnace and that I wanted him to fix whatever was making the furnace overheat too quickly. He did admit it was a band aid. He told me the advantages and disadvantages and assured me it will cause no harm. He also said the only other option would be to replace the unit. I wasn't satisfied but again he assured me that my heat will reach the temp I wanted. I thought to give him one more chance to redeem himself and asked him if it made sense for him to come back to fix the root cause. (Was getting the sense he wanted to leave) He said there is no need and gave me his card to call him next season. The heat did stay on as he said, however, I had another company come out to fix the root cause. Fabian and Son - I've worked with them for years and I know does a good and honest job. They came and right away said that the part that Best Air used installed should not have been used because it doesn't sense the heat as well as the manufacturer recommended part. The limit was also pushed higher than the recommended limit. It was basically a band aid as I suspected. Fabian and Son fixed the the root issue by increasing the speed of the furnace blower. This change cooled the unit by 20%. Seems like an obvious fix. Not sure why Best Air didn't think of it. In addition, they replaced the safety back to the safety Best Air removed since it was better for the unit. The guy from Best Air was nice, but didn't seem like he really knew the in's and out's of how a furnace works. He also had trouble explaining things. Based on his 5 star reviews, it looks that he has impressed people. I will give it to him that he fixed the immediate issue, however, it would have hurt me in the long term by reducing the life of my furnace. read more

My AC stopped working in my new condo and I can't believe the level of efficiency and professionalism and ethics not to overcharge me. He got to the root of the problem immediately and changed out the filter. Then while inspecting the unit outside noticed all the debris from the construction which was also clogging up the outside unit. He found the original installer (sadly past warranty and done before we moved in) had not installed a particular piece. The air conditioner unit for our office space stopped working. I called another contractor who looked at it and told me the compressor was shot and the unit needed to be replaced For thousands of dollars. We called Guy to help our rented unit that was being serviced by another company that couldn't continue on their work with us. He came into a difficult problem in the middle which is always a tough situation. He was able to diagnose and fix the problem in a couple of days. He took time to speak and explain everything what was going on and how to make sure it doesn't happen again. This review is long overdue. I had been using the same heating & a/c company for over 25 yrs. This past October my furnace kept malfunctioning even after my heating company replaced the sensor switch, the gas valve & finally the mother board. Furnace was still failing to operate & all the other company could say was " I don't know". I found Guy on yelp based on his reviews. He returned my call almost immediately & said he wouldn't quit until he found the problem. As He loved to problem solve. He came out & spent a lot of time inspecting the entire furnace. Also my furnace is located in an attic crawl space & isn't easy to maneuver. Guy believed it was a faulty sensor. The very first item my own company replaced. Guy phoned the manufacturer while here to get an original part sent out. Once it was received he showed me the difference between what my old company installed and the genuine replacement part. It was easy to see that what was installed was jimmy-ridged to fit. I have now lost faith in my original heating & a/c company & will be using Guy going forward. He was always been upfront about the cost of service and always kept me updated on the status of my appointments. My furnace has been working wonderfully ever since. I was happy that he was able to fix my unit rather than recommending a new one even though my current unit is 19 years old. PLEASE do your research first before considering this business. Generally, I like giving positive reviews since I am a big supporter of local businesses; however, I simply cannot promote this business. I am a first time landlord and my tenants called and informed me that the pilot light for the water heater keeps going off. I called around and Guy happened to be the only one whose availability matched my tenant. He informed me that his hourly rate is $140 which I was ok with since I needed resolve this quickly for my tenants. He showed up at 1:00pm, spent ~10 minutes and then told me that the thermopile needed to be replaced. It will cost around $280, including labor and material. Worst case scenario, he will have to change the gas valve to the water heater which he quoted $800. He said he didn't have the part with him so he needed to go get it. I paid the $140 for his diagnostic. He called 30 minutes later and said that the found the special thermopile...$90 He showed up again around 3:00pm, changed the thermopile and told me that it's the not the cause and he needed to now change the valve. Again, he said about $800. I agreed because I wanted to resolve the problem and I don't want to inconvenient my tenants. He was finished at 6:00pm. So the actual time he spent in the condo fixing is ~3 hours. On phone, he told me that the material cost for the valve was $300 and $90 for the thermopile. I asked for the copies of the receipts: thermopile $33.56 and $212.56 for the gas valve. His explanation for charging me so much was that he started working for me from 1:00pm...so apparently his hourly labor includes DRIVING TIME TO GET THE PARTS. $940 Seemed so excessive to me so I did some research. I took pictures of my water heater and the valve and sent them out to 5 other places for quotes. The lowest quote I received (JNT Mechanics) for valve replacement was $350 ($175 for part and 2 hrs of labor), $1200 to replace the entire water heater including installation, labor, and material. The most expensive quote I received for valve replacement was $550 (My Guy HVAC)including parts and labor. So as you can see...HUGE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE. Looking back, it was totally my fault for not researching first and just blindly agreeing to whatever prices he provided. He gave out his price and I agreed to pay...so that's on me; however, I do not like that he lied about the prices of the thermopile and the valve on the phone and charging me for labor just cause he didn't have the parts and had to go pick them up. So please take pictures of your water heater and send them out for quotes first. Lesson learned. read more

The hottest week of the year and of course both of my units break down. Texted these guys and they were practically already on their way over. In 25 minutes they were here and ready to fly through everything. Super friendly and efficient. I've seen worse prices for less work. Cleaned out all the filters and took apart the outside units to clean and replaced the covers. Guy also noticed my basement sump is clogged and will need to be repaired, so good on him to call attention to it despite them not dealing with plumbing. 2 hours of work and I was texted the exact filters I'll need to buy to replace. Also taught me what I need to watch out for and the things I'll need to do in the future to keep everything maintained. Just an hour after they left, I can already feel it cooling down! I'll definitely remember this company to use again in the future, and I would very much recommend them to others. read more

One of the worst thing to come back from vacation is to enter a steamy house with a broken air conditioner. We had called and so many places were busy and booked and even recommended other places. We did get a quote at another place as well, and figured to try to get an idea of what a range of cost should be. It was luck or fate that Guy answered the phone and said he was available that same day to check out our air conditioner problem. He filled it up with freon at first and replaced the seal, but it went out again the next day. We contacted him again to arrange an appointment for a replacement. He also price matched what was quoted from the first place. He came with an assistant and got the job done in 6 hours. Guy is definitely who he says he is - Mr. Fix It! He goes above and beyond by doing the extras of checking out all the vents and tightening screws and cleaning them. He even showed me the old coil and how bad it was. I like how he scolded me for not replacing the filter as regularly as I should be. He also told me about issues that I might foresee in the future and let me know he can do the tune-ups for me as well. We have been sitting cool ever since! I would highly recommend him. read more
