BEWARE! I thought with the 5 star reviews that this company was a sure shot. Wrong. So Alan came out on an emergency call for my furnace. He was over 30 minutes late for our appointment but I let it go. (I shouldn't have!) I told him my tenant told me that the heat isn't heating up to temp (it was stuck on 59 and wouldn't heat to above that) and that there was a scratching metal sound when we turned on the heat. The only good thing is that he fixed the metal sound. The bad thing is the heating problem wasn't entirely fixed. He cleaned my flame sensor (which I told him I did myself 2 weeks ago...it's not hard to do!) But he did it again. BTW, you can only clean it so much before you rub the filament off it and it goes bad...WHICH WAS THE CASE! Anyways, the heat worked temporarily but late the next day, low and behold, the heating issue was back. I called him and told him that and he agreed to come out the next day. This is where everything goes arwy! I paid him $220 for the first visit and since the heating issue was still happening, I didn't expect to pay for the 2nd visit because the problem isn't resolved. He opened the furnace door back up and I showed him the sequence that was happening. We replicated the issue and then he saw the light code. Gas flames go out and the board flashes red then green, red then green. He looked at the code legend on the back of the door and didnt know what '1 hour lockout' meant. THEN I EXPLAINED TO HIM what it meant and he just called his friend who knows 'all things Nordyne'. His friend said to check the thermostat. My 2 year old Nest thermostat that I had professional installed by my trustworthy HVAC tech (who happened to be sick last week). He moved a wire around and then went back downstairs. Then he left an alligator clip and told me if that doesn't work...how to put the alligator clip on the board to bypass the thermostat. If that worked, then my thermostat is bad. So he left AGAIN and sure enough it still wasn't heating up. I tried the alligator clip thing and still nothing. Nice try Alan. What a scammer! He didn't know how to solve my heating issue! So I called him back later that day and told him the hack didn't work. He agreed to come back the next day. At this point, my tenant unit hasn't had adequate heat for 3 DAYS. I called him back and cancelled my appointment with Alan because he wasn't getting anywhere towards solving this issue. I also asked for a 50% refund on the money I paid him since the issue wasn't resolved. He then said he did fix my original issue of the metal banging sound. I reminded him that it was 2 issues, the sound and THE FURNACE NOT HEATING UP! Come on man! Don't play games with me! He still refused so I ended that call. Luckily my trusty, go-to HVAC guy from SGH Heating came the next morning and replaced the flame sensor. He also looked at the wires on my thermostat Alan moved, then fixed something on my circuit board and said I was lucky he didn't fry it out! Another thing that goes to show you Alan didn't know what he was doing. My heat is back on and working but not thanks to TCC. Beware! It's hard to find people that know what they are doing. This was a fairly easy thing to troubleshoot so I would be wary of using TCC! Also, Alan wasn't professional. During the 1st visit, after he finished he placed his business stickers all over my appliances. He didnt ask permission and by the time I walked back down to the basement, he had them all on. Kind of sneaky if you ask me. (See photos) During the 2nd visit, he called my furnace 'a headache' and 'a piece of garbage'. It's a 4 year old furnace man! My uncle who was here for the holidays and has been doing this work for 30 years came and noticed he did nothing on my service either. Called for an emergency repair on the weekend of a dead blower on my furnace. They arrived within an hour of my initial call, and had the furnace back up & running within a few hours. Price was very fair and much cheaper than competitors quotes. Technician was very personable and readable with his recommendations. DO NOT BE FOOLED. I decided to ignore other reviews on this company and bought a deal through Amazon Local. The reviews I read claimed the company was flaky and did not return phone calls in a timely fashion, routinely showed up late to appointments, etc. After considering all of the above, I pulled the trigger thinking that as long as the service was decent, I could deal with the other minor inconveniences. I played a bit of phone tag with the company, before being asked to go online to submit a form before they could set up an appointment. I thought to myself, sounds a bit lazy... not wanting to take my information over the phone that is... but no big deal. I submitted the form online, and they called me back a day later. On my scheduled appointment day (2 weeks from the date of purchase), I received a phone call from a 773 number. Since it was already past the start of the allotted time window, I assumed it would be one of their techs telling me he/she was outside. Instead it was a representative of the company stumbling with uh....uh.... uh... we're not going to be able to come out today. In response to my question of why, I was told that their systems have been down and they didn't have my information. When pressed, the man told me that their power just came back on and they are only now aware of the appointment I made two weeks ago. After taking a day off of work for this appointment, I pressed further due to irritation. Me: "so are you telling me that the storms two days ago knocked out your power, and therefore you didn't schedule someone for my appointment prior to that?" TCC: "no, we didn't have your appointment info then" Me: "what do you mean, I scheduled this two weeks ago with you. And was forced to go online to enter my information, so that it was in your system..." TCC: "I'm sorry but we're not going to be able to come out" Me: "You know, I had read reviews about this. I found the pipes behind my boiler leaking in two places. To get a quote from Tabor, I had to reach out at least three times -- perhaps I should have stopped trying then, but the owner/estimator cited family emergencies. Worse, when I accepted the quote, I managed to get him to schedule to do the work at least twice, but both times he didn't show. The first time, he cited another family emergency but promised to reschedule and thanked me for my patience. But he didn't show up for the repair as scheduled the second time. I am sympathetic to family emergencies, but it is imperative that he (as many other contractors have for me) communicate up front when he can't do the work, especially on a heater in the middle of the winter. He certainly shouldn't string customers along. I can give him the benefit of the doubt on the reality of any emergencies, but it doesn't help me accommodate other another contractor if they have an emergency. read more

Brief summary if you do not want to read my rant... DO NOT GO WITH THESE PEOPLE... They will waste your time and they can't diagnose anything. They have no idea what they are doing and the owner is a piece of work. He is way over his head. He texted me that I owned them $510 even though my A/C still wasn't working... In what world does that make any sense? Let me just start by saying the company owner and his employees are the most unprofessional people I have ever worked with. Not only do they not come on time, they rarely show up and never tell you if they will show up until they are there. They also lie and not anything small either. In my example, they were hired through HWA which is a warranty I pay monthly for. They came out and diagnosed the issue. I had a previous tech come out and they said it had a leak. It needed to be rebraided and recharged. Easy enough, I told Jackson my technician at the time that came from Tabor's about the previous findings. He said there is no leak and that I will charge the system. He told my HWA that it my HVAC system was improperly installed because it did not have an air dryer cartridge. Due to what he said my warranty would only cover $750 and the rest would come out of my pocket. I agreed not know if he was right or wrong, I mean he is the professional after all. I was dead wrong. Once they got cleared to perform the work, Jackson added a new air dryer cartridge and from what he said he added sealant and recharged. I got an invoice for $510 but my HVAC would not go below 74 degrees and it would take forever to get there. It was working way harder than before. I told the technician that and he said it was fine and closed the claim. My A/C went out 4 hours later. I called him again saying it went out. He seemed upset and said he would come out the following day. He never showed and kept me waiting. I called and texted but nothing. When he did pick up at 8:30pm, he said he was too tired and would come out the following day. The following day came and same thing. This time he said he's engine was sputtering due to him being low of gas and will not be able to make it. Yet he calls me 15mins later explaining how he is going to hook me up. When I asked if he made it back to the shop ok, he said he was home. Doesn't make sense if you're running out of gas. Anyways he comes back a few days later and re-diagnoses the problem. This time he says there is a leak but he can't fix it because it is a manufactured braise. I've never heard of the in my life and I have done HVAC before. He called his boss and he tell him not to do it but to do "whatever it takes" which to me sounds like make it work for 30 days so it's out of our hands. He processes to add an ungodly amount of Freon without using a scale mind you. My A/C starts working again but same situation, only cools up to about 74 degrees, so I bring my concern up to HWA, they say they can't do anything because the claim is closed and I would have to take it up with them. So I call the owner and explained what happened, he did not sound like he wanted to help and he even texted me saying I owe them the $510. So I hired 4 seasons to actually diagnose it. They said that the schradar valve was left loose and caused the leak but there might be other leaks. Also that the unit I currently have has a built in air dryer cartridge and that Tabor did not have to add one. Meaning that they completely messed up the claim and everything could have been covered. I brought it back up to the HWA and they said they still couldn't do anything. I called the owner of Tabor back and told him the situation. He said he would send Jackson back, which I did not want because he can't even fix a ham sandwich. So the owner said he would come out. He missed the two appointments and finally came the 3rd time. I would assume that he would be somewhat apologetic, but no he was super rude and walked around like he didn't have a care in the world. When he checked out the unit, he tried to tell me it is because the unit is old. I live in a condo. Everyone's A/C is the same age and I've never had a problem until now. Then he says I will put sealant in it and refill. I told him that Jackson already did that. He called him and Jackson says he never did that..... SO WHAT DID YOU DO THEN. So the owner said he would come back the follow day which was yesterday. By 4pm. I call him at 4:30pm and he tells me he's busy with someone else and he will be there at 6:30pm. I call him back at 7:48pm and he said that is with another client because they installed a brand new unit 2 weeks ago and it went out. I LOST IT..... I have been without A/C for over 2 months.... And also how bad does it look that you guys can't even install a new system. Overall the worse company I have ever dealt with. I would never want anyone to go through this. read more

Bought a Groupon for an AC Tuneup. Played a bit of phone tag, but I got an appointment and the technician showed up on time. However, he told us our a/c was about the give out and had to be changed immediately and gave us an insanely high quote on a new one. He then "forgot" to plug the unit back in, making us think it had broken. Luckily, we called another company who plugged it back in and gave us a much more reasonable price for the new unit. Problem solved. If you do use them, keep a close eye on what they're up to. read more

Alan from TCC Mechanical was able to come out the day our AC broke down and got it up and running on a Saturday evening with a new fan capacitor and a Freon top-off. His call fee was a bit cheaper than another service provider I've dealt with, but his Freon was about $10 more/lb. I figured it was a wash and proceeded with the repair. His parts prices seem pretty much industry standard - I didn't feel abused by mark-ups, and he weighed the Freon canister in front of me before and after he filled the AC unit, so there was accountability and transparency around the process. The air was running dry and cold when he stepped out of the door. When there was a follow-on issue with the compressor two days later, he was very responsive and came out again in the evening to look at it. As it's an older unit, he recommended a booster for the compressor. It had begun to thunderstorm at that point (he says he doesn't go on ladders in the rain - totally understandable, he's a family man and has to take care of himself!), and he didn't have a booster in his parts kit, so he made arrangements to come back the next day for the installation. In doing some research that evening, I found that many HVAC pros feel AC units would do well to have booster units whether newer or old - they reduce wear on the compressor, but they are under-utilized. Why tell a customer to get a $100 accessory when you could sell them a new AC unit? That Alan did go that route with us, and only charged the house call and labor fees for the initial visit/repair, exhibits the quality of his service and character. Our home has a Nest thermostat, and I asked Alan if he had experience dealing with them, as I've read about some people having issues with them burning out their AC's. He said that he did, but during his repairs didn't actually have to deal with ours - I fiddled with it for two hours on the phone with Nest support before he arrived at the house, so it had been ruled out as the problem by that point. Just wanted to share this with any Nest owners out there - I can't speak to Alan's knowledge personally, but I can speak to his honesty, so I don't think he was blowing smoke up my skirt! All-around, I would say that Alan is a competent, responsive, and trustworthy service provider. The next time I have an HVAC issue, I won't hesitate in calling him. read more

So this company thinks it's ok to run freon lines across a walkway in someone's backyard..40 years of no tripping hazard now there's 3 feet of copper lines across a sidewalk.. They lied about not being able to move the a/c unit as well.. Saying it couldn't be done.. Anything can be done, they took the easiest and cheapest way out.. Absolutely no respect for the homeowner.. My warranty company was able to get these guys out to my house the next day when everyone else was taking 3 - 7 days to come out during a freak cold spell. I had already had 3 other guys to my house. One threw his hands up and said he couldn't fix it and the other two thought it was the igniter. One of those guys disappeared and the other was way too expensive. Alan came out (extremely personable guy BTW) and spent a ton of time trying to figure out the real problem in a very unassuming way. He thought it might be the igniter but he also thought it could be the circuit board so he returned (at 8 PM the next day) with both. Turned out it was the circuit board. read more

I initially came into contact with this company through a Groupon that I purchased for an AC tune up. As promised, they came out and check the unit, only to tell me that it would eventually go out (which I already was expecting). He worked on my unit for hours and even came back for a second time to try and rectify the issue that I was having with the unit. Sometimes fate steps in and guides you to someone who turns out to be a Godsend. This describes Allan Tabor. Initially met him when furnace was not working properly and my husband gave it a quick fix. I reached out to Yelp and that's when I took a chance and called this company. He came out quickly, even though it was working by the time he got there. I must note he got here in about two hours after the initial call. Fast forward about three weeks later, furnace problems again did say we needed a new furnace) it was an absolute cold day and furnace went completely out. Called Allan again and even though he could have put us off, he came that day also within a few hours. We were freezing. I explained the problem on phone, he knew exactly the part needed and gave a rough quote. He appeared again and fixed this ole thing and reminded us that we did need a new one. Yes, he is right and when we can afford one this will be done ASAP. Long story short, I did not feel he robbed us for the work, time and energy he put into repairing this furnace. I feel he is honest and forthright and will not sell anyone a bill of goods.. LOL.. I picked TTC Mechanical from Yelp after reading the reviews, praying that I would get a reliable professional heating technician. I hired TCC Mechanical to severs Two heaters and one boiler n Oct to ensure that they were clean and ready to run for the coming winters of Chicago. I paid for two thermocups to be replaced and boiler to be cleaned. One month after TCC serviced my boiler I had an inspection of the units and was informed that the boiler had not been serviced, there were wires left hanging, it was dirty inside and out and the blowout valve was frozen shut, and there was no indication when it had been serviced or by whom. Most professional heating and air service companies place a sticker with a date of service and by whom. I have since hired a professional heating technician that cleaned and replaced the blowout valve. I would not recommend this company to anyone! Since posting this review I am now being harassed by the owner of TTC Mechanical, with threats of court and claims of trying to destroy a Black Man! I Have received 12 texts from this man, and I have warn him I would post another review if he continues to contact me, but he just doesn't get it. I honestly think he a very unstable individual if he can't handle a honest bad review. I am only stating my experience with this company, I wish I could have written a better review and not have to pay another heating company to do what TTC said they did.
