My hair is thinning and I have a receiving hair line. I still like it long on top and short on the side. This takes a well skilled artist to achieve this look. Even though I had the worse experience in this barbershop some days ago I left a review in order people don't get trick on this scammer's and also give to the manager an opportunity to improve the horrible quality of the services they offer because they know about anything but costumer service and cut hair, as I expected after seeing cero bad reviews right after getting the worse beard cut I have ever had in my life time the answer to my review from the Manager was questioning the date and time I posted my review... what a circus is this place!!! so for the manager is more important the time and date I left the review than taking care of the quality, professionalism and costumer service of the bussines he is in charge of.... maybe he/she got mad because I posted the review while he/she was sleeping and wasn't able to delete it on time. this says much more about this place than thousands of words from me describing how bad is "BEST BARBER" barbershop... clearly the best only is the name.... I've been coming to Best Barber for probably 8 years or so and it's been great but I had a really bad experience there today -- I complained about it when I was there but I don't think anyone cared. So I'll write about it here, which feels like sort of a last resort. I was exhausted today and generally feeling a bit under the weather so I called at 4:30 and tried to reschedule my 6 pm appointment. The young guy at the front desk (a position they seem to refill every six weeks) told me there were no openings at all until Friday, so I should come in today. I told him I always picked "any available barber" and would see anyone who had a free spot and he said they were all fully booked until Friday, so there was nothing to be done. I know this place charges a no show fee and didn't want to end up getting charged for my haircut if I didn't go, so I showed up for my 6 pm appointment. As I'm sitting there, a young male customer walks in and says to the young guy at the front desk "hey sorry can I reschedule my appointment for tonight?" They flirt a little bit and lo and behold suddenly the front desk guy says there are openings tomorrow and the next day, and is very flexible and friendly. The young customer made a new appointment, no problem, and left. After he rescheduled his appointment I went up to the desk guy and told him I'd tried to do the same thing an hour earlier and had been told it was impossible. He made a face and kind of brushed me off, saying it must have been a misunderstanding. The barber then came out and saw I was annoyed and said it would be no problem to reschedule, but at that point I told him I was already there and just wanted to get my haircut and leave and not come back. Anyway it was just a shitty and kind of belittling experience. For the first time since I started coming here it felt like there are different rules and different levels of customer service depending on what you look like or whether the front desk guy want to flirt with you. Which is sort of a Hell's Kitchen cliche, I guess, but I had never encountered that here before. I've given this place a lot of business over the years, and have referred a number of friends to it, but I think I'll find a new barbershop because the vibe this time was kind of shockingly exclusionary and Mean Girl-y and terrible. The haircut was fine, in the end, but it was not worth the toxic vibe. read more

"Can I help you?" is how I was greeted. I take a second to respond. It's a great question. I need a personal trainer, maybe life coach, private chef, and my handy maid isn't that great anymore. I'm Here for a 12pm appt, I tell him. It could have been my tank top, my baby hipster beard, my comfortable Birkenstocks, or my distressed hairstyle I was coming to get fixed. I gave the guy a 10 dollar tip and he said "oh, thank you." As if he was surprised I would give him a tip. I've been going to Boswell, the owner at Best Barber for the past 5/6 months - he's consistently given me the best haircuts I've had. My hair gets curly when it's long and TBH a lot of stylists just don't know how to handle it - not Boswell, he gets it right every time to the point where I always have people comment on how good my hair looks (maybe that means I need to go more often). Longtime neighborhood resident who was looking for a new barber for 2017. After reading mostly positive reviews on Yelp, I went to their website. I liked that you could schedule an appointment, so I chose my barber and a specific time. I was going to get a new cut, to correspond with leaving town on a business trip. When I arrived, the receptionist could find no booking for me. I explained I had booked online three weeks earlier. He took my name and went in the back. When he returned, he explained that he could "see the booking didn't go through". I understand that an online error isn't the Shop's responsibility, but the solution was I could come back another time. You told me you saw what I attempted to book. Yet no apologies or immediate solutions were given. I could come back another time. Period. End of discussion. My first impression of this shop was horrible. If this is how you treat a customer whose booking you can see was attempted, I don't think I would ever want to return. Went in on a humid, miserable day to get 8 inches of hair lobbed off and my beard trimmed to really change my game. Danicia was excellent--took bits off at a time and checked in frequently to make sure I was comfortable with the drastic change. Talked me through the styling and what to expect as my hair adjusted. And trimmed my beard to make sense for my face versus other barbers who were dead set on making me look Saudi. The joint is impeccably clean, with payment by Square and tipping by cash or Venmo. Ok. I may be a little biased in this review but regardless it's still about the work/service, right? I met Greg, the groomer (because that's exactly what he is), through The Color Purple on Broadway. He was our barber for the production and I would see him on a bi-monthly basis for shape ups and maintenance for the show. Once my show closed and was no longer required to maintain that specific haircut, I later made an appointment online to see Greg which sent me to Best Barber for a new fresh cut. I showed him a photo for inspiration and he took it to the next level and personalized and tailored the look that worked best on me! He's a master at the fade and with a blade! Great guy! The barber shop itself, minimal in its decor with the exception of a white neon lighted sign in the entrance, still seems to feel relaxing. Maybe it's from the complimentary cocktails they offer! I have been to Best Barber twice now and I have been very impressed with the décor and ambience of the barbershop, all the staff seem very professional and friendly. On both occasions I had my haircut by William. On the first occasion I quickly noticed that he wasn't really friendly, but I came to get my hair cut not make new friends so I was ok with that. What I did find a bit strange was that he constantly criticized my haircut from another premium barbershop in the Hell Kitchen area. On the first occasion the haircut was very, I explained I was letting my hair grow and he listened and cut it the way that I wanted. I thought that I had found my new barber. Two weeks later I was back sitting in William's chair. He didn't remember me and this time I noticed even more so how my attempts to make conversation would be shot down with one word answers. Again I explained that I was looking to let my hair grow longer on top so I just wanted the back and sides cut and maybe a small thin out. . . . When he dried my hair post cut I told him that my hair was very short. His response was, you should have stopped me. He then immediately turned to the other barber to begin arguing with him because supposedly the other barber had bumped into him. He then turns back to me and said I cut this as you requested, short and the front and longer at the back.(What???). I was in a rush so I didn't have time to argue with him, I paid and give him and tip and then left. Later that day, after I had a shower and dried my hair I just realized the extent of how bad the haircut was. I had been growing my hair for months; all of the length was gone. Not only is it that all the length is gone I now have buzz cut that I last had when I was 16. I paid for a $60 haircut; I got a very bad $16 haircut and a bad attitude. Over the last two days I have had several comments about my 'buzz cut' or 'military style haircut'. read more

He cut just the right amount off to get my locks looking healthy again, then took the time to shape it with some subtle layers. It looks fabulous! I have had many bad haircuts in the past, but this one definitely beats them all. After waiting for 30 mins past my appointment time, they decided to cut my hair without putting into consideration any of the requests I had mentioned prior. Somehow I ended up with an uneven haircut, and anything but a smooth fade. I would only come back if I knew for a fact that the person cutting my hair was for sure good. They didn't even show me the final result after finishing. I spent a lot of time thinking and decided to not mention the name of the person who cut my hair just because I blame the barbershop as a whole for hiring someone who isn't good at cutting hair.
