I came in looking for an Apple genius after Apple gave me this store as an option to service my cracked screen. This might be one of the only times I've ever had to walk around looking for someone to help me instead of the other way around. I meandered to the back where it said Geek Squad and asked about where I could find an Apple genius. The guy was untactful telling me that it was the car area. I don't know the ins and outs of Geek Squad and he just was t helpful. Then when I tracked down a guy near the Apple products he told me go to Geek Squad near the checkout. So I did that and told the Geek about my appointment. To which he told me they don't replace the screens there, don't even have parts for it and wasn't sure why Apple let me make an appointment to have it solved at this location. I've worked in retail for more than 20 years and used to be able to say that Bestbuy was one of the better places to shop. They used to have great service and inventory that exceeded expectations. Over the last several years, the experience has gone downhill. It's difficult to find product, when you try to find an associate to help with that, they're nowhere to be found, and if you escalate up the chain, management has just a little care for the customer experience as the line level employees. Best Buy- I'm honestly surprised they are still open. But people like electronics and our options are limited here. I have come here several times before, and the past 5 years or so the customer service and the direction they are headed with cutting out things they are focusing on, is not good. The last time I was here (Black Friday I might add) the store was full(6pm Friday) and I literally saw three employees with blue shirts. One at the cash registers, and two people helping on the floor. Two people!! Not to mention the three guys in black shirts watching the doors so you don't steal. I wanted to buy AirPods but nobody was around to help me. Nobody manning the apple section, the computer section, the tvs, the appliances, nobody. So I left. Then I ordered them online. They have been delayed three times and it's been two weeks now. I hope they get here by Christmas at least. Their customer service is almost zero how do they even function as a store if their online services are also so bad? Not to mention the bare shelves(on any given day not just Black Friday) and the beat up state of the floors, shelves, and walls. I am interested in the LG NanoCell TV's one step below the super expensive OLED LG makes and 4X Better than the UltraHD 4K TV's ... I opted for the BestBuy Visa Credit Card. Took an extra 10 Minutes to go through the app and get approved. On top of how quick it was, when I went in store the 75" TV's were $100 less than what they were showing online! I saved another $200.00 by going to the Magnolia Counter in BestBuy. This place is filthy. Dust everywhere, product laying on the floor, dirt on the products, one would think they don't bother cleaning at all. Customer service is autistically socially awkward. A sales rep bumped into me, I said "pardon me", to which he replied "of course". Product prices were well over the top for items that should have been much less. Best Buy on Dimond has to be the worst customer service store I have ever seen. I try to buy things local but the workers at this store don't get a darn. I actually needed to get an item off an upper shelf. After asking for help and waiting around for 30 minutes, I pushed over the big ladder and climbed up. and got a microwave off a high shelf. Somehow the employees wondering around didn't care if a 70 YO was up on a ladder doing their job. If Best Buy wants to be profitable they need to find a manager that can clean up this mess. read more

We made a specific trip to Best Buy in south anchorage to look again at a specific surround sound system for our home and to look around at a few things. First we stopped by the cell phone cases and had trouble finding them for our specific phones. One young man asked if he could help with anything and then when asked, he was unable and tried to find someone else, with no luck. He was polite, but we never receive any assistance in that area. No biggie really. We moved to surround sound systems; we have been looking at a very specific one for more than a year now, but wanted to check everything out. One very specific speaker wasn't working and we asked for assistance. Unfortunately after the gentleman fiddled with the system it was in worse shape than before. I'm not really sure what he specializes in within that specific department, he wasn't able to answer any questions during our time there without trying to read a box or look it up on his phone, which we had already been actively doing. Don't get me wrong, he was trying to be helpful and was polite, however went weren't getting anywhere with his assistance. The prices were higher than most other stores we had checked, or spot on, however Costco was WAY cheaper on 3 of the 4 pieces we wanted. Along with that, there was an additional mounting bracket in the sound bar at Costco, however we would have had to pay an additional $50+ for the bracket there. So, we decided on the one component they had and went on our way to pick up the others elsewhere. We saved more than $250 by going elsewhere.... and we're happy that we did our research. read more

I went into Best Buy just to get a fire stick for the TV. It's for an elderly woman. I will admit I did not know much about fire sticks or that stuff. Apparently nor does anybody else at Best Buy? I asked for help from somebody who knew fire sticks. I was sent to see somebody in that section and they sent somebody over to me that said they could explain all about them. They were more clueless than I was. After helping myself online figuring this out, I finally got a fire stick, and went to go check out there was one person at the cash register and a whole line of people waiting. All we could hear was employees in the back grab and laughing giggling playing really loudly. You could hear it all the way out on the floor. I know it's mostly just a bunch of kids that are working there however they don't know what they're doing. This is the second time something like this happened to me the first time I came in with a computer question had to make an appointment With the computer people on the counter and I finally came back from my appointment. They couldn't help me because they didn't understand how memory worked on a computer. And the guy told me that he doesn't even know why they put him in this section because he's not a computer guy. I told him you're in Tech Repair how could you not know how to repair the Tech and he just simply answered with shorthanded so they needed somebody back here they grabbed me and put me here, but I barely know how to turn on a computer that's what the kid told me. Best Buy has gone so far downhill it's pathetic. unfortunately, I was forced to leave and go to Walmart and the funny thing about it. It's good for last-minute purchases...but in a world of rapidly-falling electronics prices and rapidly-shipping online retailers, does Best Buy still serve a purpose? Many things are INSANELY cheaper to buy online: memory cards, cables, all the stuff they try to get you to buy along with the big-ticket items. For big items with expensive shipping, like TV's, I supposed BB still has its place. I've been to this store a couple times and the staff were very nice and helpful. In my college years I would go to BB multiple times per week and almost always be ignored. That's one advantage of getting older I suppose, people think you're looking to BUY some stuff, and not just grazing. I mainly came here to see an OLED TV up close and personal (not really impressed, probably because the video feed into it was sub-par) and to chat with the employees about electronics, they knew their stuff! read more

More competitive prices with much better return policies are available elsewhere- maybe a few days wait for shipping, but worth it. I came down here a few days ago to look for any bargains on TV Shows on DVD and Vinyl Records. This Best Buy is one of the anchor stores in the Dimond Center on the east end of the mall close to the movie theater in the old Safeway spot. This location is a little bit bigger square footage wise compared to the N. Muldoon location. The parking lot however is more condensed and packed throughout the day being connected to the mall, making a space by the entrance available only by chance when coming in from Old Seward. The employees here are more helpful and approachable here rather than at the Muldoon store. The only consistent problem I have with both locations is the lack of stock in the TV Show area of the DVDs. The last couple of times I was here, there were empty shelves on a mass scale even though there were current sale tags for the new releases that come out on a weekly basis. There are some good deals on TV seasons for $9.99, but most of the available ones are located in a bargain bin in the middle aisle going towards the High-Def TV section. These are lesser known older shows or newer shows that have been canceled after one season. The newer shows that I found on their weekly Sunday flier that are being sold at the same price are usually not in stock and if you wanted to purchase one, you would have to wait for the next shipment to arrive or order it online. There is a limited selection of Vinyl Records in their audio area. There are some decent classic rock, jazz, and Top 40 selections, but they never go on sale. The average price varies between $20.00 to $40.00, not exactly a bargain for older albums that can be purchased for a fraction of the price on CD. You're better off finding vinyl albums at a cheaper price at either Title Wave Books or Obsession Records off of Lake Otis and Tudor. The only time I considered purchasing vinyl here was when the store would e-mail me a $5 or $10 discount coupon based on the number of points I accumulated on my Best Buy card. Still, this is a good destination to stop in once a week to find $9.99 TV shows that originally sell for $19.99 or $29.99 retail and these shows change every week on Tuesday. read more

The few times I have come into this store, I am met with indifference and a 'why did you bother me' attitude. I have also not found the few employees to know simple answers to what I am asking, or looking for. They don't know what products they sell, or say they don't carry it and then I show them that they do, but it is out of stock and they could care less. They just try to get you to buy something else. Another time I came in to get a phone, they weren't too interested because it was 8 pm. at night and they wanted me to come back the next day instead, so they didn't have to work too close to 9 pm., the closing hour. The phone system is garbage. They purposely make it so you cannot ever get a 'live' person online. They force you to go through several steps, hoping you will hang up. They even say in one of the recordings that "no member can give live inventory information" etc., in other words they are instructed NOT to help you with anything. The online website is garbage also and ran by chimps. You input a search word, or words and it will invariably show you products distantly related to your search word, or nothing related to it and almost never what your were looking for, This is done on purpose. You can't just get a direct result from any search, it is always filled with other items you don't want, or search for. I only go to this place when I have no other option and because I have to have the item NOW, to get something working, or going - computer, battery for a camera, etc. I avoid this place to the point I now only go there 1-3 times a year and even that is too much. Still get crappy service, or no service. read more

As far as knowledgeable about electronics, Best Buy employees do have it down. However, that's all the positive things that I can say about the store. I hate their restocking fee which making return/exchange process a pain. If they get rid of that, they would have more businesses in my opinion. We came on a Monday but the store was swamped with customers. Their employees admitted that was a bit unusual for their store. As we walked around, nobody cared to assist us. I finally sought out two guys in blue that were just standing around and asked for some help. One of them showed us to the iPad stationed, asked a couple questions and just walked away because we had no clue which model we needed. I guessed we wasted his valuable time. As we did some research on the internet about different features that would suit our needs the best, another employee approached and offered us some real assistance. He was friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about the products. He singlehandedly handled three different customer groups. After quite a wait (which we don't mind too much,) we found out that the iPad we wanted were out of stock. The sales guy spent a TON of time answering our questions and helping us figure out what cables we would need for our peripherals. On the phone you tell me that there are 3 items available and then when I get there you tell me that sometimes remotes just "walk away" or get stolen? Last time I checked remotes do not have legs and 2nd, if three remotes get stolen within 10 min of me being on the way then obviously your security department is not doing their part.
