If I could give a negative review I would. I went in mid week and bought a dryer vent tube. I specifically asked for a metal hose. The salesman did not let me in the store, and I had to wait outside in the cold. The salesman came out flexible hose with metal liner (a $40 dryer hose) and said vent diameter are all standardized. I specifically asked 2 times if this will work. After being assured 2x it will, I bought it. This weekend I find out it's too small. I called today to ask if I can exchange for next bigger size and the salesman said they cannot help me. "All sale final, sorry". The phone call became aggressive and defensive. I the K Appliance employee assured me I'm at fault. I quickly told them this isn't going to be an argument (even though I felt like it). I felt incredibly taken advantage of. While I can afford to "tip" this small business $40 - not everyone can. I usually attempt to leave good reviews but I believe this small business gives other small business bad reputation. I believe K Appliance should stand behind their business practice. They are either appliance experts or they are not. I was deceived into buying a simple $40 dryer hose that did not work. The experience was terrible. I called and told them that the problem with my oven was that it wasn't heating properly and that it would most likely be the temp sensor. Asked if they would have the part with them and was told they would after they verified the model of the stove. the guy shows up with an igniter and tries to mansplain to me that he thought it wasn't working right and that was his guess for the part. He took the oven apart and lo and behold the igniter is working but the temp is incorrect. After ascertaining that the part needed is indeed the temp sensor he proceeded to tell me that they don't have that part in stock and they would have to order it and then charge me for another service call to replace the part that they should have told me they would not have in stock. in addition to the above, the technician wasn't even going to put all the screws back in the bottom of the oven that he took out until I called him on it! The tech also did not bring any diagnostic tools with him to the job. He had to ask me for my oven thermometer which I had bought to troubleshoot the problem. He also did not have a multimeter to be able to test the temp sensor. if I could give a negative review I would. Sigh..... After 35 years of singledom. ( doing my own laundry in the washing machines I purchased. ) I, apparently, being a man, don't know how to do laundry. So, I haven't washed my own clothes in over a decade. So, I was noticing my clothes weren't as clean as usual. I'm happily married. Don't criticize the chef or clothes washer. I've used k appliance for decades.....3 at tje least. I've had experiences with very nice anf helpful to not very nice....but still helpful. They know their stuff and have parts and pieces that cant be found easily, if at all. Im giving them 4 stars because they moved and I couldnt find them today. I said flat (i did not know that all three prongs weren't flat.. wasn't wearing my glasses and did not know what to look for.) $75,00 and no return, no exchange.. but much argument over how myself, Harold's Electric and AK Appliance Installers were all wrong and how the packaging did not read what it read. Would have given it zero if I could. Short story: in moving, I misplaced the charger cord for my Norelco shaver. Had to go out of town for business. Stopped in at K appliance and purchased one - $24.95. I did this knowing that I could go without, and that I could buy it online for $5.49 and no shipping. I really try to support local business, especially family-owned. Went out of town, used once, and it would not work. Get back home 10 days later, find my original charger and all is good. Went back to K for an exchange, intending to keep it for a back up. Even though it was new and would not work, they told me it was nonreturnable, period. I will never return. So couple days later I brought the vacuum in again they said they can order the part but it would be a different color . I asked th'em how come I payed money and never got no call . They couldn't answer the question- they said they d call the manufacturer again - couple hours later they called and changed the story saying the manufacturer don t make that part again ! I provide the Part number only to get a box that says 'replaces part number XXYZ' and it doesn't work (wrong plug) and they wont exchange it for the correct part- which he now tells me can ONLY be found by looking up the Model number (funny the part number came off the part on my washer) you have to wonder what kind of racket he's running. I took my vacuum in to get a part. After making my way thru the dirty store I was sold a part that was "Absolutely" the right part. I brought it back the next day because it was the WRONG PART. They would not refund my money, but said they did not have the right part but would order it for me and get it right away. Well, now the part is overdue.... UGH! Save yourself time and a lot of $$$ and order the parts yourself. I like keeping my business local, but not when I get treated like this. I highly recommend K Appliance. I have used K Appliance for over 40 years! It is a local, family owned business. Andy, the owner for the past 12 years, is very knowledgeable and competent, and responded to my request immediately. I have used K Appliance twice in the last month and was extremely pleased with the results. The first visit was to fix the burners of my gas stove top. Some of the igniters weren't working. He recommended replacing them all and now I have a new stove top that will last for many years--the rest of my lifetime I'm sure. The next visit a month later was to fix the fan for the stove top, which had jammed. Andy came at 6 PM on a Friday night, as promised, and fixed it in about 2 minutes! Also asked him to fix an expensive hanging light fixture and with a lots of ingenuity and expertise he got it done. I needed a HEPA filter for my vacuum cleaner and a vacuum filter and could not find the parts online apart from ordering from Sears, which shipping would be doubled the items. K charged me $25.00 for the HEPA filter and $15.00 for the vacuum filters (pack of 2), totaling 40.00. Now that I have purchased the items and have the part #'s, I see I can buy the same products for $4.00 - $10.00 each online (plus shipping) If you need something and cant find online go to the store and ask to see the items but don't buy them! Take photo of packaging or write the items down and buy online or elsewhere in town. I cant imagine what they would charge to service a vacuum!!! DONT GO HERE! BUYER BEWARE!! read more

Not a fan. First be prepared, parking In the parking lot is a challenge. There are deep ruts and an ice ledge at the curb to conquer before you can visit the dimly lit store. They may have the part you need though so it may be worth the bouncy ride to park. In my case they had a part on hand and for that I gave them two stars. One star simply because they are 'open' and the other for actually bringing the part from the back. Earlier I had quickly found the dryer handle I needed online but preferred to spend my money locally. I had found the part online quickly for about $10 including shipping. I was will to spend under $20 locally. After you negotiate the intersection traffic and travel the bouncy parking lot, expect to walk through crowded shelves to the back of the store to a small window with a counter to get any help. Plan to wait at the tiny counter awhile while the folks there finish their conversation. I had the part with me and a photo of where the part is located on the dryer door as well as the factory part number. After we talked about the part and I showed them the part and photo they went to the back of the store. I shared I hoped to buy the part locally. When they returned with the part they tossed it on the counter. I asked if it was the correct part or a part that was universal- because while it looked similar in shape I noticed the part number on their package was a little different than mine. I also noticed a sign hanging above the little window. On the sign was a notice indicating no refunds or returns. The person helping me offered no response they simple looked at me. I broke the silence by looking closer at the part some more, flipping the package around until I could read the sticker price. The sticker price for the part at this store was a whopping $39. I shared I had seen the part @ about $10 including shipping online. They stared some more. I pushed the part across the counter toward the person who tossed it there. They were surprised when I said no thanks adding I couldn't pay 4x the price I had found online. Adding the store online verified it would fit and would allow me to exchange the part if it didn't fit or return it if there was a defect. K Appliance sort of shrugged and walked away from the little window with the part in hand. So before I started my car, or faced the difficult driveway, I thanked the store generally, speaking in the direction of the window and around the store as I looked for another employee. The people in the window had begun talking again to each other, there work done. As I exited the dark retail environment, I pulled my phone from my pocket, paused long enough to realize my screen was illuminating the dark ceiling, and clicked 'purchase' on my phone. I drove over the ice ledge to enter traffic again happy I had afforded a local company their opportunity to do business, but also happy because I was able to buy my replacement part, recognizing this would not have been the case a few years ago. I would have had no choice but to buy from K Appliance. Four days later I received the part for $5, shipping included. - and the part fit fine. I gave the shop two stars because at least they had the part, or did they? I'm still not willing to spend $39 to find out. read more

Their attempt at making a repair put my daughter and her friends life in danger! Stay away!!! My daughter broke the GFCI plug of the fan for her outdoor bouncy house. My wife brought it to be repaired instead of adding it to the "honeydoo list." They said they could replace the GFCI plug for $69 after my wife told them she could buy a new fan for $75. 3 weeks later we pick up the fan and K's appliance replaced the GFCI plug with a normal, $2, plug and charged us $69. We explained how the repair was unsafe for a child's outdoor toy and they told us that they didn't have any GFCI plugs in stock and that we wanted this unsafe repair made. We told them they could keep their $2 plug and asked for a refund. They refused. What a bunch of crooks! So, I had amazon send a GFCI plug, $16 total, to our house and it took me 5 minutes to take off the $2, unsafe, plug and replace it with a GFCI plug. read more

I am an Anchorage resident of over 25 years. I recently needed a hinge with a spring for an oven door. The oven is a Whirlpool and is around 4-5 years old. The guy at K Appliance wanted $109.00 for the part with shipping included. Before going to the shop I found the part on a Whirpool/Sears website for $37.00 plus shipping. I was hoping that K appliance MIGHT have the part in stock for $47-$57 dollars. That would be reasonable, but $109.00 ??? I went home and ordered the part from Amazon for $40.00 with no shipping charge. Okay, it is not a big fancy Appliance store. It is very crowded inside, with items that are not marked down, and are sold at MSRP. This can detour you from buying products of a large nature there, BUT.........I have been up here for 13 years, and believe me Alaska is not the place to have something break, snap, melt, or just not run anymore. The reason is it will take forever to get replacement parts up here. And expensive. The reason for the 5 stars is two-fold. About six years ago, Jenn and I were in our townhouse, and as a stove, we also had a jenn-air grill. Man that sucker was cool. Grilling steaks, chops, fish was a breeze and healthier that pan-fry, or baking/broiling. Anyway the jenn-air grill tops, gave out from wear and began to fall apart. A quick call to Jenn-Air Company...A mere 125.00 for the grill tops, plus 53.00 Shipping and handling. I was told to try K. aplliance....guess what...they had them...up here! Price 85.00! Cool...but then we bough this place, and I lost my Jenn-Air....:( Recently though, we burned out a Vacuum Roller Brush on our vacuum. Since Mt. Redoubt is going to blow here soon, we thought we had better be ready. Just for the hell -of-it, I tried the other "supposed" vacuum repair shops in town, all I got was a "Huh"? One call to K. Was in the market for a vacuum for a restaurant. As we like to support local business, we visited K Appliance on a Thursday afternoon. Upon entering the store, which was dirty and crammed full, was greeted by an employee. We told him we were in to look at backpack style vacuums for a restaurant, that we were replacing an Oreck Professional model. He showed us a couple of them. After trying some on our back and debating, we decided we really needed a vacuum with a beater brush to really get the carpet cleaner. The employee showed us an Electrolux Commercial brand. (By the way, while we were looking at things, two other customers were at the counter talking with another employee. For some reason, the employee shouted at the customers "I have a headache!!!!!". Those customers then left. It was odd!) Anyways, we inquired about the reliability of Electrolux and if this model would be good for a restaurant. The employee told us it would be good, and that he has never had to service an Electrolux, other than replace a belt. We decided to purchase the $400+ vacuum. We tried it out the next day, and were very unhappy with the results. It didn't clean the carpet as good as our old Oreck! Ugghhh! We went back to K Appliance that day (one day after purchasing) and told the same employee it didn't do the job and we wanted to return it or exchange it for another kind. He said no way. He said he wouldn't! WOW! If we would have purchased this at Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, Walmart etc, they would have gladly accepted it back! So much for supporting local small businesses! 'Let the buyer beware' or 'a fool and his money are soon parted'. Should have remembered both but after hearing from multiple people that this was the place for odd appliance parts, I went in and showed the manager/owner the grease screen for my microwave. He returns from the back with two screens nearly the same size and says they are universal fit so I paid 4 times the price at Lowes thinking I was getting the right size and I ordered 14 speciality rubber plugs ($3 each) for my stove top grids that were on backorder but due in the next day. When the screens didn't fit and I tried to return them, suddenly his ability to understand English evaporated and he pointed to the "NO RETURN ON PARTS" sign. The little rubber plugs had arrived and I paid a hefty price for each one but wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Guess what happened when I got home? YUP - they didn't fit either. Apparently this scam artist will sell you anything to get your money and get you out the door. You would think they would get the fact that people coming in to their store will come back after they have a good experience. I bought a belt for my vacuum cleaner and it was the wrong one (My fault). I did not open it and he did not want to exchange it for the correct one! He said there would be a restocking fee!! Finally he relented and gave me the right belt, but not until it got a bit heated on why he would not take the new one I bought and give me the one I needed that was right behind him on some hooks. When both were picked up at different times, neither were repaired properly. I live in Wasilla and did not take the product back on either occasion. I can tell you, I was charged heavily for both of the supposed repairs. I am certain when they collected my money they knew the appliances were not repaired. They have fixed my fridge, oven,washing machine, and dishwasher (after it chewed up and melted an army man,[six kids, you know]!). My cousin paid way too much at Sears for an extended warranty on her washer and dryer. The washer broke down. She waited six weeks and was doing her laundry at the laundry mat and Sears still hadn't come. I kept insisting she call K Appliance. Finally she called. They came the next day, fixed the machine inexpensively and years later she sold her house with both machines still running fine! They get our highest praise! read more

Horrible experience. I told the repair man that the pump in my washing machine was clogged and needed to be cleaned out. He said the pump wasn't working and I needed a new one. I told him it sounded like the other three times this had happened to me and the other guys came and cleaned out the clog, no new pump was needed. He wouldn't even look at the pump, and actually said, they'd come out for just $85? So, I called ACE Appliance and they listened to me, pulled a bunch of stuff out of the trap and the pump worked like a plumb. SHAME ON YOU K-Appliance, for not doing your job. read more
