I wasn't expecting to come in here on my visit, but I am sure glad I did. My visit was during the holiday season and I was just out browsing around. When I came in here I was surprised to find a couple of things in here. I went ahead and got myself a security camera, mostly so I can spy on my cat when I am traveling or at work. And I was able to pick up a doorbell as a gift. because of it being the holiday season, there was quite the sale on these items and that made me happier than I expected. However, when it came to checking out here, it took forever. And I quite nearly went deaf waiting in line. See, they appear to not have any overhead music, so this store opted to use one of their bluetooth speakers, connected one of their phones, and blasted music throughout the store. This wouldn't be bad, but when the speaker is where you have to wait to be checked out, it's kind of annoying. And then the registers had employees that worked like sloths. They went so slow that it made me a little deafer. Security here was a bit much as they are overbearing at the door. read more

When I needed help, I spoke with the bald man at the front of the store and he came over to assist. A group who had entered AFTER me was able to use their privilege to catch his eye, and he immediately LEFT ME, mid sentence, to help them, and referred me to someone who barely spoke English and didn't know what she was doing, so I had to reexplain things to her. When I mentioned this to him, he advised that he's the manager and had "other things to do." It is not required to be a Mr. Bojangles to manage a store. That is a choice. Those other people were not going to die if they waited five minutes. On a previous visit, some idiot asked me to smile before he helped me find a charger. I'd just returned from a funeral. SUMMARY: I have been using Best Buy for about two decades now and the quality of its service and products has ABSOLUTELY TANKED in the past two years. My most recent computer from Best Buy started crashing more and more often without explanation (they later told me it was because of hardware issues, but I replaced those and the issues would later continue). The price for getting individual services when Best Buy's computers fail is ASTRONOMICALLY COSTLY, so you have no option but to sign up for an expensive membership, which you continue having to pay for even after they COMPLETELY FAIL to help with your computer, and in fact make it worse. BACKGROUND: I brought the computer into Geek Squad just after it (predictably?) broke down outside the warranty but before I'd even had it for 2 years. The Geek Squad staff were rude and did not know what they were doing. They held my computer for over a month and recommended I buy hundreds of dollars worth of replacement parts. They kept sending me messages saying the computer was ready for pickup when it was not, and I had to travel an hour into the city to find out the computer was NOT ACTUALLY READY. I even got messages saying that if I didn't pick it up, THEY WERE GOING TO "RECYLE" IT, which based on my later conversation with them appears to mean SELL IT OFF FOR PARTS AND KEEP THE PROFITS, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I was absolutely stunned. I got the computer and it worked for a few weeks before the exact same problem came up. I took it into Geek Squad again and they kept my computer for another month, sent the same HARASSING and ERRONEOUS messages, and convinced me to buy hundreds of dollars in more hardware to fix the issue. After all that, the computer still didn't work. I asked them to refund the money I had spent on the first round of hardware purchases and THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME WITH THE REFUND I WAS OWED. I showed up to get the computer and at first they told me that they had taken parts out and I could leave with those parts but would need to put them back in myself. Again, this was after receiving messages that my computer was ready and (in fact it was "functioning perfectly") and threatening to scrap it without my permission. I waited for hours because there was no one there at the time that could put the parts back in (even though customer service I said I could show up any time to pick it up), until they finally said they were mistaken and those were not parts of my computer. I took it home and when I tried to plug it into the monitor, I realized a huge set of parts WERE MISSING and I had nowhere to plug in the HDMI, which was now gone. I bought a converter to plug it into a USB and when I went to turn it on it was impossible to log in. I asked them how I was supposed to log in after they had changed my password and I received NO RESPONSE. I've tried for another several weeks to work with them patiently to get my password and a refund on the parts they told me to buy 5 months ago when I first brought it in. They told me they would reach out and have not. They have gone totally radio silent and refuse to help. This has been a traumatic and costly experience and has taken up hours and hours of my time, all for nothing. They refuse to give me the refund I'm owed and have done nothing but made the problem worse. We deserve better than Best Buy. read more

My computer simply stopped working. As a client of Geek Squad, I called and got an appointment the next day, then the day after. Two guys were involved and both said it was hopeless, need a new computer (this one is three years old). The taxi for two days travel was $84 (I'm disabled so can't drive). I called Geek Squad again and this time the very efficient guy Jay told me to go to Bailey's Crossroads Best Buy at ll:40 am and he thinks they can fix it. Sure enough, in less than 10 minutes the guy had it working, said all I needed was a new charger. Cost me another $40 to roundtrip that one but it was worth it. I am going to complain to the head office (it's called executive coplaint in case anyone is interested) and hopefully I'll at least get a credit for the taxi fares. The hours spent are gone and ridiculously spent with people who had no business working as computer specialists. Shame on you, Best Buy, you used to be a standout years ago but your service standards have slipped drastically. read more

He offered a store credit, which was acceptable since I just wanted to replace the TV. This was my second experience with Marcus's superior service at this location within less than a year. The young man who helped us carry the TV to our vehicle was also very helpful and friendly. I've been a pretty frequent online buyer at this BestBuy Pentagon City location over the past year or so making some needed purchases. I purchased a new personal laptop (MacBook Air 13.3") and the HP Tango X wireless printer from them along with other software key/protection items (ie Apple Care+) sent via email, and printer accessories. I purchased my second Ring video doorbell from this location as well. I'm pleased with my purchases and, since done online, all receipts/confirmations are sent to me via email. I appreciate that they have contactless curbside pickup in the associated parking garage although I didn't really like how they changed the curbside system from clerks bringing items to your carside to requiring customers to go to the inside service desk as they did with my last pickup. On the few times I've been in this location, sometimes the staff will clap for entering customers which is confusing. For my printer ink discount card that came with my HP Tango X printer, BestBuy actually sent someone to deliver the item to my address although it was confirmed/emailed as Ship to Home item. I'm glad I decided to use Geek Squad services several times over the past year or so for installation of complex hardware items such as when I had a small Protect America brand security system and to mount my Ring2/ 3 video doorbells outside my last and current apartments. Geek Squad has a lot of offerings for services. With the Total Tech Support membership I had, the install fees were lowered. The Geek Squad agents were efficient, knew how to connect everything to the app and explained usage clearly to me. Install appointments are convenient to book by calling BestBuy and speaking to a representative and explaining what services you need addressed. I did note as a safety issue on a post-work survey sent by BestBuy that more Geek Squad agents had arrived to my appointment address than were noted by the rep as the install agents to arrive. For my most recent install, however, two Geek Squad agents arrived and the representative confirmed that prior. I'll continue to use Geek Squad services in the future. I also recommend this BestBuy location for authentic Apple products and stocking the other new tech products I've wanted. read more

While some others may not have had a happy experience with Geek Squad, I had a happy experience when it was a REALLY dramatic situation: the operating system on my one-year old laptop was corrupted and I had no access to anything. I was really in a panic, scheduled an appointment for the next day and brought the laptop in. I received text updates during the process, and 2.5 days later picked up my laptop. $200 was a small price to pay to calm my nerves, and I was nicely reminded to back everything up from now on! Sometimes there's staff that is extremely helpful and other times it's seems like they don't really give you valuable information and their just trying to hurry up to make a sale. Unfortunately I cannot remember the young man's name who helped me with exchanging my MacBook Air for the MacBook Pro but he was very knowledgeable and helped the process go smoothly. I love the location of this Best Buy because it's right off of the Columbia Heights metro station. They also have a nice variety of laptops and cameras on display. Service was good! My fiancé used to work at Best Buy in college, so he knows all the in's and out's - i.e, he knew we'd be able to get all the stuff we bought in March 2016 with a two-year protection plan replaced with all new stuff. So we came to do that. The associate who worked with him was knowledgeable and helpful, and the gentleman who let me into the bathroom was also very polite. Another associate and I even had a moment - he was playing a Biggie song on the demo speakers, caught me bobbing my head to it, and we exchanged a giggle. I did see an obviously unhappy customer making a scene over a MacBook, but I of course don't know any details of whether she had a right to be upset or not. This Best Buy is disappointing to say the least. They can't even do the basic things right, like listen to you and give you straight answers. I tried to buy a washer from this Beat Buy. Told them my situation - I needed them to uninstall and reinstall a dryer to get the new washer in place - and they said they could do it. Fast forward like 2 weeks, on the day of expected delivery, and I get a call letting me know they can't reinstall the dryer because it would be a liability for them. That's great. The customer service at this place was pretty poor. Story time: My friend could barely find someone to help him with his iPhone question...ok fine. But then when I was ready to pay for my item there was no one at any of the checkout kiosks. I looked around trying to catch someone in a blue polo shirt's eye but nothing. Went to customer service, they directed me to the empty checkout area even though they could see it was empty. (Same was done by the 2 standing idly near the entrance.) FINALLY someone came over. Another older lady was also looking for them, she apparently needed to return something. Apparently you cannot do returns at every checkout kiosk but I felt the checkout individual was very rude in relaying this to her. I was extremely disappointed in my recent visit to get Geek Squad assistance. To start, having an appointment seems to make no difference. Service was first come, first served. Worst, however, was that Best Buy's website implies they can provide all the sane support for an iPhone that can be obtained by going to an Apple Store but this is not correct. Basically, I felt that I wasted a half-hour of my time (not including getting to the store in the first place) only to be told that I needed to go to an Apple Store because Best Buy would not provide replacement under Apple Care+ for accidental damage due to handling. read more

I was in the market for a portable charger. I was overwhelmed with how many option there was and was researching on my phone on which one to pick. After a while someone came to help me understand the specs of it all and it was helpful but I felt like I was being push to buy something or get out. Understandably I felt obliged to get something since I was in the store for a while and I haven't picked anything yet. Still confused about the terminology I settled on a energizer portable charger. The cashier looked at me as if I was bother to her. Someone came in as I was getting ready to check out and the cashier insisted on helping us at the same time. I paid for my item and left but I won't return. It isn't the same Best Buy it used to be , I can't wander the store to look at the new gadgets because I then become a bother to the the workers. I've had a HORRENDOUS customer experience. This place has 2 out of 5 stars on Yelp.com for a REASON. I wish I had checked the reviews on Yelp.com BEFORE I went to this place. If I did, I would not have gone to this place and in the process saved myself a 35 minute drive, $1.50 in gas, $3 in parking, a pair of aspirin for the headache I got, and TIME WASTED. I'm a Best Buy Geek Squad FULL tech support member. I have a fully paid annual membership. I've only used the membership once since I've had it and decided to put my money to use today. Initially, I didn't realize this was Pentagon City. I came in from South Hayes Street. So it's easy to get confused. Just an FYI. I get to the door and the first warning sign was there was NO ONE at the front desk for Geek Squad. I had to have a Best Buy staff member actually call someone to come to the front desk. Sad. I met Representative "Hannibal". I introduced myself and told him I had an appointment for an evaluation of my cell phone at 2:20pm. The cell phone was operating a little sluggishly and I wanted Geek Squad to see what the problem could be and quote me a price for repair. Hannibal was IMMENSELY lazy. He asked me "how old was the phone?" I instantly suspected what he was up too. I suspected he would lazily say "Get a new phone." But I politely and professionally answered his irrelevant line of questions and told him the phone was almost three years old. And AS I SUSPECTED he said "You should just get a new phone". What an incompetent representative of Best Buy Geek Squad. Absolute incompetence. I was sooooooooooooooooo disappointed. That's like me having a problem with my car and a mechanic says "Just buy a new car" rather than diagnosing the problem with the car, relaying the information to the customer, and quoting a repair cost. I asked him again, "Could you at least give me an idea what may be wrong with the phone since I have little to no background in phone repair?" His response was a rushed, "No, I can't help you. Just buy a new phone." It was pathetic. But it didn't end there. I requested the contact information for the Manager of the Geek Squad. He gave me a Supervisor instead when I REPEATEDLY asked for the contact information of the actual MANAGER IN CHARGE of Geek Squad. I shouldn't have to ask repeatedly for a simple name and email. This experience today will likely lead me to terminate my membership with Geek Squad. I drove all the way out here for NOTHING. Again, I've paid in FULL for an annual membership, have almost never used my membership, but when I do need to use my membership this is the TRASH customer experience I receive from Hannibal. As aforementioned I wish I had reviewed the Yelp.com reviews for this Geek Squad at Best Buy BEFORE I wasted my time going out there. I'll likely never return. I don't even expect management to respond to my emails either. This location just comes off to me as being a poorly run store and an even worse customer experience. Call me over the top for writing a review about a chain but honestly this experience was unnecessary and uncomfortable that I'm going to leave a review for it. I live walking distance from this Best Buy and needed another iphone charger and one of the pop up buttons you add to the back of your phone. I walked in and found what I needed no problem, though I was asked 50 times if I needed help finding something. I understand that this is the employees job but I'm a solitary shopper but meh whatever. I was a little annoyed at the lack of stock they have though. It was rough just finding an iphone charger and it was $10 overpriced. I knew at that moment I should probably leave and go to the Target in Potomac Yard but I liked the pop up button I got so I sucked it up and went to pay. Paid, got my merchandise in my bag, and went to leave no problem. Except I got stopped and my bag was searched. I didn't know this was a thing?? But I also hadn't been at a Best Buy in years but okay?? Very uncomfortable though because it was obvious I was at the register and that was the direction I came from (there was barely anyone in the store) and I had a Best Buy shopping bag. About 2 other people exited the same time as me but they were not stopped. Was it because I was the only one that actually paid for items?? But there's also metal detectors??? Not even the Apple store has this and they have better and more expensive electronics. Better to go to Target or order online. I agree with all the other yelpers. This place was only OK. Actually, I'd give it 2 stars if I weren't in such a generous mood. I needed a charger for my Blackberry. I asked the closest available salesperson (salesperson #1) where I could find a charger for my phone. He pointed and said "try here, or there". Sadly, I had already visited "here and there" and could not figure out which charger worked with my phone. He was not very helpful. I decided to take a gamble by talking to salesperson #2. This time I identified my problem by asking which type of charger my phone used. He immediately knew which charger I needed and actually walked me to the charger instead of pointing to "here or there". THANK YOU! When I decided to pay, I went back to salesperson #1. I asked him if I could pay for my charger with him. He said " I guess? But only if you have a credit card" I responded "yes". He looked at me confused. I looked at him confused, then I thought "I should have gone back to salesperson #2. He was smart" Oh well. I eventually paid for my charger, but barely made it out of there. I didn't need a bag, but he didn't ask me if I needed a bag. He gave me my receipt with a confused look on his face. I don't know if this is a training issue, or an intelligence issue..... read more

Biggest drawback with this Best Buy is the parking garage situation. IT'S NOT FREE for BB customers. You see signs about validation so you just assume you're okay, but once you get inside you realize free parking doesn't apply to you. That said, just make sure you shop at one of the other stores to get a receipt. I went to Ritz looking for accessories to clean my camera, but no luck. So I was around Best Buy, I thought I will stop by and see if they have the cleaning material for DSLR. Went to the digital camera section...didn't see what I was hoping for. Went around the corner to find a rep to help me, they were a little busy chatting among themselves. One rep pointed me to another guy that deals with digital camera section. He was busy with another customer, but I'm very surprise there's not another rep for this section!! (You will think they will staff up when it's getting close to holiday season, and digital cameras are popular). Finally, another rep came by, asked her about the cleaning product that I was looking for. She didn't know much about it, and asked the other guy. He then actually told me to get those compressed air bottle for blowing my DSLR's mirror to clean it out....I'm no camera expert, but I read enough that I am not suppose to do that. Because the compressed air is too strong and can actually damage the DSLR mirror. I would suggest to Best Buy rep who are not very knowledgeable should just shut it. Do not suggest a recommendation that can actually damage a fairly expensive camera. read more

The people at the Pentagon City store are very nice but the company in general hasn't impressed me. I bought a router went home & got on the phone with Geek Squad (Best Buys Tech Support) to get it set up and the technician couldn't even get it set up after an hour of being on the phone with them. Then the technician tells you that I can pay an additional $150 dollars to have one of their technicians get it hooked up to my WiFi. kind of infuriating. Also it turns out the the router that the sales person at Pentagon City recommended to me has terrible reviews. Such a complete waste of time. Another thing I'll add is never buy an extended warranty from Best Buy, it's how they make all their money. You do not need to purchase one. Yes a lot of times it doesn't have what I want, but since for the most part I buy on-line and pick up in store it hasn't been an issue for me not finding what I want. Even though this Best Buy is a pretty decent size, they carry a very limited selection on almost everything. I stopped by to pick up three CDs which the website said this location had available, but I was unable to find ANY of the CDs on my list even with the help of two store personnel. The worst part was that when the guys gave up on looking, they didn't even tell me--they just walked off and disappeared. We all know Best Buy sucks, but this one is at the rock bottom. read more
