I have used this business several times over the years and they have yet to disappoint. This time i bought an under the counter GE refrigerator. They didn't have it in stock so ordered it from GE. It arrived as predicted within a couple of weeks. I got the call it was in and scheduled delivery. It arrived promptly and was installed and the old refrigerator was hauled away. We had been to another appliance store with a pretty showroom looking for an oven and felt pressure to purchase a particular brand. I ended up leaving. Very pleased with the service from Glebe, including the range and microwave selection, and the delivery and installation from Robert Kraft. The price for the GE Profile range was several hundred dollars less than what the big box stores had offered, and I was advised the GE microwave was better for clean-up maintenance than what I had in mind, a GE Profile microwave. No one could have been better installing the range and microwave than Robert Kraft. What a pro. After he had expertly installed the appliances, he had kindly showed me how to work both the microwave and range. I had previously tried working with two other independent appliance dealers when shopping for the appliances, one of whom I had worked with several months ago (Miele dishwasher purchase, M&M Appliance), but I had received indifferent service the second time. So it's really important to start this review with the fact I originally went to Bray and Scarff, which advertises on WTOP, has a really nice showroom, and all the bells and whistles of a professional and reliable organization. They gave me a price and did the measurements (which I paid for). Then however, I got the invoice with the final price for my new refrigerator. They racked on more fees than a car dealer, didn't even bother to explain the fees, and were unable to when asked. Angry and no longer trusting them, I decided to take a trip along Lee highway and get some additional estimates. While in a kitchen cabinet place that I thought sold appliances, they recommended Glebe Radio and Appliances which I had not heard of. The owner/operator, Dabney, gave me a better price with no excessive fees. The entire fridge with installation and carrying off my old one cost less than Bray and Scarff's sticker price before taxes! They also delivered and installed the fridge within ONE week and actually came within the delivery window. The delivery guys even initiatively used a level to slightly adjust the angle of the fridge to ensure the doors would not slightly lean towards opening. They, and Dabney take personal ownership. Bottom line is, dont judge this place by its appearance. This is a local, family owned and operated business where they know how to treat people, take ownership, and get things done right. I called Glebe to ask about purchasing a new washer/dryer combo for my rental house. The person I spoke to said that he wanted the owner to call me back, and he would within 30 minutes. Although it took another call by me and about 4 hours to get him on the phone, the owner called me back and was very helpful. He was courteous and quickly gave me the answer I needed, which was that he didn't have what I needed (25" max width). My only major complaint about Glebe is their selection. They only sell a few brands, so they don't have a lot of variety. read more

The owner, Dabney, is either a genius or the dumbest guy in business!! But considering I go back to him time and time again, he must be a genius! This is by far the best place to get appliances in Arlington/Falls Church. You get excellent customer service and the lowest retail prices around. You also can feel good for buying from a local business where the owner lives right in Arlington. I've compared Glebe Radio's prices to both McGuire and Bray & Scarff and Glebe Radio won easily. On a clothes dryer, we saved $100 over the other guys. The only place I've found that beats Glebe's prices are the internet and Sears when they have big sales but believe me you never want to deal with Sears! Here's an example of the great customer service you get from Glebe. A couple of weeks I went in there looking for a dishwasher. I did my research on the internet (including Consumer Reports) but there was so much conflicting advice out there, I decided to go straight to the pros and ask for Dabney's advice. We walked over to the dishwasher section where there were maybe 8 dishwashers. There were a couple of $1200 Kitchenaids but he pointed to the $649 GE and said this is what you want. You have to add $100 for stainless. Wow...he could've pushed the $1200 appliances but right away he saved me $450 steering me away from those. BTW the dishwasher I was replacing was a $1200 Kitchenaid. Then Dabney says but hey if you get the controls on the front of the dishwasher, you can save another $100 and get stainless for only $649! So now he'd saved me $550!! Told me it was a very reliable dishwasher and I could spend more but I'd get a bunch of features I'd never use. Having had a $1200 Kitchenaid for 8 years, I knew exactly what he meant! The guy who does the installation is also great. Very friendly guy who does an excellent job and goes the extra mile for you. Even gave us great advice on the use of the dishwasher to save money. The only con about this place is it's a real hole in wall mom and pop shop. If you can look past the dusty memorabilia from the 1950's, you'll love this place for the service, prices and peace of mind. I found Glebe Radio & Appliances after an unfortunate leak/breakdown of my washer & dryer. As I just bought my condo in May, I was not happy to already have to replace an appliance. However, I saw the reviews on Yelp and thought I would give them a shot! Everyones comments are right on the dot. When I walked in, Dabney the owner recommended the cheaper appliance rather than the more expensive one. Since I have a small laundry area, I needed to get something compact. Due to measurement issues, i ended up going with the more expensive washer & dryer. I could've gotten it slightly cheaper elsewhere (because of holiday sales), but I knew that i would be in good hands should i ever have to call back. The installation & delivery fee is steep, and i wasn't sure if i could front the cash. Dabney offered to pay the installer directly and he put it on my credit card instead. That's the kind of mom & pop customer service that is lacking nowadays in big box stores!! Robert Kraft who came to install was a delight! he explained what he was doing and how the machine worked. gave me a lot of great tips regarding care for the washer & dryer. After a nightmarish series of failed attempts to first get a failing dishwasher repaired and then unsuccessfully working with the big box stores to get a replacement, I was lucky enough to discover this business. We'd been told by Best Buy that it was a 4 to 8 week wait for the "rarity" of a white dishwasher - and when I called Glebe Radio and Appliance, Dabney immediately helped me find what I was looking for. Unlike the impersonal and confusing online experience of other stores, it was refreshing to deal with a human being who seemed to genuinely care about the customer experience. The installer was first-rate - not only on the "basics" front (coming on time and not inside a vague window of an entire morning or entire afternoon) but he was clearly competent and skilled at the craft of correctly installing the new appliance - something, I learned, the previous Sears installer was NOT when the dishwasher was installed a mere seven years earlier. The installer also took the time to explain about how to care for and maintain the new appliance and left me certain that the next time we need any appliance in this house (likely soon, given that most appliances today just don't last long), we will use Glebe Radio and Appliance. In this era of impersonal box stores, third-rate service, and anemic concern about customer satisfaction, it's a breath of fresh air to deal with a locally owned business like this. I bought two air conditioners from Dabny a couple years ago and the installer never fastened the faces of the air conditioners down. He said just push it in and down. Well, it has always fallen off so I called today for them to finish the job. Dabny referred me to someone that will charge me $95.00 to finish the job saying he didn't like my attitude. I have purchased appliances from Glebe twice. The first time was for a kitchen range, the second was for a dryer. I am as pleased with my second experience with them as I was with the first. They sold me a gas dryer at a competitive price and it was easy to schedule the installation. The installers showed up on time after notifying me in advance when they were coming, installed the new dryer and hauled the old one away. If there is an angel of appliances, Dabney is it! I just did a kitchen reno of a very small kitchen, and I ran into an issue with the sink for my under-the- counter dishwasher. We had thrown out the sink, and it's not only speciality, but it had been discontinued. Left a message with Glebe Appliances after I got a recommendation from my FB friend. Dabney called me back with the part number so I searched frantically on the web and also called around. No luck! Dabney called me after he closed saying he found the part in old stock! What a miracle! It was from 2006, and I think he charged me the 2006 price. He was assisting someone with a unique appliance need when I got there so this is the place to go for your appliance needs. Overdue review! Came here to buy a new refrigerator over the summer, based on a recommendation and after reading the great Yelp reviews. This store doesn't carry a hundred models the way large retailers do, which is fine with me -- my husband and I did our research, so we generally knew what we wanted. Dabney was very helpful in answering any questions we had, but he otherwise hung back and let us figure things out on our own. We really appreciated this - I get overwhelmed when people are too in-your-face and pushy. The price we got on our stainless steel Kitchenaid fridge was competitive and reasonable. Other reviews mentioned the delivery cost to be a bit high, but I found it to be reasonable, considering they also take away your old fridge. The delivery guys were great: they worked fast and hooked up the water line, which was a nice surprise (we didn't realize we had a water line to the fridge until the old one was removed). They made sure the fridge was level and they even cleaned/buffed their fingerprints off the stainless steel fridge before leaving! And they took a few minutes to explain some of the fridge features, since our old model was super basic. Overall, a great experience shopping here! These guys are fantastic. On Tommy's advice, after futilely looking elsewhere, I went to visit them. My dishwasher died and it cost more to fix it than replace it. Went against every Old Soviet gene in my body, but I realized it was the right decision. So off I went to Glebe Radio. He helped me sort through price ranges, features, durability and value. I decided on a mid-range priced model with a stainless steel interior; it was also on sale. Real old-fashioned, mom and pop place where they know their stuff and shake your hand at the end. It was great. And the delivery guy called me 2 days later to coordinate delivery and installation in my condo. All told, faster, cheaper and much better service than I could have found anywhere else. OMG. Why would you buy anywhere else? I never even went into the store! My washer went out, and was old. I found good reviews for Glebe Appliance, so I called. The owner (Dabny) answered! Treated me like a valued potential customer! I asked him what brands he carried, and then I went on consumer reports and picked one that looked like it would work, called back, ordered it, and paid over the phone. The price was great! I checked around!. Dabny even told me I probably did not need to replace my dryer, even tho it's just as old as the washer. What honesty! The installation of the new, and removal of the old, went w/out a hitch, done by an obviously seasoned and experienced PLUMBER, not some day laborer. Sound like I was satisfied? Despite all the five-star reviews, unfortunately for me, I'll have to take exception here. The problem is wiith the two deliverers, esp. the one named Robert. The frig they were delivering was without the original manufacturer's protective film and covering. When I pointed out what appear to be a large dent on one side, he became furious and combative, screaming at me that they are just "waves." He got the owner on the phone and the owner also insisted the same despite my question that if they are waves, why are they only on one side and not on all sides. The owner was very quick to offer me a refund on the phone while Robert was rough handling my old frig by throwing it back together in a hurry. After I decide to keep the dented frig, Robert turned cocky and mocked me for having "stupid" questions. Just as I felt distraught about this unexpectedly tenuous situation somehow happened to me, I discovered that the hardboard cover of the motor behind the frig was bulging out and its metal fastner was banged up so bad and it, too, was bulging. I note that the manufacturer's warranty does not cover damage from the delivery. I'm not accustomed to write poor reviews, but this is one time I'm left no choice. Until and unless Owner Dabney take action to remedy this situation, I will never do business with this store again. read more

I decided to go the Glebe Radio and Appliance store after doing some research and going to other appliance stores. I value my time and wanted someone knowledgeable and honest to provide a stress and hassle free transaction. I found Mr. Dabney Wharton's ( the owner) prices competitive and reasonable. My transaction was smooth with no haggling or upselling. He provided great customer service and was able to follow-up on important details prior to delivery. We discussed measurement issues to insure proper installation of appliance following the completion of the countertop and kitchen island installation. Since renovating a kitchen is an enormous undertaking, I felt confident getting my dishwasher, microwave, gas stove, and refrigerator from this small business owner. He was also able to provide me a few referrals for reputable, GE approved, appliance repairman in the future. The appliances were safely delivered by Robert Kraft and his associate. He was very knowledgable and brought to our attention various code changes during installation. He made recommendations for hardware changes such as a dual valve needed for a flush mount installation of a dual gas and convection oven and a new 1/4" OD copper coil tubing to replace the existing older copper tube for the water line for the refrigerator. Robert also gave instructions and guidance on how to use the new appliances. I always feel confident making purchases from small business owners...so glad I did. read more

Yes, you could drive 20 miles away and get a "good deal" at Lowes, Or you can go up the street to Bray and Scarff, where they *might* pay attention to you if you're buying $50K worth of product. OR you can go to Glebe Radio, where the owner is helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant, whether you're buying a $3,000 range or a countertop microwave. I've gone all three routes, and from now on, I'll choose the latter. I got a good price, and prompt delivery by people who showed up when they said they would, and took the same care that I would with the installation. Such nice, nice people and very honest. I first used them when my dryer broke. They installed a new one after guiding me to a reasonably priced replacement...then my outlet broke (completely unrelated to the dryer), and they came back the next day to fix it. A month later, my washer broke. Of course, I went right back to Glebe and they delivered it the day after Christmas for me. Stupidly, I had turned the ringer off on my phone so I hadn't heard them call to say they were on their way, and it was so loud in my house that I didn't hear them knocking. When I finally saw the missed call, I called them and they RETURNED to my house to install the washer. A total class-act. I think 99% of companies would tell me I was an idiot and missed my install window, and probably charge me a reschedule fee. Instead, they returned right away to install the washer.
