Excellent carpet replacement work done by Best Buy Floors! The cheap carpet pad in my upstairs was deteriorating causing my carpet to ripple and look unsightly. I had already stretched it once about 2 years ago but then my two dogs also started marking certain spots so I finally decided to switch it all out. I opted for a waterproof Healthier Choice foam carpet pad and Shaw Pet+ carpet and asked for an additional cork 3mm underlayment beneath the pads to hopefully help with sound. Came in as a last ditch effort to find flooring we needed. Was greeted by Aldo, incredibly friendly and professional. Helped us work through the various selections. We left the store with a good plan in mind and called back to finalize our purchase. Was informed that it would take a week to arrive and that there would be a 30% restocking fee. At that time, it was what it was. We accepted the ramifications of returning if we over ordered. Fast forward to a completed project, and we indeed had several boxes left to return. We called to share that we would need to do a return. Advised that we could drop it back off at their store. Upon dropping off, Aldo shared that there might be an additional shipping fee. That they would need to check with their vendor. After several days of not hearing anything, the next successful communication, the narrative had now changed to that we weren't able to do a return because our box count was under the minimum. Was advised we would need to return and retrieve the boxes we had dropped off. When we expressed discontent with their solution, the options that were given were, we could hold onto the products and they could try and find a new buyer, talk directly with their vendor to convince them to accept a return. At the end, it took a conversation with the owner to accept the return with the agreed 30% reduction for restocking. Their quoted price were also higher for hardwood floors sold by other retailers in the area. They never showed up for measurements in-house after multiple commitments and follow up messages. I have not asked for a ridiculous discount. You are making a false accusation. I never even specified any amount. I just asked for a discount stating that there are discrepancies in the expectation. When Alex came back with the updated number, it was less than 1% of original quoted price. 3. When I wrote 20~30% higher, I received quotes from other companies. It wasn't based on my original budget. Miguel, I would like you to read the email thread that I had with Alex. I would also be happy to further explain my complaint. Although my experience is only limited to getting the project estimate, the exchanges throughout the process was bit distressful. In short, the estimate I received was 20%~30% higher than other estimates and appointments and follow ups were delayed. When we walked in to their showroom, the experience was great. Alex assisted me promptly, was attentive, and scheduled for floor measurement on the next day. Until here, I was thinking this business would hold up to all these good reviews. Then it slowly went sideways. Alex has first postponed the appointment on the day of measurement. Not a great start, but understandable, because notice was given in the morning for 1pm appointment. He suggested 9 am the next day, so I said yes, but no reply back - confirmation came only after I asked for it and the reply came back well after 10pm. On the day of measurement, he showed up 25 minutes late for it, and it kept getting worse. He promised estimates by EOD, but later postponed twice and ended up providing the estimates 2 days later after the measurement. Installation cost estimate 20~30% higher than other vendors. At first I thought this was just a car's MSRP thing that they do for the business that no one really pay for. He did mention that their estimates may be higher, since they offer quality work with no hidden or surprise fee, but it still couldn't justify the price difference. With all these positive reviews for this business with some praising their competent price, I was hoping to give them another try by negotiating the price. I kept convincing myself that this was just a hiccup and the project will be fine after all. I was dead wrong. I have asked if they could provide me with a better estimate with a discount. I even said that I will be willing to pay little extra for the quality work. Alex replied saying that he will work on giving me the best number he can. Later he came back with $150 discount from the original quote. When I asked for what discount I am getting, he mentioned that the price is cheaper by $1500. This was because I asked for some stairs to be in carpet instead of hardwood flooring, but the actual discount was not even a 1% of the total project estimate. I finally gave up. The process went smoothly - I felt fully informed of my options and what choices I had to make from the initial consultation. Maria was very patient in walking through all the details - warranty, tradeoffs for various options, installation details, etc. After settling on the installation, Alex helped me choose the wood and provided numerous samples that I could bring home and try out in different light. Installation was just as smooth. The workers were punctual, very careful when moving the furniture (including covering it up to avoid collecting dust) and the finished product was perfect. There were no gaps, squeaks or imperfections in the floor. They were diligent in their work and came back to touch up the few corners that were scuffed during the process.
