I tried to call my local Best Buy store in Torrance today. I was routed to an AI agent, and when I asked to be transferred to the store's electronic department in Torrance, they shunted me off to human agent named Bernie whom I waited 6 minutes to talk to. Great. Not only does Best Buy have an extraordinary amount of disdain for its customers, but they don't even want to talk to them directly any more. I get it. Customers are hard. They ask questions... ugh... what a hassle, right? When I finally got through the barrage of abrasively upbeat music which threw in a melody from a whistling chorus (because there's no way of saying "I hate my customers" more than bad, upbeat music with a whistling chorus), I got to Bernie. Bernie seemed nice if a bit beleaguered. He sounded defeated in the way that came from a long, drawn out existential crisis that he seemed be losing. Bernie apologized that he did not in fact have the capability to transfer anyone to any department to any Best Buy anywhere. I can understand why he sounded so defeated. When I asked him why he could not, poor, defeated Bernie simply hung up. It's nice to know that Best Buy's corporate policy of disdain and utter hatred for its customer is so much a part of their corporate ethos that it makes down to even the lowliest phone operator. Well done, Best Buy. You did it. I called to check on their selection that I was not able to find on their web site. Worst service I have ever experienced. Walked in on Saturday morning asking about an in store event for kids that was advertised. I was told tickets had all been given out, I couldn't see anyone in the store and it was a children's event, I could clearly see those with tickets were adults. I then wanted help with refurbished products and was told someone will come help. No one ever came. I asked a different associate who looked irritated I even approached him. I went to a Best Buy close to my home and unfortunately they did not have the iPhone 17 I wanted so I headed to this location as they did. I patiently waited while an employee was finishing up with some customers. As soon as Paul Jaime finished with them, he greeted me and helped me right away. I knew exactly what I wanted and had all information so it was easy from the start. However, Paul went above and beyond with helping me set up my phone, helping me pick a case, and checking in with me as soon as my phone was complete with the overall transfer. As I waited plenty of others checked in with me. I had also purchased a Topo Chico on site and they helped me open it which was funny adventure itself. The printer was ordered online by the technician which if you need to return you have to call another customer service number. The technician only showed us how to copy which was easy. But didn't show us how to scan which on this Epson has to be done on the computer. His vague explanations maybe ok for people who are computer savvy but not elderly people who aren't. We went in for the upgrades to the iPhone 17 for four lines and were assisted by a member who is working at the store representing AT&T named Ben. He offered white glove service and promotions and activations as soon as we left the store. The problem: Ben did not keep his word and left his phone, which she said was a direct contact to him and feel free to contact is now referring us to tech-support for AT&T in India, who can not only keep the same promotions, but it takes 60 minutes to reach a representative. Ben has been dismissive and evasive in texting as you can tell once the deal was done on his part no empathy, work ethic, or follow through was done making us potentially lose these promotions and delaying the times we are getting the phones. He also input a wrong email address for our account which she said would be fine. Turns out it's not fine and has caused more issue. Point being , I don't care how many buttons down your shirt needs to be and how cool and calm you are, Ben but your broken promises and lack of communication and deferral to Indian tech-support has left us with broken promises on promotions, delays on receiving phones, and now we have to call over and over to AT&T to redo this process. They offered to use geek squad, for a fee. Now I must go through the same process with the manufacturer. Best Buy is nothing but a middle man to take your money and pass you on. Alexis T was there immediately to help me. She asked a number of questions regarding exactly what I was looking for and offered up a handful of worthy suggestions. I ended up w a Sony product given their reputation. Note that I did compare prices against Amazon while in the store, and Best Buy was priced just about the same, if not a few dollars less. With the extraordinary help I got from Alexis, and the fact that we tried out all the sound bars she recommended and some I was just curious about...you can't get that service going through Amazon. Two weeks ago, I came in to purchase a refrigerator. The customer service representatives have no human compassion. The woman working the section overheard me say that I was going to cancel an online purchase. She yelled at me across the area as though I was a bother to her. "If you want to cancel a purchase online, you need to call online. " She was rude and dismissive. I wasn't even talking to her. If she cared about the business, she'd know that I could cancel on my phone and buy in the store. Instead she discouraged me from shopping . I want to feel relaxed and happy while I am spending thousands of dollars. Truth is, I canceled my online order and headed to Lowe's. The "process" was great... I called up best buy and asked them if they could send someone out to measure and make sure exactly which oven would fit. Then followed that person back to the Best Buy store, we discussed options and we bought one. That person then roughed in a delivery and install time (for only three days later) and it was then turned over the the install sub, ABC Installations (who were great). In hindsight, I'm realizing that the initial measuring at our house was pretty rough and I'm thinking that 50% of that offered service is to get into you house and sell you more stuff. (Though that didn't actually happen in our case.) But later, when the delivery/install happened I realized that the salesperson had not actually measured anything but the rough size. But it was super-comforting to know that if anything was even slightly off I had every reason and right to say "YOUR person measured it so don't blame me... now take this oven back" Also, in the store, the salesperson did a lot of "Between you and me... but you didn't hear this from me... this oven item is blah-blah-blah... " ya know? like that behind-the-hand-confidentiality-this-could-cost-me-my-job-but-I'm-gonna-level-with-you. In this case, she "confidentially" told us that this oven was on sale and we could currently save over $500. After buying it and comparing prices I saw that EVERYONE from Lowe's to US Appliance and everyone else was selling it for the same price or within $3 of that price. (Everyone can say that their oven is on sale because they are selling if for less than the ol' "suggested retail price".)(This oven is on sale 24/7/365! ... what an amazing oven!) BUT, I mean, that's her JOB... to sell you stuff and make you happy. It's on ME if I wasn't smart enough to compare prices or say something like, "this sounds good but I will call you back after doing some research on prices and dimensions and we can wrap this up over the phone". And, by the way, no one online was selling it for less than what we paid. I guess the bottom line, after much rambling, is that our salesperson was fast to respond to our initial phone call, came out to our house quickly, was personable and knew the products quite well, made the in-store process painless and fast.
