But as someone who considers my pup a fur child, who has his own instagram, whose haircuts are more expensive than my own (the list goes on) ... I felt 100% right at home in Nancy's class! Some highlights: + Small classrooms (4 dogs) with personalized support + Timely emails with homework, videos, and ongoing support from Nancy + Recordings in case you can't make class + Facebook group for playdates It might be a little pricier than other preschools in the area, but believe me, you are getting way more for the value. Nancy's trainings are positive reinforcement.... which means... tons of treats! My pup is pretty small and kept getting sick after class. We thought it was carsickness and Nancy recommended I get a prescription from the vet. However, I noticed he wasn't getting sick on other car rides (even to Sonoma, SF, or Pescadero.. with that windy road). Turns out, it wasn't carsickness.. but too many treats! I had to end up switching to a less heavy treat and rationing them out in class. Just a tip if your pup is experiencing similar symptoms... carsickness might not be the culprit. Nonetheless, my puppy transformed from one who was very afraid of other dogs and humans to a sociable, well-adjusted puppy thanks to Nancy's class. Right from the consultation, Octavia was friendly and reassuring and helped us understand that our dog was just a little special to no fault of our own. After discussing our concerns, what we hoped to get out of training, and our schedules we opted for the 24 session home and train package. Given mine and my bf's work schedule, we initially thought we would only attend a few sessions a week and have Octavia work with our puppy for a majority of the time. However, that quickly changed and Octavia worked with me and my literally ridiculous work schedule to make sure we found something that worked for all of us. Working with Octavia made us realize the training is as much for the dog as it is for the human. She didn't push any strict rules that I've seen other trainers mention, such as not allowing the dogs on furniture, and really factored in what would be practical in our lives as dog parents and what we wanted. As with all things, it takes time to find out what works best for each dog. Octavia was very patient in explaining and walking us through everything. She was always open for questions and answering whatever concerns I had about my dog even if it wasn't directly related to our training session. It's been almost a year and finding Octavia as a trainer has been the best thing that could happen to our family. What other trainer could you find that will shed tears with you from seeing your dog go from being unable to walk without tugging on a leash, to being able to walk at a heel off leash in just a few weeks (with still plenty of sessions to go!). She interprets dog speak so well ... she got us thinking and understanding Cosimo's reactions and feelings and more and more in tune with him. It's been wonderful to learn and understand our dog and work with him in the framework Jenna set. We relocated to Germany early March and brought Cosimo. In the months prior to travel, we read about Germany and how pet-friendly the country is - and how well-behaved German doggies are. This worried us and we did a few sessions with Jenna to brush up our skills in managing Cosimo. I am deliberately dwelling on 'our skills' ... because that's how Jenna works - she trains the owners more than she does the dog. It's been absolutely wonderful in Germany. We find Cosimo well-adjusted and wonderfully well behaved. He's in the upper percentile. Peggy and the rest of the team set us up for so much success through these play days, puppy socials, and training classes! We were told our dog needed work because, as a puppy, she had a high chase and prey drive. We were told to separate her from smaller dogs because she got too rough. After a month of Hound Haven puppy socials - both the drop off training sessions on the week days and the weekend play times -- our pup became a demo dog for how to teach the other dogs how to "get small" while playing with the little dogs. Our dog is 2 now, and we give Hound Haven so much praise and credit any time someone compliments our dog. While we've gone to many training classes with her since Hound Haven, we know our girl wouldn't be nearly the sweet, obedient, love bug she is today without Hound Haven teaching her and us the basics as a little pup. I even went by the business on a day and time that it was supposed to be open but it was closed. I did get one email back that said they would call me but they never did. I really wanted to support a local business but if that business doesn't contact prospective new clients in a timely manner I don't think that makes your business look very good
