It was my fault that I didn't go with him from the get-go. I had experiences with two others that were terrible: The first one installed a couple things that were falling out by the time he left, and the second one apparently doesn't need business because he didn't respond to me for over 10 days after coming to take a look at what I needed. But anyway, this review is about the AWESOMENESS that is Michael! He responded within a day of my contacting him, which was a great place to start. He asked me to let him know what I needed and set up a time within a week or so. Then he contacted me to let me know he'd had a cancellation and could come three days earlier if I wanted! Yes please!! Michael is so personable. I liked him from the moment I opened the door, literally. One of the first things he said to me was "Can I tell you something about this door?" Apparently he has lots of customers who don't realize their storm doors have a screen and wanted to show me (I already knew though!). The most important task I had for him on this visit was to reattach the handrail that had been removed by some movers, and which had before they removed it been loose and coming out of the wall. That handrail is now rock solid. I honestly think I could hang from it (and I'm not a small gal) and it would not budge. He patched the drywall from where it had been coming out of the wall, and then he checked the remaining four or five handrails in the house to make sure they are equally as strong. He also gave tips on some filters for the furnace, and suggestions for smoke detectors--which was very timely, because I had been researching them before he visited. He's not inexpensive but he's worth every darn penny. I won't ever use another handyman whilst I live here, and I'm already feeling sad in my heart that if/when we do move, it'll probably be to a near suburb or outlying neighborhood like Norwood Park that he doesn't service and I'm mourning the loss of this awesome dude as my go-to handymensch.

Before coming out, he suggested we try something to see if we easily could fix it ourselves, essentially, potentially talking himself out of a job. When we couldn't, he came out. Between the email exchange and the visit, I came up with a list of to do's, including the disposal, toilet issues, door and shelf issues, lighting problems, etc. In addition to fixing them all, he gave me a long list of ideas and recommendations and easy fix its from air filters to fire/carbon monoxide detectors, to ceiling fans, to water heaters, and the list goes on. All in an hour. It was a tremendous value for the money. I can't recommend Michael enough.

I immediately placed an order from my local hardware store and to have all the items (appliances) shipped to my home. The day before the scheduled appointment the repairman messaged me that he made a mistake and that he was supposed to schedule my appointment for the following day. He also mentioned that I did not send him a deposit to lock in my appointment as if I lost the appointment due to not paying him a deposit. I was confused! We never discussed a deposit or a deposit amount when I spoke with the handyman over the phone. I did not see the other Yelpers reference in their post anything about Zelle quick paying their repairman for a deposit. I thought something was odd I immediately thanked him for his time and told him I would not need his company to complete the repairs!

Harry has been our go-to handyman for over a decade. He has helped us at our previous residence, a condo, and at our new house, on many different kinds of projects. We have never been disappointed. His service is excellent, very reliable. He communicates very clearly about what work he will do and how or why something should be done. His prices are fair. He also has great problem solving skills. I recall one time four or five years ago, I was working remotely from home, already having a bad day, and went to the fridge for a snack--the door to the fridge fell off just as I opened it. We were worried we would have to buy a new fridge, but, thankfully, decided to call Harry first. He came right over, checked it out, and fixed it, no problem. Peter told us at most, it would likely be 6 hours, but fortunately he was able to finish everything in a total of only 3 hours! He was also on time (few minutes early), courteous (took off his shoes and put down drop cloths), very friendly and answered all of my questions by explaining what the issues were and on the progress of the repair. I would highly recommend Peter if you're in Hyde Park, and I'll definitely be turning to him for any future electrical work!

Jason Mitchell is a con man. He bragged about his ability and boasted about being bonded. He took…read moremy money and abandoned the job without completing it. He didn't level my floating floors before tiling (which was stipulated prior to signing the contract) and all of the tile work is unleveled and has buckling tile. The mortar is cracking and popping up. When I reached out to him for warranty repairs he told me to take it up with his attorney. I spent over $13k on a tile job for 4 rooms and I now need to have it all removed in order to have the floors properly leveled. He has no business being a contractor and I highly suggest you avoid him at all cost. My attorney has recommended that I look into a class action lawsuit against him. Edit: reply to Jason's response. Please do not believe the lies Jason has responded to my honest review of his tile failure in my home. 1st: The job was abandoned in June of 2019. 2nd: He refused to complete the job because I made the mistake of paying him the majority of the payments early after he presented a sob story about not being able to cover his pay roll. This was pre grouting before we noticed the tile was laid uneven. 3rd: I remained calm and cordial with him through the 2 months. I provided photos of the numerous areas that were unacceptable and unprofessional done. He always guaranteed he would correct the issues and never did. 4th: He refunded me $1000, not $2k after I threatened to take him to court for abandoning the job. I never signed any post agreement with him. He was supposed to create one for me to review and he never did. He must be confusing me with another victim of his. 5: I'm the one that pointed out the floating floor was not properly leveled and he tried to repair the sections after he had already laid uneven tile. His attempts made the floor more unstable. Before I signed the contract with him he guaranteed my floors would be leveled. 6: I had found a few bad reviews regarding His work prior to hiring him and he provided the same type of lies he used in response to my review here. 7: I was contacted by a former employee of his that told me my floor would start to fall apart after around a year because of Jason cuts corners. & that Jason has a history of scrubbing bad reviews with Angie's List and Yelp. 8.I turned down his initial bid as it was extremely high. I was going to hire Luna. Jason lowered his price in his bid in order to win the job. No terms were changed for the work to be completed and he guaranteed the work to be on par with Luna. After his poor craftsmanship became apparent he made a remark that he did level the floor because he lowered his price. Please note prior to the contract being signed we specifically discussed how the floor being leveled was to be included. (Not the basement floor, the main level were the tile us all falling apart now). He even made the remark "floor leveling us automatically included as it's part of properly tiling". 9. Protect yourself and find another contractor.

3 years ago we purchased a king bed frame from pottery barn. It's solid wood and pretty massive and…read moreheavy. Assembly was included in the delivery so we never inspected the individual parts. A few days ago while assembling a baby bassinet I sat on the edge of the bed to read the instructions and the bed collapsed under me. Apparently there was a stress fracture in the side rail that we never noticed and I sat in exactly the right spot to make it give way. Pottery barn only provides a one year warranty and since this was a pricey piece of furniture I called a furniture repair place. Their answering service said they would return my call after the weekend. While looking online for another repair option I found Max on yelp. He responded quickly to my project and we set an appointment for the next day. Not only did he fix it but was able to salvage the original wood with special brackets. The frame feels solid. I would hire him again and would absolutely recommend him!
