They quoted a price and stuck to it: $95 for a lockout and $60 for a new mailbox lock. This was the same price as another company that responded responded to my Yelp Quote request (which might I add, has a verified license with Yelp and over 800 positive reviews), but since Best Key answered first, I went with them. I will say that I do appreciate them not changing the price on me. That being said, upon my first call, I was told that the tech would arrive at 4:10. The dispatcher then asked me to text him my information. Once I did, the ETA became 4:30, mind you our initial exchange occurred around 2pm. At 4:11, I received a text saying that my tech would be late with no updated ETA. I asked, and was told 5:10. Needless to say, I wasn't happy having been waiting for over 2 hours and being told to wait longer. I asked for a discount which was denied at first, but I persisted and said $5 off would be the least that they could do. The dispatcher obliged, and I was appeased for the time. The tech arrived a little sooner than expected at 5pm, but he was in a personal car with damages to the exterior rather than a company truck. He grabbed one small bag of tools and followed me to my apartment. When he started attempting to unlock the lock, I could tell he was not experienced. I've had a home lock opened by a locksmith before and there is precision to the process. He stuck two tools into the locks and started wiggling them around indiscriminately. With no luck and having seen I already bought a new lock set that I intended to install myself, he asked me if I still needed the old locks. I told him that I did because I was tired and didn't want to install the new ones until the next day. He told me he would install it for me for free and proceeded to DRILL THROUGH MY OLD LOCK WITH A POWER TOOL. There were metal shavings all over my shared apartment hallway floor that I had to clean up. When we got to the mailbox, he didn't have the right size lock on him and had to go grab one from a sister company which took about 20 additional minutes. The repair also included drilling rather than picking the lock and again, I cleaned up the shavings. When it came time for payment, I gave him my credit card. He asked if I had Venmo or Zelle. I genuinely don't have those apps on my phone. He then asked if I could write him a check. I understand that it costs businesses to take credit cards, but you can't try to coerce me into taking the payment type you want. If these modes of payment were preferred, that should've been disclosed from the beginning. Once he started writing the receipt, he kept telling me he was giving me discounts for things that were not my fault. Him drilling into my old lock and being forced to install the new ones was his fault, but he told me he was giving me the service for free. He also said that the price quote was for one door lock, not two. Who on this planet doesn't have a deadbolt on their door in additional to their regular door lock? And if this additional cost was legitimate, the dispatcher should have done his job and asked me more questions about the service during our initial exchange. Lastly, he told me that they typically charge $5 for a credit card purchase and that this was also his "discount" to me. I don't like when people make me feel like they're doing me a favor or use the small-business-card to guilt me into feeling bad. I paid you for a service with the price we agreed upon. The end. To top it off, his disorganized paperwork came out of a crumpled manila folder and I was told to take a picture of the receipt instead of being provided with one. Lesson learned: for services like this, review volume and licensing matters. UPDATE: I received a text message from the owner/dispatcher that began with "I'm sorry you feel that way, however..." rather than an apology for the service received, he blamed me for not having a vacuum for the tech to use (how is that my responsibility?) and also reiterated that I was receiving discounts rather than admitting he should have been more thorough upon our initial conversation about the service. I didn't care to respond and blocked the number. I'm removing one star. Unbelievable. read more

Called them on Sunday nite and they were prompt enough to contact me and said thata their technician would be there in 30-45 mins. I called them after the period and the boss said that the technician would again delayed by 30 mins. Finally he arrived and took 20 mins to diagnose the problem. He replaced a part however the electronic part was not locking it. So the lock works with a key but cannot use the digital controls to lock and unlock it. The price was a little high for this around $170 , but i guess that this is the going rate. We still need to replace our lock as we need digital control. read more

They are AAA+ Locksmith. This was a hard lock project to do. Aaron came out twice to solve the problem on this 1927 door. He had to try 2 locks. The first would not work. He worked around a 2 year old's nap schedule and came in earlier on the second day to accommodate the schedule. Aaron was persistent and did not quit until the correct lock was installed and it worked. This man came to our apartment over by Jefferson Park and he helped us open our front door in no time. He even verified that this was our address, which was very responsible of him. When he fixed the lock, it even started working better. I went to test out with my key and it was functioning smoother. Sometimes a locksmith can damage your lock, but they didn't. Next time I lock myself out, I'll call this place. And they provide a good deal, compared to other locksmiths. They were quick to arrive and communicative about their estimated time of arrival (ETA). They accepted Venmo or Zelle which was convenient, because I don't carry cash. They were even upfront about the quote, most places will not give a quote to overcharge. From the get go they were communicative about their pricing with locks. They also accepted a photo reference. I only waited 15 minutes, every other spot was a 30 minute wait and almost double the price. This place is a deal and so quick!! So glad everything is in good condition as well. Do not use them they are a scam, they sent someone from a different locksmith company, don't answer phone calls, say there gonna do work that they can't accomplish just to get some money out of you. I asked for puck locks on a van they told me they could do it sent someone out when the tech arrived he asked how many I wanted I walked him around the van and showed him where I would like the 3 to be installed he said no problem and he would start at the drivers side door. Once he began he immediately stopped and said he would start at the rear doors I should have stopped him right there. He did the rear doors about 2 hours later told me he need the right hardware and he would be back, an hour later her returned and continued. 4 hours after he initially arrived he told me he was done and couldn't do the side doors bc there too close and his locks are for a LARGE van. I assured him the other vans same make and model at our shop have them, he told me he would like to see them to get the same hardware used to make sure nothing would be broke. Once he arrived after not replying to texts all day he began using his fingers to measure how far the puck locks were off the handle and door trim. I was shocked you need measurements but don't use a tape measure instead you use fingers, not only does he tell me this but he says the door locks will be different from the rear bc he needs to buy new locks. I told him I didn't think it was fair I would have to pay more money to re key the rear lock so they all match. I then told him bc he used fingers to measure didn't communicate and had made many mistakes I would like to speak to his boss and have someone else come out. After this there tech accused me of trying to get free things and get him fired. At the point I asked them to leave. Magically the manager that wasn't present all day and I was told was off until the next day messaged me on yelp saying he is there only tech which I find hard to believe there a dispatch that contacts locksmiths and that they did the 1 lock they came to do and won't help me or even call me to talk about solutions. This people are scammers once he arrived and didn't do the drivers side first it's bc he know he didn't have materials to or know how to do but wanted to get paid for driving out there. They quoted me 295 and charged me 450 crooks. Please learn from my mistake don't use them or reliance. read more
