Since everyone else's food was already at the table, I agreed. The problem is, he never brought it. By the time he returned, he was bringing takeout containers and the bill. I had to remind him that I was still waiting for my chow mein. A minute later, he came back with a small bowl of what appeared to be plain boiled noodles. When I explained that I had ordered chicken chow mein, he told me those were the noodles that go underneath the vegetables. At that point, I was done arguing about it. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't much better. It was bland and lacked the flavor and quality I remember Rice Bowl having in the past. What disappointed me even more was the way my complaint was handled. I brought the issue to the owner's attention, and I felt my concerns were simply disregarded rather than taken seriously or addressed. Mistakes happen in restaurants, and I understand that, but how management responds to a customer when something goes wrong says a lot about the establishment. Rice Bowl has been a longtime Bakersfield restaurant, and I genuinely remember a time when both the food and service were much better.
