I rarely leave reviews, but this experience needs to be shared for safety reasons. During my stay, the front desk issued a key to another individual who then attempted to enter my room. He was pacing the hallway and trying doors. This was extremely alarming and a serious breach of guest security. My wife and I did not feel safe after this incident. On top of that, there were multiple ongoing issues throughout the stay: * Our room keys repeatedly did not work, requiring several trips back to the front desk * Exterior doors were locked, forcing us to walk around the building just to get back inside * Overall, there was a clear lack of control and consistency with basic security procedures This wasn't just an inconvenience--it was a failure of basic safety standards you expect from any hotel. Parking lot entrance is locked so you have to walk all the way around with your luggage, don't ask for anything extra the answer is no, how do you say no extra pillows, we don't have any. This hotel is a 0-star cockroach-infested/cigarette-smelling trainwreck. When we checked in, we were given a room that reeked of cigarette smoke. This is interesting because the facility is supposed to smoke-free in terms of the rooms AND I had to sign a waiver that said if I smoked in the room, I would have to pay a $250 cleaning fee. We immediately went downstairs and requested another room. Fast forward to the morning after, we found a cockroach in our new room. We went downstairs to immediately report it and request a refund/discount, but we were shut down and told to contact the manager. I spent three days trying to contact the manager via email and phone. No answer. I reached out to the corporate office and talked to a representative who was very rude and unreceptive. In essence, the property obviously doesn't care that their rooms smell of smoke and that there are cockroaches on the premises. And they obviously don't care about their guests. Finally, to add, the pool was not even filled/open. The place is a dump. And the staff was rude to boot. Bottom line? Stay somewhere else. The rooms aren't worth $8.99, let alone $89. read more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS "HOTEL" This is BY FAR the most disgusting, unsafe, unsanitary, unethical, hotel I have very seen. Beyond that, Ive never experienced such a TERRIBLE display of customer service. On September 21, my husband and I attempted to stay at Best Western Des Plaines Inn. I booked this getaway along with dinner plans as a special evening sfter my husband's father suddenly passed away. This should have been as easy, care-free, and relaxing evening. Best Western Des Plaines Inn made sure our evening was anything but easy, or relaxing. Immediately upon walking in, we noticed all the back and side doors (there were at least 3) had signs posted "out of order, please use front door." The parking lot is all the way behind the hotel which mesnt you had to walk all the way around to the front of the hotel with your bags and all, just to get inside. Imagine being disabled, in wheeling chair, single parent/guadeian with stroller or car seat. Next thing we noticed were the floors, hallway and lobby area being reslly dirty and not maintained. The floors were very visibly dorty, and had gum marks all over. We walked past the pool, which was also closed. After checking in with MJ, we went to the elevator to notice the condition of it was EXTREMELY UNSAFE. The elevator was in such poor condition thst you would stick your arm strivht through to the elevator shaft. This could end someone in the hospital, or worse. Elevators are known for fatal injuries. Once we got into the hallway of the floor our room was on, we noticed many no smokjng signs, but it REEKED of cigarette smoke. We went to our room and IMMEDIATELY was disgusted by the condition of the room. It was tiny for the rpice we psid, broken tiles and bad craftsmanship and maintenance throughout the room. The appliances in the room were so old and yellowed, and really beat up. There were multiple yucky looking drip-like spots/stains on the headboard of the bed. After further inspection of the room, I found a human fingernail near the trashcan. So, it was clear the room was not vaccuumed throughly between guests. The bed spread clearly was not washed between guests, as it was completely wrinkled. Aside from it just not being washed, there were many snags and it was so cheap, no comforter, just a thin blanket. Even in the summer, for $200 a night I would expect nice bedding. Possibly worst of all, MOLD found on the air conditioning unit. Exposure to such will certainly leave a person sick. Within minutes of checking into the room and noticing so many unpleasant and unacceptable conditions, I tried calling down to the front desk from the room phone at least 10 times within 45 mins. Only one time the phone was answered and I was asked to hold, but then no one returned to the phone. During the time Id been trying to reach someone from my room, my husband went down to the lobby to see that no one was manning the desk, but one staff outside, unknown what he was doing. After so many attempts to call via the room phone, I went down to the lobby myself to find a hotel staff, MJ, who was taking a personal facetime call on their cellphone, and made me wait for him to finish his sentence/thought while I stood there and waited to be acknowledged. Then when he did come to attend to me, he basically said, "whats up?" or "whats going on?" He offered nothing to make me comfortable or happy with the stay. Did not offer another, cleaner room, nothing!!! He hardly apologized for the concerns I raised. After this interaction, I can only assume he was ignoring my calls. I was told no one could help me until Monday morning. I was so appalled snd disgusted by the unsafe and unsanitary conditions, and the terrible customer service, we left after only an hour snd half of being checked in. It did not feel safe to sleep in a room with moñd on the air conditioning unit and all the other things I noted. We did not sleep there, we did not return at all. When I tried to call the hotel monday morning to speak with a manager, I called multiple time with no answer, and there was no where to leave a message. I dont understand how a business like this could even stay open. I have stayed in many other hotels that have in-room whirlpool that were much cheaper and incomparable regarding cleanliness and customer service. Safety should be #1 priority for businesses!!! Someone could get seriously hurt in that elevator!!! The main reason for this booking was a romantic getaway from home and kids, after my husbands father suddenly passed away. This "hotel" experience nearly ruined our night, and absolutely caused a ton of stress on a night that was meant to be relaxing and enjoyable. NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL. ABSOLUTELY MY WORST HOTEL STAY EVER!!!!! Do not go here!!! Customer service awful and sanitation even worse! My fiance and I checked in late cause our flight didn't land till about 10pm. It started with a broken door handle to which the guy at the front desk actually had to come upstairs and jimmy rig the door open for us (first red flag), then upon getting into the room and trying to settle in we find out the tv did not work and called back down to guest service about it and we were stuck on the phone for like 10-15 mins trying to get it working (it never ended up working). After the long day of traveling we decided to say screw the tv and we would watch something off our computer after we shower and get ready for bed. This is when the nightmare really begins! We find there is still trash left in one of the garbage cans, then as I go to shower I close the door and there were still used towels from the previous guest and hair from someone shaving in the shower! My fiance then calls out to me to tell me there was what looked like a dried booger or phlegm in the hand washing sink! We were disgusted! Guest services didn't seem to care very much about our situation and just said they had no other rooms like the one we booked to switch us (not like another room was gonna make me feel like I was in a clean facility anyways when the same cleaning staff clean all the rooms and obviously don't do their job)! We stuck out one night because of how late we got in and had a wedding in the morning (slept in hoodie, sweatpants and socks because we couldn't trust the cleanliness of the sheets at this point) but instantly opted to leave this place in the morning and go to another hotel! When calling back Monday because weekends there is no manager on premise she proceeded to tell me she would not refund me for my reservation even though I did not stay! I said I'd be willing to pay for the one night even though it was atrocious but the other 3 I should be compensated for due to the lack of cleanliness and amenities not working (tv, room door and half of the outlets)! People partying all night, making noise, running up and down the hallway throughout the night and the front desk will do nothing about it. As to the room, the bed is awful, curtains ripped and falling apart and the walls are paper thin. My family is in town for our Mother's 90th birthday and this hotel is 3 blocks from her home. The rooms were nice, breakfast was good, service was fine. Our biggest complaint was the pool. We went for our daughter's 4th birthday and she loves to swim, so that was our only goal. The room was semi cold our first night and the water was decent enough to push through, but the next morning it was freezing cold in the room. It was like they turned off the heat for the night, which hey great job conserving energy, but it's January! They should have put the heat way up early in the morning for morning swimmers. We couldn't even get in. I'm not exaggerating when I say there was literally ice frozen on the inside window frame (check the pics!) Worst Customer Service ever. I called more than the 24 hrs prior to cancel the last day of my stay at the hotel. The policy clearly states that as long as you call more than 24 hours prior they would refund. However, that is a lie. I called 4 times however they kept my money. I showed up for the first night and was not surprised to find a filthy unkempt hotel. There were stains and hairs on the sheet. I'm questioning if they had been changed prior to my arrival. I wish I could rate it negative 5 stars. Horrible guest service. This property management neglected to list or post their ongoing construction that was limiting the guest ability to park. Upon check-in we were told to park in the handicap spaces. This is illegal and disrespectful to our disabled citizens, not to mention the potential $250 fine. Then the front desk clerk suggested we park at the gas station next door. This is also illegal and could warrant being towed. Her third suggestion was to cross the four lane busy street and park in the residential neighborhood and lug or luggage back across the busy street. When we objected to her suggestions and requested a full refund she and the manager refused. We are disputing the charge with our bank, as well as filing complaints with Best Western Corporate, the Better Business Bureau, The Des Plaines, Illinois Chamber of Commerce and sharing our experience on every platform available. We ended up booking superior accommodations at the Marriott Courtyard in Schaumburg. The front desk clerk there was amazing. Message to Best Western Corporate, send someone to this Best Western property to properly train your staff and review your refund policy when your brand fails to provide what they promise in writing. I will update this review if Best Western decides to make things right, do business in good faith and provide a complete refund for the stay that never happened. read more

Wow! Who knew a hotel stay could be so stressful..... The carpets are sprayed with this horrible fake apple cover up spray...(I had a head ache from the smell about 10 minutes of entering. And one night the front desk was knocking on our door (about 10:30 at night!) to tell us it smelled like smoke and "we're we smoking?" I guess this wouldn't bother me so much if I weren't staying there for my Dads funeral- who died of lung cancer. WE DO NOT SMOKE!!! About a week later I was over drawn in my bank account. After all of that, the hotel had charged me $255.00 for smoking! My husband went back and forth on the phone with the Manager who said "oooo sorry sorry! Ill reverse the charge." It's been a week. Still haven't seen the money. Is this legal? I believe this best western is trying to charge people after they have left hoping they don't notice! Had a completely terrible experience. I was woken up at 7:30 in the morning to the lock on the door clicking and a woman entering my room. She kept approaching my bed and I sat up then she ran away. The staff dismissed it and treated it like it never happened. They told me to get over it. That's NOT what I pay money for. I worked hard to afford this hotel room and I'm sad this was my experience, but I'm also aggravated that I've tried talking to managers about it at least 4 times and they keep dismissing me and telling me they'll call me back and never do. The staff is really polite. They have a really comfortable hot tub or jacuzzi which no other hotel or motel offers. It is their breakfasts that are lacking in variety and freshness. Now my transactions have cleared, i have two expenses from this hotel. I called the hotel the next day and the owners wife was so rude! We have been here a week. The staff is gracious and responsive. The housekeeping staff is truly fabulous. The rooms are recently repainted and nicely decorated. The microwave, mini fridge and tv all work well. The hvac works well and quietly. The room is nicely sized. BUT we have had to have our key cards rekeyed and rekeyed and rekeyed. The card can fail between outside pass lock to room door. The hotel needs to invest in a new encoder and new batch of key cards. This is very frustrating. read more

At 3:00 a.m. our hotel room deadbolt was unlocked (with a key card by an uninvited stranger) and the only reason that person was not standing in our room in the middle of the night was because of the safety latch on the top of the door. We used this hotel for Park, Sleep, Fly. Check in was quick, and the shuttle to the airport was easily arranged and waiting for us - on time - in the morning. The room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, when we returned to the airport after our trip and called for the shuttle to come get us, we were told that, "It will be a while" because it was on another trip, and that we would have to go to the shuttle pickup building for pickup. We were at O'Hare, and that building is way, way, waaaay far away from the terminals, especially when you have luggage and just got off your flight and you're tired! We ended up taking a cab back to the hotel to pick up our car instead of waiting for the shuttle. Otherwise, it was a good experience. read more

I booked a room as usual to relax.. it was until the next morning before work I decided to run the Jacuzzi tub and by surprise black stuff filled my tub. I left it full and made a formal complaint to the person at the front desk which said I will have maintenance inspect and get back to you by end day, no call. At this point I was very upset poor customer service. I proceeded to call corporate the next day and make a complaint as well . I finally get a call and the lady says " its the frozen pipes that caused this problem". Really???? any plumber will tell you that this will cause problems in the whole hotel and not just the tub. So your telling me frozen pipes right??? so everyone there showered and drank the nasty pipe water as well. they offered a 20 dollar discount for not being able to use my tub. upset customer! BEWARE OF HIDDEN CAMERAS AND/OR MICROPHONES.... for the record the website forced me to give 1 star in order to leave review cause it sure would have been zero stars... just stayed here 2 days ago. 2 hours in to my stay I started to hear a tone as if a Bluetooth device was going low on power. At first I thought I was hearing things til my girl heard the same thing coming from by the closet. I searched the area n couldn't find it but the tone kept coming every 10-12 minutes which had me more suspicious of a Bluetooth device since it was kind of a calculated repeat of the tone. I called to have someone check my room and was told nobody is in to check it out. I then asked to b moved to another room and was told there are none available so I asked for a refund and was assured a couple times I can check out and the day shit manager will help me with my refund. I checked out and checked in to another room a few miles away. I called the following day and spoke with a very rude manager that told me there's no refund and it was my choice to leave. She said they didn't find anything but they switched the fridge I have no idea how or y a fridge has a speaker that will give out a tone sound but she wouldn't help me any further. Even told me there's nobody above her I can speak with as rudely as ever. I'll never again stay at this best western and I advise if u do to do a very deep scan of the room for electronic devices cause I'm 99% sure a fridge wouldn't make the noise I heard read more

Lot of chemical odors in the building, which smelled like recent renovation, especially in the indoor swimming pool room, which smelled like paint. Not a good choice if you are looking for good staff attitudes and efficient shuttle service. We used this hotel for Stay and Fly. The hotel building itself is outdated but the room seemed to have been updated except for the bathroom. When I tried to check in, there was no clerk at the desk. After calling out a couple times, I finally called the hotel number. She came out and without apologizing or even greeting me, just asked my name. Very rude and offputting. The shuttle in the morning was on time and ready. The morning clerk was much sweeter and let my kids eat breakfast even though it wasn't really open yet. They even accomodated my 2 carseats for the shuttle and stored them while we were gone. The shuttle back from the airport was a nightmare. We had been told to call when we landed, which is what we did. But our plane got stuck on the runway waiting for our gate to open so we were delayed 20 minutes. When we called to let them know we were late, we were reprimanded for not being at the correct door on time. The clerk was very rude and said it was our fault we missed the shuttle, but that she would send him back. After waiting another 45 minutes, we called for an update but could only get an automatic voicemail. He finally showed up over an hour later. The driver was nice and apologized but after a 3 hour flight and an hour wait with 2 children under 3, we were spent. When we arrived back at the hotel, the clerk at the desk was on her personal cell phone and didn't even acknowledge me. I would give them zero stars if I could. On February 6, 2018 at 11:30am I called this Best Western and spoke to Alan in regards to booking a block of hotel rooms for my wedding. Alan asked for my credit card number to hold the rooms. I was hesitant to provide my card information, but he assured me it was just to hold the rooms and I would not be charged. I wrote down what he told me and still have that documentation. "Best Western 1231 Lee St Des Plaines, IL 60018 (847) 297- 2100 Spoke to Alan $84.99 + tax / night 2 people $94.99 + tax / night 4 people under my name 8/9 2pm - 8/11 11am Reserve by July 1st or rooms will be released." I also provided this info on wedding website. However, while I was on my honeymoon I checked my account and noticed a charge from Best Western when I never reserved a room for myself or stayed there, never signed anything, and never agreed to any charges. I called and spoke with manager Selma who claimed that I was told I had to take my own reservations and call and cancel them by July 1st which I was never told and never agreed to. Now they are charging my card for services I never requested, used, or agreed to. I tried contacting their customer service and they still will not isssue a refund when they are the ones at fault. (Not because of the hotel stay; I would've given 3.5* however ) Me and my family walked in to this hotel for an unplanned staycation coz my sister and her 3 y/o daughter decided to come visit me and my bf, so I suggested to just check in to this hotel since it's not that pricey and there's a heated pool for my little niece to enjoy and a lil bit closer to our house. Like c'mon! Hotels are supposed to be a place for hospitality and expect a bit more decency from the staff but they're fighting like they don't care if they'd get negative reviews from guests or scare us and forget their manners! She asked me a question and would then put her finger as to say wait a minute so she could hear the person she was talking to. This went on and on. I was almost done and then another guest showed up, she dropped everything to answer his questions. I then asked her if you could just finish up with me and move onto him. She threw her hands up in the air and asked me who I thought I was, she yelled at me in front of the other guest and me 5 year old daughter that she is very busy and the only one there. I did not react to her. The last thing she asked me was for a credit card for a deposit, I did not have one so she said the only way I could stay there was to give her $350.00 cash, I had it so I did. I then asked for a receipt and that's when she became even more irate, she said they do not give receipts for cash deposits. I asked her to write down the dollar amount I gave her and to sign her name. She reluctantly grabbed a blank piece of paper slammed it down on the counter infront of me, nodding her head and wrote hard and very big $350.00 and then wrote her initials very small. I looked at it and asked her to sign it. She huffed and puffed as she proceeded to talk on the phone and refused to sign the paper. I took the paper and we moved onto our room. When we were checking out there was a different person(small indian ) at the front desk. I told him about the cash deposit, he walked away for awhile, came back and then told me they have no record of it.I went to look for the paper she initialed but could not find it on me so I ran back upstairs. The door was wide open and housecleaning was in there minutes after we left the room before even checking out. I could not find the paper and asked housecleaning but they refused to answer my questions or let me look thouroughly and spoke bad English. I back to the front desk and explained the paper Selma initialed and asked if he could contact her. He absolutely refused and said this is not their procedure and that the require a credit card for a deposit not cash. I couldn't believe it. I asked for his supervisor but he also refused to provide ANY information. I walked around to see if I could find someone, but could only find housekeeping. I then went back to the man and insisted he give my $350.00 deposit back and told me to leave. I called the police and they said they could not help and I would have to take them to court. I called the Best Western Customer service # and they contacted them to get there side of the story and stated its my word against theirs. I am calling the bbb and Chamber of Commerce to get the owners name. read more
