Checkin process was very easy and the rooms were spacious and very clean. I would have given this hotel 5 stars but not having any parking options or ice makers brought it down a star. We used Spot Hero for valet parking at the Marriott Courtyard and the front desk did provide us with some ice. Having the breakfast buffet included in the room rate was a nice feature. One downside was that the rooms are not sound proof. You can hear everything in the hallway, and from the 10th floor you can hear sirens from the streets below. The rooms have blackout curtains which do a great job blocking any light. The comforter is a little thin but the beds are comfortable. Was pleasantly surprised by the huge breakfast buffet that was included with the room fare. There are rows and rows of hot dishes, like scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, beans, and breakfast burritos. There's also a large selection of pastries and breads, fresh fruit, sliced cheese, and sliced meats. The breakfast selection varies a little bit each day. For drinks there's juice, hot tea, and coffee. Everything I tried was pretty good, especially the guacamole and oatmeal. The guacamole was super fresh and flavorful, and the oatmeal is made with cinnamon milk and is lightly sweetened. Double check your breakfast dishes though, because multiple dishes and mugs I grabbed had old food or lipstick stains on them.

I have been to Cabra a couple of years ago, this is the restaurant/bar area at the roof. This is also a good place for a fun vibe in the area. We had brunch at CIRA before checking out. Everything is delicious and very satisfying. I will book a room here again. The hotel was also incredibly clean - housekeeping is fantastic. Vivian at the front desk really went above and beyond to warmly welcome me and resolve a billing issue with my company. The entire front of house staff was lovely. George, manager of Cabra on the roof, was also so kind and hospitable! We had drinks in the lobby, the roof, and speakeasy downstairs and each experience was really nice. I'm confused by some of the negative reviews - I will absolutely stay here again next time I'm in Chicago.

At that time, there were multiple premium seating sections and couches sitting completely empty. We asked if we could sit down, order drinks, and enjoy the remaining time before closing. We were told by both bartenders that we could not sit in those areas because they were reserved for premium seating. When we questioned the decision, we were specifically told that Ashley, the hotel manager, agreed with their position and would not allow us to sit there. What made this particularly frustrating was that there were only 30 minutes left before closing, several premium sections remained empty, and we made it clear that we intended to order drinks. We were paying hotel guests, not people asking for something for free. Instead of accommodating two paying guests, the staff chose to leave multiple seating areas empty for hypothetical reservations that never materialized before closing. AND WE STAYED TO WATCH AND SEE!! As two Black women, the interaction left us feeling unwelcome and undervalued. Whether that was the intent or not, that was the impact. Hospitality should be about making guests feel welcome, especially when there is a reasonable opportunity to do so. We left highly dissatisfied with the service and the lack of customer care shown by the rooftop staff and management. My cons: If you're traveling with more than 2 people, the rooms with 2 beds have no views. Our room looked straight into another building, so we never opened the blinds. The room was a little small and the bathroom door is a sliding barn style door, so there is no privacy. Also, our shower leaked because the water came out with the force of an open hydrant. The channels on the TV were limited. My pros: The shower was amazing. Instantly hot, and the water pressure was like the force of a hydrant. Hubby said the water pressure could blow the barnacles off a ship. Housekeeping replaced our towels that we used to mop up the floor every day. I know the place is clean, because the white towels were still white after mopping up the shower water. Its central to just about anything you could want to eat, buy or do. Parking is offside about a block away. We were here for work, and the Arlo was their recommended establishment. I wouldn't mind coming back for a long weekend of sightseeing. Espresso machine in the room, but it would be nice if there was free coffee in the lobby. Although we had our pick of 4 different Starbucks locations withing one block in any direction. Pro tip, instead of unloading luggage the bus stop area in front of the hotel, swoop around to the dark and scary alley. There is a back entrance with luggage carts and there is much less traffic.

And speaking of the bathroom, ours had a motion sensor light that would blast me with photons in the middle of the night, which really disrupts my sleep. And speaking of photons, the TV mounted at the foot of the bed was the kind that doesn't actually turn all the way off, bathing the room in an eerie bluish glow all night. And don't do the prepaid breakfast! It seemed like a good deal on the website, but once you get there you'll be told it's only valid for a few breakfast options. Basically all you get for the prepaid breakfast is a free coffee/tea, because the items you can choose all cost the same as the prepay. (If this information is on the website, it's very hard to find, or at least it was when I booked.)

I booked through American Express Travel, a few days before my trip, received an email directly from the Fairmont offering me the opportunity to upgrade to a King Suite at a very reasonable price. The email stated the upgrade was based on availability, which I completely understood. When I checked in, I asked if the upgrade was available and was told yes. However, after getting to my room, it appeared to be the same room type I had originally booked. I went back to the front desk to make sure I wasn't being charged for the upgrade. I wasn't angry or being demanding, I just wanted to verify I wasn't being charged the upgrade and if it was available could we get into an upgraded room at the price that was sent to me in the email. The staff member confirmed I wasn't being charged more, and when I showed him the upgrade email (which came directly from the Fairmont), he checked the computer, excused himself and went in back and spoke with his manager. When he returned, he told me none of those rooms were available and mentioned they wouldn't see upgrade request because I booked through Amex Travel, but I could check back throughout my stay. (I wasn't going to move after the first night because I don't feel It's worth it on a 3 night stay.) That explanation didn't quite make sense since the email came directly from the hotel. Whether it was a misunderstanding or something else, the experience left me feeling disappointed especially since it was something I was willing to pay for. The room itself was clean and comfortable but on the smaller side. I was also surprised that it didn't include either a microwave or a refrigerator, amenities I often expect at this price point. Another downside was the additional daily "Urban Experience" fee, which felt more like an extra mandatory charge than something that added meaningful value. Valet parking was also extremely expensive at $88 per day. Breakfast was good, but the morning food service was noticeably slow. On the positive side, every employee I interacted with was friendly and professional, and despite being downtown on a weekend, the hotel was impressively quiet, making for a restful night's sleep. Overall, the hotel wasn't bad, but between the confusing upgrade experience, the additional fees, expensive parking, and lack of some basic room amenities, I don't feel the value matched the price. Honestly, I've run into hotels who really weren't happy about me booking through AMEX instead of them and this felt like one of those times. I feel if they aren't happy with customers booking through AMEX then stop partnering with AMEX. Don't put that on your customers who are just looking for the best price. Also, if I'm showing you an email from Fairmont.Chicago@nor1upgrades.com don't attempt to tell me it's from AMEX just because you don't like the pricing. There are enough comparable hotels in the area that I would likely stay somewhere else on my next visit.

Terrible Hotel…read more... We arrived at night and for some reason their system was down for credit cards for the deposit of the hotel so the front desk said they would have us to a CC authorization form and when the system is back up they will charge. Next day security locked me out of my room and when i asked the front desk they said because theirs no credit card on file for the deposit. Absolutely unacceptable and unreal what kind of low budget low class activity is that? To lock a guest out of a room like that and then the employee tried to apologize for the mistake. The hotel is super mediocre as well.
