Just okay. The front desk was super nice, albeit he wasn't the attentive given that he was watching the World Cup with one AirPod in. The rooms were just okay. They were spacious but the beds didn't feel that clean. The bathroom wasn't great. Water got everywhere because of how the shower door is designed and the bathroom is SO small. For reference, I am a petite 5'2" girl. If I stood next to the shower entrance, i couldn't even open the bathroom door. You have to get in the shower to open it, or literally be sitting on the toilet. The location to the beach was great though! And the fire pits were a nice touch. You just needed to bring your own lighter and s'mores materials if you plan on using it. read more

This. Place. SUCKS! You can hear EVERYTHING. The engines and security beeps of every car in the parking lot. The obnoxious kids running and yelling endlessly up and down the hallway outside your door. The neighbor's TV and conversation and snoring in every room adjacent to your own. Every door opening and closing all night long.... And that's just OUTSIDE your room. Inside, the AC/fan is loud and the beds creak and groan every time you breathe. I barely slept might #1 and judging by the crowd of elephants that just entered the room next door, I won't get much more tonight as I'm typing this at 11 PM. The layout of the room is awful. As soon as someone opens the door, everyone inside is blasted by either the outdoor lights or the sun. The bathroom is ridiculously tiny. You can barely get inside to close the door to use the toilet. The shower curtain bar was falling out of the wall, drooping, and causing the curtain to continously slip to the middle of the bar, letting all the shower spray out onto the floor. And nevermind any soft or adjustable lighting--it's all harsh, bright light ricocheting across mirrors so no one can sleep if one person is up. The floor creaks when you walk and was filthy and gritty when we arrived. There's mildew and mold in most corners and all over the bathroom. The toilet seat is such flimsy, cheap plastic you can't sit on it without it sliding half of the toilet or bowing under you. Did I mention that you will hear all the screaming and crying children on either side of you all hours of the night? The parking lot was NEVER full, but the place still put everyone in consecutive rooms when clearly there were empty rooms that could have been used to space us all out to make buffers for noise since this place has zero soundproofing. The room as a whole was grimy and dirty. Stuff on the walls, paint peeling, bathroom and bathtub surfaces cracked, rusted, and moldy. Absolutely disgusting. The only positives I can cite are the blackout curtains (worked well) and that there was a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. The continental breakfast was okay, too. But if you actually want to sleep on your trip, don't stay here. This place clearly does not care one bit about helping you get a decent night's rest. Never. Ever. Again. read more

I will preface this with that I'm a diamond level member. I've had many stays through the years. Normally I don't complain about my rooms but when customer sucks and rubs me the wrong way then I get vocal. Evening staff is fine, no problems whatsoever. Morning staff however are rude and will not acknowledge you sometimes. On my first night, I was not given a breakfast pass and was able to get my breakfast with no problem. The following morning I was stopped and was asked if I had my breakfast pass. I let them know I was never given one to which the reply I was met with with is "everyone has to have one" . Lady asked for my room number in which then I was given the ok to eat. Hiccups I don't mind, but what bothers me is the lack of professionalism and politeness. There is a lady who I assume replenishes and oversees the breakfast area. She scowls more than smiles. Honestly, last face I want to see, let alone first thing in the morning. Found a bag a chips and grape branch behind our bed. We were in room 243 from 7/22-7/24. Trash should still be there. The room seemed to be in the middle of repairs. Check photos for reference. We recently stayed at this Best Western and had a very disappointing experience. On our first night, our neighboring room was extremely loud and explicit well past 10 PM and continued almost all night. We understand it was Valentine's Day, but quiet hours still apply. We contacted management three separate times and were told they would address it. However, nothing changed. Eventually, we had to handle the situation ourselves and ask the neighbors to quiet down, which should not have been our responsibility as paying guests. In addition, the air conditioner in our room did not work properly. It was blowing air, but it never cooled the room down, leaving us uncomfortably hot all night. Then, on the morning of checkout, there was no hot water. I was unable to take a shower before leaving. We brought these concerns forward, but instead of acknowledging the issues, management defended each complaint and ultimately chose not to offer any refund or resolution. We understand that occasional issues can happen in any hotel, but the lack of follow-through and customer care was very disappointing. All of that was fine as it's a place to sleep, however, sleeping at this location is nearly impossible as they do renovations well into the night. I've stayed here multiple times in the past for work. Wasn't great but it was fine. Tonight I've got barely like warm water, went to talk to the office and they "younger Indian kid best guess" everything was fine. I told them no the water wasn't hot! They gave me the keys to the next room I went back to tell them the temp was the same. They needed to fix the hot water they agreed to go check it with me. I walked towards my room and he ran off a different direction thinking he would meet up with me. After a few minutes the phone rang telling "me every thing was good" and it wasn't them we had a exchange or words I'll say I was inappropriate for correcting them, but their exchange of words was worse and I got hung up on. I went to the office and nobody was there for 15 minutes or more. After that another young gentle man can in getting dressed and tried the same thing and tried to convince me the water was hot and it wasn't. I gave up and went back to my room. read more

Check in was easy and the receptionist was very professional and helped out with some local tips. The rooms were clean and everything worked. This is an older hotel that needs some renovations but it's clean the walls are thin so you hear a lot of the noise outside like the freeway if your on that side and you will hear the neighbors next door. The beach is within walking distance which is a big plus The staff were very helpful and kind. When Expedia told me "too bad you booked the wrong day no refunds! The hotel graciously rebooked my day so I wasn't out 200.00. Iv stayed here twice and if you're not looking for luxury but a decent place for a decent price with good customers service. Worst Western - No Hot Water, No Comfort I honestly don't know why they call this place Best Western, because it should be called Worst Western. After a long day on my feet, all I wanted was to relax in a nice, hot bath. But to my utter disappointment, there was NO hot water. It took over an hour just to fill up the bathtub, and even then, the water was lukewarm at best. My neck hurts, my feet are sore, and the one thing I was looking forward to--soaking in a hot bath--was completely ruined. I was so excited when I saw the bathtub, thinking I could finally relax. But when I turned on that sad excuse for a faucet, I was crushed. No hot water, no relief, just total frustration. Honestly, I should've gone to Motel 6. At least they have hot water. Taking the family to Monterey for a few days, we wanted a place close to the beach, close to the aquarium, including breakfast of some type, and affordable. Well we found it. This Best Western is literally across the street from the ocean. There is a free public parking lot down the street which parks you close to the beach, otherwise you would be walking 600 yards. The Aquarium was an easy 20 minutes away, which was a breeze to get to, never hit traffic or any issues traveling. The distance was far enough not to be spending $800 per night, but still manageable to get around. There is easy access to the freeway as well as all sorts of stores and restaurants within minutes of the hotel. The breakfast options were really good. They served some form of hot breakfast items every day; eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, waffles, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and the usual continental breakfast items in addition, oatmeal, yogurt, toast, bagels, hard boiled eggs, juice options, coffee, tea, etc. The service staff were friendly and made the experience pleasant. The way the building is set on a hillside makes it easy to get to most of the rooms. The floors are faux hardwood linoleum and it doesn't seem like they sweep or mop the floors between guests, my kids feet were pretty dirty after walking around barefoot. Looking at the wheels on the rolling desk chair. they were pretty nasty. Our AC unit wouldn't cool and we just assumed they were all like that, but we noticed as were checking out, other AC units sounded different and were actually putting out cold air. Besides those two things, the stay was great and we would definitely stay there again. read more

I never, and I mean NEVER leave reviews, but after visiting this "hotel" I could never in good faith not write a review about this place. I want to start off with I was in a rush when booking and I booked through my credit card portal, so the reviews/photos were a bit misleading. That was my fault and I should have viewed Google and/or Yelp before booking. When I first got there, absolute dump. I was scared to even get out of my car. The place looks so run down (and is!), courtyard is filthy, and staff were questionable. I arrived between 5-5:30pm (2-2.5hrs after check-in) and was given my room key to a room that was no where near clean and ready (my door was ajar with trash and half-made beds, etc.). I went back to the front desk notifying the lady my room was no where near ready and she said "sorry, we're short staffed, nothing I can do about it." I then asked if she had another room available as I had been driving all day and was ready to check in and unwind. She told me "nope, all booked out." So, I waited another hour before nudging a cleaning lady to check in on the status of my room, and she said "oh, I didn't know someone was supposed to be staying in that room - I'll get it cleaned ASAP for you." That meant I'd have to wait even longer than I already had. The same cleaning lady then asked me if I'd like to stay in a different room that she had just cleaned, which was shocking considering the front desk lady told me there were no other available rooms. I didn't feel comfortable with the location of the room as I was solo traveling/had my puppy with me, so I said at this point I'll wait for her to finish up with my room. Then, the front desk lady told me she had ANOTHER room available, which again, how did you go from being completely booked out to now having two rooms available. I ended up accepting that room and was absolutely mortified with what I walked into. The door is on its last life and a fly could probably barge right through it. Speaking of flies, there were multiple swarming around my room when I entered, as well as multiple bugs on the walls and floors. The room looked like it hadn't seen a broom, mop, anything since the building was built. The bathroom was disgusting, dirty and hairs everywhere, and there was no hot water. I didn't even let my puppy touch the ground fearful that he'd get into something. At this point, I had already made the decision to check-out and go to a new hotel. The issue was, most places were booked out for the night due to the holiday weekend, or couldn't accommodate dogs. It took everything in me to stay there for the night. As I was getting ready for bed, I noticed something crawling on my PILLOW!! I truly wanted to cry. Oh, and on top of everything, you can hear literally EVERYTHING from every direction. I forced myself to sleep for a little and checked myself out at 7am. I know it's a cheap hotel and cheap is what it was! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! read more

At first sight the room was very nice. Spacious. Very nice area. BUT... when we went to take a shower.. the shower head was leaking, shower was cold and the tub was not draining. There was no smoke detector, There was gunk and build up with TONS of hair in the drain. It took over an hour to drain after having to wash our feet separately .This was totally unsanitary. We asked the front desk to have maintenance come, but they in a round about said they were not on sight and they couldn't move us because the king room was sold out, so I asked them to comp us until 1 PM. The next morning I asked the front desk to speak to manager to possibly partially refund us, I was told I should get an answer by 1 PM. At 1215 room service came knocking on the door stating we only had until 12. When I told them I was given until 1 they left and proceeded to make all kinds noises slamming trash bags and whatever else in front of my door. We booked room 236 and were horrified when we saw it. We are used to Best Western rooms usually being decently designed and appointed, but this one was like a prison cell. Lighting was awful, furniture and bedspread were depressing. I asked for another room and was told there were none available. I asked for a refund and was denied. This was a nonrefundable room, paid in full for two nights, but I said BW grossly misrepresented the quality of the room on their website. I booked a different hotel and informed the receptionist that I would not be using the room. I proceeded over the next two months to request a refund because this hotel does not meet the usual BW standards and they misrepresented, on their website, how the room would look. They denied my request, claiming they offered a better room to me and I declined the upgrade. This is a flagrant lie. I will never stay at a Best Western again as their customer service this time was horrendous. read more

Pros: updated room, headboard with multiple outlets and charging ports, spacious room. Cons: shortcuts clearly taken when updating the room, rusty hinges, unsealed door which meant huge cracks that allowed the bright light from outside to shine inside the whole night, questionable clientele, bathtub drain was incredibly gross and needed a really good cleaning. Honestly, we did feel a little unsafe based on the questionable people just hanging out around the hotel at night. Nothing ever happened, but those "what if" thoughts were still there. Overall if you're looking for a basic, budget friendly, low maintenance room close to the beach, this would be an okay place. We will not be returning only because there are other hotels closer to Monterey within the same price range that meet our desired needs. read more

First things first the room smelled like urine, sheets were stained and had burn marks on it, lied about having a pool, found insects crawling on the floor, breakfast was HORRIBLE, holes in the walls of my room, no tv remote to be found, tiniest amount of space. This place is hella nasty. The photos posted above are not accurate anymore. The rooms are updated but the outside is rusty, dusty and crusty. The inside basically is too. My daughter was walking around on the floor and her feet were filthy and the bottom. The toilet was broken when we got there, so I had to fix it TWICE during our stay. The walls are thin as hell so I heard the neighbors having loud sex in the middle of the night. There was a pile of trash by the parking lot that was there for the two nights I stayed, and all the garbage bins were over flowing. It was really hella nasty. The door handle to my room was filthy, sandy and needed to be wiped down. I called downstairs to tell them I would be staying another night, I guess they didn't tell the cleaning lady that so she knocked on the door EVERY HOUR until I had to get up and tell her I'm staying. So then the guy downstairs calls and aggressively says "you need to come pay for your room". I thought they did the whole card on file system but I guess not. The fridge in the room is for show because it didn't work. Wtf. This place is disgusting. The beds are comfortable. You can walk to the beach. read more

I was looking for a hotel in Carmel or Monterrey and the prices were crazy expensive so I figured if I went North a little the pricing would improve and it did. For about 1/3 of the cost of a room in Carmel I got a clean room with a King sized bed, coffee maker, mini fridge & loveseat sized couch. It felt very spacious inside. Plenty of free parking which was just steps away from the room. Felt very safe as there isn't much around the hotel, so no walking traffic or sketchy alleyways nearby. The best part about this hotel is that it is across from a State beach. We strolled the beach in the morning before heading out to Carmel and then returned to watch the sunset that evening. I saw some dolphins, a couple of seals and a even some whales off of the coast (binoculars would've been awesome). I was beyond stoked! As for the hotel, it's newly remodeled and a great budget friendly choice. The bed was really comfortable, the check-in was quick and painless and the continental breakfast was what you'd expect -bland eggs, questionable sausage, a fun waffle machine and some delicious kind of citrus juice. When I checked in I saw the CUTEST baby skunk walking around. It was great until I had to get to my room. Then it was a little nerve wracking trying to keep tabs on it while we unloaded our stuff. So just be aware there is a lot of native area/open space near the hotel and you may meet some furry neighbors during your visit. Pros: cost, relaxing beach, clean room, easy access to H1 at end of the street, fast food, gas & Walmart all only minutes away. Less than 20 minutes to Cannery Row, 17 Mile Drive & Carmel Cons: I didn't turn on the fan in the bathroom when I took a shower and it set the fire alarm off. Not cool. I'd chalk this up to a design flaw (sensor too close to bathroom) but it's an easy fix - Use your fan! PAPER THIN Walls-like you can really hear conversations in the next room and anyone walking by. I just kept my tv on low to mask any noise. The property was actually pretty quiet overall and I didn't hear any noise from the highway. I probably would not want a room overlooking the highway though. If I ever come back this way I would definitely stay here again. read more

Shower was kinda moldy. Patched up walls and bathroom fan looked like it was going fall out of the ceiling. I know you don't get a lot for your money at the coast. But for $280 for a night....I expected a lot more. Plus the people next to us started partying at 1:30 am. The wall was so thin it felt like they were in the room with us. Felt very pleased with our overnight stay here and would recommend it for a quick stay. We had a half marathon early the following morning, and this was close to where we needed to be. It was dark by the time we checked in and too foggy in the wee early a.m. hour, so unfortunately I can not describe exactly the surroundings except that the location felt tucked away. When we were checking in at 10:00 pm, the clerks sent us to a room that already had guests in it. We tried unlocking the door with the key, and when the door unlocked and we Wheat to open, the knob turned but the door wouldn't push. Clearly the inside lock was engaged. We went back to tell the front desk what happened, and their solution was to give another key and say to try again. When we went back, the same thing happened, only this time the phone was ringing inside the room and we could hear a groggy and confused guest answer the phone. We went back to the front desk and let them know what happened and that we obviously knew there was a guest in there. They acted confused and surprised as if they hadn't just called the room minutes earlier to check on their mistake. Then they gave us another room, but it took them 20 minutes to figure out which room they were going to give us. Then there was no remote to the TV. This places sucks. read more

We took a trip for our 30th anniversary and traveled with our daughter and granddaughter. We made arrangements well in advance for 2 rooms side by side. We are best western loyalty members so we felt that the conformation and room #s given to us meant we were set. We arrived and was informed we would not get our rooms. My husband was upset, but tired from traveling, so we went to our rooms. These rooms were very small and uncomfortable, the shampoo and conditioner bottles were used, and the bed was so uncomfortable, I was unable to sleep. The bed had a lump in the middle. I felt like we were staying at an older Motel 6 but paying a higher price. Very disappointed. But other than this less than quality Hotel stay, We had a wonderful time on the coast. read more

Don't be fooled by pictures. Read reviews. When other reviews say shady people what they mean is that this place is a meth head paradise. Rooms appear to look renovated till you're not looking at a picture. Corners were cut and it seems that they painted over complete filth. The room smelled horrible and floors were sticky. The corners of the room were all brown. The tub was dingy and their beds are super uncomfortable. On top of that the pillows would not pass headquarter inspection. They are all lumpy and expired. The most important thing to know is at front desk is the rudest tweaker you will ever come across. The way she treats customers can cost this owner his brand name. Our room was on the top floor and very nice. Looks like freshly renovated. Vinyl floors and nice fixtures. They really stepped it up.
