I'm a local resident who needed 1 night stay since I had plumbing repairs. I checked in, my family from out of town was visiting and stopped by to pick me up for dinner. Not even 30" the man at the front desk incessantly called 5 times on my cell phone and the phone in the room, told me so rudely I can only have I one car. I didn't stay long, the room was dingy, creepy, dirty with furniture from a yard sale. Walls were so thin you could everything going on next door and upstairs. Sorry! This review is for Monterey Pines Apartments!!! i lived there from August 2023 to August 2024. During that time i had renovations going in some apartment next to me the whole year. The worst was the day they boarded up my terrace the last month, so i had no light and i had drilling and constant noise, which was so loud i had to leave. i was trying to pack for a move to the East coast. i begged them to renovate AFTER my move. At the time i was trying to pack but couldn't be home all day; i have videos of it. Then, when i was leaving, the manager said they would change a tiny portion of my living room carpet for $200. i left, behind my $700 deposit. Subsequently, Jacqui (now Jacqueline) charged me an additional thousand dollars for a crappy beige carpet that was in perfect condition. i left the apartment in excellent condition, but left behind a pile of clothes from Paris, which i am sure they sold. They are notorious for such behavior when people vacate. At the time, i complained to Jacqui, but she replied that it was out of her hands. I also had a gas leak the whole year from the fireplace. My neighbor (better view) who came later was paying $200 rent less. They are crooks and gangsters. My friends saw how i was living with no light, no patio (they knocked it off) and constant intense drilling for almost a month at the end of my stay. i should have taken them to court. AVOID this place BY ALL means. They have now sent it to my credit report. i naively thought they would be honest about it, especially considering the intense noise I put up with. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Located right across from the Del Monte Shopping Center and about ten minutes away from the Cannery Row, so it is a good location to stay a few nights. It has its own parking lot and it is a two-story building painted in a nice green. Like other places I have stayed at, this one also has dim lighting. I prefer brighter rooms and have to turn on the lights near the restroom and the lamp in between the beds to get better lighting. The room is rather small, and with multiple people in one room, we had to move our things around or to scoot in the chair to get around. Wall outlets are not convenient. There was one on the side of the bed and the lamp. I wish they had one next to the desk. And big alert! The mini fridge operates more like a freezer! My food and drink became frozen. Thankfully, there was a microwave that we could use to heat it up. And I don't know if they did vacuum well enough or not...parts of the carpet was bumpy and poke my bare feet. However, would I come back here? Yes, I would. Despite these issues, location and price are good, and I'm only here for a short period of time and not spending all my time in the room. read more

We recently spent two nights at this charming and centrally-located Monterey motel. Our room was clean, comfortable, well-maintained, and Andy (the owner), and the the workers were friendly, professional, and accommodating! Also, even though this motel was on a main thoroughfare, it was very quiet in our first-floor room. And speaking of our room (#11), it was most unique with a spa and shower in the corner of the room. A gas fireplace added to the ambience (circa 1980s), but it was good for a chuckle, and I'm sure good in other ways for some guests! Apparently, and for good reason, this room is a favorite of some repeat visitors. All in all, it was a wonderful stay and a pleasant surprise at this motel. I give it a "Five" for it's comfort, quiet, and hospitality, combined with the reasonable price...a true value! read more

The owner, Andy was very nice and helped me with directions around Monterey. The room was fairly clean. Floors were swept, but I think could use a mop as when I took off my socks and walked around my feet got dirty. I don't know if it is because the person before us may have had a pet. Yes, they allow pets. We did not have a pet. The housekeeping service was nice. She gave us a couple more bottles of water than were already in the room. At night there were some noises of neighbors moving around their rooms. There were loud sounds from plumbing whenever the neighbors turned on and used their showers. I recommend this as a place just to sleep and relax, for the price, it is okay. More like a motel. We just slept and relaxed there. On the better side, We really enjoyed the electric fire place in the room. read more

I am extremely impressed at the way they have upgraded their customer service skills, and the location itself has been renovated as well. The room is clean, tidy and welcoming. I would give this inn a 3.5 stars. Needed a place to stay in Monterey during the week for a wedding. A lot of the other hotels were expensive, over $200 and that isn't in our budget right now. So we found this Inn on Booking.com. You get what you pay for. Don't expect an elegant looking inn. Parking is tight, but we were able to park right in front of our door. Seems to be a two story inn. I am not sure if there are elevators to get to the 2nd level. We checked in late and there was about two spots available, but when it was day time I did see some more parking available on the other side of the street blocked off just for the guests. The decor is...not to say anything really about it lack there of. The beds are beds. Nothing fancy or plush like. There was a mini fridge that def kept our drinks cold and when I mean cold almost freezer like!and a microwave. They offered in room tea and coffee. Had a small table with one chair along with a big dresser that a flat screen tv sits on. As for the bathroom, the shower water pressure was very very soft but the water heated up fast. If I need to every stay here on a budget I guess I would, but it's not in the top of my lists. It's located right across from the shopping mall and there are gas stations and liquor stores near by for convenience. The one thing that was great was that I didn't hear our next door neighbors or above us at all so that was a big plus! This room also had AC and it cooled down the room real fast. read more

I apply the same scale for "luxury" hotels as well as "budget" motels as I stay in all types depending on where I am traveling and the purpose. After cleanliness there is no particular order. 1. Cleanliness. Excellent 2. Comfort of bed. Great 3. Comfort of pillows. Are there both firm and soft available. Both were available and were good 4. How new is the room decor and fixtures. Worn 5. Quality of room. This includes size, temperature, smell, lighting. It as a bit warm but opening the window helped. We were able to leave it open all night. 6. Quality of bathroom. This includes size, lighting, ventilation. Functional. 7. Bathroom amenities. These include magnifying mirror, presentation, quantity and quality of toiletries. Softness of tissue and towels. Good towels. Average amenities. 8. Friendliness of staff. Nice man 9. Noise. Road noise, adjacent room noise, air conditioner noise. We were in the back so the noise was minima. 10. Price. Was it worth the price I paid all things considered? This includes proximity to conferences and activities. With tax, which was about 2%, it was $155. I wanted to update this with a fresh perspective. I have given this place 5 stars because I throughly enjoyed my stay here even though there were small hiccups. When researching this place on their website there isn't much insight to what the rooms look like. So I called anyways and booked the place for the fireplace because that was all I was really interested in along with a bathtub. Pros: We got a discount on our room stay, they allowed early check in, Room 11 came with a jacuzzi tub inside of the room, the bathtub was extremely clean to the point that I did not need to deep clean, the bed was comfortable and the sheets and comforter was very clean. I slept like a baby. The complimentary soap, shampoo and makeup wipes worked and smelled great. TV had good channels to pass time, plenty of towels. Has a microwave. Right across the street from local mall and dining. Less than 10 minutes away from Cannery Row and Downtown Monterey. Cons: The refrigerator didn't work but we brought our own ice chest. The jacuzzi jets didn't work but the tub worked great to soak in. I will definitely come back and stay in the same room happily. The fireplace was the main event! Initially I was apprehensive about the place because it looked rather old. But, I later discovered that despite being old, this Inn is well maintained and cared for. The staff, to include Housekeeping, were friendly and caring.  My room surprised me because not only was it neat, clean and orderly, it had a whirlpool/shower setup in the corner, which was rather unique. What surprised me the most was the text I got from the Front Desk welcoming me and to check on how I was doing. They even asked if I have any concerns. This is the first time of all my travels; civilian, military, and leisure in and out of the US that the establishment actually followed up via text. My concerns were noted and minor things (i.e. lamp bulb) was expeditiously taken care of.  Even my reply text was answered rapidly. Highly recommend this Inn if you're visiting the area.  Very convenient walking distance shopping mall across the street. read more

In the face of what appears to be complete abandonment of small businesses by the government, I am doing my best to support them as much as possible. I have no complaints only kudos for this place. It's a small, family owned, super quaint inn that quite frankly puts the large chains to shame. The value for what they offer cannot be beat. I got more out of this place and spent less than I would have anywhere else, even Motel 6 (ICK). The location is close to everything, including Highway 1 - which is the connector to the neighboring towns of Seaside, Salinas, Carmel and Pebble Beach. I loved that the rooms come with a coffee maker as the large chains have done away with them as some weird way of combating COVID-19 - as if you can't sterilize a coffee maker (heavy eye roll). I appreciate being able to check in at 2pm as opposed to the standard 4pm. Dog fee is a mere $25/night. I'll gladly pay it given the low room rate. There are so many ways in which this little place is superior to any chain. I plan on returning sooner rather than later. read more

Nice little motel in a great location just a few minutes from Pebble Beach and Carmel and just down the road from the Aquarium and Wharf. The place seems freshly painted and generally in good shape. The bed is comfy and the bathroom has been updated. The wifi is surprisingly fast, which is great for me because I am working and it's fine for me. The motel is dog friendly and has no weight limit which is also great for me because I travel with a 90 lb Labrador. They charge $25 extra per night per dog. The main problem with the place is the noise. I can understand everything said in the room above me. The door doesn't shut tight so I can hear all the traffic on Munras and everything that is said and going on in the parking lot. The people above me decided to get busy and noisy at 5:30. All the positive stuff is outweighed by the probability that after 3 days here I'll probably be exhausted. I have earplugs at my job site so I'll bring some and wear them tonight. read more

I am a bit surprised at the bad reviews as this did not match our experience at all. Yes, the place is showing it's age but do people really expect opulence for the price? I am super paranoid about bed bugs and so I inspect every room carefully - I strip the bed, look in the creases of the mattress and furniture with a flashlight, etc. This was seriously one of the cleanest mattresses I've ever seen at a hotel. I didn't see a single tear or stain. It really looked brand new. The room was also very clean, and had a mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, iron with full size ironing board and charming selection of mini soaps, shampoos, conditioners and even hair covers for the shower. Our experience at the front desk was friendly and quick, and I was pleasantly surprised by the room. No extra charge for Wi-FI or parking. My main complaints are: 1) the website did not say anything about a pet fee, but we were asked for one upon check in. It was perfectly reasonable ($25), but would've been nice to know in advance. 2) The mattress was on the hard side. 3) We left early and there was no one in the lobby and no instructions on what to do or box for the key, so we just stuffed it in the mail slot. At the end of the day, the location was convenient and the room was clean and affordable. Maybe my expectations are low, but that's all I really need in a motel room. read more

Noting like the pictures they have advertised about! Not clean! Ripped carpet which could make me fall with getting my shoes stuck in there. Fire place had a sign that closed fireplace! Shower had barely water coming out of it. All the furniture were old and damaged like I didn't feel like using any drawers. And over all it was such a sad looking room for $350 spent on small room for two nights. They were so cheap that didn't even bother to pit a radio or clock in the room. We've stayed here before and it was nice for the price. This time we came back we brought our dogs with us. The room smelled awful (not sure why they're charging for pets because it's obvious that they don't thoroughly clean the room after pets have vacated). The room had paint chips falling off the wall, the towels felt like cheap ones that barely covered your body and scratched you up at that. We tried to find another place to stay but couldn't find another hotel within reason of cost so we just dealt with it. If you get the "non-pet friendly" rooms you'll be ok but be prepared if you take your animals. The one pro was for pets the fee was cheap enough. read more

Monterey Pines Inn is a small motel in a line of motels across from a nice shopping center. It's in a nice area, and there are walking trails all around if you have a dog or just like a morning walk in the crisp beach air. It's just a short drive to the beach and central to Monterey State Beach or Carmel beaches, all of which are dog friendly. Also it os very close to Cannery Row and Carmel shops. Recently renovated, and still being updated, they are working on updating an old building. The downstairs rooms have dark wood laminate floors, which I personally prefer for cleanliness, especially as they allow dogs with an added fee. The bed was not bad, and I'm pretty picky as I can only sleep on my back from a past injury. The room was spacious with a small table and 2 chairs, big dresser and flat screen tv. They need to mount the TV on the wall as it would be safer and have better visibility from the bed. Smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector by the door. Air conditioner is in the bathroom area and seems to cool the whole room. The curtains need shears underneath so you can open without the world seeing in. In fact we came back from the beach and found the housekeeper had cleaned and left our curtain open, which I was not happy with as anyone walking by could see our whole room. So let them know if you are going out and don't want the curtain opened! There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The fireplace gave off quite a bit of heat and in the winter I don't think you would need to use the small wall heater on a chilly day. Bathroom was very clean, older tub but spotless. Across the street, walking distance, is a nice shopping plaza with many higher end shops and Whole Foods Market, which is a great place to get snacks, cheese, crackers, wine, beer and more. The WiFi is password protected, and seemed to work well as they have updated it recently. A strange quirk that was a bit of a pain is that the light switch for the sink area is way over by the door to enter the room. Doesn't make sense and needs to be rewired for sure. The walls of our room were missing any pictures, and I'm guessing they will bring those in as they continue to update. Hopefully they will go with a theme as this motel could be decorated really well to give more of an upscale feel. I recommend this place for the price and proximity to all there is to do in the area! read more

We were expecting a prescription medication to be delivered, and when it arrived very late after our departure, the owner mailed it to us! He also provided us a space heater and extra blankets...we had a lovely and cozy time here. The reviews on this motel are inaccurate and deceiving. if you want a one or two star motel this is the one to stay in. the value is a rip off. I made a big mistake booking here but it is very expensive to stay in this area as it is. there's no air-conditioning in any of the rooms. I reserved 2 rooms for our group and during the process for payment I noticed the charge was over $700 so, I went back to see what was charge for ... I have noticed in the box "+$200 deposit.... " and there was(no option to uncheck for to "pay now' or 'in hotel' so I proceeded to pay with out any doubt.....But, when I paid and got confirmation there was no information what I paid for , just a total amount. A few days later I looked for another room to book as another friend wanted to come- there was one last room for the same price $250 so, I happily booked and there was no deposit charged..... ??!! I shared this with my friends and they said that deposit usually returns..... but I expected it will be taken at the hotel but when we all got there- no one asked for the deposit for the 3rd room... I got weird feelings about it but no one wants to pay any extra right? and I didn't want to mention it to anyone.... A few weeks later I remember to check my credit card if deposit was returned and there was no returns so, I called to check if any damage was done andI was told "there was no damage and there was no deposit charged ...... you didn't pay me deposits " the front desk guy told me, when I tried to explain that during the process I saw price being changed and when I went back and saw there was a deposit charge, he rase his voice to me denying that I have not paid him anything and he'll not pay anything back to me... I made a few phone calls and they made up different story .... I requested to speak to the manager- he refused to transfer me to him or give me his contact number. Later someone called me from unknown number and left a message that room prices for 2 queen rooms are higher than for 1 king bed room - which is a BIG LIE - $100 difference, REALLY?? The only thing I didn't like about this place is how thin the walls are. At 7am, you can hear the neighbors walking around and opening doors. Actually at any time you can hear it. It's cozy in the rooms, and the bed was super comfy. They even have extra pillows above the closet area if you need more than the four pillows they provide. With the new owners, this place is a Dump, in our room, there was no hot water and the owner said they will fix it later. Also, it does not meet any ADA American with Disability Act standards. There shower was two big steps up, you then had to sit down turn around, then you had a 3' step down, no rails. If you want to risk your life try to take a shower. Accepts dogs, close to beaches, and generally very clean? That's for me! We stayed here for 5 nights when visiting family who were residing locally. We had our dog with us. I would say the dog fee of $25 is pretty reasonable.. No area for your dogs to go to the bathroom except in the back of the property which is covered in Fox tails! I did opt to walk my dog down and around to a local park which was also not marked as dog friendly so we headed back after he did his business. Also, raccoons are out fighting late at night so keep an eye out and be careful. The water tasted a bit odd so I recommend bringing some gallons of water. This place was super clean! You could tell things had been sanitized in our room. Only downsides for me would be what I mentioned about a lack of an area for pets to toilet that doesn't require exposure to Fox tails as well as shorts within the electrical. The fridge would shut on and off if you needed to plug in something in the outlet. Overall this is a great place within a safe area. Would definitely stay again. read more

Water was hot. The walls and floor are really thin, but no one was being loud so there was no problem. Upon arrival it seemed fine for a night and came recommended; however by late afternoon the loud music and drunk partying were so aggressive I feared leaving the room. It was a Monday and I only needed a safe quiet place for a night. To add to the long sleepless night, an rv parked outside my room was running all night and into the early morning with loud obnoxious occupants. The front desk phone rang and rang with no answer and no voicemail system. Attempts to email the management to alert of the situation were not responded to and when I politely told the front desk person the following morning, they barely responded, offered no apology and no reimbursement. Apparently this is a cheap party/drug spot and not suitable for a safe place to sleep, would not recommend. read more
