We had an amazing stay! From check-in to check-out, we felt completely cared for, relaxed, and happy. Check-in was quick and easy, and because we booked through American Express, we received a complimentary room upgrade. The room was spotless, comfortable, and the fireplace made it feel so cozy. We stayed in a beachfront room, and the beach was just steps from our balcony. We loved the beach bonfires in the evenings and waking up to the sound of the ocean each morning--it was truly peaceful. The only thing we wish had been better was our experience at The Saltwater. While it's a separate restaurant, it's on the property, and if the food and service had been stronger, we wouldn't have needed to leave the resort at all. That said, the in-room breakfast was excellent--always hot, delicious, and right on time. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be back!

Stayed here for my birthday and booked oceanfront suite. It was beautiful. You're literally placed right in front of ocean views with evening bonfires happening just outside. The suite comes with a private patio, a king sized bed, a living area with a sleeper sofa, a wet bar, and a gas fireplace. The whole vibe was calm and relaxing, exactly what I wanted for my birthday. The place definitely met my standards. It's also a pet-friendly resort which I love. I ordered breakfast through room service and everything was good, except they added bacon even though I specifically asked for it to be removed since I don't eat pork. But aside from that, everything was great. Overall, such a peaceful and memorable birthday stay. I's come back again.

Breakfast in my room on the beach.... Yes....... The sound of crashing waves. Yes This place does get pricey but it's worth it.

Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Anything you need staff is always available 24/7. Recommend taking a trip here.

The quality of service is impeccable. The ambience is superb. This is our second time there it's pet friendly and they accommodate your every need. The view is spectacular. The villas are comfortable and spacious and beautiful, but the staff takes care of you like no other we went back there for My fiancé's birthday to go scuba diving enjoying the outdoor activities and views we love it.

This is our second trip and we have loved each visit. This is my wife's favorite place to visit. She absolutely loves everything at the Sanctuary and we have a great time. This trip we never left the grounds! The on site restaurant SaltWood is fantastic. The portions are large and the food is always delicious. Even their burgers are amazing. You can order in room delivery service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The location is the real gem here. A short walk out of your room and you're on the beach. There's plenty of Adirondack chairs and space to spread out. There's also fire pits in the evenings. It's an amazing thing to go to sleep every night hearing the oceans roar. Just so peaceful and soothing. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Call for service and they'll be at your room shortly. There is decent WiFi and the TV has chrome cast so you can stream your shows and movies etc. The bed is very cozy with high quality linens and very comfy. You also have a mini bar fridge and microwave, tea and coffee etc along with some complimentary snacks. The suite was very nice. Huge deep tub with a spray wand, very nice and relaxing. Ample size shower and all well appointed. The room is a nice size with a sofa, coffee table, chairs and a window reading nook that's padded next to the window with great views. The patio is fantastic with large Adirondack chairs, a faux wood stump table and lovely views of the pacific. The price can be a bit much. So I can see that being a turn off for some. But we came in the off-peak season each time and it's much more reasonable. Note, that this is the Monterey Bay and even in summer it can be chilly and windy, so the weather in January is only marginally colder. So it works out great for us. You're not going to get service with someone waiting on you hand and foot. It's not the Ritz. But it's also not a bargain motel. You can get some privacy, have your own little beach cottage feel and unwind and relax. You have to decide if the price is worth it to you.

During my stay for my friend's bachelorette weekend, we took the Friday afternoon Happy Hour Yoga with Elizabeth and the Saturday morning Beach Yoga with Linda. Both classes were completely different but equally wonderful. Elizabeth was patient and accommodating, making the class accessible for a beginner like me. I appreciated her thoughtful guidance and the modifications she provided, which made the experience both enjoyable and educational. Linda brought an amazing energy to Beach Yoga, creating a calming and restorative experience that set the perfect tone for the rest of my day. Highly recommend both classes and instructors--each offers something special! The accommodations were wonderful and I loved our rooms location by the pool. It was central to everything!

A wonderful getaway. We stayed for one night to celebrate our anniversary. Felt very private and upscale. The rooms were very well designed and clean. The bathroom is very spacious - loved the separate vanity area. Every room has a fireplace and a private patio. The coffee in the room was actually good - unlike other hotels with bad coffee. The property doesnt allow vehicles past the lobby so they actually shuttle you around via golf cart. The golf cart guys had excellent customer service. However the front lobby staff needs some work. They were slow to check us in and seemed to not be consistent of their knowledge. The hotel price is very premium and the customer service should match that. Like other reviews mention, it is very pricy at $800 per night on average. I've stayed at many higher end hotels so I can say I understand why people don't think the price is justified. I wouldn't mind staying here again, but I would probably stay on a weeknight or during low season when the price is lower. I did enjoy the beach yoga and the private access to the beach. Keep in mind coming here in the summer it is freezing and foggy which is common for Monterey. I love how dog friendly they are. Overall I would recommend if you don't mind the price.

We had a absolutely AMAZING time here! The service and kindness of all of the staff was unsurpassed. We got an ocean front room and it was breath taking. Yes pricey, but you get what you pay for. We watched the sunset every night and used the fire pits. Went to the restaurant on sight and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. For anyone wondering, the mini bar stuff is INCLUDED with the room, as well as any snack goodies that are stocked. I've never been to a fancy resort and I'm used to them charging for everything but at this resort it's included and they also gave us one of their coffee cups. If you are looking for a getaway, I HIGHLY recommend The Sanctuary. It's just a hop over to Monterey too. Made memories here we'll never forget!

We stayed last weekend for a one night getaway. Loved that we could bring the dogs and it was so dog friendly. Staff was really nice, they had sparkling wine and macaroons in the room when we got there. The view from our room and access to the beach was stellar! We'll be back for sure!

As a pet owner this place is such a gem. It's not always easy to get away without a reliable pet sitter, so to be able to bring them with us is worth the price for the extra peace of mind. The resort is exceptionally pet friendly and even with all the families that brought pets it felt like there was plenty of space for everyone to co-exist. There were tons of accessible bag stations and trash cans and the beach is so clean. We came in Nov so there weren't a ton of people on the sand in the afternoon, unless up by the fire pits, so our dogs had so much room to run around. We stayed in the Oceanfront Deluxe #607 and the room was super comfortable and was right by the entrance to the beach which was convenient. The room was clean and we had a mini bar full of beverages and snacks, all complimentary. There was a Fellow kettle and complimentary pour over coffee and tea, but you could also pay to order in from the restaurant. The in room fireplace can get a bit warm if you're sitting right in front of it, but we had the slider open most of the time so we could see the ocean, so it wasn't too bad with the breeze. The patio is also super relaxing to sit on. The one thing that would really make this place ideal is if there was a gym. Other than that, highly recommend if you're looking for a place to relax and need to bring the fur kids. We'll be back for sure.

Chill beach, seemed private to guests only.
Heather K.

Fire pits. Pet friendly. They have amazing service! It's expected for resorts, but this place is overpriced.

Ask the Community - The Sanctuary Beach Resort

Does the hotel have a gym?

Is there a weight limit for pets? I have a golden Retriever.

I don't believe there is, we took our 77lb pitbull no problem.

Are there elevators to access 2nd floor rooms or is it just stair access?

Just stairs to the best of my knowledge. Call the resort to double check.

Do you tip the bell hop everytime he brings you to and from your room? It get's pricey after a few trips depending on how many times you come and go. (Unsure if this is what…

Didn't seem expected during the stay as this mode of transportation is required for room access besides walking.

But when we call for a later check out than 11am, my husband requested to check out at 1pm to compensate for the late check in, all they can say is that they can extend it to 11:30 am the latest, despite explaining the late check in. We could have checked into another hotel if all we wanted to do was shower and sleep. But we have always enjoyed what Worldmark facilities have to offer. Will not be coming back to this location again. Was it due to lack of staff? not sure why they could not extend later check out to 1 pm. 5 hours to clean a unit for the next tenant? Got me thinking if the membership is worth it anymore.

Unfortunately it wasn't the service I expected to receive from a Hilton property…read more Upon arriving at 3pm for check-in, we were advised the room was not ready and check-in is now 4pm. That was a bit frustrating as we have a 10-month old we just drove with for a couple hours. Either way, we went a couple blocks down the road and had some pizza while we waited for the room. Now for the room, when we arrive, the door to the full-size refrigerator was open. Therefore, the refrigerator was not cold at all and the groceries we brought would have to stay in the cooler until the refrigerator became cold enough. Upon my investigation, when the door to the hotel room opens, the handle briefly attaches to the door of the refrigerator, pulling that open as the heavy room door shuts. Voila - Sherlock Holmes has cracked the case! HA! Bathroom - a couple of issues here; the Water pressure - there was none! Also, there was no bathtub for the baby which we requested a room with a bathtub. Let's talk space and beds. It had two queen-sized beds, room was spacious enough for us 3 adults and baby. There was a couch which pulled out into a sleeper. Comfortable? NOT IN THE LEAST! The mattress on both beds seemed like they were a decade old and all you could feel were the springs, no soft comfort. The bed nearest the window loss it's springiness as you just sank right into the middle. Whoa! But I guess if you like super sinking springy beds, this would be to your liking. The kitchenette; you'll have to ask for a hot plate if you want to cook in your room. At first we were looking everywhere for it, because they don't mention upon check-in that they need to actually give one to you upon request. Also, the microwave above the sink was not working at all. No power at all, and upon our attempts to reach Yessenia at the front desk for assistance, they never picked up. So, again, Sherlock Holmes to the case and with the use of the ottoman to climb upon and check above the cabinetry, we found the appliance was not plugged in. Sheesh, these guys are making me work for my stay. Sherlock solves another case at this location. The pool area could be smelled from the hallway downstairs; I understand the use of chlorine, but whew it was strong. The pool was fine, not heated but not freezing. The hot tub had so much bubbles I wasn't sure what was going on in there, I did not attempt to make use of it. The bbq grill outside for use was nice, however, they do not clean it, so clean it yourself before use. Also, the bbq cooking utensils are also used by other guests, so again, be mindful of what you're cooking with. Breakfast is from 6am-9am in the morning and it was okay. They offer three types of cereal, boiled eggs, there's a waffle maker, bagels, muffins, toast, oatmeal, usually a type of protein (bacon, chicken, or sausage), and biscuits. They have regular milk, almond, and oat milk, as well as juice, coffee, and tea. I recommend not going too late because they will not make anymore food by the 8:30 mark. The woman said, no that's it, just what's left - which was cold eggs, waffle, and muffins. Yikes! Oh, also this is not a baby friendly place. There are outlets all over the place that are not guarded. Just a helpful hint for parents out there. Unfortunately the check-out process with Yessenia was not great. She appeared to be annoyed with a customer before me and continued on with me. I advised her that the customer service she was providing was not how a person in her position should be acting. Maybe she was having a bad day, but if that's the case, take a break and switch out with someone else. So would I stay here again, definitely not. Paying nearly $500 for this type of service and room is not worth it.

The obnoxious kids running and yelling endlessly up and down the hallway outside your door. The neighbor's TV and conversation and snoring in every room adjacent to your own. Every door opening and closing all night long.... And that's just OUTSIDE your room. Inside, the AC/fan is loud and the beds creak and groan every time you breathe. I barely slept might #1 and judging by the crowd of elephants that just entered the room next door, I won't get much more tonight as I'm typing this at 11 PM. The layout of the room is awful. As soon as someone opens the door, everyone inside is blasted by either the outdoor lights or the sun. The bathroom is ridiculously tiny. You can barely get inside to close the door to use the toilet. The shower curtain bar was falling out of the wall, drooping, and causing the curtain to continously slip to the middle of the bar, letting all the shower spray out onto the floor. And nevermind any soft or adjustable lighting--it's all harsh, bright light ricocheting across mirrors so no one can sleep if one person is up. The floor creaks when you walk and was filthy and gritty when we arrived. There's mildew and mold in most corners and all over the bathroom. The toilet seat is such flimsy, cheap plastic you can't sit on it without it sliding half of the toilet or bowing under you. Did I mention that you will hear all the screaming and crying children on either side of you all hours of the night? The parking lot was NEVER full, but the place still put everyone in consecutive rooms when clearly there were empty rooms that could have been used to space us all out to make buffers for noise since this place has zero soundproofing. The room as a whole was grimy and dirty. Stuff on the walls, paint peeling, bathroom and bathtub surfaces cracked, rusted, and moldy. Absolutely disgusting. The only positives I can cite are the blackout curtains (worked well) and that there was a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. The continental breakfast was okay, too. But if you actually want to sleep on your trip, don't stay here. This place clearly does not care one bit about helping you get a decent night's rest. Never. Ever. Again.

All things considered, it offered a lot of features for a 2-star motel. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staying in Marina, I didn't feel the need to turn on the A/C and the room was comfortable to sleep in. No random noises or altercations waking me up, so a huge plus for my experience here for the night. This is an older motel; the rooms are dated, but the appliances & tv are modern. There's free wifi, and an impressive assortment of cable channels (including kid channels) & they give you a cute little key for your room. I really hope mgmt considers a more secure way to lock their doors; it seems someone could easily break in. I should point out though that my parents were staying in a different room & had two locks on their door. There is no blow dryer & the toiletries are skimpy; bring everything from home.
