I mean guys, come on, it's a cheap and relatively fast way to travel between NYC and D.C. What more could you ask for? Well free WiFi is great; clean bathrooms are always appreciated; complimentary bottled water to go with all the salty snacks I purchased during our scheduled rest stop break ("leave no one behind" was priority #1); And something I've learned a lot of these bus services overlook--communication! This bus is the best! Why? Free drink and hot small chocolate they provided every ride. No stops and they always arrive on time or earlier than the estimated time of arrival. You can bring upto 3 bags(50 pounds each) and the wifi works nicely and it is less spotty. It is always 30 dollars one way even during thanksgiving break! read more

Im almost afraid to write this review because I dont want anyone else to find this hidden gem. My bus ride with BestBus was better than my recent plane trip. The bus arrived on time, we were greeted by friendly attendants who checked our names and asked if we needed assistance with our luggage. The bus had leather seats, plenty of leg room and excellent Wifi. There is also a tray for each seat so that you eat comfortably or use your laptop. I generally do not write reviews for services but I was beyond impressed with the customer service for bestbus. I missed my original bus to Vienna due to my own fault and called them to reschedule. BestBus does not allow rescheduling a few hours before departure so I called customer care who asked me I could go to the stop at the next bus time and stand as standby. Mine was the last bus for the day to Vienna so I knew the closest Option would be to go to union station Dc, however since that's a whole different stop I wasn't sure it would be allowed. I went to the stop and explained that I missed my bus to Vienna and was wondering if I could go to Dc as standby. He asked absolutely no questions, searched for my reservation to Vienna and allowed me to board without charging anything extra or any fuss. No major bus company I know allows people to modify or board without paying extra. The bus itself was extremely clean with each seat having a trash bag. They were also giving out ice cold water and comfortable seats. The price: less than what major carriers charge. I don't know why I never knew about BestBus. Would highly recommend. read more

DC2NY is a class act. At $50 round trip for members (membership is free), it's a bit more expensive than other services, but it's the Cadillac of inter-city bus travel. I'm talking about movies, if your bus votes in favor of them, wifi, a free bottle of water, and access to one electric outlet for every other row. The two trips I went on had 8 and 17 people, so everyone was able to have her own outlet, but I would definitely bring one of those mini-power strips if your neighbor or seat-mate always wants to plug in as well. That's the one thing that I really don't understand about their mega-competitors. What good is free wifi if you don't get to rejuice your gadgets? It's great if you have an iOverpaid that has 12 hours of battery life, but I have a PC and an Android phone, and I need juice. So yeah, be prepared, enjoy the liquid-only (exact quote) potty, and have a good ride. I especially enjoyed that DC2NY took me right to Union Square, which was really convenient for me. I didn't mind arriving an hour later to be able to arrive 3 blocks from the place where I was staying. If Union Square is convenient for you too, take DC2NY. read more

Definitely met and surpassed my expectations for a $29 bus ride to DC on Christmas Eve! Seats were pretty comfy, a bit small/close to your neighbor, but I've been in worse. Bus left right on time and I arrived right on point. Staff was all great. Easy peasy check in, you don't need to print your ticket, they just check your last name. Get there early. Both ways, I showed up at least 30-45 minutes before hand to get in line early. They put your luggage underneath and you get a free bottle of water. There are usually extras so you can get more during the trip or take 2. Best seat is the front row, opposite driver. Tons of room. Bus is run like a democracy. First, you take a vote on whether or not you want to watch a movie. If yes, there is 2 choices and you decide between the two. Movies were pretty up to date (we watched the A-Team remake and The Vow). While the volume is low, on the way there subtitles were put on which helped. Then you determine if you will stop 1/2 way through for a 15 min rest stop. Thankfully, we veto'd that shit both times. Drive there, hardly any traffic and made it there in 4.5 hours. I love that they have a DuPont stop. On the way back (2 days before NYE) there was much more traffic, especially Lincoln Tunnel and onward, that added an extra hour to our ride. Pickup/dropoff in NY is right by Penn Station, in front of a deli/by the Bolt Bus pickup. Buses sell out, but not super quick. I bought my return ticket 2 days before I left. I will definitely be using them again when I go to DC. Can't beat the price! read more

Took this bus on the way back from Virginia.DC2NYC is one the the few or only options if you want to travel by bus from Vienna,Virginia Here the pros:- -Super easy Online Booking -They give you a bottle of water while boarding and one more at the rest stop -Buses are new and so are the seats -They are not as crowded as mega, bolt etc -Voting system for stops,movie etc.Majority people who raise their hands for a given option win. -Convenient last stop in Midtown Manhattan(Times Square) Cons:- -Expensive compared to Bolt,Megabus etc.One way to Virginia was fixed $33 per person.Compare it to Megabus where I scored a great deal for $6 each way.Even the standard rates are around $20 each way -Seats are smaller and not very comfortable. -Foot rest is all the way at the bottom hitting the floor.Defeats the very purpose of having foot rest. Restroom in the bus to be used for wee only. -They don't have the wire mesh at the back of front seats to put your books, phone etc -At the rest stop the driver stopped the bus only for $5 minutes.He clearly said bathroom rest only.With a toddler in tow its impossible to be in and out of the crowded restrooms in less than 5 mins.When I came back , my relative was standing outside the bus requesting the driver to wait couple more mins cause I had apparently taken 6 minutes I will probably travel by DC2NY again when I have to go to Vienna.But for DC I guess I will stick to Megabus. - read more

Route : DC to NY. This is the best bus service I've had the pleasure of traveling on. The boarding was effortless. They give you a bottle of water ! when you board. The bus driver will crack a joke or two before setting sail. The bus was very clean. The charging ports worked. The seats reclined. Fellow passengers were courteous to one another. Ample overhead storage space. There was a pit stop midway during the trip. The bus left DC on time and arrived in NYC on time. I will always consider BestBus when going to DC. read more

I've done the DC to NY and NY to DC bus a handful of times in the last year and I have to say, this bus rocks. It's very democratic w/ the choice of movies or no movie and with a rest-stop or no rest-stop vote. My most recent trip was booked just 2 days ago and at an easy $29 one way to DC that will drop me off at Union Station, it was a no brainer. The website indicates roughly how many seats are left on that particular bus and you can reserve online. It's not as popular as the Bolt bus which to me is great since there's less of a crazy line and limited fear of not getting on. Also, more leg room to stretch out. Free water, friendly service, and paperless ticketing is also a plus. read more

I took the DC2NY bus over Thanksgiving. This was my first time traveling by road over the holiday and I couldn't help but worry about the traffic horror stories I've always heard around this time of year. I decided to leave early, come home late, and try out this bus as fast driving seems to be a common factor in most of the reviews. And you guys are right - I did get down and back in great time (despite leaving nearly 30 minutes late) . . . but not without a price. "To everything there is a season", say the Mamas & the Papas (or the Bible whatever, one of them, same thing), and I totally agree. There is a time and place for everything . . . except maybe watching "The Game Plan" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. If there is, for some reason, a time to watch that movie, it most certainly CANNOT be on a BUS RIDE, blasting through the overhead speakers at 8AM. Call me grumpy, I don't care. I prefer silence in small, confined spaces, and the fact that my fellow riders actually VOTED to watch this movie (ps - I saw nary a person under 21, mind you) proves that this isn't the bus for me. The seats are uncomfortable, and though there is Wi-Fi, there weren't any outlets on my bus, so . . . yeah. The fun size candy bar and bottle of water were nice touches . . . but I'm not 7. A Disney movie and snacks aren't big enough draws, even though the ride was fast. Looks like I'm stuck with Bolt . . . the Bus, not the children's movie . . . which they'll probably play on DC2NY at some point. read more

1. Seat is broken (will not go up or down). 2. Driver switch took 15 minutes. This could have been done at a rest stop. 3. FREEZING: Nonstop cold fan draft in windiw seats. When one sweet young lady asked to turn the ac down, the driver announced, "I've had a request to turn the ac down. I must warn you: it could reach 80 degrees in here...The bus is currently 78 degrees...but you voted on this, so be it." This is false. First, there was no vote during the drive's switch. Second, the bus was about 60 degrees, not 78 degrees. So, evidentally, there is only an on/off switch, and one that the driver cannot manipulate at all while driving? And I am always hot. The bus temperature did improve, overall. 4. What I liked: ticket price; complimentary water; conservative driving speed; pick-up next to Penn Station. Power outlets work. Seats are ok. Wifi not great but better than most. 5. VOTING? Finally, do not take votes about rest stops. Rests are better for drivers and make for happier passengers. If 30 people vote no and 10 vote yes, this is simply tyrrany of the majority. I was sitting next to a woman who told me, "I sure could have used that rest stop. I wish it hadn't been an option." Ok, so a friend asked me if I'd like to go and visit him in DC. I decided to go and when it came down to choose the bus company I was recommanded DC2NY. But to tell you the ride to DC was hell. The aircondition didn't work and I felt like in a finish sauna! Our driver was talking on the phone permanently trying to get the air fixed. We had to stop several times because people felt sick and dizzy. Unfortunately these buses are constructed in a way that there are no windows which you could open. We were basically trapped. The guy behind me even went crazy because he was claustrophobic. At one stop we were promised to continue the trip in another bus which resulted in us getting on the same bus as before again and having waited 40 mins. Somehow the extra bus wasn't available. The only good thing about the buses is that they offer free wi-fi (which didnt work on my way back to NY) and you get free water. I had experienced better companies! read more

I have been taking BestBus to Springfield VA for around three years and I have never been disappointed. Rides have always been smooth and on time. I was extremely impressed by the clean atmosphere, the driver made it very clear to us that he wanted his bus to remain clean and that we needed to collaborate, "like we clean our house to keep the bus clean." I was impressed that he kept windex and wipes in the back of the bus and that the bathroom was extremely clean. Yes, I utilized the bathroom to pee (it almost seems like you are in a blender because of the location of the bathroom)!!! . I mean the driver made it clear that we needed to clean the seat with sanitizer for the next user so that made me feel safe to use it. Overall it was a very clean experience. #BestBusVa read more

Eh. Cheap enough and democratic, but there are certain things that could have been better. For instance, even though we get to vote on horrible movies, why cant the sound be put through to the headphone jack in the seats, instead of blaring through the bus? And the color was off on all the monitors, so it came in green and pink most of the time. Also, the individual lights for each seat were out, which didn't help when the horrible movie was over and you wanted to read as you were sitting in traffic for 2 hours And the foot step that is attached to the seat in front of you went all the way down to the floor. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Otherwise, no assigned seats, very nice driver and assistant, simple service. The decor limits the amount of baggage you can bring on the bus(see pictures of overhead bins), so be prepared to have it in your seat if you bring more than a purse. read more

A note: Nothing ever happened for them to lose a star. I simply have not ever tried another bus line, so I have no idea if they are the best out there. With that in mind, I love DC2NY. I do not even want to explore other lines that go to NY/DC. They are always prompt, courteous, friendly, and helpful. I love being able to book my tickets online, and also gain rewards for a free trip. The stop in Midtown is super convenient to all of the subway lines. Do it! read more

I guess after a year this bus company has become more popular. There were a lot more riders than last year. A few things I didn't like about the ride this year is 1) no longer offered a movie 2) there were changes in bus drivers in NJ which increased our travel time 3) some dumb girls didn't get off at their stop so the bus driver turned around to let them off which was an extra 15 min wasted--it was nice of the bus driver to do this but it wasted everyone else's time! 4) the bus was almost 30 min late when picking us up for the 7:30am in Vienna with no reason why and no compensation. I will give best bus another try next year but if it's late like that again especially for pick up I'm just going back to Bolt which was never late for pick up read more

Pretty professional operation for a low-cost service. Did two Friday PM/Sunday PM round-trips from NY to DC. Buses left on time and were clean. Dupont drop-off is very convenient. Recommended if you're priced out of the train. Take this over MegaBus if they are priced similarly. That being said, the voting for a movie and a rest stop thing is really weird. read more

BestBus is WorstBus. I purchased two tickets for a trip from Virginia to New York. They had no trouble taking the money off of my credit card but they were unable to send me my confirmation email with the tickets. We never got it and had to book through another bus. When we got home, we called and were told to email. We emailed they apologized and said they hadn't received a notification that we booked and they were able to see that we were charged. They promised to send us a check as a refund a tad archaic but okay it should have worked. I waited a week and no check came so we emailed and got no reply. Waited another week, no check, so we emailed and didn't get a reply. As a result, I opened a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back. Avoid WorstBus and go with Bolt Bus or Mega Bus. read more

Let me first say I am not a fan of bus travel. I find the seats on the buses uncomfortable/cramped and there is not enough space between you and the seat in front. Although I much rather take the airplane or train. Sometimes flying out or taking the train is just not practical / economical. DC2NY is one of the many bus options offered for travel from DC to NY or vise versa. Highlights: -OUTLETS!! --note may not be available on all the buses. -WIFI -- sketchy and slow but faster and more consistent than Vamoose WiFi. -REWARDS PROGRAM- 2 dollars off a one way ticket and your 9th trip is free... yay! 31 dollar to Vienna VA 29 dollars to Washington DC -BATHROOM- no #2 allowed. So I guess you have to hold it for 4-5 hours if you need to go :) -Complementary Bottle of water provided .. thumbs up! -This is the only bus service that pick up/drop off in Vienna Virginia. Overall - If you really don't mind sitting on a bus for 4-5 hours from Va/DC to NYC then then DC2NY maybe for you. Seats are really uncomfortable (as with most bus seats) and you have to deal with the occasional crazy person sitting next to you. read more

Pretty comfy compared to other buses I've been on. Arrived to NYC early even on a Friday holiday weekend, even though time is always traffic-based, nothing much the driver can do. Pickup at DC Union Station was explained well on receipt and easy. Just wish the worker didn't go in reverse order for boarding, frustrating to go from 8th to 25th and lose the chance sit with the person I came with since the bus was already pretty packed from its initial boarding in DuPont. read more

I'm actually riding on this bus back to DC as I write the review. I took it up to NY as well. The staff is extremely courteous and they depart on time. Also their stops are conveniently located (for me) and they make it very clear on the ticket exactly where to go. The busses are clean and they even give you bottled water! Also, thirty dollars each way is a lot cheaper than Amtrak. Why then do I only give two stars? Because the seats are uncomfortable and the seatbelt makes my shoulder hurt. I don't like to complain but this is an important consideration for a long bus ride. read more

Very fast but unsanitary disgusting conditions. I took this bus from DC to NY to escape the Frankenstorm. Got there early, bus was on time, but as soon as I got on the bus, I was hit by the worst smell of my entire life. The entire bus smelled like a Port-o-Potty. Literally like chemicals and shit. The smell was so bad that everyone boarding tried to sit up front away from the bathroom, but on a full bus the less fortunate were stuck in the back. I spent the entire ride with a scarf wrapped around my face to escape the smell. It was so strong that everyone was talking about it and it made me nauseous the whole time. Everything else seemed pretty grimy too. To be fair, the ride was fast, and we made good time, getting to NY in around four and a half hrs. They also play movies at super high volumes throughout the trip, which is kind of awful if you don't particularly love the sound of, say, Tom Hanks's voice. I've taken a lot of buses over the years, and I have never experienced anything this gross. If this hadn't been my only option to get out of DC before the storm hit, I would have gotten off right away. Took a long shower and lots of scented candles before I could shake that smell. Bottom line- choose another bus line. read more

Decent bus and decent service. It was moderately comfortable, they provided free water, and even let the passengers vote on whether they wanted to watch a movie. Ride itself was fine - we even ended up arriving a little early (probably due to lack of traffic). I would give them four stars, but they didn't have any power points on the buses (even though their website said they did). I decided to give BestBus a try after finding out that the stop was much closer to my place in VA than Vamoose, and with recommendation from a fellow New Yorker. Unfortunately, even the closer commute couldn't hold me. On Vamoose, the seats are roomy, and sometimes I've even had a whole two seats to myself! Unfortunately with BestBus, the bus was PACKED. I felt like a sardine squashed into a can. I'm honestly assuming this bus is so packed because seats are 30 bucks a pop. There were another two stops after mine, and it really wasn't the greatest. To go with the room issue, the leg room was tight, and the trip took about 6 and a half hours :( the last time I had a trip take this long, It was with MegaBus, and that took a crazy eight hours. On top of all that, if I remember correctly, the bus was supposed to leave my stop at 5:30, and we ended up not even leaving until about 6. This was a pretty big no-no. Usually with Vamoose, the trip is exactly 4h30min to 5h, but this was crazy! I have a feeling it was because those extra stops! By the five hour and thirty minute mark, I remember wondering, WHAT IS HAPPENING? I missed a work social for this bus! If you're looking for something cheap that'll still eventually get you to New York, take this. If you're in a rush on business or such, take something better. read more

VA to NY: The trip took 6 hours from VA to NY. This is too much. There was a driver switch on the road, the new driver didn't arrive on time. The 60 people on the bus had to wait for 10 - 15 minutes until the driver showed up. The driver decided to change the drop off station, it made no difference for me but it was a decision that he made without consulting the passengers. The only positive is the the bus showed up on time, thats it. NY to VA: The one positive thing from the first trip experience went bad here. The bus showed up 30 minutes late! Terrible!! read more

I have always had great experiences with DC2NY. My first experience with them our bus was hit by another bus going into the Washington tunnel (you all know how crazy that can be) but will still made it to DC in under 4 hours! They have cool drivers, free wi-fi, free water and you don't have to print a boarding pass! Side note: Be on time, they will leave you! read more

I havent written a review in months, but logged on just to review DC2NY. I was in DC during the big snowstorm in early Feb '10, and booked a ticket for myself and two friends to return to NYC after Mega and Bolt canceled their buses. DC2NY hadnt yet canceled and we needed to get home...thus the booking. DC2NY ended up canceling their buses to yet offered NO refund to the customer. Mega and Bolt automatically refunded customers who were on canceled buses. A few weeks later, i see the charge on my credit card bill and call DC2NY who stated they dont offer refunds to customers in that situation unless there is a WRITTEN request to do so. They "assume" you will just reschedule your trip and put your money on "hold". This was not the case for us, and I imagine not the case for other customers. This is just shady practice that shows DC2NY is not customer-focused. read more

I've used bestbus since it was DC 2 NY. My parents lived in Virginia so it was much more convenient for me to take bestbus than any other bus companies. Bestbus also has great services! Before you get on the bus, everyone gets a free water bottle for the ride. So in case you forgot to bring something to drink, no worries! Their bathroom inside the bus is much cleaner and doesn't smell bad like some other companies'! (Once I used the bolt bus bathroom and almost threw up cause it smelled so bad.) They also offer options of two movies or no movies before the bus leaves. Usually they offer the latest movies which is good. Overall, my experience with bestbus has been very pleasant and i'm planning to continue to ride bestbus!! #bestbusva read more

If you're reading this, you're probably wondering: what's a better option, Bolt Bus or DC2NY. Let me answer this for you (as I sit on the DC2NY bus traveling from NY to Washington) - Bolt Bus. The buses (in my experience) are nicer and newer. The check-in is smoother and staff a little more seasoned. The whole thing just feels more professional and like clockwork. And...it's cheaper and, somehow, the ride actually seems smoother on Bolt. Which is probably impossible...but it certainly felt like it. DC2NY is OK. And certainly better than your Chinatown options. Well, the only reason why I took this bus was because Bolt bus was sold out. This review is from to DC from NY. The bus line departs from the same place Bolt bus does in Manhattan. Getting on the bus was organized having a guy check his smart phone for names and or reservations. Free bottle of water. Then the fun begins. A democratic bus in which we all are asked if we want a rest stop or to go direct. Then we decide if we want to watch a crappy movie or not. The majority vote yes. However, everyone has to hear the loud dialogue as there are no individual headsets for privacy. Oh yea. another negative point is they advertise free wi-fi, nope doesn't work and only one power plug to share between two people. Not a problem with Bolt bus and cheaper as well. Sigh - hurts to write this review. I used to love riding best bus. It had good service. That was until my fiancé was riding it last month - the bus she was riding literally burned to the ground in the middle of nowhere! Talk about lack of safety! Since then, I decided to give them a second chance and ride it again. They have lost touch to say the least. The bus is 1 hour late (I am standing in line as I write this review). I took BestBus this morning from Union Station to NYC. It was by far the best bus experience I've had, living up to the name. It was a smooth four hour drive. The seats were comfortable and leather. The guy checking us in was very professional and offered free bottles of water as we boarded. There were plastic trash bags available at each seat and cup holders. The bathroom on the bus was spotless. I'm on Megabus now on my way back and the difference is stark. Definitely taking BestBus again next time I'm heading to NYC! read more

The seats could be more comfortable, but it's a bus. The one thing I didn't love was the organizer on the way back. He was blatantly hitting on women waiting in line and advised a man coming onto the bus that he should get a seat next to one of the "beautiful girls." It was a little creepy and I would have liked more professionalism. They did have a movie. I sort of wish they didn't have the option - I'd rather ride in silence.
